DDP's Yoga At Wrestlemania

Hi, This story is 100 percent open on the website and will be accessible.  http://www.newsday.com/sports/ pro-wrestling/diamond-dallas- page-speaks-on-yoga-entering- chris-jericho-cm-punk- wrestlemania-match-1.3635846 Thanks much! I briefly met DDP at the comic convention last year in Calgary and he was going on about his yoga deal there, too.  I'm glad that wrestlers like him and Trish Stratus can find success after WWE, actually, without having to crawl back begging for a job again.  Plus he hosted that Nitro DVD, so obviously he's on good terms with them, too.

More on Wrestlemania

Hey Scott longitme reader, occasional blog poster, and first time emailer. I was wondering with the tons of rumors, people doing their fantasy booking(all I've seen great ideas in their own right) and "biggest match ever" hype, are we all getting set up for a HUGE letdown? I think the Cena/Rock match with be a good one but something tells me it will end with an Attitude Adjustment and a clean win for Cena followed by a passing of the torch moment(pretentious in my mind)with a Rock handshake. All well and good but not for Mania or the crazy potential ways this story can go....or maybe I really AM that jaded. Thoughts?  Oh, I think they're cooking something up here.  Low ratings = desperation = awesome hotshot angles, so there's gonna be some giant attempt to boost RAW the next night, and that means we all win, at least temporarily.  Plus they have to set up next year's WM, so no, I don't think you're setting yourself up for disappointment at all.

CeNWO?

Long time reader 5th time emailer blah blah blah Random question that might either be smart or ridiculously Russo-esque dumb... With Lesner and Batista in Miami this weekend... and Rock needing to beat Cena to be the best of all time - a la Austin 01 any chance you see Rock recruiting Lesner/Batista to help him win and forming their own version of the Part Time NWO? Then you got Cena railing the locker room against "all these part time guys taking your spot" Just for shits and giggle CM Punk could play the Sting role at Summerslam thoughts... Scary enough, I was thinking along similar lines, although my thoughts were more Dave Hall and Brock Nash laying out Rock so that Cena wins.  Cena is MAD and we get the Bash at the Beach redo at Extreme Rules (or later) with Team WWE against the Part-Timers, where Cena is revealed as the third man and tells all the fans to stick it.  Cena/Brock/Batista as the mega-heel stable against maybe Punk/Jericho/Orton

Yet Another Rock/Cena Question

How surprised are you that the WWE were able to pull this Cena/Rock match off? They actually were able to build a match one year out into this huge mega super event. Typical WWE don't even think one week in advance, let alone plan something a year away and actually pull it off pretty damn successfully. I know it's Cena/Rock and there is no way they could have screwed it up, but they deserve some credit, don't they? Yeah, some, but they didn’t really BUILD anything over that year.  They happened to announce it a year ago, then forgot about it completely for months, then had them teaming up at Survivor Series for no reason, and then finally starting building the actual match 6 weeks out.  Justin Shapiro had a great analogy, where the writers are high school students assigned a paper 6 weeks away and so they’re like “Well we’ve got 6 weeks to study and prep for this” and basically do nothing for the first 3 weeks before suddenly realizing that it’s due in 3 weeks and nothing

Kyle's News: Ric Flair has to mention TNA in his HOF speech?

According to sources, one thing TNA wanted when negotiating with WWE for Ric Flair’s Hall of Fame participation was that they wanted it to be said in some way during the show that Flair worked for TNA or was there due to TNA. We’re not sure if WWE agreed to that particular stipulation, but it was one of the key things that was being discussed over the past few weeks. Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter  I  appreciate TNA allowing Ric Flair to attend the Four Horsemen's introduction into the Hall of Fame, even though if they said no, it might've caused a tirade. But, Flair should thank TNA for allowing him to attend this event on his own. TNA's Upper Management shouldn't be telling him he has to .  TNA  is trying to get a cheap plug on a WWE show. Little does TNA know, president Obama could plug TNA on national TV and it wouldn't help. Face the facts TNA: you're more known now than 2006 and yet your shows gets almost the exact ratings it did then a

Plug The Hard Way

March and early April, all wrestling fans look forward to Wrestlemania. The Hard Way decided to devote an entire month to Vince McMahon's wet dream of a pay-per-view. To further get into the WM fever, all of the top 5's are based around WM. The top 5's are the Best Wrestlemanias of all time, Best WM Matches of all time, the Undertaker's best matches at WM and the best WM entrances ever. Kyle's News: Chris Jericho talks about WWE and Wrestlemania 28

Chris Jericho was featured in an interviewed by BetweenTheRopes.com today. Here are some of the highlights. On how this WrestleMania feels different than previous WrestleManias: "I figured this out earlier; this is my tenth WrestleMania and there's only been two (matches) that I've been involved with that I felt had the potential to be the show-stealer. One was with Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania XIV and this is the next one. So, you can never say for sure what's going to happen and there's a lot of big matches on this show. I just think -- with the story line and the chemistry and the work style that we have and the anticipation from the fans -- that are match has the potential to be a very special one. "So, I'm excited about this WrestleMania. Not that I'm not excited about every WrestleMania, but this has a little bit of a special twist to it." On what fueled his return: "[The] time and going against C.M. Punk. I was fi

Smackdown - March 30, 2012 (Wrestlemania Axxess Show)

Smackdown Date: March 30, 2012 Location: Phillips Arena, Atlanta, Georgia Commentators: Josh Matthews, Matt Striker Reviewed by Tommy Hall This is going to be a different kind of show. There were only a few matches taped on Monday and if this show is like last year's, the majority of this show will be partially taped from Miami and Axxess. It'll mostly be a big commercial for Wrestlemania with some wrestling thrown in on the side. That's the same thing the shows all week have done and it's really all they can do this week. Let's get to it.

Kyle's News: Cena Turning Heel at Wrestlemania 28?

Bret  Hart  had an interview with Rob McNichol for  The Sun 's podcast  One Sided Ring . He gave his predictions on the top four matches of Wrestlemania and had some interesting thoughts on Cena vs Rock, including him saying he wouldn't be surprised if Cena turned heel. We've talked about Cena turning heel since 2007.  If Cena was going to turn heel, this would be the best place to do so. The Rock being screwed in his hometown would start a possible riot. It would be nearly as crazy as when Hulk Hogan turned heel.  The WWE has been foreshadowing his heel turn a bit with his more edgy character and him sounding like Stone Cold Steve Austin's when he was telling the Rock "I will do ANYTHING to win" Lastly, i t would explain why they're trying to make the match 50-50 and that is so Cena has fans to turn on.  If Cena turned heel, the product would become  more interesting.  The most complained about thing about the  WWE is its by-the-book shows, and s

WWE Wrestlemania update: Rumors swirling around major star (updated) Holy SHIT.  If Rock takes an F5 and does the job then this show will be legendary.  Plus BIG DAVE is there too.  Take all my money WWE!

Kyle's News: Brock Lesnar Returning at Wrestlemania 28?

Brock Lesnar  is in negotiations with  WWE  to appear at Sunday's WrestleMania  XXVIII pay-per-view event at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida. The odds of the three-time  WWE  Champion appearing at show are 'more than 50/50.' Source: Pwinsider.com I'm all for Lesnar coming back to the WWE. The WWE has lacked a  dominant  big man since Umaga that could put on great matches as well. At his peak, Lesnar was one of the best big mans in wrestling. He understood how to work as a big man, stay in character during his match, tell a story, and still put on an entertaining match....which is all very rare for a big man, especially in this era of wrestling. It will be interesting to see what he'll do at Wrestlemania if he shows up. I've heard rumors of Rock vs. Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania 29, so it's possible that he screws Rock out of his match against John Cena.   I also wonder if Vince McMahon has the grapefruits for Lesnar to do a "I'm better th

Kyle Fitta's WCW SuperBrawl II Review

SuperBrawl II February 29, 1992 Your Hosts: Jim Ross and Jessie Ventura WCW Light-Heavyweight Title: Jushin Liger vs. Brian Pillman. This match was an alternative to the American wrestling style in 1992 because its fast-pace and creative spots, so you can imagine how hard fans marked for  this. Since this is the Ted Turner version, I decided to go out and find this match’s full version. Out of all the matches on this card they could’ve clipped, they picked the best one. After a quick start, Pillman slows down the pace by working on Liger’s arm. Liger goes to the outside to take a breather, but a baseball slide from Pillman puts Liger into the guardrail. Pillman heads up top rope, but Liger gets out-of-the-way before Pillman can jump. Might as well jump! Back in, Liger takes Pillman to the mat and puts him in a leg bar. Pillman fights out of it and throws Liger into the corner, but Liger drills Pillman with a moonsault press. ONE-TWO-NO. Liger dropkicks Pillman to the floor.

Volleyball and Wrestling Are About the Same, Right?

As previously reported, Triple H hired Canyon Ceman to be the new Senior Director of Talent Relations. Ceman replaces Ty Bailey and will be heading up the developmental system. Ceman is an All American volleyball player as well as a volleyball executive. Some have questioned how he can be the right guy to scout and develop talent, but WWE officials are said to be high on him and are touting his sports management knowledge. Source: Figure4Online I was all for Triple H taking over for Vince McMahon, but due to this decision I am starting to second guess it. The problem people have with Johhny Ace because of his lack of knowledge, but at least Ace knows something about wrestling. I'm unsure about what a guy who played volleyball and is a volleyball excessive knows about wrestling. If he's going to have a major role in scouting the talent, I'm not saying WWE is going to go out of business, but if this guy knows nothing, they're making the same business decisions that

TNA's Motor City Machine Guns Reunite

As noted before, Chris Sabin has been cleared to return and will be reuniting with Motor  City  Machinegun  partner  Alex Shelley. The original plan was to have them feud with Samoa Joe and Magnus for the TNA Tag Team Titles, but that was before Joe and Magnus turned babyface. Source: F4WOnline.com  I don't see why they wouldn't feud with Joe and Magnus, even if they are babyfaces, because there's hardly any tag teams MCMG could feud with and they should be centered around the tag-team division since they're the best and usually the most over tag team in TNA anyway. This match would be a great addition to Lockdown, which I must admit :gulp: doesn't look like a bad card at all.

Sympathy For Cole?

Hey Scott,     I appreciate you indulging the questions I and others pose to you.  I have a question for you, which I'm sure will cause some good debate amongst the Keithminers.  Is Michael Cole a sympathetic figure?  Hear me out: His debut was at SummerSlam '97 when he tried to interview Stone Cold on his way to his infamous match with Owen Hart.  Austin called him a piece of trash, and threatened to make the new guy kiss his ass.  After middling around as an interview guy/merchandise stand for The Rock, he suddenly gets thrown in as lead announcer when Jim Ross is struck with Bells Palsy.  It was very clear he was not ready for the job, as you pointed out many times in your brutal but hilarious rants.  My favorites are "Michael Cole the Goatee Wearing Little Bitch", your recap of the Rock/Mankind I quit match at the '99 Rumble, calling him out for saying the most dangerous part of Hell in a Cell is getting your fingers caught in the cage, and my all-time favori

Only if Wrestlemania 28 was a 1.99.....

On Friday at Miami Beach Florida at 8 o'clock est, Dragon Gate USA will have its one time only 1.99 PPV.  This is what the card looks like thus far:  Main Event #1 – Open The United Gate Title Match CIMA & Ricochet defend vs. Chuck Taylor & Rich Swann Main Event #2 – First Time Ever Dream Match Low Ki vs. PAC Main Event #3 Masaaki Mochizuki vs. Akira Tozawa Special Challenge Match Masato Yoshino vs. Rich Swann Stable Shootout Match #1 - Street Fight Sabu & Jon Davis vs. Arik Cannon & Pinkie Sanchez Stable Shootout Match #2 - Fox Picks Callihan's Opponent Sami Callihan vs. BxB Hulk Stable Shootout Match #3 - Callihan Picks Fox's Opponent AR Fox vs. Uhaa Nation I think this is a good idea by Gabe Saposkly. It gives wrestling fans an opportunity to try and see if they like the product. I for one have tried out DGUSA and realized it's not my cup of tea because I feel as if too many spot-fest matches becomes overwhelming after a while.  That said, i

Undertaker's Shaved Head

When Stunning Steve had hair, he looked like a goofball. Sure, it worked at the time due to his heel persona, but never would've fitted the Stone Cold character. The shaved head on Austin fitted the gimmick and made him look more badass, although the same cannot be said about Undertaker. It's uncommon for a guy look more badass with long hair, but Undertaker looked a lot more terrifying with the long hair. He looks like a creepy old man, similar to the Family Guy character Herbert, and completely out of shape in this picture. Hopefully, he does something with his look prior to Wrestlemania and/or WWE does a good job with makeup to make his appearance more intimidating and got back into shape because if he looks anything like he does in this picture, Baldtaker is going to be difficult for fans to take seriously. Plus, it will be interesting to see how Taker calls spots in the ring. After all, for most of his career, he's been used to his hair hiding him talking to hi

rspwfaq.net

I'm quite a big fan of this new version of the site, so I upgraded via Google and bought my own domain name for it, rspwfaq.net.  So now you can go to either .com or .net, whatever you want.  Given that I can make this look and feel almost exactly like the old site with none of the server problems...this might have been for the best.

HELL IN A CELL...OUTDOORS!

Cole v. Lawler

Dear Scott, While reading your review of last year's Wrestlemania, I was reminded of an idea I had that seemed like it was just RIPE for the picking to use in the Jerry Lawler vs. Michael Cole match. Why didn't anyone just lift a carbon copy of Jerry Lawler vs. Andy Kaufman for that bout? It seems like it would have fit perfectly. Cole runs like a pansy for the first five minutes, Lawler finally says enough of that crap and allows him a freebie, suplex, piledriver, pinfall, everyone goes home happy. Total match time about 5-7 minutes. Think such an idea would have gone over well with the fans?  You misremember the original match, though.  It wasn't suplex, piledriver, pinfall, everyone goes home happy.  It was suplex, piledriver, ref calls for the DQ, everyone goes home pissed off and they do rematches for months afterwards.  That was the irony of the whole thing, because Kaufman literally did nothing and Lawler cost himself the match.  Plus Kaufman never pretended to be

I Believe In Freedom Of Choice!

Thanks to a very helpful commenter in the introductory thread, I have now figured out how to crosspost everything to Blogspot, Livejournal AND Tumblr at the same time, which is pretty awesome.  Not that I still have any idea what to do with Tumblr, but 3 people are already following me so I might as well make use of it.  So if you have any preferences (or, if like someone else noted, Blogger and LJ are blocked at work while Tumblr isn’t) you now have your choice of 3 different versions of the blog to choose from.  I’ll like just keep doing that once the regular blog is restored too, because it costs me nothing to do so. So your choices are: rspwfaq.blogspot.com rspwfaq.livejournal.com rspwfaq.tumblr.com   Thanks, and carry on.

Nightmare Matches

Okay I'd love to hear your answer to this My friend was asking me:  Worst possible dream match of all time? My answer:  Giant Gonzales circa 1993 VS Scott Steiner 2003 Can you top that?  I have a feeling you'll blow me away Steiner in 2003 was at least still capable of working a match.  How about Heidenreich v. Snitsky, a dream match we damn near almost got?

Once In A Lifetime, Except For The Rematch

Hi Scott, In my most recent pop culture article for Collective Publishing, I look at the "once in a lifetime" main event of John Cena vs. The Rock. The hype for this match has been attracting fans that left years ago and has created some buzz for WWE.  I am sure the event will rake in tons of money.  My article looks at what the prospects are for this match kickstarting yet another "wrestling boom period."  The article is written for people who don't watch wrestling, and so it does a lot of explaining that your readers may find excessive.  I still think it is an article they'll enjoy and find worth checking out. I honestly don’t think it’s created that much buzz or brought back lapsed fans or anything.  Speaking as a lapsed fan with friends who are lapsed fans, the Summer of Punk did way more to generate interest in that group, to the point where I actually talked people into buying Money in the Bank.  This year I’m into Wrestlemania, but none of this wou

The First Montreal Question Of The New Blog!

Hey Scott, Watching the Hart/Michaels rivalry DVD, there's a point where Bret mentions he had already worked well beyond his contractually-obligated dates and could have legally told Vince to take his PPV and shove it, but didn't out of good faith (or something, can't remember exactly why he said he didn't end up doing that). It's the first I've ever heard of this and, if true, doesn't it give him all the leverage in the world (not even mentioning the creative control clause) to dictate, at least partially, how he wanted to go out? Would he have been black-balled in the business for no-showing, especially in Bret's alleged case where he had already satisfied the terms of his contract and, throughout the years in general, was typically one of the true iron men when it came to working an insane number of dates? Just curious as to your thoughts on that comment in general since, like I said, I'd never heard that part of it brought up by anyone before, b

Rock/Austin

Hey Scott, Not sure if you have had a chance to see the new Rock and Austin DVDs but I think you will be really impressed with the documentary portions. I used to work in TV Production (nbc sports, mlb network to name a few places) and stylistically speaking these two releases have to be the very best they have ever done from a production stand point. For one thing, they let the interviews breathe a little more, with no music in the background while people are talking. The graphics aren’t over the top (Sadly we don’t get the territories map they love to use in EVERY dvd project) but it’s just a very simple font to indicate the dates of certain matches. And more than anything there is no filler. They hit every monumental point in their respective careers and let the interviews speak for themselves, there isn’t even much voice over work just insustry experts talking about the careers of Rock and Austin. Looking forward to your review if you end up doing one, I do wish the match selecti

Betting on WM?

http://www.oddschecker.com/ specials/other-specials/ wrestlemania-xxviii/ Scott, Have you any thoughts on the uk bookmaker odds (as shown in link) for the matches at wrestlemania, i know you have spoken before about the money made by WWE employees when Chris Jericho became undisputed champion; with the only possible value bet being Triple H at 13/2 to beat the Undertaker - is there any chance of this happening? or is there anything other match worth considering? Match results can be accumlated together - Maybe all the faces to go over as you always hope for.  Works out about 6/1 if you count John Cena as the good guy, 7/1 if you use the Rock instead - along with Sheamus, Randy Orton, Undertaker, Big Show and CMPunk. People who bet on pro wrestling get what they deserve, as do the people who TAKE bets on pro wrestling. That being said, I have no idea how to interpret any of that stuff.  But no, there's no chance of HHH beating Undertaker.

Cena Randoms

Hi Scott, A few random ones for your post-Wrestlemania mailbag... 1. Was there ever a John Cena vs. Hulk Hogan match in the works years back?  More frightening: do you think that is STILL an option, given Hogan-Vince's penchant for money-based reconciliation?  I could totally see it if Cena wins this Sunday and declares himself the 'biggest star ever'. 2. Did Steve Austin 'refuse' to work with Brock Lesnar in 2002-03 or was it Austin's personal issues that prevented that match from happening? 3. The Rock has a history of being able to do high-profile jobs, yet cutting a promo and being right back on top.  Dude put over Lesnar in summer '02 and had the highest-profile match on Wrestlemania 19; put over Goldberg clean the next month, returned at WM20 without a hitch.  Mick Foley put over everyone under the sun and maintained his credibility.  HHH's longevity is another story entirely because of wholly unprecedented circumstances.  Is there anyone else

2. Webhosting Solutions?

By the way, anyone have experience with various webhosting solutions? I’m looking to move off Scotsman’s servers so I can stop destroying them, but I’m wondering if the shared servers out there are going to be fine with the traffic that the blog brings in (10-15K pageviews per day, generally, spiking to 20K on big days). HostGator and WebHostingHub seem to be two of the best. Budget-wise I’m not going to be able to handle a dedicated server so that’s right out, but are the various $5/month special deals going to be handle things or just crash on Wrestlemania weekend too?  I know I had some really crappy experiences with Rantsylvania.com, but that was 13 years ago and I’ve deliberately avoided getting involved in the technical end of things ever since.  I’ve turned off a bunch of plugins for the moment to smooth things out on the Wordpress end, hopefully, but obviously that’s not a permanent solution.
