MeekinOnMovies On....DDP Yoga: Part II ~ Don't Sweat The Small Stuff

The photos on the left of the banner are how anyone who has known me in the last...12 years has seen me. The two photos on the right are how I look after barely a month of DDP Yoga, and not stuffing my fat, cow-like mouth with shit as often I used too. Being from a film background I'm fully aware of creative camera angles and all that, but I deliberately did not suck in my gut, nor did I try and ms-represent the results.

Perhaps my body image is playing tricks on me - I feel great, but don't see much a difference, but two dozen Facebook likes from folks who had no clue I was doing this DDP Yoga thing can't be wrong, can it?

"share your secret!", "Where did the rest of Paul go and what did you do with him?", "Wow!!!! You look amazing! Congrats- I know how hard it is!" From a former "Cosby Show" writer: "WTF! NFW! Niiice...GQ ass." - The only comment I put on this photo was "One Month Later".

It's important to note I was NOT perfect with this, either. I stuffed my face full of crappy potato chips once or twice due to 'Taker streak-related stress, ate far too many fries, and probably skipped a workout or two I shouldn't have.

Before I go any further I want to re-re-re-iterate that I'm not trying to sell you anything, I'm not in the affiliate marketing program, and generally speaking I think 99 percent of anything labeled a 'miracle' is 100% bullshit.

That said, this bullshit is a miracle.

Indoctrination

The whole endeavor was spurned on by a heart-to-heart with my best friend and soon-to-be-nurse who said in no uncertain terms that if I wasn't careful I'd probably die at 45 years old and be absolutely inundated with health problems most of my adult life. We made a qausi-pact, I'd get on his ass if he drank too much, and he'd make sure I was keeping my fat ass in check

I then badgered my best friend to try it. I wanted a DDP Yoga sponsor. Someone I could bug about it, brag about it, discuss it with, someone that could share my new found...interest in physical fitness that wasn't going to beat me over the head if I skipped a particularly tricky move, or think the whole workout was lame because they were already in shape.

I shit you not, after one Diamond Dozen workout my best friend was hooked. He's about 6'3 and in pretty good shape, but after the workout he was sweating and as pumped as I was, likely because the dynamic resistance portion of the workout used his (far stronger than mine) muscles against him in a positive way.  In fact, earlier that day he had gone to the doctor for a sciatic nerve, and by midnight he was jumping around like a doofus on both legs with no pain.

For two weeks running now we've met up, done the Yoga, eaten something healthy, then done something really damn stupid to reward ourselves, like drop <rhymes with lake placid> or get really stoned and marathon movies until 8am because we're so damn energetic from the workout.

My friend is so far the only die-hard convert. I've done a workout with my sister and her boyfriend, but due to the low cielings in my house it's a little tricky to find the room to spread out and do the workout properly. Thus I've been tackling it mostly at work during my 'break' where I turn the computer room in my own personal DDP Dojo.

Thus I am still singing the praises of DDP Yoga to anyone who will listen. I've suggested it to coworkers, friends, relatives, and often I get a tepid response or a "well I need the space" kind of thing.
I don't want to sound like a know-it-all after such a short amount of time, nor do I want to seem like all my problems have been solved because I can do a Down Dog for 10 straight seconds without shaking, but it seems the hardest part of anything is starting.

Once you start, an object in motion tends to stay in motion. Even if that motion is a little stilted or sometimes stalls out briefly.

A side benefit is that if you tackle an 'Energy' workout prior to a red-hot date with a Megan Fox / Selena Gomez / Oliva Munn  / Mila Kunis looking chick, you'll have stamina for hours and hours and hours to the point where you may want to tarp off the ceiling of your car.

Caveats

I'm still on the "Energy" portion of the workout, which is a 21 minute athletic coup d'état on your body. By the halfway point you're stunned by how much you're sweating and how much you've sworn at DDP Yoga as you drive to get your leg just a little higher in the air, or finally, for real, attempt and succeed at your first real man push up...ever.

It also seems the "Energy" portion of the workout focuses on balance quite a lot - and I'm bad at that. getting me in a true runners lunge where I'm only on the heel of my back foot is an incredible disaster every time I try. A lot of the upper body stuff like push ups or holding yourself a few inches off the ground via your upper body is so hard it's embarrassing. Also toss in the fact that anything that requires me to bend or stretch my foot via my ankle is a pain as I have absolutely zero flexibility there, but I'm working on it.

Regardless of the pitfalls of a given workout, it does get a little easier every time as long as I stick with it. If I skip two days then come back it's a little harder. A day on / day off cycle seems to work the best, as you get the full day of "WOW I FEEL AWESOME" results.

But here's the strange thing - I'm not quite sold on myself yet. I feel wonderful, I stand up straighter, I'm eating mostly better, I make eye contact with hot women and don't feel like Ducky in from "Pretty in Pink", and the reaction has been pretty incredible. In fact I'm grabbing a hold of the shirt I'm wearing right now and the amount of fabric I can pull away from my body is insane.

But in my head I still have a chip on my shoulder, like all the people saying nice things to me are just doing it to be nice, and all the good things I'm feeling / noticing / experiencing are also all in my head because that's how I'm supposed to feel. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt this isn't true, but from my eyes looking outward, I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop. Some kind of bad news or dark cloud or "Oh well yeah Yoga may be good but did you know it's actually bad for penis length" or some other kind of crap that tends to happen when stumbling upon something that appears to be too good to be true.

Things like "my clothes are always baggy, my pants are always loose, so maybe I'm just noticing things that aren't there because I want to notice them" run through my head - as if I'm looking for excuses to NOT believe the very obvious results everyone is seeing. I'll cheat on the proverbial diet, get a bag of chips, and find myself instantly depressed until I realize I can just make an extra 20 minutes in my day tomorrow and the next day and get back up on the horse.

The Future Soon

When they say 90 percent of the game is half mental, they mean it. For all intents and purposes I am a far healthier person now than I was a month ago, and the results were so damn quick and apparent that my mind hasn't caught up yet. After 20 years of being fully aware of my fat-load-ness and four weeks or working to change it, and seeing how much better I feel and look and it simply doesn't quite compute.

And I guess the way to make it compute is to keep fuckin' that chicken, as they say. More veggies, less fast food, more yoga, more confidence, pushing myself to reach higher and stretch longer, and spreading the word because I simply cannot get over it.

All my life I've really, really, really, really, really hated telling people when I was on a diet, because it meant that when and if I failed on that diet they'd likely ask that demoralizing "I thought you were on a diet?" question that shatters confidence like nobodies business.

But this isn't a diet. I even have a hard time calling it a workout because it comes so naturally and the benefits are so immediate I'm half wondering if they slipped crack cocaine into the heart monitor. As time goes on I imagine the INSANE results will start to die down and it will be replaced by marginal gains over time, which is fine. The point is that of all the things I've tried, this is the one thing that's taken in a way I never expected. I've also deliberately avoided weighing myself since I started - I was hovering at 301 pounds without shoes or pants, and I'll have a new number for you this time next month.

There's also the diet element that I'm actually enjoying quite a lot. Carrots, Steamed broccoli, mixed veggies, a little hot sauce, and Almond milk have become my go-to non-special occasion snacks. At first you may find them a little meh, but after a bit - and I'm not just saying this - you'll find yourself looking forward to eating vegatables as a snack. And again, I'm not perfect. I still get Ice Coffee (with sugar) on my way to work, but go with skim milk. If I absolutely NEED that fried chippy goodness, I'll get Pop Chips, where you can down an entire bag and only be out 300-400 calories depending on the falvor.

Some of this stuff is more expensive than others, sure, but you'd be surprised how much longer a bag of baby carrots with a little A1 on them goes compared to a 99 cent bag of Sour Cream & Onion Chips or a bag of M&Ms.

I cannot stress ENOUGH to people who look like me (Kids in school have asked you more than once, to do the truffle shuffle), and have felt like me (namely hopeless), to give this a try and to KEEP trying it. It's 20 minutes a day. That's it. It's one less sojurn into the world of porno, one less cigarette break, one less episode of "Scrubs" or "Trophy Wife" and I SWEAR TO GOD by the end of your second workout you'll be hooked enough to keep at it.

But for now, try some fucking yoga:

"It's one less sojurn into the world of porno"

and by that, you mean 19.5 min of searching for the right clip followed by .5 min of enjoying the clip

  5. I've been doing ddpyoga for 7.5 months. I've lost 53 lbs (24%) so far and 8 inches off my belly. I just finished the advanced track and can see a big difference in my strength, flexibility and balance. However doing the hardest workout I have (double black diamond), I can see I still have a ways to go in all 3 of those.

    ReplyDelete
  6. This is great stuff, we can all (myself included) get so negative around here sometimes, it's great to see a post that's just 100% positive stuff.

    Keep it up man.

  7. Your_Favourite_LoserApril 8, 2014 at 4:13 PM

question: once someone starts seeing results from ddp yoga, are they obligated (in the sense of if they want to keep seeing the same results) to keep at it, or if they switch off of yoga onto more traditional exercises will the weight come crashing back (assuming all else in the lifestyle is equal)?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Mister_E_Studd_Got100ProblemsApril 8, 2014 at 4:13 PM

If you're really not sucking in then that's pretty dramatic, and you should feel good. Keep it up. Being heavy is not any easier as you get older.

    ReplyDelete
  9. That's a good question. I think the thing with DDP is that it's not so much about losing weight as it is building muscle? So like if you go for a RUN or ride on a bike or something you're burning calories, but not really building a lot of strength except in the places you're already strong - namely your legs, because you're already fat (in my case).

To be honest I like it MORE than regular working out, and it's the only workout I've ever been this enthused about. That said I'd imagine if you did it to get to a managable 'goal' weight then just ate right / walked / ran, it would stick.

    ReplyDelete
  10. FUCKING RIGHT?!

    ReplyDelete
  11. How much did you lose?

Good job man. Big difference. I'm currently eating mass quantities of kfc on my cheat day!

  12. Your_Favourite_LoserApril 8, 2014 at 4:21 PM

"To be honest I like it MORE than regular working out,"

makes sense. it's challenging, but in a less overt way, i guess? not feeling the wear and tear of running/ellipical/etc.

i lost about 25 lbs a couple of years ago walking/jogging/ellipticalling like crazy, coupled with hard core calorie/fat counting, but it all came back. and committing to get on the elliptical or treadmill feels like such a damn chore, especially since i feel like you have to do at last 35 - 40 minutes to move past the maintenance stage

    ReplyDelete
  13. Not sure how much I've lost - I'm not going to weigh myself for a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I never really got the man boobs thing. Don't get me wrong I'm a big bug but I always prided myself on a relatively lacking in man boobage upper-body. I'm actually more self conscious about my arms which kind of look like toothpicks stuffed with cotton and wrapped in skin.

If you e-mail me I can maybe possibly help you get started foc.

  18. Good call, man. Don't want the numbers game messing with your head. Nice job!

  19. I have a few comments on the Streak and how it relates to Montr...

But seriously, great job! I've been thinking about trying this after healing up from my abdominal surgery since I would like to get back down to at least my college weight.

  26. Doesn't he fucking look like him? And that show is huge right now! I'd absolutely try and run that bullshit on some girls. Especially right now in case he slims down more.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm skinny, but despite being blessed with seemingly good genes and a chiselled jawline I'm totally out of shape, horribly so, I'm out of breath walking up a flight of stairs.. really tempted to start DDP Yoga, I'm blown away by the results that people get from it in such a short space of time.

    ReplyDelete
  28. He does look a lot like him. Had to look the guy up. If he had bangs he'd be essentially identical

    ReplyDelete
  29. im 6'4 240 lbs. im bout 2o lbs from my ideal weight and smoking cigs (newports to be exact) is something I need to give up. Because like you I get out of breath walking up hills n shit too lately.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well he could just play it off like he shaved his head for a movie or whatever. I wish I knew this guy in real life because I'd try and say I was a producer on the show or something. If you look that much like a currently famous actor you owe it to your dick to start lying like crazy to some hoes

  31. Mister_E_Studd_Got100ProblemsApril 8, 2014 at 4:45 PM

Well keep it up and you can be proud of your boobs and your arms both.

Push ups are great too. Burn some fat off the arms, and gives you a good overall shape. I've pretty much only ever done pushups, situps, jump rope, and jogging to stay in shape. And also digging the past couple of summers. A lot of digging. I used to have weights and a speed bag too, but I had trouble staying on those for any real length of time.

    ReplyDelete
  32. That is the cool thing with DDP too, lots of pushups throughout the routines.

    ReplyDelete
  33. See above. If you aren't telling girls you play samwell tarly on GoT already it's time to start before you drop any more lbs big fella

    ReplyDelete
  34. I admit I'm intrigued. I'm generally what you'd call an athlete (Basketball, Tough Mudder, the odd amateur fight here or there, 10-12% body fat), but a couple of injuries have sidelined me for a few months and my horrible eating habits (which are normally mitigated by my workout regime) have stacked an extra twenty pounds on me, and I'd like to get rid of it without aggravating my various maladies.

DDP Yoga the product for that, is is more just to help people who are out of shape get into it?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Mister_E_Studd_Got100ProblemsApril 8, 2014 at 4:49 PM

I've thought about Tough Mudder before was that a good experience?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Not at all. There are actually a number of guys in the wrestling business who now use it. Chris Jericho, for example, uses it exclusively now. I think Golddust does, as well. Ryback uses it as an addendum to his lifting.

The great thing about it is it's almost zero impact, so it's great for people who don't have the knees for running, for example.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Outstanding work, man. Where are you in terms of specific poses? Like, during the lunging poses, are you down on one knee or raised? Where are you at with forward bends? When I started doing yoga, I couldn't even touch my feet. Now I can touch the floor.

That's one of the things I love most about yoga in general. There are so many different variations and modifications you can make to workouts that anyone can do it.

Of course, for anyone who's still not sure about the results, there's the obligatory Arthur video:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qX9FSZJu448

    ReplyDelete
  38. DON'T weigh yourself. If you've gone from no exercise to exercise, you will build a lot of new muscle (even if you can't see it). Muscle weighs more than fat, so quite a few people actually gain weight and get discouraged when they start exercising, even though they are getting healthier.

    ReplyDelete
  39. It seems like this puts P90x to shame. I've started doing weights again and even though I hit them enough, I still feel like I haven't done much even with my biceps killing me.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Mostly a blast. It takes a little while to get used to the feeling of mud in your… everywhere… but a lot of the obstacles are fun, you hit runner's high really early on, and if the weather cooperates it's just generally a good time.

That said, I got to kind of coast because the friend I went with wasn't quite in the same shape I was, so I got to go at his pace instead of really testing my limits. I beat all the obstacles, but if I'd been going full speed I likely would have been gassed halfway through.

Also, the electrocution is not as bad as you've been led to believe, but the arctic enema is a motherfucker.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Interesting. I've been hit by a few cars, so my back is basically a pretzel, and a quack chiropractor messed up my shoulders. I have some lingering knee stuff from a ski racing career in my youth, but it's really the back and shoulder stuff that slows me down in the gym. I think I'll try it. What is it, three days a week? Five?

    ReplyDelete
  42. I look a little like the best friend from Boy Meets World. It's not quite the pantydropper you'd think.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Starts out at three days a week (M/W/F), eventually adds in Saturdays, which are optional. Only about 25 minutes per workout. Naturally, more is added as you advance, but that's to worry about for later.

It's interesting, though. I have a friend who played a lot of basketball and fucked up his back once. Doing the DDP Yoga wound up taking away the back pain within weeks. WEEKS.

Here's Jericho talking about similar back issues, too.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bq0mjQnRnW8

Also, I apologize if it seems like I'm hard-selling the product but I believe in it that much.

    ReplyDelete

  45. It gets weirder. Only on Valentines day. Four fucking times. I don't think i have good romantic karma.

Wile E. Coyote is my spirit animal.

That said, last time was 2009, so I *seem* to have broken he curse.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yeah but that's now. Imagine if you had the look when the show was on TV. And I'm saying you've got to commit to the gimmick and be the guy.

    ReplyDelete
  47. No, that all sounds great. My workouts are 90 minutes, and not in my own house, so saving an extra hour or two per day sounds great, especially if it'll fix expensive medical stuff, too.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Mister_E_Studd_Got100ProblemsApril 8, 2014 at 5:05 PM

He actually said the same thing. I'm probably all talk, I'd have to get my cardio in a better place than it is now, but it definitely sounds like a blast.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Mister_E_Studd_Got100ProblemsApril 8, 2014 at 5:06 PM

    I hope so. Shit.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Some of the pose stuff is tricky for me whenever I'm supposed to direct something behind me and I'm left handed so it kind of throws stuff off.

For the runner's lunge you have one foot out in front of you, foot under your knee. I have that. But behind me I'm supposed to be outstretched with my heel on the floor *while* feeling a stretch in my quad(?) and it's tricky to stay centered on it, so I'll either drop to a knee or modify it just trying to face my foot at forward as possible.

Forward bends have come pretty naturally - I can go down and touch my feet pretty easily and can actually do a squat without much stress.

The only stuff that bums me out is upper body related - so namely the push ups. I can do Down Dog pretty fine and can actually walk myself in pretty far, but I guess it's something about using strength WHILE moving my arms down that's a little weird - I can push UP fine, it's just going down that kills me.

So yeah, I think once i get the flexibility in my calf-to-ankle area I'll be good to go.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Cardio only matters if you care about your time. Its like a 13 mile course, so you have plenty of time to catch your breath if you're not worried about pace. The buddy I did it with, despite good gym habits for the six-eight months beforehand, weighed just a hair under three hundred pounds when we did it.

He didn't exactly set the course record, and he had to opt out of some obstacles, but he finished. Which is really the bigger point; the guys who set course records on stuff like that are invariably creepy and off-putting.

That said, yeah, cardio helps a shitload unless you're planning on walking most of it. My lack of commitment to cardio (and my injuries) are the biggest reasons I'm not running it back this year, though I am planning to go against next year. I'm planning to go with my psychotic Cross Fit friend and try and cut ninety minutes off my time.

    ReplyDelete
  52. 90 minutes how many times a week? You might already have the endurance to do a bit more than the beginner program. You could always add the 15-minute Red Hot Core workout at the end of the scheduled workouts.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Everyone you ask that does it will probably say "Whatever works for you, Brotha". Over a 7 day period I try and do it four days a week.

it's whatever feels best, and I'd imagine since you're already athletic you probably like working out more than I do. That Arthur guy that lost all the weight started doing it five days a week and looks insane now.

    ReplyDelete
  54. When I'm not super injured I usually go 6 times a week. Lately it's been more like 3.

My core strength is stupid, as it's the one part of me that's totally injury free, and therefore has dramatically outpaced everything else.

    ReplyDelete
  55. This just inspired me to buy the 11 workout DVD package. Thank you for the inspiration :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. *nods* Then I'd say, given the injuries, start with the M/W/F and if you're still good at the end of those, toss in the Core workout to keep yourself up on those.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Jesus Christ. I used to get that chubby guy from MadMen all the time, too. The douchey up-his-own-ass one.

    ReplyDelete
  58. There's nothing else to say here, but BANG!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Don't worry. I've have a friend that also does it who's in better shape than me and those push-ups are KILLER. Wait until you get into the more advanced workouts where instead of doing 3-second pushups, they go to 5-second and a REALLY killer 10-second. I still can't do those.

Oh, a good little tip for Downward Dog? Try straightening your arms and imagine trying to push your elbows together. THEN you'll really feel it in your arms, especially your biceps.

Remember that when you're in that lunge to try pushing back with your heel, even if it won't touch the floor. I find that adds a little bit of stability. Also trying to straighten out by thrusting forward a little with your hips help. Kinda like a subtle, rude boy thrust. Squeezing your butt helps push your hip forward a little, too, I find. I started doing that even just in standing and doing Diamond Cutters that it made a big difference.

    ReplyDelete
  60. It's alright. When the budget allows (which it will again starting in like a month) I can mitigate 90% of it with chiropractor and acupuncture. It was just a problem when I took six months off from working to write and didn't have steady income.

That said, I still gained a bunch of weight, so apparently DDP Yoga is for me.

    ReplyDelete
  61. That's really impressive. May have to consider this.

    ReplyDelete
  62. That's awesome man. Great work!

    ReplyDelete
  63. You've definitely got me intrigued. I'm in my late 30's and due to a lifelong love of junk food(and eating in general) I've carried more weight than was desireable all my adult life. My eating habits have improved, causing me to slim down a little but I still have a good load of belly fat which needs shifting, and my overall fitness leaves a lot to be desired. DDP yoga actually does sound like something that could do me a lot of good.
    And congratulations, by the way!

    ReplyDelete
  64. I swear to god, DDP works some sort of magic. A few hundred years ago, he'd have been called a witch and burnt at the stake!

Keep up the great work, man!

  72. Big difference in those picks, brother. Keep it up! Are you following phase 1,2,or 3? I've been doing phase 2 eating plan for almost a year and feel so much better than I did before. 65 lbs gone, and another 15 to go by this summer.
There will be days where you mess up, but just get back up and try again. There will be days where you don't want to do a workout, but you'll thank yourself if you do it anyway. As Dallas says, "own it!" Your hard work has paid off. Keep at it! Bang!

  73. I'm on a modified phrase one in that I do the workouts roughly 4 days a week and try not to shovel too much junk into my mouth. I find if I get too bogged down in specifics I get lost in the 'rules' etc.

  90. Agreed. It's for all fitness levels. There are so many workouts of varying degrees, there's something for everyone. Besides, if you do a workout that's above your fitness level, you can always modify it.

  104. I ordered the max pack DDP Yoga last week. The dvds arrived Friday and I've been doing it every day since. I've been alternating between Energy and Fat Burner and I love these. Never have I been so motivated to work out.

I've tried different cardio and weightlifting, but I always found an excuse to stop or skip or whatever. I know I'm not far in, but I feel more motivated than ever and even though I struggle during the sessions, I always feel great when I'm done.

I'm happy to see DDP Yoga getting some discussion here especially since I'm just starting out.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Welcome aboard! To be honest I haven't tackled fat burner. It's a lot of push ups, right?

    ReplyDelete
  106. There are definitely more than Energy yeah. That's why I like to alternate so far. One day is a little harder.

I'm not horribly out of shape. I'm 30 years old, 5'5" and 130 lbs, but I'm pretty soft in the midsection. I also don't have a ton of muscle. I picked DDP Yoga because I thought it would help me lose the belly fat and gain strength and flexibility.

But yeah Fat Burner has the pushups, broken table, lunges, diamond cutters etc. I feel like I break more of a sweat doing it than Energy.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I lost 15 pounds in a month using DDP Yoga last summer. It is the best workout I've ever done. I fell off the wagon when I went on vacation and never got back on. I gained 20 pounds back. I really need to get back to it. I'm a horrible self-motivator, so I'm hoping that this will become a regular feature on the blog. I feel like that will help me get my ass in gear.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Do it now! I'm about to do it! Lets meet back here in like 20 minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Yeah more than Energy. Its got that, broken table, some crunches, and of course diamond cutters.

I'm 30 years old, 5'5" and 130 lbs. I'm soft in the middle and don't have a ton of muscle. I thought this would be perfect to fix all that. Trim down, gain strength and flexibility.

The fat burner makes me sweat way more than energy which is why I like to alternate.

    ReplyDelete
  110. i'm happy for him. it should be on his own blog.

    ReplyDelete
  111. It's not much more difficult than Energy. Give it a try and modify the pushup part to make it more managable if you need too.

    ReplyDelete
  112. The best time to pick up the routine again was last fall.. The second best time to pick this up again is today.

    ReplyDelete
  113. When you get asked, do you actually do the truffle shuffle?

    ReplyDelete
  114. There's about...four push-ups, I think. And really, there's NOTHING wrong with doing them on your knees until you're strong enough.

    ReplyDelete
  115. No. No I do not.

In all seriousness, I work out with a dude that went from 425 to 290. I wanted to do something for him so I took him to a waterpark where he could enjoy the rides he couldn't get on 2 years prior because he was too big.

Do something nice for yourself. Go buy a new suit so you can feel pride when you see that shirt is a lot smaller than the one you wore into the store.

  117. Your_Favourite_LoserApril 8, 2014 at 9:16 PM

for someone who's basically starting out, i'm guessing packs 1or 2, or the combo pack is best? i remember researching it a while ago, and my 1st thought was about how quickly ones moves through the workouts. is something like the max pack really only for those who want to go all ecw hardcore on things? that's why i figure pack 1, 2, or combo is best b/c it gets you started, but then gives you a little extra if you want to push yourself without getting crazy

    ReplyDelete
  118. Yeah I'd stick with the cheapest package than upgrade from there. Last thing you want is buyers remorse. Then again spending all the money could motivate you to show it who's boss.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Your_Favourite_LoserApril 8, 2014 at 9:20 PM

but arent you throwing away money (as opposed to leaving money on the table) if you don't buy at least somewhat in bulk? isn't upgrading really going to be just buying some of the same stuff again, in addition to the new stuff?

    ReplyDelete
  120. Exactly. But, it's 3500 calories :-X. I've been "bodybuilding" and weight lifting for about eight years now. I am dumbfounded about how dumb some people are when it comes to dieting. "Oh eat this instead of that!" All BS. It ALL comes down to numbers. Burn more cals than you eat...boom you are in a deficit. Eat more than you burn...boom you are in a surplus. Eat the same as you burn...boom you are at maintenance. 1g protein per lb. of BW (still a little high according to research), 25% or 0.5g per lb. of BW for fat, and fill the rest of your calories with carbs. You can eat ANYTHING that fits within those macronutrient ranges. Eat 10-15g of fiber per 1000 cals, and at least 2 servings of vegetables and fruit a day. Such simple stuff that people make WAYYYYYYYY too complicated.

  125. Keep at it sir. I bought a DDP yoga package some time ago and just haven't started. You may have just inspired me to do so.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Except it's not always about weight loss. Which is actually why I like DDP Yoga. He even says that the weight loss is not the focus, just a bonus; it's more about flexibility and feeling better (having more energy in your day). Also, eating the right foods shouldn't just be about weight loss.

Again, it's about how the food makes you feel. If you can eat the way you eat without feeling sluggish and tired all the time, then great! But a lot of people try to do what you suggest, and even though they're technically eating the "right" things, they still may find they feel like shit.

I don't 100% buy the whole wheat belly thing like DDP does, but I do have to say that I feel a lot better when I do not eat gluten. For me, it's never a choice about weight loss, it's about how I feel throughout the day.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Good job, man! I've been doing it for a year. I feel better than I ever have. I do one of the workouts pretty much every other day, and I'm just so much more willing to do those little things that I used to be too lazy for and think I didn't have the time for.

Also, something you might want to consider are yoga blocks. I had horrible balance, too, when I first did it, and they helped tremendously. In regards to the Runner's Lunge, just make sure your weight isn't pushing your body forward, causing your knee to go too far over your ankle. That happened to me A LOT when I first did it last year, and once I got used to it, the stress on my knee and the strain on my leg (does your leg feel like it's on fire when you "explode" out of the position, as DDP likes to say?)--the sense that I was OVERworking my leg muscles, went from painful muscle strain to good muscle burn when I paid more attention to where my knee was in relation to my ankle.

Anyway, keep it up man. I love hearing stories like this.

Great job man, congrats! Definite difference in the photos. I'm starting DDP Yoga soon. I'm thinking of "acquiring" it and see if I can do it then if I can buying the pack.

  129. Dude, wait until you get to Diamond Cutter. It's the hardest workout I've ever done in my life, but when you finish it, you will feel like you won the lottery of life.

I'm really proud of you. That's amazing. Keep at it! You'll be amazed how much better you'll feel next month and the month after!

  130. This was a one-shot deal.

    ReplyDelete
  131. If I was a really fat guy, I'd be giving that shit away. I wouldn't even wait for someone to ask me. I'd make the truffle shuffle be like my handshake - everyone gets one whenever they meet me. Of course, if I danced that much it would probably be hard to stay really fat. So, I guess I'd have to truffle shuffle in moderation.
Cool shit is wasted on the morbidly obese.
