Kurt Angle's Tribute to America's Troops

Because I like to be a little more obscure with my tactlessness.

  1. ... What... What the hell did I just watch??

Seriously, how was Kurt not shot within 2 weeks of that?

  2. You can't get shot if you shoot first.

  3. Spoken like a 9 year old girl.

    Too soon?

    ReplyDelete
  4. And don't forget Kurt Angle's not a fan of the black people. And if there was one person in history he could put the anklelock on, it'd be Jesus Christ.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I remember that, but it was a bit different as he was clearly speaking in a sarcastic tone. like "i *COULD* say those things, and i'd still get cheered".

But that promo seems very straight forward.

  6. I do wonder if WWE made Angle do this because they knew he would soon leave the company so wanted to destroy his credibility before he left. Much like how some conspiracist theorists believe Vince wanted to destroy Bret's credibility well in advance before jumping to WCW.

  7. He didn't say much wrong there to be honest.

I thought heels were supposed to lie and be objectionable.

  8. The thing I agree most with is the "no more draft" thing. Like in Farenheit 9/11, when Moore was trying to make politicians sign up their kids for Iraq, it's like THAT IS THEIR CHOICE. It would only be a valid tactic if those politicians did draft people and force them to go.

In closing, Michael Moore is an idiot.

  9. Angle: "And the door's locked too!"

  11. Holy shit, I've never seen that before. That's...wow. I mean, the funny thing is, like VadersBuffetShit said, Angle's not really WRONG in most of what he says here. It's an asshole thing to say because those troops were working hard over there and also working in some incredibly dangerous places - and getting killed - but he's not entirely wrong.

  12. I think it was an early attempt to get the fans behind cena on raw.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I heard they were gonna bring in an unknown to play a soldier who had just come home from Afghanistan with PTSD to feud with Angle but they eventually dropped it.

    ReplyDelete
  14. It was going to lead to a Bootcamp Match, which would end with Angle losing and being introduced to his new instructor...Pat Patterson.

    ReplyDelete
  15. And so are you for failing to see the bigger picture. Moore wasn't make points about a draft - he was making the point that politicians are regularly happy to send everyone else's kids overseas to die in needless conflicts, but the vast majority wouldn't dream of sending their own.

That bit of the film came in conjunction with the military personnel specifically targeting poor black kids to sign up and offering all sorts of stupid 'inducements'.

But sure, make it out to be about 'the draft' if that makes you sleep easier in your cot.

  16. I called you an idiot further up the thread. I now withdraw that for this.

It's never too soon for this.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Angle was feuding with Cena and the fans were cheering for Angle too much, so that happened.

    ReplyDelete
  18. SGT Craig Pittman please and thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Did that military personal sign up those black kids without their consent, like Moore was trying to make the politicians do for their sons?

    ReplyDelete
  20. And then he inexplicably turned babyface by winning the World Heavyweight Championship battle royal about 3 weeks after he cut that promo.

    ReplyDelete
  21. It is and it isn't. From having served, I can safely say that most of the people I served with came from the kind of communities you can only escape from by signing up to throw yourself into the Meat Grinder. There was also a disproportionately high number of children of immigrants serving so they could fast-track their citizenship.

Basically, we have a silent draft that exploits the poor and foreigners, but hey, they volunteered, right? Who needs to give a shit about the context under which it happened.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Was this during Angle's feud with John Cena? They went to ridiculous lengths to get the crowd to turn on Angle, which hilariously never happened.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Well, you could always shoot and miss and then get shot. Or you could wound a guy then he could shoot you. Or after you shot THAT guy his friends could then shoot you. You could shoot a guy and then accidentally shoot yourself....

There are a lot of alternatives you're not taking into consideration here

    ReplyDelete
  24. True, like when Han Solo dodged that creature's shot, then retaliated by shooting it in the first Star Wars.

  25. They specifically target poor neighborhoods because of the higher likelihood of retention, usually making promises that won't be kept (signing bonuses, etc.) or outright lying (likelihood of deployment to combat zones, especially for the Army). Yes, there was "consent," but the burden of that is being unfairly placed on the working class.

    ReplyDelete
  26. So then, they do not sign up those poor kids without their consent. Gotcha.

    ReplyDelete
  27. They drove iron spikes into the guy's ankles and he came back from that, so I don't think he'd tap from any ankle lock

    ReplyDelete
  28. It can't be considered consent if they were lied to/misled. It happens more frequently than you'd imagine. Even the dude I went through to tried to slip it past me by "encouraging" me to take an earlier leave date for Basic Training despite the fact that I knew I'd lose the job I was guaranteed; others weren't so lucky. They have quotas they have to meet, so they do whatever they can to fill those numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yes, Moore thought that if he cornered a politican their children would be legally mandated to serve in the armed forces without their consent based on something their father said when caught on camera.

That's exactly the plan Michael Moore had in mind. And he would've gotten away with it too if it weren't for you meddlesome teenagers!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yeah, I thought that was point was pretty easy to see. Overall, most of the architects of the war either had no skin in the game with family members or their middle name should've been "Deferment.

Do they put a gun to their heads and force them to sign? No.

However, when you're talking about people living in poverty with no hope, it's much easier to con and manipulate them. "You'll get $xxx.xx to send home every month! That would really help your family out, wouldn't it?" "We'll train you in any field you want! It's just like college!" "You get to see the world!" And, as noted, the immigration fast-track issue and the (misguided) assumption that the U.S. won't deport the relatives of someone serving in the military.

So you're right when you say that it's still a choice. But they definitely stack the deck.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Holy fucking shit. That was intense!

    ReplyDelete
  33. If Cena's involved you bet your ass they're gonna go to ridiculous lengths to get the crowd to do what they want. Hardly ever works, but it's a constant

    ReplyDelete
  34. And what's funny is it was so transparent that it made people cheer Angle louder.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Now I'm nostalgic about 2005 and 2006. Has WWE really fallen that much?

    ReplyDelete
  36. mmm thats some good heelin

    ReplyDelete
  37. I love when blatant heel promos are completely true.

    ReplyDelete
  38. But they still volunteered. I know many people that have, I grew up in loserland Buffalo. I fully understand why they did... the other options of being forced to work a terrible slave job for chicken feed, or selling drugs, or the gov't giving you a few grand a year isn't inspiring. But, they still made the choice.
