DC Comics Action Figures

---------- Forwarded message ----------

Hey Scott, I know there's a ton of other comics fans on your blog. Every year, Mattel does a subscription service for DC figures - one figure a month, with the first three for 2014 scheduled to be 90s harpoon-hand Aquaman, Superboy Conner Kent, and Ice, with a Doomsday subscription-exclusive figure. Since the sub needs a certain number of subscribers to go through each year and is only available on the barely-advertised MattyCollector.com site, I was wondering if you could let everyone who reads your blog know about it. Subscription period ends August 19th.

More information is available in this flyer: http://24.media.tumblr.com/9dc8667d4b9bbeead41944ded2156208/tumblr_mqiyy89IBl1rh91t7o1_1280.jpg

Thanks!

Joel

  1. Don't believe the lies Mattel is spewing here folks. They do this EVERY FUCKING YEAR. Threatening to kill the sub program if people don't buy 5-10 subs PLUS 5-10 pf the side subs where they stick more characters people want outside the main sub to make more money off of people.

Fuck, I've seen this shit first hand with the He-Man line. Every year they threaten to kill it if they don't get enough subscriptions to pay off the hookers and blow tab Scott Neitlich (aka Toy Guru) keeps running up each year at ComiCon.

Of course, the REAL farce aspect of this, is that for as badly as Mattel runs their sub lines, they still fucking do a better job than Hasbro does with theirs, by way of their asshole proxies who run their fan clubs for Transformers and GI Joe. At Mattel gets their shit out on time and does stuff to balance out their catering to scalpers. Hasbro and the fan club assholes don't give a flying fuck about casual fans and only care about fucking scalpers and overcharging even MORESO than Mattel does for their figures ON TOP OF FUCKING FORCING PEOPLE TO BUY FAN CLUB SUBSCRIPTIONS JUST FOR THE RIGHT TO SUBSCRIBE TO THE SUBS.......

  2. I really wasn't expecting a Jesse Baker rant when I opened the comments on this thread. What a pleasant surprise.

As much as I would happily buy a random figure every now and then, I don't have the disposable income to throw in for these subscription services. I miss the days when I could go to a toy store and search out a figure I liked. Now, if I happen upon a Toys R Us, it just depresses me with how bad the selection is.

  3. Hate to agree with Jessie Baker, but he's right this time.

  6. He's really not. I don't know Scott personally, but I know some of his good friends really well and they've all said the same thing. Mattel really doesn't want to do the collector thing, so they set certain financial goals to make it feasible. Scott's in the uncomfortable position of having to sell those goals. He doesn't necessarily agree with them, but he's not the one calling the shots. There wouldn't even be a new He-Man line without him.

  7. Scott Neitlich is a lying sack of shit who has been caught spewing so many lies by fans of both lines (DC and MOTUC), that you can't believe a single word out of his mouth.

Only the most braindead of suck-ups (like the ass kissers at He-Man.org, who will white knight everything Mattel does with the line after flat out being told they either do that or be sued for the domain name) believes that lying sack of shit.

  8. ...so you won't be subscribing then?

Clearly you are passionate about this, although if you aren't going to be subscribing, why are you here? Was it just to grace us with your profanity laced tirade and up-your-nose profile pic? Oh I get it, you're doing people a favor by telling them toy sales go directly towards Toyguru's coke and sex addictions, is that right? If you're not signing up, this is a non-issue, you can move on with your life and devote your rage back to wrestling discussions. Or are you proposing to tell other people how to spend their money?

Sign up or don't, but calm down and take a deep breath. Mattel does not threaten to kill the sub program if people don't buy 5 subs. Like it or not, the sub program has worked the same for years and fans know what to expect by now-- blind buying 2/3 of a sub, forcing down TG's dismissive and/or contradictory answers and putting up with DR's slow and expensive shipping, all to further their own DC or MOTU collections. Would I prefer the sub worked differently? Sure. Will it? No. Some can get past those issues, some cannot, therefore some people sign up and some people don't. I'm pretty sure the point of the post was to bring awareness to the sub in case people reading here were unaware of it and perhaps get a few subscribers. Let people make up their own minds.
