More Notes on Last Week's WWE Tryout Camp

The camp featured 30 guys, with Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards the two standouts. According to Dave Meltzer, he was given the impression that both men would be signed to developmental deals. However, that is not official and it wouldn't happen for at least a few more months if it did as both guys have to finish their commitments to RoH and Edwards has an upcoming tour with Pro Wrestling NOAH, not to mention that they would both need to pass their physical exams. Other independent wrestlers in the camp included Joey Ryan, Todd Hanson, Sean Burke, and Tony DelFonzo.

Good, right on time for there to be another dispute when he's most likely THEIR WORLD CHAMPION.

  2. Apparently some people desperately need writers.

  3. The lesson there is when your employer makes a reasonable request like put some effort in at the gym, do as you're fucking told.

  4. EVERYTHING IS FINE!

  5. I thought joey Ryan had some potential when he first popped up in TNA but now I kind of think he sucks.

  6. Because nothing WWE loves more then making sure everyone looks like they stepped off the pages of GQ. Not everyone needs to look the same, a little diversity in the wrestlers would go a long way.

  7. Except recent photos of Ohno showed that he looked terrible.

  8. I only seen him on the NXT episodes he's been on and he didn't look that bad. As long as he can wrestle, why does he need to look like a WBF reject? I miss the days of guys all having different looks. Bring back the classic gimmicks of the 80s!!! Kamala, Boss Man, Koko B Ware, Sam Houston, Outback Jack, Killer Khan, Sika, One Man Gang, Ken Patera, Hercules, Adrian Adonis, etc. The current product seems to be passing me by, back to Wrestlemania III with me. :-)

  9. I haven't seen recent photos of him, but he has a lot of charisma when in the right role. Just put him in a shirt and pants like The Shield. Plus, I don't entirely believe this is just WWE telling him to go to the gym more and him blowing it off. There has to be more to that story.

  10. He was awesome on promos in PWG. He was never the best wrestler, but I don't know what happened in TNA.

  11. Wow, that promo last week was actually written by AJ? Very impressive. Such an awesome segment— AJ totally towed the perfect line between work & shoot, came off as a total bad-ass, put over the championship, and popped the fans while doing it. Great, fun promo.

Oh, wait...we're talking about AJ STYLES? Oh. Scratch that then.

    What a shitty fucking promo.

  12. I thought he had a pretty crappy look even in ROH. Good wrestler, but guys wrestling in a T-shirt is almost always a bad look.

And I get what people are saying about diversity and how you shouldn't have to look a certain way to succeed.

But WWE sets the rules. If you're going to work for them, you have to follow their rules. It may be ridiculous, it may be unfair - but if you're trying to land a job from developmental you don't really have the clout to not follow their instructions. I think it's ridiculous that many businesses require people to wear a suit to work. But if you want to work for that company, then guess what? You're wearing a suit.

  13. It does seem like WWE is hopefully moving away from this way of thinking though. With Punk and Bryan as the top faces and the push of Wyatt. It looks like they are trying to mix up the looks a little bit at least. I do think though it's not so much Ohno looks a little pudgy but the fact he was asked to use the gym more and the guy never even bothered to try. I think the WWE likes to see guys put in the effort and really want it.

  14. They asked him to come to the gym and get some work in. He refused. It's not like they asked him to become Batista.

  15. I'm more of the line of thinking they wanted him to improve his conditioning and through the magic of the Internet and its 'Purple Monkey Dishwasher' rumour mill it somehow became 'get jacked'. He doesn't have the unique look of a Brodus Clay, so his ass better be ready to go.

  16. You know who looks like he belongs on the cover of GQ? Daniel Bryan.

    Oh wait...

  17. Jesus styles got zero buzz from that promo. I didn't even know about it until now.

    ReplyDelete
  18. He is horrendous in the ring.

  19. Goatface Quarterly? You bet.

  20. I'm going to paraphrase something from the Punk/Joe shoot from years ago...

Wrestling in the 80s had guys of all shapes and sizes. Bundy, Roberts, Rude, Bravo... all looked different. When you only have a guy like Cena and Batista then someone like Masters doesn't stand out as "the muscle guy" like a Ted Arcidi or Hercules Hernandez did in their generation. I think when everyone looks the same you take the chance of boring people. Maybe that's why a Daniel Bryan or C.M. Punk get over so well.

  21. The problem with him is that he's known for working with Cesaro, and to say there's a minor difference between their work ethic...
