Fwd: 10 years ago: Brock v HHH (v Rock)

---------- Forwarded message ----------

Hey Scott!

As we continue towards SummerSlam and the booking prospects at WrestleMania, I thought your faithful would be interested in this. 10 years ago today there was a triple threat match between Brock Lesnar, HHH and The Rock in front of 50,000+ in Melbourne.

Part 2: http://youtu.be/0-XL0gzG-hk

There's also a post-match DVD extra that's really worth checking out for the Rock-HHH lovefest: http://youtu.be/qmFg3ZMxSTg

Actually, the entire event's worth a look. There's a solid Edge v Jericho match (with Jericho rocking the mic before the bell and going off on the Australian crowd). Plus, it appears the commentary track was done in-studio after the fact and not live at ringside. Cole & Tazz are all jokes and seemingly without much direction. Fun stuff!

  1. I own this DVD. It is indeed an awesome show.

I even reviewed it for 411 like a decade ago. As you can tell, I loved it.

  2. That was way better than I thought it was going to be. Felt like an epic WrestleMania main event with that big crowd.

  3. The CW and Tag Title matches are also quite dope.. Sill have this one in the shelf.. good shit..

  4. I've got the DVD... quite the awesome show, though I seem to remember it's presented in PAL-to-NTSC-vision, like how the RAW's used to be from the UK when they aired on USA.

  5. what annoyed me about the DVD was it missed out 3 matches from the show, you never got that with the UK PPV DVDs

    Chuck/Billy/Rico v Hardcore Holly/Maven/Chavo Guerrero Jnr
Test Vs Kurt AngleD-Von/Batista v Mark Henry/Randy Orton

  6. I still don't believe that this match actually happened.  It was put together on a sound-stage using a green screen, Chris Masters, and outtakes from a Raw vs. Smackdown image mapping session.  Open your eyes, don't let them feed you an illusion and call an international event.

  7. That post show segment is beautiful. Heyman, Rock and HHH all know how to work it, especially Heyman's overt pantomime before getting the elbow

  8. Doesn't really sound like much to miss, honestly.

  9. Ha, it looks like your name got Benoit'd from 411 history. Nice review anyway.

  10. I remember renting this show on DVD many years ago, thought it was fantastic. I remember they put over Brock pretty strong in that match, he even kicked out of the pedigree. And Jericho's "I don't even know what a wanker is" at the crowd was great.

  11. So I'm fucking depressed right now (not really, but bear with me):

So I'm reading through some of Scott's rants on the 2003 WWE shows (on Kindle), and I get to the Raw in Philly that I attended live. Now maybe it was because it was almost ten years ago (May 12, 2003 to be exact), but I honestly don't remember being present for not only the Road Warriors very last appearance together as a tag team, but apparently the last live appearance from Freddie Blassie on WWE television before he died a month later.

Wow, 2003 was a shitty year.

  12. The irony of the timing of this post. This was the last show I went to until last night's house show here in Melbourne. Wouldn't even know where to start although I have to state my two favourite lines of the night.

#1 Opening match - Swagger vs Clay. One guy turns to his mate and says 'So who do you think will win, Swagger or the black guy?'

#2 Cena vs Big Show/Laurinitis Main Event. Same guy turns to his mate and says when Big Johnny gets tagged in while Cena is dead in the ring 'This is Johns best chance because its against the weak guy'

Gotta love international wrestling crowds :)

  13. Orton Vs Batista before either made it big and Test Vs Angle during Test's good period would both have been a great addition.

Considering on the UK PPV releases we got such matches as Godfather Vs Gangrel, Shamrock Vs Blackman & Tiger Ali Singh Vs Edge. It's not like they made a habit of removing dull matches.

  14. Yeah I was there that night!! I still believe there is $$ for vince to make here in Australia, especially here in Melbourne.

  15. From memory this was the then-largest attendance at the venue.

If you sat ringside you got to keep your chair ($650+ a ticket). I don't know if that's a regular thing in the states.

  16. I'm watching my old ppv tapes for '03, with the RAWs the night after, and it certainly was a Very shitty year.

  17. I recently picked this DVD up also (you can get it for $12 on Amazon) as it was one of only a handful I don't have in my collection.

  18. It is for PPVs but I don't know about house shows.
