> Just like you predicted...Stone Cold #1 during Rock/Mankind. Can't argue with many of these choices.

Nope.  I knew Dolph and Brock would be up there too.  The Brock one was amazing, with grown men screaming like tweener girls at a Bieber concert.   Hell of a list.

Comments

  1. That Louisville, Kentucky crowd for Backlash when Undertaker returned was insane all night. Great crowd.

  2. #1, while I don't question it, has the disadvantage of having crappy 1999 sound quality. The crowd LOOKED like it went crazy, but I couldn't tell. I still smile at Jericho's entrance. When JERICHO splashes on the tron, it still looks and sounds awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I don't question its inclusion, since it definitely was a huge pop, but I always hated how Jericho reacted like a teenage girl who just met her favorite boy band when Cena comes out. I know it was a big surprise at the time, but man.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Yes! Such a great compilation. They should put it on a DVD as an extra. All the times I've watched it, I never noticed Austin throwing his hat at Vince. Great little extra, like Brock kicking Cena's hat.

    ReplyDelete
  5. It sucks to keep beating a dead horse, but Ziggler's pop was SO wasted by the "(no) brain trust" up in Stamford.

Granted, Ziggler doesn't likely get that pop anywhere else, in any other era... but damnit, run with what you have. Give him a several month WHC reign, let Big E (+/- AJ, she can go either way) cost him the belt, then let those two feud.

But no, they're too busy telling their stories, 90% of which are shit from the start.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Cena got a bigger pop at Royal Rumble 2008 at MSG than he did at the 2005 draft. That was a throw in.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I love how "Jericho" appears on the screen, there's a brief moment where everyone lets it sink in, and then the place erupts just as the word is scrolling back off.

You can just hear the gears going, it's like the audience is thinking, "Jericho? OMG, JERICHO!"

    ReplyDelete
  8. Also no WM3 reaction to Steamboat win over Savage?! Come on.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Yeah. I realized nobody popped for Jericho's music because nobody knew it was Jericho's music yet. We'd been seeing this countdown for weeks and and weeks and it finally paid off. I feel like this is how they apologized for the anti-climactic Gobbledy Gooker.

    ReplyDelete
  10. The Jericho thing is by far the best debut the WWE has ever done. Heck, anything from any wrestling company. Nothing compares to it.

    ReplyDelete
  11. A buddy of mine had a spare ticket 8 rows from the ring. I didn't go because I didn't want to miss school the next day. It's one of the biggest regrets of my life.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Warrior beating Honky Tonk Man at Summerslam 88. The roof goes off when he gets the pin.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Demolition defeating Andre and Haku at WrestleMania VI got a huge pop

    ReplyDelete
  14. Bad list, from an order standpoint anyway. Jericho's pop doesn't even deserve to be here. I mean, his pop at the Rumble this year was louder.

HHH's pop should be in the first or second position. What's funny is that we love to go on about how much WWE overrates him or whatever, but on most of these lists, he's ranked too low. Maybe one of the WWE.com writers is a closet HHHater?

    ReplyDelete
  15. You lost me at "Jericho's pop doesn't deserve to be here" =)

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hogan/Rock WM 18? Made a stadium show sound like an arena show.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Ah, for the days when the title would actually change hands on RAW, instead of merely placed in abeyance.

    ReplyDelete
  18. The fact that they didn't include anything from the Canadian Stampede show in '97 is an absolute disgrace. One of the most molten crowds North American wrestling has ever seen.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Watching these highlights give me chillbumps. Such great moments and memories. I usually don't like the lists that WWE.com puts out, but this one was excellent.

    ReplyDelete
  20. To this day, two of my favorite title wins are Foley's win over the Rock, and Eddie's win over Lesnar. I'm actually shocked the later didn't make it on the list.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Haha, you at least sound like you are a very responsible student.

I wish I could downvote you 1,004 times. Jericho's debut belongs and belongs high.

    IT'S STILL REAL TO HIM!

    I'M MARKING OUT, BRO

    ReplyDelete
  25. Have you ever seen any objective list where everyone said "This list is perfect! No need to adjust or change anything!"

    ReplyDelete
  26. We do not quote Matt Striker on The Blog of Doom.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The top 10 could have been all Stone Cold, really.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The pop doesn't make the man. The man makes the pop.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The top 10 could have all been JR reacting to Stone Cold.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Next WWE list: 20 most silent WWE moments. Number 20: some random Steve Blackman entrance

    ReplyDelete
  31. Punk in Chicago at MITB may have been the loudest sustained roar I've ever heard from any crowd. I can understand maybe not getting the top spot, but all the way down at #10 is utter bullshit.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Gotta thank Vinnie Ru. He came up with the countdown and then the rock interuption. He wanted Jericho a star the moment he arrived. Politics prevented that (HHH) once russo left a month later. Actually, the ships he left originally had jericho beating rock on raw--it was changed with Russo's departure.

    WEMBLEY STADIUM! YEAH!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Finally, a list with some Brawl for All highlights.

    ReplyDelete
  35. It was simply to get Cena a Top 5 entry and try to put him on the same level as the Rock and Stone Cold in terms of fan reaction...

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ziggler's pop came a day late. That could have been his Wrestlemania moment. The crowd at MetLife was chanting for Ziggler and ready for a cash-in. Still a great moment.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hey, that was the only time in Bart Gunn's life that he ever got any heat!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Plus his pose just worked perfectly. Nobody had done something like that before. Probably my favorite moment of the Monday Night Wars because WWF had made an instant star of someone who was buried in WCW.

    ReplyDelete
  39. So who'd be at the top of a Top 10 Heel Reactions from a crowd?

Hogan turning with Hall and Nash in '96 would have to be at the top, right?

Brock's titantron video staring down a clearly worried Cena at 3:00 was a great touch. First time I noticed that.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm sure Paul Heyman turning on RVD when Big Show won the ECW title deserves a mention somewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm guessing you meant Judgement Day if you are talking about the UT return during the Iron Man Match.
I think they should have shown the clip from the point the video tease started as the match was winding down (great-fun match BTW despite Shawn's shorts)-
The way the video started, there was a buzz, then a moment of almost silence before the explosion when people realized who it was.... it was almost like a bomb, where there is the second of silence before the explosion.

    ReplyDelete
  43. It's still real to me damn it!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm guessing they just did the best they could because having to edit around the licensed music would have edited out the pop as well...

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yeah... "highlights."

    ReplyDelete
  46. I forget which WCW even it was, maybe a Clash of the Champions... but Rick Rude just had the crowd in a FIT!

    ReplyDelete
  47. "Who's your daddy, Montreal?"

    ReplyDelete
  48. Austin running in during Rock/Foley is undoubtedly #1.

    ReplyDelete
  49. SuperBrawl II in Milwaukee

    Either that or this:

  51. The crowd wasn't silent at all for that. There was an audible "You tapped out" chant, mixed with some cheers.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Listen to the crowd reaction in the video. Or watch the entire debut separately. The pop isn't nearly loud enough to warrant a place on this list.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Not the second time at Extreme Rules. That was pretty silent.

    ReplyDelete
  54. It was a great moment, but the crowd wasn't especially raucous.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Huh. No Canadian Stampede in there?

    ReplyDelete
  56. You are right, mixed them up. Backlash was in DC that year.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Same deal with Swagger at Wrestlemania 26. He looked like such a doofus for not cashing in on Jericho after he was speared through the table by Edge.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'm surprised there wasn't a "holy shit" pop from something insane from one of the early tag team ladder or TLC matches.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Man, thought for sure that'd be in, the sheer joy of the crowd seeing HTM FINALLY lose the belt was huge.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hell, I long for the days when belts were defended on TV period.
Why do they never put the midcard belts at stake on TV anymore?
Dean Ambrose has had his US title for five months and in that timespan, he has defended the belt a whopping two times and both of those times were at PPVs. Even Gillberg defended his belt more often than that.
A guy defending his belt against somebody who wasn't doing anything at the moment used to be a staple of WWE TV and it also did a pretty good job of building up that person's title reign, it certainly did a much better job than having that person lose non-title matches for no reason whatsoever.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Really surprised the hulk up from x8 wasnt on there. Talk about a crowd losing their shit.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I don't know, man. The debut of Tensai was pretty bitchin'.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I don't know how I forgot Tensai. The moment that mask came off and the crowd chanted "ALBERT" as one solid unit...;)

    ReplyDelete
  64. Usually they aren't as big because they take the crowd off guard and the is more of an "Ooooooh" reaction than flat out screaming. Foley's HIAC fall is not nearly as loud as you'd think

    ReplyDelete
  65. Jerry Lawler showing up in ECW.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Agreed. More like #2.

    ReplyDelete
  67. The should do a "Top 20 Reactions you weren't supposed to have"
