Mr Perfect vs Shawn Michaels At Stars & Stripes Forever 91

So, I know everybody shits on their Summerslam match, but this is a great little TV match as Shawn and Curt try to out-sell each other. It drags a little in the middle, but two ridiculous Shawn bumps and a pretty great ending sequence (if not a great ending) make it well worth watching... and it makes it all the weirder that their Summerslam match wasn't better.

Well, to be fair, everyone shits on their Summerslam match because the WWF themselves basically did everything short of literally going on TV and promising a ***** match and it was only **1/2 or so.  But yeah, I've seen this match and it was damn good, and they had one on Coliseum Video somewhere that was damn good as well, and to this day I can't understand why they didn't click.

  1. Still kind of annoys me that the Bossman-Perfect match at WM7 didn't have a clean finish.

  2. I love Shawn's little trip of Mr. Perfect after Bossman ran in...

  3. This was my submission, and that Shawn plancha (or quedabra, or tope con hilo, or whatever it's called) gives me goosebumps every time. It's amazing it took him another seven years to seriously injure himself. Of course, his bump on the rail a minute later is also terrifying in more of a visceral way...

  4. Eddie & Rey didn't click at WM21 b/c of Rey's mask...it kept getting loose and sliding around on his head, almost coming off, etc. and so he was distracted the whole time by it.

  5. Yeah, never understood that either but I guess the end game was probably always to have Bossman take out Rude and they wanted a face victory so he could get his retribution against Heenan. In retrospect, since Bossman was basically two feuds away from being out of the WWF (Mountie and Nailz), they might have well just give Perfect the clean win and move on.

    Good match, terrible ending though.

  6. You know, Axel does have his dad's face. They should make him shave that ridiculous beard of his though, and do something with his hair.

Well, Rey and Eddie might've clicked if Rey had a mask that actually fit him; what a bad time to experiment. He was touching his face more than Joey when he was working opposite a spitting Gary Oldman.

  8. Yeah after all that hype why only give them 11 minutes?

  9. Never seen this before. Loved it. Glad the op sent this in.

  10. If they'd clicked like this in '93 it would have pushed that show into the top ten Summerslams.
