Barry Blaustein Interview

Hey Scott,

I know RAW has you feeling melancholy, so maybe the director of Beyond the Mat will cheer you up. He revealed why he won't be attending Foley's induction, Linda McMahon's reaction to the film, and his thoughts on Jake the Snake's so called recovery. Plus, as a bonus, Barry Blaustein shared his two cents on the last segment of RAW! HEY BUDDY!

You want to tell stories...THIS MAN HAS STORIES!

I miss Jesse Ventura's yearly shout-out to Barry at Wrestlemania.  It was part of the tradition of the show.

  1. Jesus, the audio in that interview sucks.

  2. I'm lazy; I'd rather read articles. Anyone wanna given an overview? :)

  3. Still a great movie, just has this fascinating quality to it whether you're a fan or not. The stuff with Jake Roberts is amazing, albeit for all the wrong reasons.

  4. long before Beyond the Mat, Blaustein and writing partner Dave Sheffield worked for SNL, where their job was to take Eddie Murphy's raw, hilarious thoughts, and stenograph them into sketches.

Basically, you can partially credit Blaustein for saving SNL when the show was spiraling 30 years ago. Of course, that means you can also blame him for allowing Andy Samberg to have the outlet for his horrid shorts.

  5. He also co-wrote The Nutty Professor, so you could also credit him for helping Murphy save his career in the mid-90s...before he, you know, sank it again a decade later.

The dinner scene is still one of the most fucking hilarious things ever btw.

  6. Splutter, choke - he's on a motherfucking BOAT y'all!

  7. I enjoy at work when I lift something heavy and a black woman says " Hercaleese Hercaleese". Makes my day every time.

  8. I'm the same, I'd so much rather read a transcript.

  9. Fat people farting! So hilarious!

  10. Those shorts are the only good thing the show has done in years.

  11. Sam Jackson cussing was funny.

but pretty much everything he does gives me a chuckle

  12. I can't stand Andy Samberg--any role he's in NEVER makes me laugh. Maybe WWE creative writes for him ;)

  13. Hey Scotty, remember back in the RSPW days when "Lazy Sunday" was all the rage?

  14. From 411:

What Blaustein makes of Jake "The Snake" Roberts' ongoing rehab with Diamond Dallas Page:

"I wish him the best. I hope it's real. I hope it's sincere. You know, miracles do happen. I hope he does it for the sake of his family."

On why he won't be attending the WWE Hall of Fame to see Mick Foley inducted:

"I would love to go, but I think there are still people in the company that aren't fans of mine, because of the film. I would never put Mick in that position. He has been supportive of the film and I'm still very friendly with him. In my heart, I'll be rooting him on. I will say that in Mick's new DVD scheduled to be released, there is no mention in the chapters section of Beyond the Mat. For something called the Life and Times of Mick Foley, they are certainly rewriting history."

    On Paul Heyman:

"(Laughs) I just got up early and watched the end of Raw last night. Uh…I don't know what career on the line means exactly. I wish it was defined a little clearly. I love Paul. I used to tell him, with your mind, you could run a small country. Paul is a funny, smart, outrageous,a toned down version of what you see on TV."

  15. Samberg is unbearable. Just like Wiig.

  16. That movie is great. "Women be shoppin'!" "Well, women do like to shop."

  17. I prefer reading to listening as well. I can stop reading and think about that has been said at my own pace or skip ahead if they're telling a story I already know. With audio/visual interviews, you have to follow along at their speed instead.

  18. Terri, Tyrel and Jade.Jesse's other yearly wrestlemania shout out.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I liked Samberg in I Love You Man. That's it.

I will never understand what was funny about Bridesmaids. Must be a chick thing.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I remember hearing Barry's name once, but I thought Terry, Tyrel, and Jade (wife and kids) was his only annual one. Could be wrong!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Maybe you'll meet a chick some day and you can ask her?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Rough day at school Dougie? Get pushed in the mud again?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I really enjoy I live you man. He adds nothing to that movie anyway. Bridesmaids was shit...ditto for the hangovers.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Farts are funny. Even a fucking five year old knows that.

    ReplyDelete
  25. "For something called the Life and Times of Mick Foley, they are certainly rewriting history."

Well, that doesn't sound like WWE at all!

  26. I think I was gone by then...
