Bobby Lashley Update
Lashley, despite being the TNA Champion, is not advertised for the Bound for Glory PPV in Japan. It has been reported that TNA has not been willing to commit to Lashley as the champion until after his MMA fight on 9/6 as they are waiting to see how that fight goes before making a decision regarding the title.

Rusev Update
It has been reported that Rusev has quickly become a favorite of both HHH and Vince McMahon and that agents for his matches have learned to make sure he looks dominant or else face the wrath of Vince afterwards. He is currently slated for one of the top 3-4 matches at WrestleMania next year and him going undefeated until then is very much a possibility.

Rusev should get the U.S. belt at some point and essentially just beat challenger after challenger until then.
ReplyDeleteCena, with Hogan in his corner, can challenge for it at Mania 31. Keeps Cena out of the main title picture at Mania, gives the U.S. title some rub, gives an up-and-comer some prime time with Cena (which hopefully won't be booked the way Wyatt was last year), and gives Hogan something to do.
Del Rio should take a page from MadTV and debut as El Asso Wipo or Senor Bag of Crap.
ReplyDeleteSwitched fit
ReplyDeleteSwitched it
ReplyDeleteFitched Swit
ReplyDeleteWhat do you get if you cross Alberto Del Rio with the Patriot?
ReplyDeleteAlberto Del Wilkes.
THANK YOU! I'll be here all night.
Cue the people complaining that Rusev will get buried in 6 months when he eventually loses to a top guy, possibly Cena.
ReplyDeleteAnd wow, TNA desperately wants a WWE castoff who would not move the needle one iota, but would cost them a lot of money to acquire. SHOCKING!
Holy Crap TNA so...WWE puts the belt on Bryan so you put the belt on your low rent big beard guy. Then everyone knew WWE was going to put the belt on former UFC champion Brock so you put the belt on your low rent mma guy. Now you decide..wait..what if he loses his real fight...we can't have a guy losing a real fight be the champion of our pretend fight league....Spike TV should start a new reality show called TNA: The Writers Room and it might actually turn a profit for the company.
ReplyDeleteJust have Roode beat Lashley now.
ReplyDeleteA homegrown TNA guy beating a WWE castoff?? BWAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAH!!!
ReplyDeleteI think they are more concerned he will win and ditch them so they don't want to really get behind him.
ReplyDeleteSir...clearly you are unaware that that Lashely was a ECW heavyweight champion like 7 years ago AND with belator there is huge cross over potential of about 10,000 people!
ReplyDeleteYou will? That is long time to spend on the BoD in one day.
ReplyDelete#NoSellTheJoke
WIN! WIN! WIN!! We will not tolerate losers in TNA! You have to be Number one!! WIN!! WIN!! WINN!!!
ReplyDeleteoh silly me..I assumed he was under some sort of contract and that TNA had that worked out before putting the belt on him in the first place...you know after having wrote all those assumptions about TNA planning a head out..I feel very silly.
ReplyDeleteHe might have a chance to out post Abeyance.
ReplyDeleteI know, makes their company look good, amirite?
ReplyDeleteI love when Vince beats him for the title and has that stupid Vince look on his face and that stupid hat.
ReplyDeleteThe leader board isn't there anymore... I think the post count war will likely end now.
ReplyDeleteLets not go that far
ReplyDeleteI will just say that the Cena/Lashley PPV match in 2007 is not often talked about, and pretty much came out of nowhere, but it was a VERY good power vs power match. Anyone who hasn't seen it, check it out on the Network, for ONLY $9.99!!
ReplyDeleteI think most agree that Rusev needs to get the U.S. title soon, but if they're going to have him going into WrestleMania undefeated and towards the top of the card, AND if they're going to have Cena challenging him then (or another top guy), then I suggest this is a perfect time to unify the U.S. and Intercontinental titles. That way we're finally back down to one secondary belt and if Rusev just murders everyone along the way, that title may finally have some prestige again.
ReplyDeleteSadly I bet this is the conversation in TNA.....Why would we put the belt on Roode? He isn't a big enough star! If he was he would not have been stuck here his whole career.
ReplyDeleteRusev still bores me but at least they are clear focus on.....someone from the mid card. Cena seems the smart choice for him at Mania if they keep to this plan right? Then what I mean you would think he would go over Cena because...new guy you put a lot of effort into vs. 40 year old breaking down guy but...Bray might suggest otherwise.

Great Strikeforce vs The High Flyers match from AWA. Martel and Santana were just so smooth in the ring together. GIRLS IN CARS!!!
Rusev winning the US title and staying undefeated until Mania is totally what they should do. Him and Lana are getting excellent heel heat (fuck, listen to the crowd reacting just from Rusev walking down the aisle during that shitty Show/Henry vs Wyatts match on Monday) and the guy can legit work.
ReplyDeleteWould make an excellent opponent for Cena or even Bryan at Mania.
holy crap I never knew they teamed together before they were wondering to themselves could a woman really look that nice
ReplyDeleteShe needs to watch some Fox News so she can be better at putting down the President... calling him a "wuss" in like .1 Hannity.
ReplyDeleteWILL YOU STOP?!?
ReplyDeleteNeed to thread jack? Do it on the forum! http://rspwfaq.boards.net/ Where you can read about all the blog meltdowns in their full glory. ALSO WE NEED MODS!
ReplyDeleteI watched that a couple months back and was surprised how good it was. Cena was in fine form that year. He even varied Khali to 2 watchable matches.
ReplyDeleteIts been said before, but this Rusev push is screaming for a US or World title run where he rebrands it the Russian title. It's not really original or clever, but sometimes the obvious thing to do is the right thing to do.
ReplyDeleteI loves me some Rusev. At least we got that going for us.
ReplyDeleteI'm not gonna tell you again and you'll be outta here!
ReplyDeleteWould love to see TNA attempt to do the expensive car gimmick if they ever signed Del Rio.
ReplyDelete"We're going to have to cut Eric Young. We just can't afford him AND the Mustang we just rented from Hertz"
But how much is the network?
ReplyDeleteDel Rio will come out in a Corolla
ReplyDeleteit's like 10 bucks or something
ReplyDeletePerfect. Go all-out with a new belt design with the Russian flag that whoever eventually beats him for it can destroy like a typical wrestling trophy.
ReplyDeleteThat's actually a perfect way to not only unify the titles, but also bring back some meaning to it. But he would have to do the rebranding gimmick (Russian Championship) to top it all off.
ReplyDeleteYou're kidding me, right? Lashley won the title in June, which was weeks before Money in the Bank when the WWE title was vacated.
ReplyDeleteQuit being an asshole.
Hell yes, it's instant heat too.
ReplyDeleteWork is already horrid. I need some meltdowns today. C'mon babayyy
ReplyDeleteThe stupid whistling co-worker got moved to another desk, so I'm in a jolly mood now. SORRY! NO MELTDOWNS HERE!!!
ReplyDeleteI'll say this once again. For the last year or so, Dave Meltzer has been COMPLETELY out of the loop with TNA. He has been completely incorrect on all of his predictions and fake backstage stories. He just makes stuff up now out of the air. He has no sources inside of TNA anymore. TNA releases their own Breaking News before the dirtsheets get it, so Dave is left coming up with random fake stories to get clicks on his website because he has nothing else to put in the TNA news section because he has no sources. Seriously, go back and look at all of the stuff that has happened in TNA this year. Meltzer predicted NONE of it.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a perfect Friday.
ReplyDeleteHe had Konnan as a source when he was there. Not sure about now.
ReplyDeleteIt's fri-day, fri-day, gotta get down on fri-day...
ReplyDeleteHe has no sources in TNA. No one likes him in TNA and they will not release stories to him.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Honestly, WWE has tried everything to update its product for the digital age while, at the same time, try to push Legends and nostalgia to sell things like DVDs, the Hall of Fame, and (of course) the Network. Obviously it isn't working.
ReplyDeleteEven just as an experiment, WWE should go against all Sportz Entertainment instincts and book Rusev like he would've been booked in 1985 and see what happens. They might be surprised.
So everything is fine then?
ReplyDeleteOf course. Always has been.
ReplyDeleteLashley's fight isn't 9/6. It's tonight. He's fighting a total tomato can per usual.
ReplyDeleteSo they have been advertising Lashley for Bound for Glory?
ReplyDeleteSadly, if it involves any sort of significant change in creative or the business model general, it won't happen. That's been the problem for the longest time.
ReplyDeleteI think Bundy was pretty much done with WWE after this match. Too bad, because the WWF needed as many heels as it could get at this point. For whatever reason, Bundy stuck out as a guy from another era and didn't fit into mid-90's WWF. Maybe because they were pushing this "new generation" crap so much, I don't know.
ReplyDeleteLink doesn't work.
ReplyDeleteThe Monday Night Wars episodes have the same thing going on with the "viewer discretion" versions, for whatever it's worth. No clue what the difference is.
ReplyDeleteWonder why they put him with Humperdink and made him as face after his initial debut in 88. Wouldn't he have been a great heel to play against hogan and savage? And the build for his debut was awesome
ReplyDeleteSo what would be the better match: Shawn Michaels vs. a 50 gallon tank of oil, or Ric Flair vs. the broomstick.
ReplyDeleteI always forget Bigelow had a WWF run in the late 80s.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Vince marked out for Shawn all the time while announcing on RAW and PPV's. I remember reading that, off-camera, at Survivor Series 96, while the MSG crowd turned on Shawn and started rooting for Sid, McMahon took off his headset for a full minute during the broadcast and looked out at the crowd with a WTF? expression. He couldn't believe they weren't into Shawn's face act.
ReplyDeleteKinda funny because of Vince's notorious big man fetish. Before this and after this he almost always preferred to push big guys. Sure, there was Bret Hart in 92-95 but this was at the height of the steroid era. By the time Shawn was on top in 96, the scandal had died down. HBK was really the first "small" guy they pushed as the face of the company. Whatever was going on there, it sure gave us a nice reprieve from the Diesels and Mabels of the world.
I think they'd have a hard time keeping him heel in 1988. Bam Bam's look and athleticism probably would've gotten him over as a babyface or a tweener at the time whether the WWF wanted it or not. A Hogan / Bam Bam feud would probably be at the risk of fans turning on Hogan ala Jake Roberts.
ReplyDeleteJust because Russo overused swerves doesn't make them inherently bad. You even have a logical reason for the turn, have Diesel go into 1996 heel mode a year early and cite how Shawn Michaels is quickly becoming the favored son of the WWF, and the champion gets no respect.
ReplyDeleteWas there ever a Shawn vs. Bam Bam match? Shawn is pretty good at small vs. large matches and Bam Bam is a uniquely skilled big guy so it had a lot of potential.
Yep, I remember their match the night after Summerslam. Really weird because the night before, Yoko was a face in his pre-show match vs. (of all people) Stone Cold Steve Austin, the KotR who couldn't find his way onto the PPV itself (because 1996 WWF, I guess). Anyway, that match had the memorable finish of Yoko ripping the top turnbuckle from the ring during the Banzai drop and getting pinned. Cool spot, I was there live. Guess it freaked Yoko out because all of a sudden on the next night he had the unexplained heel turn and was back with Cornette. And once Shawn dispatched him, he was pretty much done with the WWF.
ReplyDeleteI'm just not sure who the guy is supposed to be appealing to. Guess Hall and Nash did the same thing in WCW but got it over somehow.
ReplyDeleteThey don't censor the middle finger, body parts, blood, hits to the head and bad words in the view discretion one.
ReplyDeleteThis was kinda clumsy but I'm glad Shawn and Diesel actually made up instead of being like "we are babyfaces now so we like each other" like they did with Ramon an Diesel.
ReplyDeleteBut he had the 5 count gimmick!
ReplyDeleteI was going to ask why Dusty never showed up on the show but since Steve was gone there was no point.
ReplyDeleteA Shawn/Bam Bam match never happened due to bad timing as Bam bam wasn't with the company for very long and both guys turned face at pretty much the same time, but yeah, it could have been a great match.
ReplyDeleteLOL @ "kind of a slam....HEGOTHIM!"
ReplyDeleteNow I've lost all respect for Bundy :(
He lost SO MUCH aura without Heenan as a mouthpiece, as well as Studd beside him. He also looked older and lacked the killer facials (such as his lack of shaved eyebrows during his 80s run).
ReplyDeleteI never understood the babyface logic either. Lets see, he gets punked out with a loss by a one-time appearance from an old football player, his corporation turns on him, and then he CRIES at a press conference. How is that someone fans get behind!?? Then they throw him a new outfit (with latex fire wings) and he shoots fireballs. WHAT THE FUCK VINCE.
ReplyDelete"Corner clothesline and blockbuster slam set up an STF, as Ramon tortures the poor jobber to amuse Savio Vega."
ReplyDeleteDon't know why this made me laugh so hard...but it did.
For inanimate opponents, I've always liked a Hefty bag full of squid bait and a statue of Andre the Giant made from cubes of ham.
ReplyDelete"I slammed that 900 pound stinky, greasy, Giant, brother!"
ReplyDeleteThe ham statue would probably speak clearer than Andre did.
ReplyDeleteYeah they should never let legit looking badass guys get turned into grinning babyfaces, because it usually kills their promos. Sid understood this.
ReplyDeleteIf there are NWO attacks AND there is blood, does it go back to color then?
ReplyDeleteI figured as much. I've just mostly watched them when stoned and falling asleep late at night.
ReplyDeleteQuite the clip there. You can tell he has a LOT of affection for him.
ReplyDeleteVince is a complex cat haha.
Thanks. I thought I had imagined that for a moment. Didn't Sid also job cleanly to Godwinn before wrapping up his run too?
ReplyDeleteHe jobbed on the houseshow run, not sure about tv.
ReplyDeleteHa ha awesome
ReplyDeleteA mischievous sort can be an appealing character which can get over with all sorts of fans, as long as it's via a solid performer. Piper in the 80s, Austin & Foley in the Attitude era (think of how they messed around with McMahon, albeit in different ways), the Outsiders as you mentioned, they all got over in a big way, and their sense of mischief was a factor in that.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying Shawn would have gotten over to that degree, but it would have been better than the milquetoast character that we got during his '96 run (though he was awesome in the ring during that stretch). He certainly stayed over in the 00s with a mischievous character, and it was appealing. Like I said before, it suited him well.
I've never enjoyed any babyface version of the HBK character. You could see the affection he had for the fans and the business but it never translated during promos and angles. He always threw a bit of humor in his matches to show he was having fun and that did translate. He was best on the mic when he was talking about he was the god of wrestling or just being an ass.
ReplyDeleteWell yeah, he has nothing to hide his babyfat.
ReplyDeleteSo your saying all people that have taken nude pics of themselves have had them shown on the internet?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what monolithic world YOU live but that sure as hell ain't true.
