Match of the Day: 23rd Anniversary of Battle Kat's WWE debut

This has it all!  Brady Boone in a stupid gimmick!  Jobber extraordinaire BOB BRADLEY!  Gorilla Monsoon shilling Hulk Hogan's vitamins!  Actual vitamins, not just the metaphorical ones.

Fun fact:  Boone got shitcanned and they wanted to keep this retarded gimmick for some reason, so it went to... Bob Bradley.  For like two weeks and then they really did cut it loose for real.  And now you know.

  1. Heenan: Well, we know it's not Boss Man's mom.
Gorilla: What's not Boss Man's mom?
Heenan: Battle Kat, 'cause she'd be wrestling as Battle Swine.

God, these two were the best.

  2. Poor Boone. He was a really good worker but just way too small for his era. He actually ended up becoming a ref in WCW before dying in a car crash about 15 years ago. He was another wrestler from the Minnesota area.

  3. God, that handspring elbow from Bradley was Chyna-level bad.

  4. Loved the TNA practice going on here, as they cut to Mooney a mere 1.5 seconds after Battle Kat's pin.

  5. The $64,000 question: Which was worse? Battle Kat, or the Ding Dongs?

  6. I love how Monsoon in a completely throwaway match still critiques Battle Kats nonchalant cover.

  7. RIP Dean Peters, love how RVD still uses his moves to pay homage to him

  8. If you met him in a dark alley it would be kinda hard to miss him with his bright-ass colored tights.

  9. They'll have edited it due to music issues.

  10. Ding Dongs by a large margin.

  11. You know it's bad when the jobber is more cut than the guy he's putting over.

  12. SHUT UP MOONEY!

  13. Ironically he was replaced as ref in WCW by another jobber named Boone....who also died in a car wreck a few years later.

  14. LEAVE THE MEMORIES ALONE!

  15. Glad I was never a former WCW jobber turned referee named Boone.

  16. I went to a show at the meadowlands around this time that was supposed to have a main event with rick rude. He quit legit and they actually said over the pa that president jack Tunney had permanently suspended rude for comments made about the big boss man's mother. How STUPID does that sound? Lol

  17. monsoon must have had ocd about those nonchalant covers. Several times I've watched very high profile matches (even Bret title matches), and Monsoon gets fucking caught up in a hard-press instead of a leg hook.

  18. He had a point, though. Why not hook the leg? In Bret matches it stood out even more, since here you had a guy who was the "excellence of execution" and an A+ technical wrestler, yet he wasn't even doing something as basic as hooking the leg on pin attempts.

  19. Battle Kat the inspiration behind RVD... and his many rolls.

  20. I have a vivid childhood memory of being inside a drug store and seeing a mentally retarded teenager, who also had gigantism because he was about 6'6" and weighed well over 300 pounds, screaming for Hulk Hogan vitamins. Literally the entire store could hear this mongoloid crying from the depths of his soul for a bottle of vitamins. Eventually he dropped to the ground, kicked over the display, which featured Hogan surrounded by children, and proceeded to shit himself. His mother, or whoever he was with, lit up a cigarette inside the store. Sadly, that's when my mother got her prescription and we darted out of there.

That's my one and only memory of Hulk Hogan brand vitamins, and what a memory it is. His slanted, drooling mouth screaming with a southern drawl and lazy tongue still clouds my nightmares.

    "I WANT HULK HOGAN VITAMINS!"

  21. Even in a throw away jobber match on Challenge, they were hilarious.

  22. They should have brought Bob Bradley back for Triple H to ride during his WM29 entrance, or his Gonad the Barbarian one years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Nah it inspired him to smoke funny things like the bookers who came up with the character.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'll get "whooshed" for this, but it was some generic WWF-produced song, not that those are immune from the music clearance monster.

  25. Good, I thought I had imagined that part about Bob Bradley taking over the KAT~! gimmick briefly.
