Quality Control!

OK, so I was following the bitchfest in the news update, and some of you might have a point with regards to stuff.  The forum is terrible as it stands and I was using it because it’s embeddable in Blogger, but it serves no purpose as is, so I’ve created a new one to try out for a couple of weeks.

http://rspwfaq.boards.net

Obviously there’s nothing there at the moment and to be brutally honest I don’t have the time or desire to moderate and deal with it, so if any of my crew would like to handle it, let me know and I’ll get you set up.

As for the other point about too much stuff clogging up the main page, yes, I hear you.  Option 1 would be someone handling article scheduling and admin stuff, and if anyone wants that job I’m more than happy to give it to them.  Option 2 is offloading things to the other Blogger page I still own at scottkeith.blogspot.ca, at which point I would create a sub-domain off rspwfaq.com and the B-Team could post there to their heart’s delight.  Either option works for me.

Open to discussion of all this here!

  1. I can format a schedule for when posts go up if you want

    ReplyDelete
  2. Just want to say that it's really cool that you saw the complaints and you are addressing it and willing to deal with it. Really cool of you.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I second this option.

Anyone wanting to add stuff to the schedule goes through Bayless, and Bayless has proven himself the most qualified man around.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I think Andy's RAW review, which is the big draw on the blog after the show ends, getting buried under several posts is uh, not best for business

    ReplyDelete
  5. I normally post my stuff early on Thursday morning, but I'm open to whatever. I write, I hope that people enjoy it, and I hope that it improves if you all don't.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I suppose you could just make it so that other posters submit drafts to you and you publish them to public.

Surely there is a blogger setting for that

    ReplyDelete
  7. Even telling someone to schedule it for a certain time should work.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yeah, making others post in the other page might offend them too

I know I'm not a Bayless or an Andy but I'll throw my hat in the ring to mod/work on the forum. I have always thought a forum would be great for this community to explore topics not necessarily on the front page, also there's less chance a discussion will get buried in 500 posts. I'll do my best not to get drunk with power or have a meltdown, at least for the first six months.

I really like the idea of setting up a B-show blog as well. It's not a huge pain in the ass to scroll down but honestly reviews and topics seem to get buried pretty fast here.

Yeah, good idea, if there was a way to get on a schedule and space the posts out that would be for the best rather than a separate blog/page.

  12. I am the Brian Adams of the BoD

    ReplyDelete
  13. They make another page and you have to write BOD Raw and the debuting BOD Smackdown.

    ReplyDelete
  14. And THAT'S coming from an architect marine biologist!

    ReplyDelete
  15. And Chin and Dougie have to go to BOD ECW.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Oddly enough, 9 minutes after this was posted someone put up a review of NWA Saturday night

I really, really hope you aren't talking about the Canadian singer Brian Adams. Because that would make me sad and hate you.

  18. There is an option that combines the best of both worlds here in some ways - use the second blog for most of us writers to go to (yes, I'm including myself here), and once a day, Bayless does a quickie news update type deal over what's going on over there. Who's writing, what they're writing, etc. That way, the main page stays unclogged, and the secondary page gets updated on a schedule; us secondary writers all still get some play on the main page without too many posts, and Bayless only has to do one post a day on this stuff to lighten his workload.

    Thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Why stop there? We have BOD Raw and BOD Smackdown. Naturally we gots to have BOD Heat and BOD Velocity. You are gonna be a busy man.

    ReplyDelete
  22. All I care about is that Bayless still posts on the main page

    ReplyDelete
  23. I would also like to throw my hat in the ring for a forum mod.

I've been following Keith since 411mania. I wanted a new heel for my fed, so, I decided to go to 411wrestling, which is what they called 411mania in those days. So I typed a search into AskJeeves, which was the style at the time. Now, to use the search engine you had to type a question, and in those days, search engines had pictures of butlers on 'em. "What is the latest WWF news?" you'd say.

Oh thank god, I should have been tipped off you spelt his anime with an I instead of a y. I think even a Canadain such as Scott Keith denounces Bryan Adams.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I could write out the schedule of posts for that day on the site and provide a link.

    ReplyDelete
  26. He is like America's version of Richard Marx

    ReplyDelete
  27. I've posted on a schedule since I started writing for Scott and I can assure you it makes things far easier. I know what needs to go up because I've done it the same way for years. It would simplify quite a bit and keep things from getting as cluttered as they are.

I'd also prefer it over a secondary page as some people are bound to miss something they might want to see.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Seriously though, if you wanted to make the "other" page have some luster to it....bring back Caliber and have him be the featured writer for the "other" page. That would put butts in seats.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yeah, something along those lines. Just sort of a daily "Over on the B team today we've got....." type thing. You could do all sorts of things, including spotlight posts from one blog to the other if the content is really decent, trying out more new writers, having some of us write more (I'm itching to write a bit more, but once a week has worked for me so far), seeing who belongs on the main page, etc. Don't get me wrong, I like the exposure of posting on the main page, but whatever makes the blog happier, the better.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yes, you do have a schedule. I forgot about that. Nitro Wednesdays and Thunder Saturdays along with NXT and impact.

And like you said, it is so much easier

If WWE Creative has taught us anything, it's that suck off the right main eventers and you will get an hour's worth of airtime on RAW.

Er, wait, I meant too many cooks in the kitchen spoil the broth. Let's filter it like a Vince Russo creative session.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yep. If everyone else was on a similar schedule, it could make things a lot simpler and less hectic around here.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yeah, i kinda feel bad if someone has to post only on the other page.

But if that is the case, I will make sure to tell people each day what was on the page

    ReplyDelete
  35. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomerySeptember 4, 2014 at 12:52 AM

    What's that on the table?

Nothing. Not a cent left on that table.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Building the schedule around you and Bayless would make it easy since you guys already have established schedules anyways.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I do that now as does Logan. Easy for me too to write

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think with an established schedule that there is enough room for everybody on the main site. But without a schedule there will be some times where 4 things get posted in a row and are lost while some days there is nothing for extended periods.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think so too. There is enough time in the day to spread it out so it will work

    ReplyDelete
  40. Someone? Fuck it says my name right on the post line :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Yeah, I feel that, and I'm not trying to argue my way off the main page or anything, but at the end of the day, this is a wrestling blog. This is supposed to be FUN. You write because you want to write, and if you need the validation of a bunch of people you've never met over their differing opinion on a wrestling blog, I worry for you, you know? To put it another way - Scott gave me posting privileges. I appreciated it, I try not to abuse it, and if there's constructive criticism to be had, I take it to heart; but I still do this because I enjoy it. You should be able to as well, without the aggro that comes with people arguing over how clogged the main page is. I just think it's unfair to put too much on you. No reason to feel bad, brother.

  42. My iPhone makes it so I have to scroll down to the end of the post to see who was the author.

*kicks your hat out of the ring ala Brock*

Well one time Farva said "he (SK) seems to like you" so I got that going for me which is nice.

Seriously though, whoever gets it, what should be the boards on the forum. Of course boards like WWE, TNA, ROH, Japan, UFC but also Television, Movies, Video Games, maybe just do one collective board for "real" sports and possible a board for real life topics. Anything I'm missing? Should be added?

  46. NO He's not. Richard Marx is a brilliant pop song writer. He's written No. 1 songs in four different decades...to quote Sidney Deane, Adams couldn't hold Marx's jockstrap in a suitcase.

Is this going to turn into a mod fight? Do I have time to grab some popcorn?

    ReplyDelete
  48. His own music was similar to Adams. Dude cranked out pop hits in the 80's

    ReplyDelete
  49. Um, excuse me sir but there's a little rule on the internet called "first" and that's me. First member, first post. Truly the greatest poster in the history ect.

Your ideas are good. Probably add a sub for the BOD Raw stuff too.

When the best album you put out is Repeat Offender you have nothing to be proud of.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm partial to Rush Street. "Hazard" is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I petitioned for it to be my wedding song but husband rightfully reminded me it was about a murder investigation and that wouldn't be a good omen.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Magoonie NOT Teddy BelmontSeptember 4, 2014 at 1:23 AM

Your husband made the right call, I remember the music video and yeah, that imagery wouldn't be best for a wedding song. Good job on not petitioning for Right Here Waiting, it's a nice song and all but man is it played out being used for couples wedding songs. If you don't mind me asking, what did the two of you settle on?

  53. Fuck anyone complaining about free content. It blows my mind. Entitled douche bags that you have to give a few extra clicks, Fuck you.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I can't speak for everyone but it seems like a lot of people's issue is that some stuff that they would *like* to read and discuss gets lost because of stuff crowding the main page. Not that all this content is there, but that a lot of times the discussion leaves the post quickly because new stuff gets posted.

    ReplyDelete
  55. That I can understand. People complaining about unwanted content reeks of cuntiness

    ReplyDelete
  56. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomerySeptember 4, 2014 at 1:49 AM

This. I don't mind the amount of content, it's that sometimes six things get posted within the same hour and I want the main, everyday threads to be the most active. Andy's PG Raw Rant shouldn't be the fourth item down on the front page post-RAW

    ReplyDelete
  57. In the earlier thread Scott referred to, it definitely got a little bitchy.

But in this post it's had a lot of people(including writers from the site) offering up ways to address these concerns and just help improve the site overall.

There's definitely room for everyone that posts to continue doing so. But the site could also use a more organized infrastructure to organize what gets posted when so stuff doesn't get buried.

Even if I don't read every review religiously, I like having them because they can be interesting to read and also spark conversation.

  58. I DARE YOU, BLOG OF DOOM, TO THROW ME OFF THE AIR!

Good luck trying to replace those 74 page clicks that my SSW articles bring in!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Why not just have the most active/highly commented posts for the day at the top of the page?

    ReplyDelete
  60. I just saw a lot of posts shitting on content providers, by name. Like this blog owes them anything.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Option two for me.

The only other posts I want to see on the main page are Bayless' daily updates. They provide a great place for news and chat about the latest goings on.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I don't. Honestly half the posts here are unneeded.

    ReplyDelete
  63. For complainers about too much content (???), I use the RSS feed and Sage in firefox. it notifies me if something new goes up, but also just lists articles to the left of my main browsing area. No problems skipping what I don't like and reading who/what I want

    ReplyDelete
  64. the B-Team could post there to their heart’s delight.

    BURRRIED Daniel Bryan #CENAWINSLOL

  65. It would make sense for one guy to write about a specific show.
eg: Andy reviews RAW, Matt does Main Event, Thomas does SmackDown & Scott does the PPVs and retro recaps etc.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Stranger in the Alps vs Bayless for the dubious honor of replacing Stevie Ray.

This could be the greatest WCW Thunder main event of all time, folks. On the greatest night in the history of our sport.
