The SmarK Rant for TNA Impact–04.25.13

The SmarK Rant for TNA Impact – 04.25.13

Live from Indiana, PA

Your hosts are Todd Keneley, Tazz and Mike Tenay

James Storm joins us to start, and AJ Styles is watching from the stands. He’s upset at the “Aces & Idiots”. Oh, damn, I better write that one down! This brings out Bad Influence, who were also victims last week, and they want to reunite Fortune to even things up. Kaz notes that AJ needs to stop brooding like a Twilight vampire and get away from the “fartknockers” in the audience. You know, I was just the other day wondering to myself when someone would say “fartknocker” on national TV, and there it is. Sadly, Storm stands up for the fartknockers in the audience, and gets attacked by our heroes as a result. And with him laid out and helpless, Aces & Idiots come out to finish him off, but Joseph Park makes an effort at saving him and does pretty well at it before taking a beatdown. And in fact he gets to take 3D through a table because Bully wanted to make a special example out of him.

After a break, we return with Bully’s weekly state of the union address, and we ain’t got no heroes left. Well, except maybe Hulk Hogan, and Bully is calling him out TONIGHT.

Taryn Terrell v. Tara

Taryn is really upset about something and attacks with a hairtoss and choking in the corner, before Tara dumps her to the apron to take over. Catapult into the corner sets up an indian deathlock as I stop to wonder where Jessie is. Taryn makes the comeback, but walks into a choke and Tara gets two. Tara works the count a few times and cuts off a comeback, but Taryn rolls her up for the pin at 6:30. Wow, that was long. ½*

Meanwhile, Robbie answers my question by trying to recruit Jesse as his new bro. And all he has to do is beat Rob Terry.

Rob Terry v. Jessie Godderz

Jessie goes after the knee and pounds away, but comes off the middle rope and gets powerslammed for two before Robbie E saves. Terry throws Jessie into Robbie in an impressive spot, and back in to finish with the spinebuster at 3:02. They should keep Robbie and Jessie together, that’s a great combo. This match, not so much. ½*

Meanwhile, Bad Influence continues on their Fortune reunion quest, and Bobby Roode appears to be open to the idea.

TNA World tag titles: Chavo Guerrero & Hernandez v. Austin Aries & Bobby Roode

Aries does some showboating on Chavo, but walks into a dropkick and a nice backdrop suplex from Chavo that gets two. Aries blocks a headscissors and tags Roode in, and he’s also dominated by Hernandez. Delayed vertical suplex for Roode and Aries takes a gorilla press, but Air Mexico misses by a mile and Roode gets two. To the heel corner, where they work out their differences long enough to double-team Hernandez with various dirty heel tactics. Roode legsweep gets two. Hernandez catches Aries on a bodypress attempt and runs the heels into each other, and it’s hot tag Chavo, although the crowd doesn’t really buy into him. DDT on Roode gets two. Hernandez sets up for the Border Toss, but Kaz gets involved and the challengers can’t capitalize. Daniels comes in for some direct interference, but he screws up as well and Chavo finishes Roode with the frog splash at 8:50 to retain. This was fun, but they should have kept the belts on Roode & Aries and moved onto the Bad Influence feud. **1/2

Matt Morgan comes out to bitch about Hulk Hogan and his various friends, and that brings Hulk out. So here’s the endgame of Morgan’s deal: He wants to be the guy to help Hogan take out the Aces…in exchange for a title shot at Slammiversary. Hogan’s not willing to go down that road, brother, and he’ll just face Bully alone tonight rather than make a deal with Morgan. And by the way, Andre the Giant never came out and cried like a little bitch. This probably won’t end well for Hulk.

TNA Knockouts Title: Velvet Sky v. Mickie James

They trade takedowns to start and Velvet gets a seated dropkick for two, but hurts her knee coming out of the corner. Mickie gets two off that and goes to a kneebar as we take a break. Back with Mickie still working on it with an STF, but Sky makes the ropes. She comes back, but the knee buckles again. She gets a Russian legsweep anyway for two, but James kicks her in the knee and follows with an enzuigiri, and the flying senton gets two. Velvet keeps randomly coming back and fighting off Mickie, and she’s TOTALLY unconvincing with this knee injury deal. Mickie dropkicks the knee, but Velvet cradles for the pin at 10:56. And this leads to nothing, as they cut to the back without so much as a facial reaction from Mickie. Velvet is just terrible, but that’s a broken record at this point. Mickie was trying hard here to get something out of her, but the “knee injury” was ridiculous, with Velvet doing stuff no human being who was supposedly that injured would be doing. *

Main Event Interview: Bully Ray calls out Hulk Hogan, who so help me god is booking himself as the superheroic savior of TNA now. With “Immortal” tattooed across his back.  Bully insults and slaps him until Hulk makes the big comeback, chasing off the TNA World champion with his 1985 Sunday punches, but then the lights go out and Sting returns, allowing the senior citizens to do what no one else in TNA could do and fight off the Aces. I keep thinking that they couldn’t POSSIBLY be stupid enough to actually go that route, but here we are again.

The Pulse

Note to TNA: If Hulk Hogan and Sting were the solution to the ratings problems, it would have happened FIVE YEARS AGO. Hogan killed off Roode’s push and then killed off Storm’s push, and now he’s the only one left who can save TNA, brother.

Oh brother.

Comments

  1. I'm surprised but I actually have been digging the Matt Morgan thing over the past few weeks. He's made good points and his delivery has been great. Not a fan of Morgan but he's been great recently and a Bully/Morgan match built to for Impact would be pretty cool.

I seriously have to question two 55+ year olds taking out your big heel stable by themselves, especially when you are pushing them as having taken out all of our "heroes" and being unstoppable.

Oh and I read the spoilers for next weeks Impact. Allow me to blow my brains out now. Fuj you were wrong, it didn't take them til the fall to fuck it up.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Indiana, PA is basically close enough to Pittsburgh where you can say that TNA was in Pgh, but it's far enough away from Pgh where it's a trek, especially on a work night. I've been to that arena before for a (Saturday) TNA house show, and it was fun, and I strongly considered going for tonight's Impact. But like I said, it's far enough away to be a deal breaker, and aside from what was probably cool at least for the live audience (Sting's return), the live ep wasn't anything I'm sorry I missed. Not sure about next week's taped show, so we'll see.

Did anyone else notice the crowd actually get really into the Knockouts' title match? It was weird; all of a sudden they got really loud and into it.

And Hogan fighting off Bully Ray really exposed THIS BUSINESS, as they say.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I noticed that too. I was tuning out of the match and was reading something. When I heard the crowd heat up I had to look up and see what was going on.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Something I realized about Taz this evening that's really frustrating: he's totally coming off like the little guy who knows he's got big muscle behind him, but the problem is that we know Taz himself will never get his, given his real-life issues with being broken down. He's actually pretty infuriating on commentary, but there's no chance for a pay-off, which means you just kind of have to suffer through everything he says.

I know it won't happen, but it would be cool if when Taz went off about being untouchable, someone basically called him on his shit by saying that he's untouchable only b/c he's so broken down that he needs to be coddled, and that he's got other people doing his heavy work for him.

So in that sense, as a heel, mission accomplished, I guess...? He's really in a weird position. Like I said, he does everything on commentary that's the equivalent of inciting the crowd, but we at home have to just grin and bear it b/c we can't get the satisfaction of him getting his ass beat.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Also, on that list of potential X-Division challengers: Suicide? Really? He wasn't over even when he was over!

I liked he vignette for Sabin, though. At least he's grown his hair out and has changed his look up a little.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Here's how I would book the pay-off to Taz.

He's in the ring with Aces and Eights, some babyfaces whoop the entire crew till it's just Taz cowering in the middle of the ring. Babyface walks up, pulls back his fist, Taz flinches, and the Babyface walks away.

Have them cut a promo about how hurting a has-been like Taz is shameful, and that having Taz live with the fact that he can't fight his own battles anymore is the worse fate.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Nice. But it's also sad in a weird way.

    ReplyDelete
  8. TNA fucks up everything.

    ReplyDelete
  9. We need Suicide vs Homicide. Then the lights go out Sabu appears....

    ReplyDelete
  10. Or Judas Priest's "Genocide" plays while the 1st two are wrestling.

...I just wanted to mention the Judas Priest song. :\

    ReplyDelete
  11. This is...what...the 3rd or 4th time we've had an "OMG! Sting is BACK!" reveal for just the Aces & Eights angle alone?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Was Hogan's Immortal tattoo cringe worthy or what?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Just read the spoilers...

    It sucks.

But like Scott said in the review "Hogan killed off Roode’s push and then killed off Storm’s push, and now he’s the only one left who can save TNA, brother."

MEANWHILE the people who should be headlining against Bully are languishing in a meaningless tag feud against each other... Killing each others momentum/heat off.

Im not gonna say I told you so...

    ReplyDelete
  14. I was just thinking, shouldn't somebody be gone for at least 1/4 the year before a return is worthy of a "holy shit" moment?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'll angrily admit it. I was just expecting a few months before you could bask in your victory. I love Aries as a heel but he had fire as a face. Totally could be feuding with Bully. Maybe that's what they are heading to with teasing a Fortune reunion which would leave Aries out in the cold.

    It's terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Now THAT'S the TNA I remember: crappy shit with Hogan and Sting on top like it's 1997. VINTAGE IMPACT!

So since that sucked, allow me a threadjack: I think it's awesome Oakland A's outfielder Josh Reddick comes out to random WWE music. Today, I had the A's game on TV as background noise while I was writing a paper, and all of a sudden, I hear the Coliseum's PA blare "I'M HERE TO SHOW THE WORLD, I'M HERE TO SHOW THE WORLD...BRING IT OOONNNN!!!" Since he usually cycles through different themes, Reddick is like a one-man Royal Rumble, never knowing what theme song is gonna drop next.

He should take it a step farther and actually mimic a wrestler's intro during his walk-up. Like pick Undertaker's theme then take seven minutes to saunter to the batter's box.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Or perhaps this is their transition. Maybe Bully Ray will absolutely crush Sting & Hulk Hogan, and instead of looking to the past, they need to look to people like AJ Styles.

Without Russo being there, it's a possibility.

    ReplyDelete
  18. That's a possibility but honestly they haven't built enough trust or goodwill in me to even think that will happen. It isn't like WWE where I'm a lifelong fan so I can put up with more shit. With Impact I put up with less due to their history.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Is that the guy who was in a beard-off with Daniel Bryan?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think the end result is logical, but they took a pretty counter-productive approach to delivering it. Ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  21. That's pretty cool. Though he lost the beard-off. First guy to job to Daniel Bryan in forever.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Maybe he(Aries) and Joey Ryan can awkwardly ride on rocking horses together.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Terry throws Jessie into Robbie

This reminded me of when tommy does his 'the Canadian hits a German on the Samoan' awful catchphrase. Please don't do that again.

    ReplyDelete
  24. My favorite part was Morgan saying Sting had been Hogan's best friend for twenty years.

    ReplyDelete
  25. And Sting (being Sting after all) trusts his recollection completely.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I never watch Impact and only follow by scanning these rants, but even I knew Sting hadn't been gone long enough to make a "shocking return"

    ReplyDelete
  27. Omg that sounds like a shitty episode

    ReplyDelete
  28. Where are Shark Boy and D-Ray 3000 to stop Aces & Eights?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Thanks to the Draft I didn't watch it live and was going to wait for the weekend to do so. After reading this, I won't be watching at all! Thank you Mr. Keith!

    ReplyDelete
  30. He's a character in a show.... He can handle it. And he can take solace in the fact that he was pretty badass back in the day.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I apologize for all of the down votes... no idea what problem anyone would have with this.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Does it strike you as particularly likely that Jessie Godderz will get used as a lawn dart on a regular basis? Because I think then I'd probably do it MORE.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I just meant the, for lack of a better term, extended alliteration. The three names ending in y sound forming a pattern.

    ReplyDelete
  34. "They should keep Robbie and Jessie together, that’s a great combo."

Since people are talking spoilers, it looks like they will put Robbie, Jessie and Joey Ryan together which would be a good comedy stable. They should either have Tara manage or bring in a new KO and they all take turns hitting on her.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I knew it was a good idea to never start watching this show!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Scream09_HartKillerApril 26, 2013 at 8:50 AM

Considering how slow and long a baseball game is, I don't think a 7 minute walk to the batters box would seem out of place.

I love baseball though. I can't talk shit about it without clarifying that.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Scream09_HartKillerApril 26, 2013 at 8:51 AM

I don't understand why a guy gets to his mid-50's and starts getting tattoos. Also puzzling is why he'd want to draw attention to his saggy, scarred back like that.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Scream09_HartKillerApril 26, 2013 at 8:53 AM

Then down the road you could have a heel messing with him and he regains his balls and stands up to them.

    ReplyDelete
  39. ... Except he can't "stand up to them". And no, that was NOT a midget joke.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I know I am probably ruining the joke here but that match did actually happen. Homicide beat Suicide for the X-Division Title.

    ReplyDelete
  41. crisis on infinite brothers.

    ReplyDelete
  42. WWE should do another King Of The Ring tournament and then have the winner be taken out by debuting wrestler Regicide!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Ugh, what a letdown after such a good run of shows. I swear the problem has to be Dixie. She knows nothing about THIS BUSINESS beyond whatever lie she's fed she believes, and is such a mark for Hogan and "pre-established stars" (like Hogan, Bischoff, Russo, etc.) and she falls for the same tired ass bullshit ideas they feed her. I can imagine Pritchard ripping his hair out trying to advance all these storylines and getting better and better in quality only to have her top it off with whatever egomaniacal horseshit Hogan insists on pushing to justify propping up his fading aura. Like Flair, Hogan needs to wake up and realize the life he was used to IS OVER. It can't be all about him anymore, it ruins everything he touches.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Two people (at the moment) clearly have no taste in music

    ReplyDelete
  45. Only way TNA has a chance is if someone comes in and buys out Panda and Dixie(hey Shane McMahon! Tired of China yet?), gets rid of Hogan and Bischoff and risks pissing off Spike.

That's a lot of ifs. Much more likely that Hogan adds another promotion to his killed list.

    ReplyDelete
  46. You and who else?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Sorry, chuckles, Judas Priest is awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I clearly have a stalker who downvotes my posts that don't hold valence either way.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I missed Impact this week.. Doesn't sound like I missed much. That's too bad.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Lotta asshats on the BoD

    ReplyDelete
  51. The word you're looking for is assonance.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh you know that Hogan's going to be front and center when AJ gets his revenge. That's even if they do the right thing and have him beat Bully at BFG

    ReplyDelete
  53. I don't hate putting Hulk and Sting into the story right now. If the idea is to have them fight A&8 at Slammiversary, that is an okay way to continue to build A&8 on the way to an ultimate defeat at BFG. Have Hulk and Sting beaten at Slammiversary and have the beginnings of a Team TNA to rule them all making the save. They've got time.

    ReplyDelete
  54. So Sting and Hogan were useless to WCW? They never drew a dime for them, never made money for them?

All they did was ruin WCW? Am I right? Despite the fact that Hogan was no longer involved in WCW by July 2000.

Sting and Hogan never drew money for WCW. Starrcade 1997 was a myth? As that what you are implying.

    ReplyDelete
  55. What was the buyrate for the ppv WCW put on last month?

    ReplyDelete
  56. I don't know. You tell me. You seem more concerned about buyrates that don't affect you in real life.

    ReplyDelete
  57. You seem more concerned about promotions that don't exist in real life.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I agree,

Roode and Aries dominated 2012, it's good to cycle them out and have people wanting more instead of the John Cena perpetual main event run I think..

Also its not like Roode & Aries are losing clean matches to flavors of the month, they are still featured performers and over enough to carry alternate programs. The tag division is interesting because of Roode, Aries & Bad Influence. Chavo & Supermex are a decent team but boring as fuck, those two teams make matches/feuds interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  59. No. I was more concerned about Hogan and Sting.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'd be too if I was a TNA fan.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Not really a TNA fan. I am a Jeff Hardy fan. I just don't get bothered by seeing the old guys on the show as others do.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Also, a heel Roode vs Bully Ray program as the main event. Would that work? Than you have to change Roode to a babyface. Would that work?

    ReplyDelete
  63. They blew the ending badly, Sting should have had a huge run eventually losing to Hogan who'd put over Goldberg IMO but the build was amazing.

Hot different was this promo, the guy was mega over, biggest star in 1997 without talking or wrestling.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eh0u8-vgMQI

    ReplyDelete
  64. Heels shouldn't get happy endings.

If he turns face again, let him hit somebody with a chair.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Iron Maiden were superior musicians, but Judas Priest is badass, no doubt.

BREAKING THE LAW BREAKING THE LAW

    ReplyDelete
  66. Regicide would be a pretty awesome name for a finisher.

    ReplyDelete
  67. POETRY BITCH SLIP!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Well, Hogan wanted to bring Sting in for WrestleMania 2.

    ReplyDelete
  69. AJ will lose at BFG. Then they'll do the title change on the taped show that airs ten days later.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Why does everybody think Pritchard is some sort of genius?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Cause the pay-off is watching a mid fifties cripple beat up the top heel.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I've never come across anyone who's referred to him as some sort of genius.

    ReplyDelete
  73. They always get lumped together, but they really are apples and oranges.

    But they both rule.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Hoping this leads to Morgan KTFO'ing everybody. It's only logical, and he's been doing good promos. He and AJ teaming up would be pretty logical, really. Both have no reason to hook up with either side.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Madison Rayne needs to manage them. Where in the hell has she been anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  76. That catchphrase is awful. It was only funny when Jerry Lawler used it during the main event of WrestleMania XI.

    ReplyDelete
  77. It gets worse next week.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Another brilliant move by Hogan. Position yourself against the top heels even you can't take a bump.

"Sorry, my back. That doesn't work for me, brother."

    ReplyDelete
  79. cuz he worked in vinces inner circle for years?

    ReplyDelete
  80. About a month ago she announced on twitter that she is pregnant.

    ReplyDelete
  81. lol...

    you'll learn

    ReplyDelete
  82. You don't believe that AJ or Storm will be the guy to take down Bully Ray? You really think Hogan is going to interfere with that?

    ReplyDelete
  83. i dont know how many times ive explained this...

but apparently people are starting to see what ive been saying for months about tna.

    they sabotage all the faces.

im not gonna explain it again. im gonna let you tell me and blog what happens a couple of months from now.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I know they ruined Roode back in 2011. I am not giving up on storm being ruined. Listen, if it does not add up to either AJ or Storm defeating Bully Ray for the title in October, then I will finally join the chorus of boos.

I just don't buy that Hogan does this on purpose to sabotage the guys. I just think he believes in waiting and developing a long feud before making the switch.

    ReplyDelete
  85. you didnt get the memo...

    Storm has been ruined.

he was ruined the moment aries beat roode for the title.
btw, aries face heat has been killed too...

    sorry bro...

    ReplyDelete
  86. He has done it in every. single. promotion. he. has. been. in. But this time is different I swear.

    ReplyDelete
  87. and out of all the things you can get tattooed on yourself, you choose the name of a stable(and not even one that's worth it) that hasn't been active in nearly 2 years.

    ReplyDelete
  88. That's how you feel and I respect that. I am not going to change your opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  89. It's not an opinion, it's a fact.

    ReplyDelete
  90. He put over the Ultimate Warrior at Wrestlemania 5.
He put over Goldberg on WCW Nitro in July 1998
He put over The Rock at Wrestlemania in 2002.
He put over Triple H at backlash 2002.

    ReplyDelete
  91. You really going to bust out 2002(btw, he didn't put over HHH)? It's the ultimate example of how Hogan sabotages people and why he is wrestling's greatest politician.

And the fact that you also named Goldberg leads me to believe you have no idea what you're talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Warrior was at WM6, and if Hogan REALLY put him over, he (Hogan) would have left for a while. NOT main evented Summerslam against Earthquake while what could've been a blood feud between Warrior and Rude was shunted to a sideshow.

He did put over Goldberg... who was basically relegated to the midcard, and finally derailed by Nash, who promptly put Hogan back over. Fingerpoke of Doom/politics as usual anyone?

Hogan/Rock could have been Andre/Hogan... well, except for the fans deciding to swap their roles. Granted, it made the match quite entertaining, but if those fans had known what it would've resulted in, they might not have been so "Bizarro".

He put over HHH, so what. Anything with two legs willing to lie down put over HHH in that timeframe. At least if they wanted a job...

Now, using him putting over Brock would've been more in-line with the idea you were going for. But out of those four, NONE of them got more than a small bump, or their heat reduced in other ways.

    ReplyDelete
  93. My mistake on Triple H. Triple lost to Hogan.

Whose career has he sabotage other than the usual answer of Randy Savage?

    ReplyDelete
  94. Sting, Bret Hart, Yoko, Austin, Nash and Hall's WWE run, the entire WCW undercard, HHH, Warrior, Sid, TNA.

That's just off the top of my head. Plenty of other examples.

    ReplyDelete
  95. 1 - Nobody thinks anyone in TNA is a star.
2 - Sid was crazy and unstable.
3 - Warrior was put over at WM 6. It later turned out he was crazy and unstable.
4 - Hall...it's Hall. He ruined his own career.
5 - Nash only cared about money.
6 - Yoko did beat Hogan at King of The Ring in 1993.
7 - Austin was sabotaged by Hogan in WCW. Austin also stated in the past that Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes were not very good to him either.
Plus, ended up doing well for himself.
8 - Nobody forced Bret Hart to sign a big contract with WCW.

    ReplyDelete
  96. -Sting: Absolutely.
-Hart/Yoko: Two for one there Hogan. WM9 was a DISASTER.
-Austin: Okay, so he doesn't go to WCW, and Austin stays. I'd bet everything I own Austin doesn't make HALF of what ended up making as Stone Cold. I hate to say it, but he gets a pass here.
-Hall/Nash WWE: Yeah, Hall was F'ed up, and Nash was injury prone. If Hogan gets ANY blame, it's 10% at most.
-WCW undercard: YES. He's not alone, but he did/didn't do enough to get off from this one.
-HHH: If you're referring to 2002, no dice. If anything, here's one where he would've been JUSTIFIED in burying Trips (in hindsight, of course), if he had any such power.

    -Warrior: YES.
    -Sid: Kinda/sorta...?
-TNA: Yeah, Hogan's been part of some crap during his time there.

    ReplyDelete
  97. 1: And why is that? Hogan has to accept SOME blame there, along with a LOT of other people.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Your hindsight excuses don't work for me, brother.

    1. TNA isn't a star, it's worse, it's a promotion he is running.

    2. Doesn't matter, he was chosen to be the guy and Hogan politic'd to make sure he wasn't

    3. See above.

4-5. Again, what does personal lives have to do with it? Hogan was brought in as a heel and to be apart of the nWo. Then all of the sudden he is winning the WWE title off HHH as a babyface. Hogan-1 Clique-0

    6. After stealing his thunder at 9. And it's not like Hogan had any other choice, he was leaving.

    7. Yeah, Austin did well for himself, and WCW went out of business.

    8. Refused to put him over in WWE, destroyed the hottest ticket in the business at the time in WCW. Right, this was all Bret's fault.

    ReplyDelete
  99. What I mean by that is that the TNA guys are considered minor league players by a majority of fans. Even if TNA had a legit draw and attraction in a wrestler, fans will say he is not in the WWE so it does not count.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I know Austin wouldn't have become "Stone Cold" if he stays in WCW, it isn't the point. The point is that he ran out a talented guy and when it was time push new guys, you're left with Mark Jindrak and Jeff Jarrett instead of Steve Austin and Chris Jericho.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Here's the thing: Those "minor leaguers" CAN become major leaguers, if given the right booking/chances to shine. If they fail, then they fail.

BUT, to put over old, washed up has-beens who ONCE WERE stars, and only get "nostalgia"/"sympathy" pops now, means those "minor leaguers" will stay there.

In all honesty, torches shouldn't need to be passed, they should be taken. And TNA has a LOT of talent that seems ready to take those torches. So let them.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I don't see Austin happily toiling away in the mid-card for that long. I can agree that Hogan and Friends ran him off... but it's not like he was leaving a great situation anyway.

  103. He wouldn't have toiled away in the mid-card any longer than he did in WWE. Remember, dude was US champ, feuding with Steamboat when Hogan came in. Wasn't like he was a jobber.

  104. Hulk Hogan showing up in places like Jonesboro, AR, Corpus Christi, TX and Indiana, PA is a major thing... probably been 20-25 years since he had been in those towns (if ever), so people are excited to see him in person one more time.

But it's not translating to viewers at home... Hogan isn't a TV draw anymore, at least the non-wrestler Hogan who's on TV every week.

  105. Kinda like how FU was named in the Brock feud and stuck, Regicide would be an awesome name for something someone used to take out HHH.

  106. The problem with TNA is that they so desperately want to be WWE. They want that spot. That isn't going to happen. They should just focus on becoming a profitable #2. There is plenty of room in this country for 2 profitable wrestling companies, even if one is a distant #2.

  107. But did Homicide really beat him? Or did Suicide just do himself in?

    ReplyDelete
  108. I don't understand why they did that, still. Aries wins the title cutting Storm's balls off. But hey they have a hot new face--oh no they turned him heel and he lost the title to Jeff Hardy. WHAT!?

  109. Yeah but would Shane go to war with his dad? Hell he didn't even stick around to muddy the waters about who was taking over when Vince died.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I get what you were going for but only pulling out 3 examples of Hogan putting someone over in a 30+ year career doesn't help your case much.

  111. Robbie E and Jesse together sounds so so right. Although they need to do some name work. I've always hated Robbie E as a name just because the two E's together is awkward. Jesse by itself is both boring and already taken (him vs. Doc to get that proper Jesse vs. Festus match!) And Godderz sounds like a South Park slashfic character. Maybe go with Jesse G. and shorten it to Rob E.? Adding Joey Ryan will also be perfect, although he doesn't need to be Joe R.

I guarantee I've thought more about this than anyone alive.

  112. WAY worse.

  113. Extremely doubtful, but I can dream can't I? And it would easily be the biggest wrestling story since WWE bought WCW.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Honestly if that happened I think the two sides would publicly play up the war aspect but they'd be in cahoots behind the scenes. Treating TNA as a sort of feeder system. It would be a damn cool bit of symmetry seeing Shane O'mac show up on Impact telling Vince he bought the company.

  115. Why not just Robbie, Jesse, and Joey? They all end on that -e sound. But yes, adding Joey as the delusional third wheel would be excellent.

  117. Fartknockers is a classic Beavis & Butt-head insult. I whole-heartedly approve.

  118. Gay people are smart?

    Huh...
