Orton

Hey Scott,
Given Randy Orton's return this past week, I was wondering if you had any thoughts on his future. He's dropped down the pecking order of faces (I'd say 3rd after Sheamus, given Punk's not-quite-a-turn) and he hasn't developed his act in years. Can they trust him with a world title, or would he be willing to 'lower himself' to the IC or US titles? Assuming no, what does he do next?

Well, his next move is to leave for a while to play an EMT who hates wearing pants in 12 Rounds 2:  12 More Rounds!  I dunno if that's the official subtitle, but it damn well should be.  The hilarious part is of course that John Cena went on WWE TV and BURIED the original movie as part of the leadup to the Rock feud, and they now expect people to pay for a sequel to this movie that was so shitty that EVEN THE STAR OF THE MOVIE wants nothing to do with it.  And of course the plot once again involves someone's wife being kidnapped as a hostage and blah blah blah.  As someone on the F4W board noted about this, how stupid did every other wrestling promotion in history have to be for these guys to be the last ones standing?

Anyway, I'm sure Randy Orton will continue pounding the mat and doing his turnbuckle pose for years to come.

  1. Actually, anyone who played SVR 11's RtWM knows that Santino Marella is headlining the 12 Rounds sequel. "My name is Danny Fisch-errrr! STOP KIDNAPPING MY WIVES!"

  2. Granted I missed everything that happend from late 05 until early this year but thanks to DVD's I am filling in the blanks. Anyway on the Batista DVD he has a match Armagedon 08 vs Orton, and Randy comes out looking like a total psycho. Your not sure if you want to cheer him or be scared shitless of him but THAT'S the Orton I want to see more of.

  3. Knowing Orton it's probably the last one.  Probably resulted in yet another child, too.

The wrestling industry is run by idiots, egomaniacs, insecure assholes & perverts. Always has, probably always will be. It's what happens when the ratio of body to mind skews towards the former.

  5. I don't remember any 12 Rounds jokes during the whole Cena/Rock thing :-/

  6. You don't remember "12 Rounds probably should have ended 10 rounds sooner"?

  7. It was refreshing not having Orton on our screens for a while - just wish it was longer. Never have I been less interested when I hear 'I hear voices in my head''.

Granted a break from our tv screens can do wonders for our interest.

I'm imagining Orton doing his turnbuckle pose, when he suddenly leans to far back, his eyes widen in panic, his arms begin pinwheeling madly through the air and he goes tumbling head over ass across the ring.
Of course, he blew out a shoulder pounding the mat, falling off a turnbuckle would probably kill him.

The only person who looks worse is Regal. The first time he came out in his shirt and panties combo I thought he was going to be wrestling in a ballet leotard.

  10. *small voice* I dunno, I didn't think 12 Rounds was that bad.  I mean, it wasn't a good movie or anything, but as far as inoffensive action movies go, it was acceptable mindless fun.  It was fun seeing Mayor Carcetti ham it up in his actual voice, for instance.  12 Rounds was far better than the Marines, if nothing else.

That doesn't mean, of course, I have any interest in watching Orton in a sequel.  At least Cena's character threatened to kill the guy once his wife was kidnapped; Orton will just threaten to go to the papers if he has to.

  11. Yeah, as far as an actual movie....it's passable. Littlefinger did play the shit out of that villain for all its worth and there's certainly worse movies to rip off than Die Hard With a Vengeance.

  12. That was my exact problem though, that it was so blatantly ripping off DH3. Halfway into the movie, as I'm calling what's going on, my wife asks me how I know and I say because of DH3 and it turns out she had never watched it. Gloriously, I was able to turn off 12R and put in the superior version.

  14. I was never an Orton fan, and it might be an indication of how much I hate everyone else, but I like him a lot more than Cena or Sheamus. I'd rather Orton on top for the next 5 years winning the title 18 times in the process than anything Sheamus does. Punk and Orton would be my pick for "Austin and Rock" of this era.

  15. this. "The Marine" was lot worse.

  16. Orton was great at that point (and a huge chunk of 2009 as well) which was the reason he got so popular that the WWE felt they needed to turn him in 2010.

  17.  Also we have The Marine to blame for Cena doing that fucking salute before all his matches. I hate the salute

  18. Personally, I'm waiting for a Hospital Chairman to publicly decry Orton never finishing Medical School, resulting in Orton losing the role.

  19.  Thanks for that one..I almost shot a marshmallow out my nose. Just the thought of Orton's arms pinwheeling madly is hilarious, this would be funny as hell to see.
