Damien Mizdow

Hey Scott,

Interviewed Miz before WWE's house show in Huntsville this Saturday. It's easy to see why he's the go-to guy for media: barely breaks character, explains himself thoroughly, and says all the right things. But I did get his thoughts on Damien Mizdow, the downfall of the Intercontinental Championship, what he watches on the Network, and who catches his eye in NXT.

Thanks!

Yeah, certainly no one disputes that he's a great ambassador for the company.  I just wish he was just as committed to being better in the ring.

  1. I imagine a guy as dedicated as Miz works hard on improving in the ring, but lacks the talent to really get results.

  2. I agree. I think he wants to be better but he's just not a good enough athlete.

  3. Was hilarious on Monday when Damon Mizdow was copying the Miz being hurt after Miz took the zig zag.

  4. I think Miz would benefit from a change in moveset. He has a lot of moves that he doesn't execute well that he doesn't excise from his repetoire. When he works with guys that Austin calls the "perfect size" for wrestling (6', 230) like Dolph or Kofi he has more grounded matches that tell cleaner stories. If he works with someone who can't dance with him like Sheamus it's utter shit.

  6. The guy who answered those questions is an excellent heel who understands his character. Funny how that's better than the exact same guy trying to work in catchphrases that others write for him.

  7. He had made such amazing process right up until winning the big belt, but after that, he didn't just stagnate, but regressed. A lot.

Granted, the face-turn was horrible and completely inorganic, but there had to have been more to it. Stopped trying once he won the title and main-evented WM, burn-out, age, injuries, a combination of any or all... something happened.

I'm liking his current goofy heel character, but I miss angry, chip-on-his-shoulder Miz that was determined to take every single criticism he's ever received and shove it down the naysayers' throats. THAT guy was friggin' fantastic.

  8. Just another one of those guys that could really benefit from a creative team that could handle more than one storyline at once.

Dude is the best natural heel of his generation, if he had a Pat Patterson or a Paul Heyman that could work around his limitations he'd be a much bigger star.

  9. The Miz is the best now, in ring and character wise, that he's been since his title run. I just feel like he's too badly damaged goods to ever get there again, regardless of how hard he tries.

  10. I don't think it helps that WWE doesn't actually encourage workers to get any better. Maybe Miz could work an all out, high tempo style but he'd probably get punished for it under Vincelogic.

  11. I was a sportswriter for a while and got to do a similar kind of piece on R-Truth. It's amazing how well WWE does in training their guys to deal with the media.

  12. I'm not sure why Miz never got hooked up with the evil bosses as their midcard go-to guy. He's perfect for that role.
