Edge story

Hi Scott,

Been reading you for ten years. Thought you and the BOD might enjoy this:

My wife met Adam Copeland here in Calgary yesterday at some meet and greet thing. He was incredibly nice and actually had a mini conversation with each person in line. My wife (who had given off no hint of smarkiness) was telling him that the night he money-in-the-banked Cena was one of her favorite moments as a fan. He then told her that although Vince supported his first title run, others in power did not. He proceeded to make a gesture indicating a person with a huge nose.

Pinocchio?  Karl Malden?  Pete Townsend? I'm stumped.

  1. Scott, as a Canadian, I'm extremely disappointed in you. Edge was quite clearly referring to Geddy Lee.

  2. Didn't he tell this story on his DVD?

    ReplyDelete
  3. So this confirms that Vince still does what he wants to do, right? If he wants Zack Ryder to be champ tomorrow, he'll be champ tomorrow.

BWAH-HA-HA-HA. WOOO WOOO WOOOH, RYDER WON'T BE CHAMP EVER.

    ReplyDelete
  4. While you are correct that he won't be the WWE champ, If Vince wanted Zack Ryder to be champ tomorrow, he'd be champ tomorrow. He'd be a jobber champ, but that's beside the point.

  5. Bytor would be a good wrestling name. And the Snowdog sounds like one of those crazy names they tried to give to Steve Austin. I vote for MOAR Geddy Lee conversations!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Something tells me that Lerxst Pratt is going to agree with you on this.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I'd mark for Ryder losing more often than Rey did.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I'd be worried about Edge having a conversation with my wife...

    ReplyDelete
  9. Yes. Michael Hayes was at least one of the people he was referring to.

  10. BY-TOR!!!

    AND THE SNOW DOG!!!

    SQUARE FOR BATTLE!!!

    LET THE FRAY BEGIN!!!!

  11. Story time:

Neil's 1st gig with Rush was right here in Pittsburgh. There was a showing of their doc Beyond the Lightest Stage in a theater here when it came out a few years ago. The doc was split into chapters, and when they got to the Neil (chapter titled "The New Guy") the audience of course popped and applauded.

But what was fun for the locals (and the transplanted, like me) was when they talked about Neil's 1st gig being at the (then, and RIP) Civic Arena: they showed some overhead stills of the venue, and entire theater (myself included) really popped hard like no one's business. It was one of those neat things that only a select few (in this case, us) could really appreciate.

  12. That doc is amazing. Even my wife, who was never a Rush fan before, watches it every time it's on.

  13. You should check out Konnan's show with Jericho this past week. Jericho (around the one hour mark) goes into HHH's position in the company and his current power level. I was a little surprised. Jericho didn't even talk to Vince to set up his latest return. He went through HHH and HHH alone, had a small chat, and quickly agreed to terms. So, while Vince still has the final say over the main event stuff just as he did with Edge, he's relinquishing a lot of power to Mr. Levesque.

Strange thought as I typed in that last sentence, but I can just imagine HHH as a Mr. Levesque character 10 years from now with Road Dogg, Billy Gunn, and XPac as his stooges.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I want the Stooges back, such hilariously underrated characters.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Pinocchio? So that's why whenever HHH tells someone they're getting a push his nose grows...

    ReplyDelete
  16. Austin gives them major props on his DVD (whilst admitting they used to potato each other a lot).

    ReplyDelete
  17. Dogg, Gunn, and Pac would make pretty funny stooges in 10 years though.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Dogg, Gunn and Pac would probably make pretty funny stooges right now.

On a related note, X-Pac was on the Torch podcast last week and when he was asked who his favorite guy to wrestle was, he praised the single solitary match he had with Bret Hart, basically saying Hart gave Pac his best match ever. It's like Pac was trying to get in on the fun here at the BoD.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I upvoted for the use of whilst.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I don't get why this would get a down vote... Hayes flat out admitted to it on the Edge DVD... I guess I should just be all "Fuck HHH for holding everyone down and ruining everything! Push Bryan and have him go over clean on Taker, Cena, and Rock at Mania!!! #smarksrule"

    ReplyDelete
  21. I demand an episode of Raw where Triple H looks for Brock Lesnar in Minnesota while Dogg, Gunn, and Pac are dressed like MMA fighters. And it's freezing cold out.

    ReplyDelete
  22. "Neil Peart stands alone." --- Dr. Krieger

    ReplyDelete
  23. Those three in mismatched suits just bumping for every punch thrown... it would be amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Complaining about your downvotes is sure to get you more downvotes.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Advice noted. It just struck me as odd as it was one of the least controversial things I have said.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Or it could just be that he appreciated a top star like Bret Hart giving him a fantastic match.....Can anyone think of a WWE match he had that equals it?

    ReplyDelete
  27. So Triple H was scheduled to main event Wrestlemania and strangely enough wasn't in favor of Edge doing it instead. Cool. Cool cool cool.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't know. Much like Samson, I think that most of his power came from his hair.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Against Shane McMahon?

    ReplyDelete
  30. For as much bad heat as Pac got late in his run, dude is always cool in the shoot interviews and on twitter.

    ReplyDelete
  31. You got 55 upvotes earlier in the thread, you're doing alright.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hayes admitted that he didn't support Edge's first title run? Doesn't surprise me, Hayes is kind of a moron most of the time.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Who gives a flying shit about up votes and down votes on a god damn wrestling blog. It is a god damn blog message system people . It does not effect your life one single solitary bit whether dipshit #1 likes your comment or dipshit #2 doesn't like it. Grow the fuck up people, this isn't middle school.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yeah, I'm sure that he did appreciate it, and he actually said so in the interview. It was just the way he said it. When I heard the comment, I laughed, because it sounded like he would fit right in here.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Or a time when the top guy in the promotion made him looks like his equal?

    ReplyDelete
  36. I've just got to that point in my rewatching of Raw and they've seriously become the highlight of each show. All of them, plus Vince, the absolute highlight.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I don't think so. Pretty sure cultstatus had a an 80 something upvote post about a month ago. Pretty sure this is top 5 or so though. CotD maybe?

    ReplyDelete
  38. The Analog Kid could be Sean Waltman's new indie gimmick.

YYZ could be Jericho's new aerial finishing move (if he had one)

2112 is when Dolph Ziggler next gets to win a match.

Caress Of Steel is the new Conchairto. Or a description of getting a handjob from whichever of Luger's arms has the plate in it.

Cygnus X-1 Book 1: The Voyage is Jeff Hardy's pet name for his dick.

    ReplyDelete
  39. He was just doing what was right FOR THIS BUSINESS.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I was tempted to down vote but didn't, purely because of your poor grammar. Unless Hayes really was more than one person. #pedant #insomnia

    ReplyDelete
  41. Thanks! I love me some anecdotal evidence slandering!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Good point. I just went back and checked out that match-I hadn't watched it in a long time-and it actually holds up very well, much better than a lot of attitude era matches. For a change all the outside interference and general overbooking works to the matches advantage.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Good catch. Amend that to say "at least one of the people he was referring to was Hayes"

    ReplyDelete
  44. I refuse to believe I held Edge down... this is a flat out lie.

    ReplyDelete
  45. To be fair he admitted he was wrong and was glad that he was.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Huh huh...

I just made the # of upvotes 69.
Huh huh.. 69. That was cool.

Dammit, Beavis, what the hell was that?

Um, it was like, Brock Lesbian's theme or something. I like when it goes WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH at the start.

Huh huh... yeah, that part's pretty cool.

  47. One does not simply nominate oneself for CotD.

(I know, b/c I've had awesome comments that you buttmunches had no-sold.)

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm gonna like, get Todd to kick the ass of anyone who downvotes this. You probably like hang out with Stewart and stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Shane never had a boring match, every one of them entertains the hell out of me. Say what you will about the McMahons but they sure dont mind getting the shit beat out of em.

    ReplyDelete
  50. He seems like a good guy, much like Shawn, I think drugs were a big part of his douchebaggery.

    ReplyDelete
  51. You just wrote more words about this subject than I've ever seen anyone else write. So to answer your original question....I'd say you.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I have seen Rush here in Pittsburgh four or five times and they never fail to talk about getting their start here... it is nice because it is not they typical "we drove in on I79" banter- it is genuine and real... they only other performer I can really remember actually talking specifically about Pittsburgh was Axl Rose who went on and on about how much he hated Terry Bradshaw because he lost money betting against the Steelers.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The most I've gotten is 60 something, pretty sure 82 is the record.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I nominate this for Worst Post of the Year.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Don't let 'em grind you down, I upvoted you.

    Deutschland uber alles!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I like this Beavis and Butthead post. Got anymore, Lerxst?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Wow, so we have someone outright spouting anti-Semitism.

    ReplyDelete
  58. No, your post up above explicitly praising anti-Semitism wins that award.

    ReplyDelete
  59. YYZ could be Jericho's new aerial finishing move (if he had one)

Except WWE would pull a WCW/Ultimo/Ultimate Dragon and always using the English pronunciation of "Z." Drives me crazy anytime people are like, "Oh man, I love WHY-WHY-ZEE!"

    Here's a hint: he's dead, baby.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Actually, I think "Losing It" would be a better explanation of Ziggler's run.

Waltman's finisher would naturally be Kid Gloves.

Swagger would be A Passage to Bangkok.

Kerry von Erich actually was Tom Sawyer.

I guess you could say that the 1st WM being at MSG was Vince's Manhattan Project.

The theme for all the promoters would be Carnies.

And of course, the theme for wrestling as a whole pre-VKM takeover would be... Territories.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Did You Know?
Edge is #112 on the Bret Hart list of a 1000 wrestlers better than HHH.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Not anymore!!! :: is overwhelmed with tears ::

    ReplyDelete
  63. Paul Heyman didn't like Edge's spear.

    ReplyDelete
  64. The commentary during any Stooge segment is priceless, especially when they joke about Patterson's sexuality.

"Dear God, and HE'S SINGLE FELLAS!"

I can't wait to get to the episode where they start coming out to Real American.

    ReplyDelete
  65. damn 96... thats a record.

    ReplyDelete
  66. you are working your way into uncharted territory with this gimmick.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Im picking my spots, I was shifted down to doing dark matches and youtube shows but Im finally back on tv...

    ReplyDelete
  68. I'd say you're just more anti-German, seeing as how I just liked his joke and I quoted Germany's national anthem.

    ReplyDelete
  69. 98 now... seriously someone else upvote it... 100 or bust!

    ReplyDelete
  70. 100th! Nice. Does that mean you'll review a wrestling dvd of my choice?

I may have mixed this up with something else...

    ReplyDelete
  71. Let it be said that Parallax1978 has reached the unreachable star!

And I will happily review any DVD... not the program recorded on it, but the actual, physical DVD itself. #witty
