BoD Daily Update

Steve Austin Getting Ready for WrestleMania?

Some people have taken the fact that he has been training hard as a sign that he is getting ready. According to Dave Meltzer, the last he heard about the subject is that Austin's appearance on the show will all come down to the right creative idea and the right amount of money.

  1. They should run an NXT special the week before Christmas and make it holiday themed. Would be fun.

  2. An Austin Wrestlemania rumor... 10 years people... 10 years...

    ReplyDelete
  3. TJ: This happened 3 years ago right after MITB 2011, but I had never seen it. Incredible.

The best 2 parts, the 6 year old kid did a perfect prediction on how Mysterio would win the new title, only for Cena to win it from him...

And the long argument between "Belt" and "Championship". You guys should be proud, the 6 year old agrees with you!! :)

  4. What does everyone think about the TNA spoiler? I kind of feel like that ship sailed but then again I never watch anyways so maybe it didn't.

Also (and this is completely unrelated to the spoiler for anyone who doesn't know) what happened to Aries? Is he still in TNA or did they cost cut him too. I kind of miss cm punk so I wouldn't mind enjoying a little of his cheap knock off on TNA.

    ReplyDelete
  5. These comebacks of older dudes (Bret, The Rock) always seem to end in disappointment.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Glad to see ROH finally heading west without having to piggyback off of WWE. They had almost 1000 people at their San Antonio show in February, an area they have never been to before last year. I'm really pulling for them to take over TNA's spot in the wrestling world.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Seems harsh to call Bret's comeback match a disappointment. Yeah it sucked but did you expect anything else? I agree they shouldn't have had him wrestle.

    ReplyDelete
  8. 10 years since what?

    ReplyDelete
  9. I think Meltzer gets that questioned asked to him a 100 times a day.
At least once a week someone asks him about that in the mailbag

    ReplyDelete
  10. It's not necessarily the match but the whole angle seemed a bit...I dunno...meh? I did like Bret's performance in the Summerslam match, though. And that promo where Vince is dressing him down and you can see his reflection in Bret's glasses was a cool visual.

    ReplyDelete
  11. 10 years since he's wrestled (actually 11 now that I think about it), and 10 years of non stop, yearly rumors about him returning. It's as ridiculous as the yearly Sting and Goldberg ones. I mean, he was seen at the gym! He *MUST* be training for a rasslin' return, he couldn't possibly have just felt like having a work out!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. At the very least, it was booked as an long, extended squash. Aka, the opposite of Lawler/Cole the next year.

    ReplyDelete
  13. OK yeah. And by wm it would be 12. And he's been out of the public eye all that time too. He still looks the same but I can't envision it, and I really wouldn't even care. Now if they brought punk back...

    ReplyDelete
  14. RAW should also... bring back Krismas Kreature, and Xanta Claus!

    ReplyDelete
  15. But hey, i see them working. If they make a rumor of it each and every year for the rest of eternity, then MAYBE they'll eventually get it right? Maybe?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Maybe Del Rio can turn heel for 1 week, and run over Santa with his fancy car?

    ReplyDelete
  17. As far as Rock, I'm not one to trump buy rates as meaning anything when talking about enjoyment as a fan, but I loved the Rock vs Cena part 1 match, and his appearance at raw 1000. Also I think if you watch the punk matches with a purely objective eye they are very entertaining.
The build up for rock vs Cena 2 was pathetic and lazy and the match was bad until the last 5 minutes

    ReplyDelete
  18. As long as DiBiase is with Xanta, I am in.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Or he could slap him OMG ITS A SHOOT!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yeah i am curious what the feel on Rock's run would be if he just dropped the belt back to Punk or even Brock at Mania or something along those lines.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Now that I think about it they really should have had Dibiase try to buy Christmas one year or something like that just to get over what a rich dick head heel he was.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I wish they would have kept the belt on punk at the rumble either by a non finish or heel shenanigans and then had him job in feb

    ReplyDelete
  23. Stone Cold/Hulk Arm Wrestling contest Book it!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I hear what you're saying and I think the execution of some of the stuff was great. I guess as a big-time fan of Rock, I was hoping for an Austin-Rock kind of build-up/war with him and Cena since it had been teased for so long. But in the end, it just felt very meh.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm afraid Hulk's arm will break off.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm no Mark Madden fan but his I laughed hard at his article title "The Night they Drove Old Dixie Down"
I didn't bother reading the article but the headline slayed me

    ReplyDelete
  27. Still there, basically part of the "Anti-MVP" group, although he might be transitioning into being part of Storm's opposition.

    ReplyDelete
  28. My thought is: "Who cares about PPVs?" Classic TNA.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I thought the build for the first match was pretty good, or at least had it's moments. The rematch? Why even bother if that's all they were going to do?

    ReplyDelete
  30. They're just following the wwes lead I guess. When way more people stream your ppv than buy it I'd say fuck it too.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Let me preface this by saying that I'm a Steve Austin fan and the fact that he's held out as long as he has tells me that if and when he does come back, it'll be for a strong program and not just an excuse to wrestle.

That being said, can you imagine Wrestlemania 15 featuring a match with Bruno, 12 years after his last one? Granted, Bruno was older when he retired than Austin is now but I think it's a valid comparison. It's a completely different generation of fans and I just don't see how draws any additional money.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hard to believe it's been 13 years for ROH. ROH in 2005 brought me back into wrestling after drifting away for a bit. I also drifted around 95ish and I recall an Eddie Guerrero - Dean Malenko match on Saturday night or something just captivating me and dragging me back in. I haven't watched the last 3 Raws at all. I feel myself drifting away again.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The ideal scenario is Austin vs. Punk but if that is off the table, who is Austin's opponent? I can't see them putting him against Brock because he can't take Brock's offense. Cena? Seems boring and Cena seems too cartooney to put up against Stone Cold. HHH? Please no more Hunter in matches.

Ambrose would be cool but he'd have to be pushed hard to make him believable as an Austin opponent. Same with Bray Wyatt.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Why would I care about TNA when I can watch shitty end-stage WCW PPVs on the Network?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I wonder if Meltzer has something saved in a Word doc about Austin returning and he just changes some words around and puts it in the Observer.

    ReplyDelete
  36. It has to be a legend type deal (retired guy or Punk/Cena) or a legit heel. I don't think Ambrose would benefit much (unless he goes full blown heel before) because fans are going to be so into Austin.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I don't have any issues with Meltzer, but this Austin rumor is ridiculous.

For all we know, Austin feels fat, so he's working out extra hard. Maybe he's doing it so he can run his own obstacle course. I mean, who knows what the reason is. And I'm sure WWE is a possibility as well.

    It's really a non-news, and shouldn't be reported.

    ReplyDelete

    Where It All Begins...Again

    ReplyDelete
  39. And now I'm imagining Austin asking his podcast guests, off the air, if he looks fat.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh well. Meltzer is credited as a journalist but in truth, the way wrestling is, he's really just a rumour-mongerer.

    ReplyDelete
  41. He would totally ask that on the air, dude.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think you are reading way too much into it.
He reports on what his readers want to hear sometimes. If they keep asking him about something, he will try to get an answer.
And, this was just a brief two sentence write up in the observer, not a featured piece.

    ReplyDelete
  43. People have to get their shots at Dave in, no matter the reason.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Dave gets asked about a scsa comeback all the time. Austin probably told Meltzer if the price was right and the idea was good I'd do it. He's just answering questions from his paying customers, some of whom are retarded and ask the same stupid shit over and over.

Something something Meltzer inaccuracy joke something something is except when he isn't something something..

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm just saying that a "retired wrestler is working out! is he coming back?!" that's not really news.

I mean, when Hogan spews BS about having one last match, that's more of news than Austin lifting some weights or going for a run.

"Austin bought low-fat milk! Is he's prepping for a return at WM?!"

    ReplyDelete
  47. Dave gets asked this and the Austin turn after WM 17 all the time.
I think he is getting sick of them at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Charismatic eNegro Jef VinsonSeptember 19, 2014 at 8:33 AM

Anytime a former athlete is seen working out they MUST be prepping for a comeback....unless they're just, you know...working out.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I find it funny that those who do not subscribe to him are the ones who always complain about what is in the Observer

    ReplyDelete
  50. NXT Silent Night, Deadly Night
Special Guest: Duke "The Dumpster" Droese

    ReplyDelete
  51. The funniest part is you can tell the people who trash him have never actually read the observer. Oh he's just rumorZ and dirt sheetz. They are basing their opinion on him off a paraphrased tidbit on 411 or wz that is out of context and presented by the website in a sensational manner.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I don't have a problem at all with Meltzer and what he does. It's just these types of comments from any of these reporters as pointless and ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Charismatic eNegro Jef VinsonSeptember 19, 2014 at 8:34 AM

I'm honestly surprised they still use a PPV format. That can't be profitable for them.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Austin does apparently have something in the works with the WWE.
But if that is the answer Meltzer is given when he asks about his comeback, then I don't see the problem in reporting that.

    ReplyDelete
  55. "Yep Mode" ABeyAnce1©September 19, 2014 at 8:36 AM

I'm liking the the way NXT is setting up their special, because then when they happen, it actually means something instead of feeling pointless. Kind of like the shows of the late 80s early 90s.

    ReplyDelete
  56. "Yep Mode" ABeyAnce1©September 19, 2014 at 8:36 AM

    Darkside........

    ReplyDelete
  57. He has a mailbag. Paying members can ask him questions. He tries to answer them all. Most wrestling fans are stupid. They ask him about Austin coming back. He answers them based on what Austin told him. A free wrestling news website just reports it as, Meltzer says x! People who then have never read his shit trash him for rumors.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Austin himself has said a few times he'd consider it if everything lined up properly. That's fine and should be reported and has been reported.

It's all the non-news stuff. ESPN does it all the time with LeBron. At least now that LeBron is back in Cleveland, we probably don't have to talk about how "LeBron is wearing a Yankees cap! He's going to the Knicks!" nonsense.

    ReplyDelete
  59. "Yep Mode" ABeyAnce1©September 19, 2014 at 8:38 AM

I always say that if those 2 had a legit match now, they would both be crippled by nights end.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Clearly, these are made up. Wade Barrett is "recovering from shoulder surgery" when he's probably just a person with two arms. Go home, Meltzer! You're drunk!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I kind of wish Meltzer just answers this particular question every day, just to see when people get sick of it (his actual paying customers, not the rest of us who get it 2nd hand).

    ReplyDelete
  62. Since it's Barrett, he'll probably have a set back and get delayed again.

Then Vince will decide his new gimmick is an injury prone wrestler named the Setback.

    ReplyDelete
  63. My advice to Bayless, stop sharing ANY news from Meltzer. Let these people who hate him go get there own wrestling news. When those of us with a won sub want to discuss anyone of his intererknge tibbits or stories in the comments then they can get a little info but otherwise fuck it. Let em go bitch on 411 or wz about an out of context Meltzer statement. Meanwhile we'll know the big wm31 matches in a few weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Charismatic eNegro Jef VinsonSeptember 19, 2014 at 8:43 AM

It would be like the movie "Death Becomes Her" all over again.

  65. "Yep Mode" ABeyAnce1©September 19, 2014 at 8:43 AM

He already lost Scherer's news.....oh wait.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Lol he seriously answers it every week too

    ReplyDelete
  67. Really? Good for him he has an easy stream of revenue.

The popular stereotype of wrestling fans is country folk who don't know much about anything, but sheesh...talking about living the gimmick.

How do these people ask the same question over and over again? They can't all be new subscribers.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Hard to believe they've been around longer than ECW and WCW when they started as a thrown-together show to sell overpriced VHS tapes.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Meltzer reported what you wrote in your first sentence.
And the other thing he touched upon was opinions from those close to him.
People are making a bigger deal out of the tidbit than Meltzer himself

    ReplyDelete
  70. Every mailbag has is Austin coming back and also about Austin's heel turn after Mania.
    Its routine at this point

    ReplyDelete
  71. I don't think anyone hates Meltzer. If they actually hated him, that'd be weird.

    ReplyDelete
  72. They can a long way from the Murphy Rec Center Days

    ReplyDelete
  73. Scherer probably hates him. He's holding Scherer down! Scherer needs a 3rd house!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Some wrestling fans have some weird sort of persecutory complex about guys like Meltzer and Keller. It's odd

    ReplyDelete
  75. Legit lol'd on that. And I was reading it while talking to a Client on the phone.
