TNA Learns To Share

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDCB426BE1B07E64D&feature=plcp

Obviously WWE isn’t going to have the balls to do something like this, but very cool of TNA to just YouTube all their 2004-2010 PPVs, albeit with a small cost.  But shit, for 99 cents each I’d totally buy into having entire old PPVs available on demand whenever I wanted.  I heartily support and endorse this idea and I hope TNA does well with it, because anything that makes it easier for me as a reviewer to find old footage without having to resort to illegal (and typically low-quality) means makes me more likely to continue watching that product in the future.

  1. Sounds to me like Scott is committing to reviewing every TNA monthly PPV!

  2. If he doesnt kill himself first from the sheer idiocy. From 04 until October 2006 he gets a pass, after that I say he quits at BFG 07

  3. I just wanna read Scott review of Hard Justice '07.

  4. I find it disturbing to acknowledge that TNA is being the forward-thinking organization here.

  5. I wouldn't say it's a lack of balls preventing WWE from doing this, more a presence of brains.

  6. Is it that forward thinking though?  I know their PPV buyrates aren't that great, but how do WWE's DVDs sell?  As long as those are profitable, is WWE in a position that they need to be offering their entire backlog of PPV's on YouTube for 99 cents?

I could be wrong, since I honestly don't know the facts and figures, but it seems like WWE has found other, more profitable means to make a buck off of their PPV library.

  7. They don't want to make money off their library?

  9. They probably sell pretty decently, but I don't think they're making much more off of PPVs from 5-10+ years ago now. As game companies are learning, there's money and demand to made off of older products. WWE would make pretty easy money on this model with little cost to them.

  10.  Lockdown 08? Turning Point 09? BFG 07 and 09? Plenty of good TNA PPVs.

  11. and there are about 4 times as man bad ones.

  12. this would be a stupid idea for the WWE. instead of putting up everything at once, they should promote the hell out of it, just like the did with the NBC specials etc.

for example, around the time of the next WrestleMania, put up this years WrestleMania for free on youtube (for a certain period of time) and use the weekly shows to make a huge deal out of it. the result could and might very well be an enormous amount of clicks which due to their ad contracts with youtube would still make a lot of money.

  13. Hey, at 99 cents a piece, I'm game to take a crack at a few of these shows.

  14. Of course, I'm just saying there are smarter ways to do it than this model. Maybe it works for TNA, I don't know a lot about their DVD sales or if they had an On-Demand service on their site. But I think WWE would be leaving money off the table going this route.

  15. Just from reading results occasionally, I wouldn't watch most TNA PPVs if they paid me 99 cents.

  16. But don't you want to "leave money off the table"?

    ReplyDelete
  17. How much does it cost to manufacture and distribute a DVD?  With this model, I imagine they're paying a percentage to YouTube, but everything else is pure profit.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Sorry, I meant *on* the table of course.

    Apologies for the confusion.

  19. They may not be making loads of money off of WrestleMania XX, for example, but they could potentially make money off of individual matches on the show.  WWE manufactures A LOT of DVD's....whether they're documenting an individual Superstar or specialty match (or even a rivalry).

Again, I don't know the specifics on how profitable these DVD's are, but I'm just not sure this model would necessarily be the most profitable for WWE.  It might be, I'm just not sure, since they seem to do a lot with their library.

  20. And from 2010-present, there are NO good ones.

No joke, their recent shows make Halloween Havoc 2000 and New Blood Rising look like Wrestlemania X-Seven.

  21. I actually have all of the weekly ppv's and even the short-lived Fox-Sports shows on dvd. I can review those here on the site if you want.

  22. Lockdown 2010 disagrees. Angle-Anderson is one of the very best matches in the company's history. In fact, for me it's probably second behind only Unbreakable.
