Vince McMahon Brings The Funny

Well you knew I couldn’t let this one go by without commenting.

Some choice quotes here:

Listening is a lost art. I have a unique ability to listen to myself as I’m talking. That’s somewhat unique, but I think that to listen is to learn.

Once you make a decision, you go with it, and everyone gets behind it. There’s no second-guessing.

Certainly the best way to fail in management [is to be distant and imperious]. You shut people down. If you have all the answers, why is anyone around you? If your ego is so big, then there’s no room for anyone else’s. The fear stuff—that is so rotten.

Yes, this is all stuff said by VINCE MCMAHON.  I think this might explain the problems in creative they do have, given the level of denial coming from the top.

  1. If there's ever been a case of a hostile shareholder takeover needed, it's this company.

  2. I dunno, I've never worked for the company, but I've heard it said quite a few times that the WWE is receptive to hearing ideas from pretty much anyone.

On a recent Aftermath Radio, Jimmy Korderas said even cameramen pitch ideas.

  3. I saw this, it's pretty rich. I also liked the part where he talks about how he hates sleeping, because if he's sleeping he's missing something. No wonder the guy's so fucking nuts, he's probably spending all his off hours talking to Tyler Durden.

  4. If you have all the answers, why is anyone around you?

To hear them say "Yes, Mr. McMahon!"

  5. and doing Tony Montana levels of coke.

  6. He did not understand that reference.

  7. I'm in the same boat as Bill Fozzy.   Most of what Vince says actually is consistent with what we know about how WWE operates, for good or for bad.  The "no second guessing" stuff in particular; I'm not talking about the micro level w Raw, but the big picture stuff - e.g. "Seamus was pegged to be the Rumble winner from last June", etc.  Same with most of the wrestler bios you read.

  8. Agreed.  I think McMahon's erratic behavior is overstated a bit.  And it's on a small, semi-inconsequential scale.  For example, any given Monday's Raw may seem like it's thrown together at the last minute...but every WrestleMania is pretty much all of the matches everybody predicted would happen going back to December or so.  And can we really criticize the business model of the only guy who has really succeeded for a significant amount of time at this level in the entire industry?

  9. I'm starting to think Vince McMahon might be a bad person.

  10. That's a good point.

Sure, Vince messes with the mid-carders constantly, but when he decides that, say, Randy Orton is going to be a star, then he'll move mountains to make sure it happens. Same with Cena being the center-piece of the show; no matter what, Cena is the center-piece of the show. Why? Because I'm Vince McMahon, dammit, that's why!

  11.  I think it's pretty clear he's got some memory problems, especially when it comes to lower card guys, but his vision for the company as whole is pretty clear.  When he wants something to get over or become a main part of the show, it happens.  Look at AJ, she went from an ex-valet/occasional wrestler to some Smackdown heel to the centerpiece of the feud for the WWE championship and the only female wrestler to get matches and promos every week in about...two months?

The Rocket Push still exists people.

  12. The McMahons own the majority of the shares, so that would be impossible.

  13. To play devil's advocate for about 30 seconds.........

Its a prick being in that type of role. You are hailed as a genuis if it works and you are slaughtered if it fails.

  14. I've heard that even sneezing makes Vince McMahon go nuts, since he can't control it and he has to be control of everything.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Vince McMahon doesn't know who Tyler Durden is, so it's probably Martin Lawrence's character from Wild Hogs that he sees.

  16. I guess when he talks about prospective employees not necessarily being fans he's referring to the...writing staff? Accountants? Caterers? It's a niche company that's going to attract at the very least a casual observer.

  17. YES I DID. HE'S A QUARTERBACK.

  18.  I've heard he keeps scientific measuring tools and a barber handy at all times, to prevent even a millimeter of unauthorized hair growth.

  19. I think CM Punk said it best when he said that he's a millionaire who should be a billionaire.

    ReplyDelete
  20. But that's assuming that CM Punk knows how to run a global company better than Vince McMahon.  Virtually all of the failed promoters probably think the same way CM Punk does.  You and I might like Punk's vision more, but it might not necessarily be more successful.

  21.  Agreed with Brak Attack.  CM Punk may be an interesting personality but not a guy I trust to run a multi million dollar business.

  22. Unless they forgot to read the fine print in the contract!  SWERVE!!!
