  1. He'll be back, probably around Rumble-time again. And so will you. And you. And YOU...

    ReplyDelete
  2. glad to see big show coming back. this heel run since he feuded with sheamus last year has been my favorite work of his career.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Coming back for that mania payday!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Of course I'll be back! If he didn't tour, I'd never leave!

    ReplyDelete
  5. I wouldn't take any chances with Orton. They could get just as much mileage with him with a couple of weeks of hit-and-run RKO's and wouldn't have to risk further injury.

'I wouldn't take any chances with Orton.'

i agree. they should give him the rest of his career off to be safe

    ReplyDelete
  7. Can't really find anything bad about this Jericho run. The Rumble surprise was awesome, he had good matches every week, put over Fandango, and worked with a returning Punk and RVD.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I was never a huge ECW fan, but that DVD set looks like it could be pretty good. Then again, it's ECW, so there's no telling what the match quality is going to be.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Imagine the hilarity if his gimmick was just popping out of nowhere and hitting people with an RKO.

Not in the mind, but backstage - from behind soda machines, masquerading as a sofa, coming out of a car.....like the Stasiak Sneak Attack angle from 2002.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Or the Kanyon Kutter angle in WCW.

    ReplyDelete
  11. The ECW set looks fantastic. I watched the first volume on NetFlix. I haven't seen WWE add any new content to NetFlix lately. Does anyone know if that's over with now? Do I need to actually start buying the damned DVDs again?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Y2J leaving = best news I've heard all day.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Jericho's had an awesome run this year. Great matches on TV and PPV, and it's been fun to finally see him working as a face again.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Can't stand the guy. Bores me to tears.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Man, if you find him boring , I'm curious to see who you find exciting?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Bryan, Punk, Cena, Lesnar and others. Jericho's a channel-changer for me.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Jericho will be back after all the crappy European metal festivals wrap up for the summer.

    ReplyDelete
  18. What other terrible opinions do you have just for the sake of being a contrarian?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Shield destroying Show and Henry at Summerslam?

Shield destroying Show and Henry at Summerslam.

    ReplyDelete
  20. They announced a new one?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Finding Jericho boring makes me a contrarian? Okay.

    ReplyDelete
  22. People have different opinions than me! They must be lying!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Apparently they are serious about incorporating the Bellas into Daniel Bryan v John Cena. Apart from squandering the potential of the build being based on skill and position in the company, I find it a little insulting that they'd devote their summerslam main event to promote the closest thing they've had to a mainstream show about divas nontheless, I'd be even more pissed off if Bryan lost and this entire push was just to promote the damn show.

Other than that though, talking from a purely narrative/writer viewpoint. It's interesting to add a legit love interest for someone like bryan (especially when he's a face), usually they do that to add a sense of masculinity and propogate the traditional archetype of the hero with the beautiful damsel (although it's evidence of lazy writing) and from a casual point of view, seeing a guy like daniel bryan with a girl like nikki (brie?) bella based purely on the iconography, makes Bryan look even more badass in real life and therefore his persona is much more desirable to the average joe watching the show. "hey who is this guy? look at him beat up everyone else? look he's got a awesome beard and the crowd fucking adores him, look at his exciting moves, he's got a hot girlfriend and he could be champ!" I'm gonna root for this guy!

And that's how Daniel Bryan could be the man if WWE (in a rare case) plays it absolutely perfect. It's certainly a far cry from the dorky vegan who got made fun of by the bellas and kept losing and getting trashed every single match on commentary by michael cole as being the nerdiest whitest loser. Not that anyone should listen to cole...but it certainly didn't help, and it meant a lot in the closing moments of raw when Cole called Bryan..."the hottest superstar in the WWE" that's one hell of a closing line for anyone tuning in to watch the next show.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I really enjoyed this run too, he had a wide range of matches, from big main event types to putting over new guys in the mid card, and he left us with some great 4 star stuff. Should definitely come back as a heel and challenge Dolph or Bryan in a nice month long feud.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I just saw a commercial for the Divas show, and apparently it shows that the Funkadactyls don't get along behind the scenes?

    ReplyDelete
  26. While he's at it, he should start wearing a huge bandage around his torso.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Calling Chris Jericho a channel changer and John Cena exciting is the very definition of trolling. Especially since he's obviously basing this off of character, rather than ring work.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Reality TV is generally fake, Wrestling is fake...so how scripted would a reality tv show based on wrestling be? I don't know but I am intrigued by the show and it could be entertaining if only to see their interactions with the actual men and other women and the staff of the business backstage.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Most of the crowd seems to disagree with you.

    ReplyDelete
  30. It won't let me both downvote AND upvote this!!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm sure most people here agree that Jericho is anything but a channel changer.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Most people here do not represent the entire audience. They don't even represent most of the audience.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Group think or GTFO

    ReplyDelete
  34. From all accounts, he's a positively marvelous human being, and I respect the hell out of him. But I don't think there's a single presence in all of wrestling that inspires utter exasperation in me more than The Big Show.

    ReplyDelete
  35. This gimmick is old considering it's not true. There are equal people on both sides. In fact, Mar got 6 downvotes and Mike Mears got 5. So, to summarize, there isn't a group think. I find it crazy that someone thinks Jericho is a channel changer but the dude is entitled to think that and I'm ok with it.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Did you enjoy Punk-Jericho at WWE Payback?

    ReplyDelete
  37. He got called a troll for having a difference of opinion... which happens all the time here... Its perfectly true and not a gimmick.

When I see evidence that someone can have an unpopular opinion and not get called a name for it I will think otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Well, you've called people trolls before and so have I. Sometimes, it's unfortunate and it's an initial reaction. However, the downvotes show that it's not a "group think" scenario like you keep insisting.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Saying "If your opinion differs from mine you are a troll" means you have to think the same way as the person saying, who generally believes he is speaking for the masses, hence group think. A slight modification in of wording could prevent this "Wow you really think so? That is certainly a strange opinion" or something like that... but less dorky sounding.

    ReplyDelete
  40. True. I think folks wouldn't be called trolls if others didn't occasionally dabble in doing so. I don't believe in the philosophy that every opinion is valid. If someone says Mozart was a shitty composer, I'm going to think they're trolling. If someone says Shawn Michaels was a terrible wrestler, I'm going to think they're trolling. I take past behavior into account before I lance out with a trolling accusation, but let's not pretend that everyone posting here on the interwebs, has great intentions.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm basing it off of both. Objectively, I'm perfectly happy to accept that Jericho is a good worker (though not a great one like so many say/believe). However, his matches bore me. His character, too, doesn't work for me. Especially as a heel, it seems to be either overly cartoonish and unconvincing Undisputed/mid-aughts Jericho, or yawn-inducing, verbose Jericho (to me, there's nothing entertaining or masterful about calling people "sycophants" in a low voice and glaring a lot).

Cena, on the other hand, is a lot more exciting to me in the ring, and I find his promos more engaging/entertaining even if his character is incredibly stable. Certainly I think he's a better worker than Y2J. I won't compare them as mic workers since that stuff's more subjective than in-ring skill IMO.

For my money, Jericho and Kurt Angle are the two most overrated (by the "IWC") wrestlers ever. Jericho's a good wrestler (but never better than "just" good) who's touted as an all-time great by so many. Angle's a mediocre worker who was good/great a long time ago, but who a lot of people still think is great (though thankfully some people do see just how far he's fallen).

    ReplyDelete
  42. I find him boring as well and always have. I don't know what it is about him, but outside of his early run in WCW where he was a whiny heel, his work has been just bleh. Yeah his matches are good and yeah his promos are good, but besides that he is very boring.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Can you be more specific? I'm actually curious.

    ReplyDelete
  44. So we're just ignoring the fact that people were giving Jericho some of the best reactions of the night outside of Punk, Bryan, and Orton?

    Got it.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Liked the crowd, liked the finish, didn't like the actual action too much. Mind you, I still think it was a very good match, but like their WrestleMania match, it didn't do too much for me despite how good it was.

    ReplyDelete
  46. You honestly think that Jericho has been getting more of a reaction than Cena?

    ReplyDelete
  47. THREADJACK: I just received the WARGAMES blu ray in the mail from the 40% off say on wwe.com. What's the best wargames matches to watch first?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Worst_in_the_WorldJuly 17, 2013 at 3:46 PM

Man, I really am not looking forward to the Bellas being added to the Bryan/Cena mix. Are there two more unlikeable characters on the roster than the Bellas? Yeah they're hot, but they've spent years wasting TV time making fun of "fat" divas, providing boring insufferable interviews & commentary, cheating to win in THE SAME FUCKING WAY EVERYTIME, and having bad matches.

I do wonder how WWE is gonna go about linking two heels— not entertaining heels mind you, but heels with 100% go-away heat from the audience— with their two main faces without it diluting the face's popularity. I mean, they'd have to completely revamp how they present the Bellas, but it doesn't seem like that's what they're doing. You know, because the whole "loser L sign" thing is so incredibly over.

    ReplyDelete
  49. At some point, Jericho needs to actually WIN A MATCH for his coming and going to mean anything...

    ReplyDelete
  50. The one rated dud. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  51. I´d say 1989..!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I would be down with a Bryan vs. Jericho feud whenever he returns.

What do you do with Big Show at this point? Another heel run just sounds boring

    ReplyDelete
  53. Shield jobbing to the Usos at Summerslam?
Shield jobbing to the Usos at Summerslam.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Well, on the pre-show anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  55. It's not "group think" because everyone is downvoting him?

    Well, alright then.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Chris Jericho is even more boring than Lance Storm. Technically proficient, talks with good cadence, yet I cannot find any reason to care aboot him.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Protip: Downvote, logout, then upvote as guest.

  58. From anyone over 12, yes...

A guy I don't want to leave is leaving and a guy I wish would go away is coming back. Good times.

I'm starving and all I want is a Mars bar. That's where my head's at right now.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Positive reactions.

The four I mentioned don't get "Let's go Jericho/Orton/Bryan/Punk, Jericho/Orton/Bryan/Punk SUCKS!" chants or just get flat out booed by the audience.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Sting's Squadron vs. the Dangerous Alliance

    ReplyDelete
  63. Better on Youtube than Smackdown again.

    ReplyDelete
  64. They get mixed reactions all the time actually. Especially when going against Cena.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Thanks for responding.

    ReplyDelete
  66. No they don't. And none of those guys faced Cena when they completely face outside of Punk, and the fans were totally in Punk's corner.

You might need the miracle ear.

    ReplyDelete
  67. They're downvoting both, are you blind?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Most of the audience is 34+ year old males. So you're right, they probably don't.

    ReplyDelete
  69. The first one. If you can't get hooked on the concept watching the first one just forget about it.

    ReplyDelete
  70. And how. The brutality is just so...brutal? Yeah, sure.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Cool, another over-hyped Jericho return this winter!

Add me in the camp of "trolls" who doesn't care for him.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Stephanie is MUCH worse

    ReplyDelete
  73. I also think he's clumsy looking in the ring. Even his running the ropes looks awkward. Idk, I stopped enjoying the Jericho character years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  74. The first one and Stings Squadron v. dangerous alliance from WrestleWar 92. After that its all downhill

    ReplyDelete
  75. The Real World is Faker than Wrestling.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I used to really like Jericho when he was cruiserweight champ in WCW. At this point though, in 2013, I don't see any appeal at all. His mannerisms are babyish and stupid. The light bright jacket is asinine. The bulldog isn't even a bulldog. His finish is a boston crab. He's just boring. COME ON BAY BAY!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  77. I'm not super-thrilled with Jericho myself. I think he's okay at best.

    ReplyDelete
  78. The only times Jericho has genuinely made me sit up and take notice of him are the LMS match with HHH and the '08 feud with Michaels. Otherwise, he's arguably the most overrated wrestler of his era.

    ReplyDelete
  79. He is still good in the ring but his character blows. Seriously, did people actually like the "CM Drunk" feud and the "Cryback" insults. How bout that that "never, ever" crap?

    ReplyDelete
  80. He's a solid worker with one solid (08 Heel)run.

His stuff with Punk was embarassing. If I didn't see him for a couple of years it wouodn't bother me.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Oh yeah, "never. ever" alone made me want to change the channel. To say nothing of that ridiculous goatee he sported for much of the decade...

    ReplyDelete
  82. Following on from the ECW dvd, a WCW Unreleased series seems the logical next step. There's still a TON of good WCW matches that have never seen a proper dvd release.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Aside from the fact he won what, 3 matches the whole time?

    ReplyDelete
  84. Damn, and imagine if they had kept the Shield undefeated until the Wyatt Family debuted. Wyatts debuts by murdering the Shield, set up a Summerslam match, and the Shield's first loss is to the Wyatts. Instant credibility for the new group, Shield is turned face, and you have a hot stable feud to run through the fall.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Reminds me of Foley. HHH beat him, and cemented himself as a tip top guy. Orton beat him and became a star. Edge beat him and it was fine. Everyone since...(reaches for remote)

    ReplyDelete
  86. This. Although the closest thing to a Y2J run I enjoyed was his initial babyface run circa 2000 (not saying it was his best work, but it was the only time I ever really cared for him).

    ReplyDelete
  87. Sure, it's arguable, in that it can't be proven wrong.

    But it's wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Well, we;re not talking about cut-and-dried mathematical equations here, so of course it can't be PROVEN either way.

But when one takes the claims the IWC typically makes about Jericho and sets it against the reality, a pretty tight case can be made:

Mostly I'm talking about Jericho between 1999 and 2007 here. Once he
toned it down he became a lot easier to watch, and I actually thought
his recent couple of runs were decent. But between 99 and '07?

Great worker? Sometimes, but on the whole I think he was pretty erratic. Predictable offense, sometimes very sloppy, often called spots visibly or audibly on camera.

Great talker? Personally I just found him annoying. The sort of over-the-top screeching, look at me!!!! delivery which plays more like a parody of a wrestling promo than the real thing. Far too reliant on childish insults.

Charismatic? Yeah, up to a point. But look at all the bells and whistles required to get him to that point. The teased up hair, the sparkling jackets, the lavishly produced entrance video and tune. Compare that to a Rock or Austin who just oozed charisma regardless of what they were wearing or what they came out to.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I agree on the promos. Jericho is charismatic and can work the crowd with a comedic style ... it's just that most of his jokes sound like they were written by a 13-year-old. ("Cry-back! Cry-back!")

    ReplyDelete
  90. Who cares about wins and losses? It's a work. The performance is all that matters.

    ReplyDelete
  91. 1992 or the second one from 1987.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Man, you guys are way too wrapped up in wins and losses. I wish he'd win more too, but it doesn't hurt him. The fans know what a great performer he is, so they react and they watch.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Their matches at Mania and Extreme Rules and Payback were embarrassing?

    ReplyDelete
  94. Personally I thought the matches were fine, the storyline just never really gelled.

    ReplyDelete
  95. And at SOME POINT, that shtick loses its appeal. I'm a huge Jericho mark and even I don't care to watch him anymore. He's gonna lose in the end so why bother? Even if I were a kid and didn't know any better I'd feel the same.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I just don't get that. How does whether he wins or loses affect his performance? Isn't the performance why we watch?

    ReplyDelete
  97. To a certain extent.

However, knowing he will never win a match of significance makes a great performance meaningless.

Let's say, you're an MMA fan. You love, let's say, BJ Penn. He's achieved a ton of greatness in his career and can still put on a good show. You know he isn't gonna win anything anymore, though, so what's the point?

Not the best analogy, but you get where I'm going..

    ReplyDelete
  98. I definitely get your point, and I respect that view, but I disagree when it comes to pro wrestling. Winning the match isn't the end game in wrestling, obviously. I watch wrestling to be entertained by the performances. Curt Hennig never won a world title, but he's one of my favorite all-time wrestlers. I knew (for most of his career) that Rey Mysterio was never winning any world title matches he received, but it didn't diminish from his greatness, for me.

I totally get where you're coming from. I felt that way about Jericho years ago, when he was the most over guy on the roster but still lost most or all of his feuds. But at this point, with a limited schedule, I think he's just doing what he thinks is best for the new guys.
