Fwd: 2012 RSPW Awards

Scott,

For the second year in a row, I'm conducting the long-running RSPW Awards, except this time with RSPW's Mighty God King, who compiled this efficient way for the ballot to be presented. 40 votes in all a year ago, I'm thinking we can top it this year with a less pain-in-the-ass way of voting.

Mind plugging this? For Herb and CRZ? A reminder of simpler times?

Over-under on how many awards CM Punk wins this year?

MGK's site is also great for general nerdery and I recommend it in general, by the way.

  1. Damn. This is long.

  2. That was LESS pain in the ass, Christ that took me like 40 minutes

  3. No kidding, had you been running this I think I might have been quicker to drive to where you're at and hand-deliver my ballot.

So what did you have for worst match of the year? Because that TaDarius/Rhino got my vote by a longshot.

  4. I can't remember the last time it was this hard to choose Match of the Year.

  5. I didn't think there was any other choice than Cena/Laurinaitis. Someone had the balls to make that a PPV main event!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Eh, I saw that and thought it was pretty decent all things considered. Did you see the Thomas/Rhino match from GBHXI?

    ReplyDelete
  7. It's really staggering how much of a late-year push Miz made for Most Obnoxious. It's pretty epic.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Full disclosure, I did not.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Be glad. Though there should be an award for worst main event...

  10. I've always thought this year in terms of wrestling was mearly ok, seeing the choices for Worst Angle made me realize this year was pretty shitty.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yeah, it's a pretty shitty year when Claire Lynch didn't even make my top 3.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I don't even remember It was so long...TaDarius got worst wrestler from me though

    ReplyDelete
  13. Amazing how the wrestling industry can be so far down the shitter with matches like that having occurred

    ReplyDelete
  14. Worst Babyface was Miz for me

    ReplyDelete
  15. Oh, the Storylines this year were putrid

    ReplyDelete
  16. Me too, with Matt Hardy taking second. Can't remember who I had 3rd, I might have just skipped it.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I had Cena, but Miz was a close second.

    ReplyDelete
  18. funny, Cena was my close second

    ReplyDelete
  19. 6 of one, half dozen of the other...

  20. I was surprised at how much TNA I voted for this year - both positive and negative. I've never been able to sustain watching TNA for as long as I have this year, and it's mostly been because of Austin Aires, Bad Influence and Bobby Roode.

  21. That's what she said!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I did Cena/Sheamus/Miz

    ReplyDelete
  23. Short list of guys who can work a babyface match better than cena though

    ReplyDelete
  24. I also do your mom at weddings and bar mitzvahs! #whyivotedformizasworstbabyface

    ReplyDelete
  25. By default. Cena is pushed as the hardest face in the company so there are few options. Punk was pretty great as a face, work style. He worked the face in - peril to perfection.

  26. Voted Sandow for best gimmick, DB v Punk at otl as moty, and AJ Lee for every worst category. Imo maybe the categories need to be cut down but you gotta love the rspw awards

  27. Took me a while but it afforded me the opportunity to reflect back on the wrestling year. It was a mixed year definitely. I hate to perpetuate the stereotype that everyone on the internet hates John Cena, but 2 of his matches filled my list for worst match of the year (vs. Johnny Ace and vs. Big Show)

    ReplyDelete
  28. One was on a national stage, and the other was in something called GBHX.

I think Cena/Ace wins by a landslide. People actually paid for that main event, mostly on the pretense to see Punk/Bryan.

  29. John Cena is by far my worst wrestler of 2012. Horrible feuds, horrible main event matches outside of Rock, Brock (and even that was your stereotypical Cena match), and Punk, and just horrible comedy in general.

    ReplyDelete
  30. hey don't say that out loud Vince is gonna cry because of that.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Was that really Cena's fault, though, or Vince's for putting Ace and Show in main-events?

    ReplyDelete
  32. It's not uncommon for ratings to be low in spite of great matches - there's only one show per month that focuses more on matches than storylines, whereas there are at least eight shows per month that focus more on storylines than matches. If the storylines are terrible, the fewer people watching "Raw" and "Smackdown", which in turn leads to even LESS people watching the PPV.

Same thing happened in 2001 - despite the universal panning of the whole "inVasion" storyline, there were a LOT of fantastic matches due to all of the new talent the company had acquired over the last year-and-a-half. Hell, even most of the PPVs in 2002 and 2003 were pretty good, despite a lot of terrible angles going on at the time; you had to sit through Trips' "Reign of Terror" to get to the "Smackdown Six".

    ReplyDelete
  33. That's what I meant. I try not to perpetuate the stereotype that everyone hates Cena because I don't HATE him, and I don't blame Cena for those two matches stinking, but boy did they stink. Oh I forgot Kane-Cena was my third choice, so there's that. Hit and miss year for Cena.
