Jericho/Fandango/wrestlemania

Scott.........1st of all let me say that I'm LOVING your raw rants!  I hope the network adds more soon so you can keep going!

I'm probably gonna switch to Nitro for a while to cleanse my palette anyway, or finish off the SNMEs.

Question - watched wrestlemania 29 on the network.  What in the world was up with Jericho jobbing to fandango in a feud based on jericho mispronouncing fandangos name???

Would you rather they fight over a shampoo commercial?

Was the WWE that high on fandango that he got a WM win over Jericho?

Yup.  He was supposed to win the IC title a couple of months later, in fact.

If so - why did they cool on him so fast?  I'm honestly surprised he's even still employed right now!

He probably is too.  Basically Vince got a new toy and he thought that "Fandango-ing" was going to take off like "Yes!" eventually did, and when it didn't he got bored of Fandango and jettisoned him as a top prospect following his concussion problems.  Out of sight, out of mind unfortunately is how it works.

Does Jericho have the stroke to refuse to do stuff like laying down to fandango?  Or is it a case where he just comes in every couple of years and does what's asked of him???

The second one.

Also - what a difference a year makes.  WM 29 is just filled from top to bottom with matched nobody wanted to see.........and is predictable as it comes.  WM 30 has fresh faces in fresh matches and the surprise of all surprises with the streak ending.  Would you agree???

Sure, but WM29 also made a shitload more money than WM30 did, even though it's not really an entirely fair comparison.  People might not have wanted to see Rock v. Cena II, but they sure ponied up $70 for it with no problem.

Also also - Jack Swagger vs Alberto del Rio at WM 29.........really????

#THANKSOBAMA

I don't know if that applies a lot but all the right wing wackjobs on my Facebook list seem to use it all the time, so maybe it fits here.

Comments

  1. I always thought #THANKSOBAMA was a meme that everyone used ironically.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Thought so too, and normally it is, but some people on my own FB friends list are so far to the right, they've circled back around and are coming back in from the left...well, anyway, they've co-opted it and use it in a serious manner now, so who in the hell knows?

    ReplyDelete
  3. How do we classify Fandango as a worker? Solid? Decent? Crappy?

    ReplyDelete
  4. I personally have never seen a Johnny Curtis match that I would classify as anything more than "decent".

    ReplyDelete
  5. I think there's a place for Fandango in WWE. You always need a few comedy acts.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Usually you form your own opinion about someone and then voice it to the group for discussion. I appreciate your candor in asking though!

    ReplyDelete
  7. "Not entirely a fair comparison" is a pretty huge understatement considering the Network is a completely different business model.

    ReplyDelete
  8. There problem with Jericho and his comebacks is that they are all generic. Look at his feud with Wyatt. They do a generic beatdown and both of them cut generic promos on each other. Jericho needs to have that creativity he had in 2008 if his attempts to get new guys over are ever going to stick.

    ReplyDelete
  9. You're welcome, you molester-of-boys!

    ReplyDelete
  10. What a giant waste of Jericho at Mania 29. Could have had a hot match against Ziggler or led the anti-Shield team.

    ReplyDelete
  11. The reason Fandango-ing didn't take off like they thought was because they Cool Dadded the shit out of it by making a video package and having the announcers talk about how hip it was, and how "THE WWE UNIVERSE IS HAVING BLAST, MAGGLE!"

    ReplyDelete
  12. Fandango: Vince got bored with it. That simple.

Jericho: I think it's more a case of Jericho settling into a Foley mode where he comes back to put over choice talent and overall just shake of the ring joneses before his next tour or TV appearance or whatever. Either way, it's commendable of him.

WM30 is definitely unFlair to compare to any of the others given the Network. What we're seeing more now isn't the whole smarks vs. marks thing...Summerslam 2013 might have been a financial flop but then the crowds in EVERY town were still screaming for Bryan afterwards right up until they HAD to have him win at Mania. I think we're truly seeing how America watches "entertainment" now, with this whole huge swath of the country watching RAW and ordering PPVs (including bars and movie theatres) purely because it's ON, it's something to mindless sit and watch...versus the much smaller percentage of actual wrestling FANS (us included) who watch out of love for it, buy tickets, merch, etc. Guaranteed WM29 made more money purely b/c this big chunk of the country just went "Dang, a movie star is rasslin, that's neat!"

    ReplyDelete
  13. He's inoffensive and a good guy to have in the midcard.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Plus it only started as fans trolling Raw after a shitty Mania. Nobody actually liked Fandango.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I think you might have me confused with another poster on here, or perhaps with a famous political favor whom I share the same name with. At any rate, that is not how you greet anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm sorry.

It's wonderful to see you, you great big ol' molester-of-boys!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Early rumours had Jericho going heel and putting over Ryback. Jericho's said he wasn't happy to have to work with Fandango but that's what Vince wanted and he was paid more than he expected which he thinks was Vince making it up to him.

  18. If I were your father that'd be an apt name for me. However, I am so far removed from your pedophilic family that statement holds no merit. If you must continue to use it I'll just ignore you and your obvious unresolved familial issues. Otherwise keep on trucking mile station survivor!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Have mercy, that was a good retort...if you're a molester-of-boys!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. So, it were a good retort if I were your daddy? Boy you aren't right in the head.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Nothing makes wrestling fans stop doing a thing quicker than the WWE acknowledging them doing that thing.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hey, at least I'm not a molester-of-boys, dude.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm not either. However, unlike yourself I'm also not a victim of a monstrous father who "told me if I told he'd kill me", like you are. Very glad of that, it must be hard for you to live in society with the feelings that's left you with. You should join the forums and tell your story so the healing can really begin.

    ReplyDelete
  24. That really struck a chord with me...you molester-of-boys.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Decent, he's nothing special.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I can support this new name for ole' Johnny.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hopefully, it'll catch on...because he's a molester-of-boys.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Fandango should've been WWE Champion by now.

    ReplyDelete
  29. HHH himself called Fandango " a good little talent." He is what he is.

    ReplyDelete
  30. LOOK HOW SOCIALLY RELEVANT WE ARE DAMMIT

    ReplyDelete
  31. Crap, I'm probably one of the right wing nutjobs he is referring to

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ah, another emailer with the "Nobody wanted to see WM 29", ignoring the buyrate of over a million. Gotta love it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. speaking of #thanksobama what happened to Parallax?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Weren't the same people complaining that WWE refused to acknowledge the YES chants after WM 28, and they sucked because they were trying to ignore it? But when they DO acknowledge it, then they make it lame, and they should just let the fans have it?

    WWE: WE CAN'T WIN.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Acknowledging the YES chants isn't lame, because YES isn't a lame chant.

Fandangoing was inherently lame because it was done facetiously. WWE trying to make it into an actual thing took the fun out of it.

    ReplyDelete
  36. That's the thing I never understood about WWE. If something is cool, it has to be organic, not shoved down our throats, and the uncool people cannot like it. For example, Adam Rose will not get over in its current format because it violates all 3.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Jericho's cage match on raw was awesome. Just saw that shit on YouTube. That's cool

    ReplyDelete
  38. Extant1979 - Ghetto SuperstarSeptember 10, 2014 at 7:08 PM

He's taking a break. He'll be back eventually.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Adam Rose's entrance music could have gotten over if they hadn't had Michael Cole singing along with it like a goddamn tool.

Or maybe not. But I can't imagine Cole singing along would help.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I liked the idea of Fandango more than I liked the act itself. I would have loved to have seen a HTM run with the IC title, in which he just gets the ever-loving shit kicked out of him, but still manages to hang onto the belt through hook or by crook. Really make people want to see him beat, and make all the midcarders obsessed with being the one to beat him.

If they'd done this last year and kept the run going, they could have really kickstarted Reigns by having him demolish Fandango this summer and take the title, Ultimate Warrior style.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think it was a case of Jericho seeing potential in Fandango and thinking he could help him out by doing a program with him.

It kinda worked. They had two solid matches, and Fandango had that stretch where the fans--ironically or not--were with him a little. He had some traction.

But after the Jericho feud he didn't do much.

I'll always be a Jericho fan but he's been basically useless since the Ziggler feud in 2012.

    ReplyDelete
  42. It's kind of like YOLO in that it was used nonironically for a very short period of time, then blew up huge due to people rebelling against it and using it ironically.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Did you honestly enjoy that show?

    ReplyDelete
  44. He still got to put over Ryback on ppv!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Extant1979 - Ghetto SuperstarSeptember 10, 2014 at 7:20 PM

Nothing, as far as I know.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Very true, but it did open up an opportunity for them to really try something with Fandango. People were paying attention and the guy has this really creepy, kinda sexual, charisma to him. Not saying he would've been a main event character, but something off the beaten path.

Instead Cole "cool-dadded" the shit out of it

    ReplyDelete
  47. I think he's pretty good, but rarely gets a chance to do anything.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yes. And I ponied up $30 to see it at the theatre, and I felt like I got my money's worth. But hey, "nobody" wanted to see it, amirite?

He watches anything they tell him to watch with a smile and a boner.

    ReplyDelete
  50. or maybe I just look for the positives, instead of doing everything in my power to find things wrong with a product. I know, it's a crazy way to view the world.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Virgil's Gimmick TableSeptember 10, 2014 at 7:52 PM

I keep my expectations low so that when something awesome happens, it's REALLY fucking awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  52. What did you enjoy? What worked for you?

I didn't like it very much, but I loved Taker vs Punk, and Fandango's entrance

    ReplyDelete
  53. HEY.

That's MISTER Right Wing Nutjob to you!

    ReplyDelete
  54. The opening six-man, Swagger-DelRio and Jericho-Fandango were all fine. HHH/ Lesnar was genuinely very good, as was Taker-Punk and Rock-Cena 2 cut out the fat from their previous match and consequently was much better IMHO. Certainly not one of the great Wrestlemanias, but fine for what it was.

    ReplyDelete
  55. He mispronounced Fandangos name???!!!! Gosh, is there no end to Jerichos boundless creativity!?

    ReplyDelete
  56. If you posted an angry rant about how terrorists may be doing something on September 11 and Obama's response was to open up the Mexican border and how that proved he should be impeached, then yes, I'm referring to you.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I was at 29 and I had a good time. Punk and Lesnar jobbing sucked but I enjoyed Punk v. Taker and Cena v. Rock

    ReplyDelete
  58. HHHH v. Lesnar is awful

    ReplyDelete
  59. How is it awful, exactly? I get that the result was an issue, but I really don't get the hate for the match itself.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I was there and that match sucked the life out of the crowd and then some. It's just dull. You never believe HHH is in any danger, there's a lot of resting and HHH has Brock Lesnar in a submission hold for about 10 years

    ReplyDelete
  61. Yikes, its worse on my feed. I've got people that SWEAR he's a Kenyan Muslim who is literally out to destroy this very nation.

And then they talk about Bush Jr. like he was the greatest thing ever. Never mind the fact that Bush caused all the problems that Obama has spent literally his entire presidency trying to fix...

...and then I remember your Canadian, and the worst you have to worry about is Rob Ford.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I'm convinced you're going to end up insane because everyone is complaining about something.

You must go nuts reading film reviews.

    ReplyDelete
  63. It was a bit plodding in places, but I wouldn't call it dull. Oh well, agree to disagree and all that!

    ReplyDelete
  64. hard to compare buyrates with the network happpening this year That said, while WM29 got a million buys it was a huge disappointment for what Vince and company were hoping for buyrate wise. I'd also argue that WM is guaranteed 800k no matter what the card. It's an event now, not a show you buy based on matchups. Anything after that can be based on who's working with who.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Fair enough. Hooray for civil discussion!

    ReplyDelete
  66. yes the right wing nutjobs trying to convince everyone that bush did a great job in Iraq and none of this is his fault would be entertaining if it wasn't so sad.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Damn, great idea.

    ReplyDelete
  68. How on Earth wasn't the WM29 card the following:

    - Rock/Cena for the WHC
    - Punk/Taker for the WWE title
    - ADR/Swagger for the US title

    ... ?

    ReplyDelete
  69. I also have Val Venis on my friends list and he's pretty tiresome sometimes too. Pot and libertarianism for all!

I did everything in town for Mania 29 weekend EXCEPT go to Mania. I wasn't sitting out in the cold for that shit show. I watched from home and it was terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  71. CruelConnectionNumber2September 11, 2014 at 3:07 PM

HHH/Lesnar BLOWS more than Jenna Jameson with a satchel of coke.

    ReplyDelete
  72. You sound like you've had a bad day.

    ReplyDelete
  73. The next time Jericho comes back, I'd like to see him rehab the IC title. It's great that he wants to put over new guys, but someone needs to put over that title. Win it the first night back. Defend it every week. Then lose it three months later in a brutal match to a new guy (Sami Zayn).
