Interview with Zach Gowen

Had a great talk with Zach about his career, the changes he's made, and the lives he's touched. Had he emerged ten years later, you know the current charity-draping WWE would have pushed this way harder than they did in 2003, and that says something.

Glad he's doing better because it seemed like he was going down a pretty bad path there for a while.

  2. "you know the current charity-draping WWE would have pushed this way harder than they did in 2003"

He was pushed into a main event angle with Hulk Hogan and Vince McMahon, I don't see how anyone could have been pushed any hard.

If anything, that was the problem. He could have been a solid mid-card act, especially in 2003 when they were still doing the Cruiserweight thing.

  3. He got to beat Matt Hardy multiple times too, haha.

  4. ARRRRGH THE BARBARIANApril 21, 2014 at 11:24 AM

Yet another chapter in "How did Johnny Ace keep his job for so long?"

    ReplyDelete
  5. Could someone explain that story to me?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Nice of the Network to air Spring Stampede '98 aka the greatest Tony And Bobby Meltdown Of All Time. For those of you who have never seen it, it happens right before the Hogan & Nash vs. Piper & Giant match and it is glorious.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Yeah you may be right on that. I will double check with Kevin when I get a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Did Vince McMahon blade in his match against Gowen, or was that an accident that led to a hard cut? I never knew at the time. That was a brutal cut McMahon took in that match, and I've always wondered.

    ReplyDelete
  9. So with Batista possibly taking time off after Extreme Rules, what does that mean for the Shield/Evolution feud? Maybe someone will be recruited to take Batista's place to keep the program going.

    ReplyDelete
  10. A part of me thinks they audibles once they knew Taker was losing. No way they have Taker AND Cena lose at WM

    ReplyDelete
  11. Him staying in the cruiser division would have been fine.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Looked hardway, especially considering it came from the top of his head.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Seriously we all mock Johnny but he was just following what Vince said. It's not surprising that it took Vince to go away from it that the entire developmental system was overhauled for the better. McMahon can still contribute to the product but he just needs to step back for good.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I started watching summerslam 97 last night before I went to bed. Foley dominated that cage match. That's a very dominant win for the blow off-by mick!

    ReplyDelete
  15. What ever happened to Christine Todd Whitman?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I've been checking out old WCW PPVS for the novelty of it all. Say what you will about the quality of some of the zany matches, the crowd certainly seemed into most of them. Especially Leno vs. Hogan

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yeah, needs to turn into a running joke.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Wow..the Warrior docu is as good as everyone said..its even getting me a little bit choked up and I was not expecting that. Vince actually showing emotion, all the behind the scenes stuff it was good. Also the take away I got was like him, dislike him you have to say if you loved what you do for a living this is a hell of a fortunately way to go out. Not that he should not have lived longer but getting to experience this weekend was a great thing before leaving.

    ReplyDelete
  19. If you think Lita is in the same league as prime Trish in hotness, then you are beyond delusional and bordering on retarded.

    ReplyDelete
  20. LOL "I disagree with your opinion on a subjective matter so I am going to personally insult you!" way to internet buddy.

    ReplyDelete
  21. It was both, sort of. Vince had the blade ready when Zach kicks the chair into his head. But the chair is hit too hard and the blade just goes into his forehead.

You dont bleed like that from the forehead hardway.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I did note, "and that says something" when I sent the link to Scott. Point is, I agree they pushed super hard in 2003, but nowadays, with Susan G Komen and all the charity work they do that they shove hard at the audience, it'd be an even harder push. Hence my point.

    ReplyDelete
  23. watch Survivor Series four months later, the Buried Alive match. Vince hits an absolute gusher there. I think when he blades, he just goes all in and gouges a wound, rather than just cut normally.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well you're allowed to voice your opinion just the same as I'm allowed to tell you that it's a stupid one.

    ReplyDelete
  25. It's good to see he's back on his feet, a lot of guys don't have a leg to stand on when they get out of the business.

    ReplyDelete
  26. And therefore show your poor social skill, ability to make a case, and likely lack of education.

    ReplyDelete
  27. And yet you're still wrong, so... congratulations.

    ReplyDelete
  28. You really don't understand the word "subjective" do you? The case for you having no education is mounting.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I know what subjecting means.

Trish being hotter than that red-headed whore is a fact, however.

    ReplyDelete
  30. These old ECW shows are fun. Damn, Dory Funk even had smooth *chairshots*.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Holy shit, if that's the truth, that sounds painful as hell.

    ReplyDelete
  32. When I've been VERY drunk, it's affected me in that I get too lazy to use the backspace key, but it's not ererevyr wrdrord tyyppde lall cyrazay

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yeah, I remember hearing about him going down the "I wasn't used right- I hate all these fucks!" cocky attitude road. Good to see he's normalized a bit. I guess it makes sense to have a weird attitude when you get your dream job that early and then lose it within a year.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sorry, but between his physique and his voice, the fact that he had one leg wasn't the least intimidating thing about him.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think they're going to squeeze one more match out of Taker at WM31. An official "retirement match" where he can go out with a win.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I watched Halloween Havoc 1993 this past weekend. Man, that Vader-Cactus Jack Texas Death Match was glorious. Too bad about the crappy finish, but still, one hell of a fight.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hmmm, who's going to do the job? Taker at WM has run its course. Anyone that loses to him after this year will look incredibly weak in losing to a guy that can no longer go.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Medusa /Alundra Blaze had a really fun match here at Summerslam 94.

    ReplyDelete
  39. He was fine for a quick program but he didn't have the legs for a long run.

    ReplyDelete
  40. This show is super hot till you get to the Tatanka/Luger JJ/Mable part

    ReplyDelete
  41. Without the Network, still searching random Puroresu stuff. Hulk vs. Muta sounds like it will be weird.

For anybody into him, Plinket has a new review up of Titanic. Pretty damn good. Oh and if you haven't yet, I implore you to at least watch his review of Star Wars Episode I. It's loooong, but really good.

  43. Magoonie NOT Teddy BelmontApril 21, 2014 at 3:53 PM

Not sure if I've seen that match, gonna try it, thanks for the recommendation.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh jeeze, hard to imagine, but Daniel Bryan's going to perform tonight, in spite of this:

    ReplyDelete
  45. I get the feeling it's going to be Rusev, just because I can feel that they're going to use the absolute most boring option possible.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Finished up as NJ governor in 2001; ran the EPA in the W. administration from 2001 to 2003. Wrote a book (2?) criticizing that administration and working toward some kind of less-divisive republican party as well as a being lobbyist or something.

    ReplyDelete
  47. He couldn't be pushed any harder.

    ReplyDelete
  48. If WWE ever wanted to try the handicap wrestler thing again they should look no further than "Handicap Hero" Gregory Irons. I had the pleasure of seeing this guy work a few weeks again and he is a damn a hard worker and was a part of a really fun 8 man tag match.

    ReplyDelete

Just got my tix for Battleground! Pretty good seats too for the price.

    ReplyDelete
  50. The one time WWE went hardcore in stealing someone away from TNA *shakes head*

    ReplyDelete
  51. The Owen Bret Cage match is great but needed to be a little less cage match and a little more wrestling. I think the Mania match is better because of this.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'm guessing they will be mentioning this since they put it up on the website the way they did.

    ReplyDelete
  53. WWE 1994 just didn't know how to end a F'N ppv. KOTR was fine till the ended with the terrible Piper/Lawler match Summerslam followed a 5 star championship match with Taker/Faker

    ReplyDelete
  54. Good match with hilarious WWF bashing interview with Hogan at the end

    ReplyDelete
  55. You have a failure of your own too!

    ReplyDelete
  56. that Titanic review has been up for quite some time.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Yeah Irons is a guy who I wish would eventually be given a chance in WWE. If nothing else his backstory makes for great TV or WWE Network content.

    ReplyDelete
  58. And the NEW WWE Champion...

That's higher than "working with geezer Hulk under a mask, geezer Piper pregnant with a new litter of puppies, and Sean O'Haire, who couldn't cut live promos." He was a big part of storylines, but he could've been pushed higher AND harder (and won more than two matches).

    ReplyDelete
  59. Smart move would be Sheamus.

That said, I really like the idea of "Triple H's Army of Mid-Carders" - guys like Titus, Sandow, Fandango, etc. really aren't doing anything at the moment, may as well make them corporate suck-ups. Only guy I'd remove is Barrett, since he's doing well on his own and doesn't need to be associated with other guys so far down on the roster. Maybe Rusev, too, since he's so new (though at the same time, it makes sense for a new heel to suck-up to the boss, so whatever).

    ReplyDelete
  60. The logistics of Cena jobbing to Taker would be interesting - Cena beat Brock, Brock beat Taker, Taker beat Cena. Could lead to more Cena/Brock goodness (hopefully with Cena returning the job).
