Scott, long time lurker now revelling in my mid 30's and missing the glory days of my youth... Are you surprised that the WWE hasn't done a proper copy of the rocky 3 storyline? I mean come on, its writes itself for Bryan to face lame duck challengers before getting smashed by the up and coming heel (a la Clubber Lang), who tells him exactly how it is. Then to have him struggle to come to terms with winning again, before the final redemption at Wrestlemania. Hell, Brock would fit this perfectly with Heyman mocking Bryan for being the weak champion, whilst Brock goes on his path of destruction leading to a demolition job of Bryan for the title.
They could even call on old thunderlips if they want...
Thoughts?

Rocky 3 is a really great fucking movie.
However, I would think this would turn Bryan heel and people would HATE that. The story would have worked better with someone like Randy Orton, where people can buy him as a paper champion getting fed tomato cans by the Authority until Brock somehow bullies his way into a title shot.
That's why they really need to build up Bryan as a fighting champion, who throws everything at Brock at Summerslam and just gets overpowered, forcing him to regroup and find a new strategy to win at Wrestlemania. That being said, by next year it'll be all about Reigns or back to Cena, so I'm not holding my breath.
I agree with DBry being built up as a fighting champion. Bryan has been pegged as the underdog long enough.
ReplyDeleteCena, however would be perfect for the Rocky 3 push.
Right, it's exactly what the Brock feud in 2012 should have been leading to...and then it just didn't.
ReplyDeleteAfter 1 and before 6, Rocky was getting the Cena level of pushing.
ReplyDeleteIf Brock wins the title they're gonna build Reigns and he's not ready.
ReplyDelete1,2-Underdog face
ReplyDelete3-cocky bastard that becomes a face again.
4-Fighting for AMURICAH! face
5-boring
6-Veteran looking for one more fight.
Bryan/Brock is a legit Sting/Vader 2.0 waiting to happen...doubt it will, though.
ReplyDeleteBrock is a real life version of Drago,he only lacks a chemical engineering graduation.
ReplyDeleteI think it could work with Bryan, with a twist that he keeps facing designated #1 contenders by the Authority, which is the basic WWE Monthly Plot Device anyway.
ReplyDeleteBrock can keep smashing people on the side and then do the Clubber Lang bit where he calls out Bryan.
I mean, that's what they're building to anyway, right? Or should be.
Cena did this for a month after the wrestlemania 28 loss to Rock lol.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with this is Bryan has a losing streak which would be brought up air. That rarely if ever ends up well unless you want a JTTS.
ReplyDeleteAre you a chick or a dude? You're pretty knowledgeable about wrestling of you're a woman
ReplyDeleteA/S/L?
ReplyDeleteEven if he did it with the Rock. Rock beat him the first time and Cena refocuses and beats him the second time. THAT would have made sense.
ReplyDeleteThat was kind of like Bret's first world title reign leading to Yoko. Fighting champ, threw everything at the giant challenger, lost via chicanery (let's forget Hogan and Luger), goes on a tear by winning the King of the Ring and other challengers leading to his rematch at WMX where he finally beats a Yoko.
ReplyDeleteKind of silly to say who will and won't be ready in a year
ReplyDeleteMan, I just got done watching that myself. Hail Netflix.
ReplyDeleteActually, we need a Rant for Balboa/Thunderlips. Despite the Sportz Entertainment finish, I gave it *** easily. Rocky was bumping like a Jericho in there.
That literally made me LOL

ReplyDeleteWE GET ONE GIRL IN HERE, AND YOU ALL POUNCE.
ReplyDeleteTwo with Princess, unless you guys know something I don't
ReplyDeleteSorry to all the D-Bry fans but he'll have the belt for a bit, then lose, then that will be it.
ReplyDeleteThere's another girl who trashes Meekin. It's glorious
ReplyDeleteI'd rather a new guy main event Mania. Bryan's had his moment and if WWE is serious about putting new guys in top spots then they need to have a guy Cesaro or Reigns face Lesnar, assuming he's champ by then.
ReplyDeleteAnd there's nothing wrong with that. After he loses it he'll go back to being an upper carder who occasionally gets title shots and is dependable for having great matches.
ReplyDelete16/female/Jerry Lawlers house
ReplyDeleteI don't come here deliberately to make fun of Meekin. It just happens!
ReplyDeleteOnly without Drago's stellar speaking skills.
ReplyDeleteand theres nothing wrong with being a strong hand and the situation you just painted. Some people fly off the handle if you say anything that criticizes him or say he wont be the next Cena.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good idea for a storyline, and I don't think Bryan would look as worse for wear as people think, but I just can't see Vince *and* Trips willing to accept the WWE Championship being on the sidelines for 2/3rds a year because of Brock's contract, especially in an era of MULTIPLE weekly TV. The only way I could see this working is if the belts are split up again (which can't happen until after Bryan loses them), or if WWE shells out for Brock to work more dates (which probably won't happen given Brock's contract is likely expensive enough as it is). Barring that, it's better to keep it simple if you're going to do Bryan/Brock and have Brock kill Bryan at every opportunity leading up to the match, where Bryan wins to truly prove once and for all that he deserves to be on top.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm not even saying he should never be champ again, just that nothing they'll do for him later on will compare to Mania 30.
ReplyDeleteNo way Jerry would date someone that old
ReplyDelete"You're pretty knowledgeable about wrestling of you're a woman"
ReplyDeleteEven I found that to be sexist
oh for sure.
ReplyDeleteThey can afford to give Brock more money if they want. Just pay him to wrestle more special events.
