Roman Reigns Undergoes Emergency Surgery, Likely Out Of Night Of Champions

Source

It's on WWE.com.  Apparently he had something called an incarcerated hernia.  No word on how long he's out for.

Comments

  1. Here's the missing episode of Nitro. It's not there in the menu for some reason but the link still works:

  2. Well good thing WWE did the Reigns v. Rollins match on RAW. Smart booking, Vince.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Wrestling Observer included a link to "What is an incarcerated hernia?". Sounds like no joke: http://www.wisegeek.org/what-is-an-incarcerated-hernia.htm

    ReplyDelete
  4. ...Well, kinda was.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Maybe that's why Reigns has always worn full-body attire, the guy has a protruding lump the size of a tennis ball beneath his belly button.

    Shoulda got that checked, nigga.

    ReplyDelete
  6. They are making a statement on the WWE Network at 1pm EST

    ReplyDelete
  7. More importantly, how am I supposed to enjoy the PPV without Reigns wrestling on it? Huh?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Well at least Dean is coming back at the right time now.

    Get well Roman.

    ReplyDelete
  9. When was the last time a wrestler had to pull out of a ppv the weekend of it (no Benoit/pillman answers)?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Off the top of my head, Benoit and Pillman.

Huh, now that make his match with Rollins on Monday seem more convenient.

    ReplyDelete
  12. My guess is that they announce a mystery replacement against Rollins for NoC, and it turns out to be Ambrose.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Gunther the Nasty LoserSeptember 20, 2014 at 10:43 AM

Reigns got a hernia from the obvious strain of being the one designated to carry WWE on his back into the future.

    ReplyDelete
  14. "Yep Mode" ABeyAnce1©September 20, 2014 at 10:44 AM

Hope he gets better, and on the bright side, at least it'll let the fans enjoy him more when he gets back.

    ReplyDelete
  15. It's not that it's ignored, divas are very hard to come by. You'll very lucky to have a SR

  16. All right already, Pete Positivity.

Reigns: Doc, is it serious? Do I really need to get emergency surgery?
    Doc: Believe that.

Reigns: I see what you did there.

The infamous great American bash smackdown ppv comes to mind. A good handful of guys had to pull out due to elevated enzyme's I think it was.

Can't wait till 411 has this as exclusive breaking news sometime this evening.

    Good use of the network

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm right around 400. Was as high as 250 yesterday. Really not playing that much. I'm justgetting my energy cards for KOTR.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Gunther the Nasty LoserSeptember 20, 2014 at 10:48 AM

Wasn't this the redesign they tried earlier in the year that failed miserably, and they explained it away as "beta testing"?

    ReplyDelete
  26. How is it that a fit dude like Reigns gets a hernia that requires emergency surgery, and fat guys like Bubba Dudley and Mick Foley never did?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Gunther the Nasty LoserSeptember 20, 2014 at 10:51 AM

They had better deliver Ambrose, otherwise there's a chance that the casual fan isn't going to care about the implicit "card subject change" and might demand a refund.

    ReplyDelete
  30. That's the first thing I thought of when reading it

    ReplyDelete
  31. Gunther the Nasty LoserSeptember 20, 2014 at 10:53 AM

    "I FEEL BAD!"

    ReplyDelete
  32. God dang Hernias! Incarcerate them all, I say.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Gunther the Nasty LoserSeptember 20, 2014 at 10:55 AM

    I agree.

I mean, I know some hernias, I'm friends with some hernias, but facts are facts.

Hernia: "Nobody knoooooows....the trouble I've seen...."

*rattles tin can on the bars*

    ReplyDelete
  36. Fucking lazy, shiftless hernias.

    ReplyDelete
  37. By and large, when there's problems, you'll find a hernia near by.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Souled Out 2000 had a card which was drastically reshuffled at the last minute. Jarrett and Bret were pulled for concussion issues which led to their opponents Benoit and Sid wrestling for a held up heavyweight title and Kidman taking on the Revolution in a "Theater of Pain" gauntlet.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The more interesting thing about Heenan's reaction is that Hogan's heel turn effectively turned Heenan into a face. While heel turns usually caused the heel announcer to become a fan of the new heel, Heenan's hatred of Hogan precluded him from cheering Hogan because that hatred ran too deep.
Hogan's heel turn killed the Bobby "The Brain" Heenan character.

LOL, the Punk doc is on the Network right now.

"Shit, we want people to see the big announcement, but not remind them that Punk exists. Who booked this schedule?!"

    ReplyDelete
  41. Stranger in the AlpsSeptember 20, 2014 at 10:58 AM

I figured they would totally interrupt the CM Punk doc.....just out of spite.

  43. Magoonie NOT Teddy BelmontSeptember 20, 2014 at 10:58 AM

Sucks for Reigns, hope he has a fast recovery. It shows how weak the upper Midcard/main event scene is though when you can take just one guy put and it really shows.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Right onto Matt's face.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Gunther the Nasty LoserSeptember 20, 2014 at 10:59 AM

Is that Lars Frederickson dude some cult (not Cult) punk (and Punk) icon? He's all over the Punk doc, plus I've seen Zayn wearing his shirts.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Eh kind of a freak condition has to do with intestines more than anything, fitness level had nothing to do with it.

    ReplyDelete
  47. ...That's kind of a weird logic you're using. If you take a big player out of the equation and it leaves a gaping hole, doesn't it mean that the company actually has big, important players?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Magoonie NOT Teddy BelmontSeptember 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM

I may be out of line here but maybe we should set up some camps for the hernias. Round all the hernias up and put them in these camps. Hell, even give the hernias free showers. It's a good solution.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Dean returning will help.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Stranger in the AlpsSeptember 20, 2014 at 11:01 AM

From the band Rancid. Punk music. It fits because Punk himself is a fan of that genre.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Gunther the Nasty LoserSeptember 20, 2014 at 11:01 AM

It's 1 PM. It would be awesome if there really was a "breaking news" bumper.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Was that the ppv that was supposed to have them wrestling 3x?

    ReplyDelete
  53. They have to deliver Ambrose right? The crowd would go insane. Watch it end up being Rollins cutting a promo instead.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Gunther the Nasty LoserSeptember 20, 2014 at 11:03 AM

I know who he is, and I *do* know why he's there (Razor), I was just surprised to see shirts for him in particular. Didn't know if he was a solo artist, too.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Magoonie NOT Teddy BelmontSeptember 20, 2014 at 11:03 AM

My logic was more in line with there being nobody anywhere close to that level to fill that hole. It just doesn't seem like anybody is big enough to fill that hole. They need to start building guys up so they can be big enough to fill the hole when the time is right. I mean, that hole needs a good filling and nobody seems big enough to do the job.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Magoonie NOT Teddy BelmontSeptember 20, 2014 at 11:04 AM

Is Dean finished shooting his movie? I thought he had another week.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Man, hernias in general suck. If this one was incarcerated, it must have done some nasty shit already.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Gunther the Nasty LoserSeptember 20, 2014 at 11:04 AM

Where is this announcement on the Network?

    ReplyDelete
  59. At this point, if they weren't going to, they have to now. If Ambrose shows up and destroys Rollins for 10 minutes straight, the crowd will love it.

    ReplyDelete
  60. He's done with it today.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Exertion and heavy lifting can cause hernias.

    ReplyDelete
  62. "Fear not. Cena survives."

    ReplyDelete
  63. Everything I've read says he was finishing it this week. They can get him to the PPV in time.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Geez...that sounds nasty.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Magoonie NOT Teddy BelmontSeptember 20, 2014 at 11:06 AM

Ah OK, cool, then yeah bring him in to wrestle Rollins at NoC.

    ReplyDelete
  66. But that's like saying "Stone Cold's out with an injury and there's nobody near his level to fill the void". The problem doesn't lie with the company... in fact it's not a problem, the point is that one guy is so much more over than the rest.

That being said, Reigns' absence is NOT a big deal. One meaningless match on a PPV that's worth less than ten bucks isn't going to happen. That's all it means.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Gunther the Nasty LoserSeptember 20, 2014 at 11:07 AM

LOL, I think the right hand of the Network doesn't know what the left hand of WWE.com is doing.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Virgil's Gimmick TableSeptember 20, 2014 at 11:07 AM

If only John Holmes was still alive. He could give that hole a good filling.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I thought it fit since Heenan had been calling Hogan a liar for , what, 15 years? The announcers shot him down and I actually thought it added to the moment watching it the first time.

It is definitely one of those things that seem like a giveaway more in retrospect.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Good to hear they caught it in time before he, y'know died.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Well... the word 'good' is bandied around a lot... its use comes down to personal taste...

    ReplyDelete
  72. Agreed. I like that Heenan basically turned face because of Hogan. His hate of Hogan stayed true.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Rollins: I guess Roman wasn't up to the heavy lifting it takes to beat me. I'm bored with him! I issue an open challenge, the winner of which will get my brief-

I tired welcoming her, and saying goodbye to her.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Agree with the other posters, it would have been odder if Heenan was on Hogan's side, "Thank god, he's here" type thing. His call there is people complaining for the sake of complaining...or...Internet

    ReplyDelete
  81. As terrible of a thought as this is, that's actually good for Roman; let him heal up and get back to 100%, and also take him off TV for a bit to make sure the fans don't get sick of him.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I pictured Reigns lying on his apartment floor like Joey Tribbiani.
    "DAMN YOU, FIFTEENS!"

    ReplyDelete
  83. They're just going to replay the match from Raw

    ReplyDelete
  84. That's what a hernia gets for traveling to Cobb County, GA

Yeah, it could save his face turn.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Gunther the Nasty LoserSeptember 20, 2014 at 11:18 AM

While waiting for the announcement on the Network that's obviously not coming, and watching the Punk doc, I realize that Matt Striker got so bad at the end that even when they might be showing some of his time when he was good on commentary, I still cringe a bit b/c his voice is so synonymous with suckage at the end.

    ReplyDelete
  87. The nWo in general did this, as they were 'beyond' being merely heels and were threats to the entire company. Both faces and heels in WCW banded together to stop them.

Of course, when the nWo took over for 'nWo Nitro,' Heenan was right on board, happily chirping about how much he liked the nWo and was eager to be part of the broadcast team. The next week he just shows up for work like nothing had happened, and Tony and Larry had hilarious disgusted looks on their faces.

    ReplyDelete
  88. ...it'd probably work

    ReplyDelete
  89. This is one of those cases where WCW's tendency to never give the announcers the actual results of the match hurt, since had they said, "hey, Hogan's the third man, keep it quiet" you can bet they all would've played along.

    ReplyDelete
  90. "Yep Mode" ABeyAnce1©September 20, 2014 at 11:20 AM

Reminds me of the time they replayed Johnny Nitro vs CM Punk from Vengeance on ECW.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Maybe going away for a while will be good for his character.

But in reality, probably not. Thank goodness Dean is returning,

    ReplyDelete
  92. Isn't this what slowly derailed Ahmed's career?

    ReplyDelete
  93. From Meltzer:

"If you tuned to the WWE Network at 1 p.m. for the Roman Reigns update, they are instead showing the C.M. Punk video of all things.

    We'll update shortly.

We do know that one of the changes in plans they were working on fell through."

    ReplyDelete
  94. People aren't paying for PPVs though, they're paying for a monthly network. Would a refund be for 1/30th of their September bill?

    ReplyDelete
  95. Sucking, not being able to talk, injuring opponents then later on eating a galaxy didn't help him either, but injuries were a big part.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Gunther the Nasty LoserSeptember 20, 2014 at 11:28 AM

I was thinking more the live crowd. That's why I mentioned the Cena/house show thing.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I for one enjoyed his "YOU'RE GOING DOWN!" chants.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Gunther the Nasty LoserSeptember 20, 2014 at 11:29 AM

But it might be salvaged, in which case Meltzer will report it unless it falls through

    ReplyDelete
  99. He will now be viewed as an injury risk and his rocket push will be stalled. Brock beats Cena tomorrow and Castries the title until losing it to The Rock at Mania. Rock announces his retirement the next night. A tournament is held for the title, won by Cena where he beats Bray Wyatt.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Ahem, it was "Yub Gunna Dunn."

    ReplyDelete
  101. Rollins versus his surprise opponent... Kofi Kingston.

    ReplyDelete
  102. So, why is it edited out now? Don't want to give it away??

    ReplyDelete
  103. Dying would have done wonders for his popularity.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I don't begrudge anyone posting what they want or asking Keith what they want...but there is not a single wrestling-related discussion/argument that I'm more tired of than Heenan's BatB line. Not a one. Everyone's had their opinion, no one has changed theirs in the 18 years since.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I really hope he's fine, I had the same problem when I was 6.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Gunther the Nasty LoserSeptember 20, 2014 at 11:39 AM

    Great hair?

    ReplyDelete
  107. Hernia, almost died.

    ReplyDelete
  108. In hindsight it was probably a good idea to do the match on RAW...

    ReplyDelete
  109. But how was your hair?

    ReplyDelete
  110. Yikes. That sucks. All right just do the Honky-Warrior SS '88 ("get me somebody to wrestle!!) angle, and push Ambrose to the moon.

    ReplyDelete
  111. He was really bad but I fucking loved Ahmed as a kid.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Ventura was right about Hogan.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Nope. Heenan could have easily just bagged on Hogan showing up late, looking to steal the glory. They were going for shock, and that line undercuts it.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I LOVED that bit. Classic Heenan.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Heenan did the same thing when Sting returned at Uncensored. Tony and Dusty just no-sold it. WCW could have written the finish on the wrestling mat and I wouldn't have believed it. Honestly, how many people actually thought Hogan was coming down to turn heel?

    ReplyDelete
  116. that sounds about right

    ReplyDelete
  117. Agreed. I loved his story about how Bischoff wanted him to shill some stupid million dollar giveaway promotion and got into an argument over it. Pissed off, Tony just whored the hell out of it the entire show to make a point. After, Bischoff praised him for doing such a great job.

    ReplyDelete
  118. In his defense, WCW booking would drive anyone to crawl into a bottle.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Don't use any energy cards for the 45 qualifying rounds. You'll need them all for the tournament itself.

    ReplyDelete
  120. That's not what I mean. I see the specific "Diamond Legendary" cards for People's Champion, and I see that the background moves when you pro a card.

But on legendary and epic cards that aren't pro'd yet, the character picture moves independent of the background when you move your phone.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Yeah, I got that reward for finishing second in the KOTR (which I did in my sleep). When I won the thing before, I got two SR Cesaro cards which I was OK with... but if you pro them correctly, they end up better than a regular maxed out card at the next level.

    ReplyDelete
  122. I'm rolling with a perfect SR Pro Cesaro, a perfect R Pro Rollins, maxed SR Big Show, maxed UR Flair, and maxed SR Nikki.

Also, McMahon is a total fuck when it comes to Charisma.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Good point. Still it was weird seeing Heenan go from excusing the behavior of the heels to becoming Goldberg's biggest fan.

    ReplyDelete
  124. As a guy who used to collect basketball cards over 15 years ago... I'm getting that same feeling when I see that Diamond Legendary Brock card.

    ReplyDelete
  125. On the 2002 and 2012 NWO sets, the match is a bonus feature, and both of them have the line intact, plus Nash and Hall beating up the fan that ran into the ring (which was cut from WCW's home video release of the show).

    ReplyDelete
  126. Looks like they're trying to be like WhatCulture and Bleacher Report.

    ReplyDelete
  127. SuperBrawl V proves that he had been crawling inside a whiskey bottle for at least a year and a half by that point.

  129. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomerySeptember 20, 2014 at 1:20 PM

BUT WHAT SIDE IS SCOTT ON

    ReplyDelete
  130. No unfortunately. His tongue cancer is thought to be from long term drinking

    ReplyDelete
  131. Huh, you'll get killed if you let your energy run out. I get 5 for every match, if i have time, or am about to face someone with a good record.

Are you thinking of the boost cards. I only use those in the final tournament.

    ReplyDelete
  132. I never got this. Heenan is a heel, so he's supposed to question all the faces. We all knew he hated Hogan, so I just treated this as a "Who can be trusted?" type deal, which went with what Heenan had been saying about Hogan for more than a decade.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Even more than "Was Montreal a work?" Or "Should we still like Benoit's matches?"

    ReplyDelete
  134. Was Heenan even aware of it in the first place? I know they kept announcers in the dark about a lot of stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Anyone want to re-book the Invasion?

    ReplyDelete
  136. Exactly. If anything, had Heenan started praising and thanking god for Hogan, *THAT* would have given it away. I felt it was 100% in character for him to say that, and it didn't bother me one bit when I saw it 'live'.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Boost or energy... don't use them until the qualifying rounds are over. All you have to do is make the tournament. You don't have to be the #1 seed. Swap out your guys and take a few loses (if your backups aren't up to snuff). This was MUCH harder before they increase the "recovery" of your benched guys, and the method still worked.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Word is that Christian will lose a retirement match against Rollins Sunday to end his in-ring career. Except Edge to also make an appearance. I imagine this all culminates at Mania this year when they resign The Dudleys and The Hardys for one last TLC match. I'm expecting a Legends themed show this year with Brock vs Rock and Cena vs Hogan getting the main events treatment.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Was Starrcade 97 the biggest blown opportunity in wrestling?

    ReplyDelete
  140. At that point they were pinching pennies everywhere they could. I think it's JJ Dillon who talks about it in his shoots in good detail. The WWF went through some real tough times.

    ReplyDelete
  141. You'll gonna get killed when you get to the UR Kotr. People put commoms on there bench and use UR pros and Epic card. I've even seen Pro Epics. The only way to make the finals and get a pair is to do the same. You can't just swap guys out. It took me awhile to figure this out. I just started Epic Kotr and it's just as bad.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Wasn't that he was "cut" per se, if I remember right he was working a per show basis and was kind of a free agent as he was doing WCW,ECW, Japan and probably Mexico that year.

They just had nothing long term for him, never worked out a longterm contrsct and yea kind of blew the chance at keeping one of the most interesting and innovative wrestlers of the mid 90's

    ReplyDelete
  143. Sheik throwing the fireball at the end was so great. He also took that bump too after Sabu's dive

    ReplyDelete
  144. He was only making $500 per match and left when ECW offered more. Sabu was not under a written contract with WCW

    ReplyDelete
  145. I have a hunch that most people who said that Heenan ruined the surprised likely weren't watching it live and are reacting to it while already knowing what was to come. Just a guess.

    ReplyDelete
  146. It's the one gaping hole in the nWo storyline that never got addressed- why didn't Heenan get in the ring, state that he'd been telling people for years that Hogan was no good, and that now he was going to help WCW as a good guy?

    ReplyDelete
  147. Heenan had actually used the exact same line previously when Hogan had done run-ins.

I'm sure no one's suspicions were aroused by Heenan that night.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Incarcerated hernia, so yeah, groin.

    ReplyDelete
  149. And why is Christian suddenly showing up on a B PPV and putting his career on the line? I call shenanigans.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Or a big Orson Welles fan.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Just a quick fix and a good way to get a guy a great moment in the sun. Should be compelling stuff. I'm looking forward to it.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Simpsons did a clash of clans event? I wonder how it stacks up to the actual Clash of Clans game play.

    ReplyDelete
  153. I didn't have time to play for a couple of weeks and came back to ladder rewards and the PCC. My main team is a super rare Paige, an ultra rare Cesaro and super rare pros Batista and Andre (only one maxed out). My 5th card varies as I try to max out my other cards but stay at the same level. Right now it's a maxed out rare Christian.
I still play the Simpsons game daily but the game crashes more and more as CoC goes on.

    ReplyDelete
  154. He more than makes up for it though by defeating every heel in a cage match with randy savage, and beating Vader, by having FLAIR job. . .

    ReplyDelete
  155. 2 Things:

    A) Anyone who knows history knows that Heenan ALWAYS suspected Hogan of wrong doing and was his greatest critic. He said things like that ALL THE TIME and it simply goes to reason that he would suspect Hogan as a possible turncoat. If anything, it would be raise an eyebrow more if he DIDN'T say anything....

    B) If people needed Heenan saying that to suspect it COULD be Hogan, then I have some stock I'd like to sell them.

  156. I get where people are coming from... but no. He didn't give it away, he was in character. It's exactly the kinda thing Bobby would say and Dusty and Tony's reaction are exactly what some dreamy eyed screwball through and through Hulkamanaics would say... turns out the Brain was right again.

  157. Yep! I ordered the PPV, and it didn't sink in until Hogan dropped the first leg on Savage. Heenan's line had no effect on me as a viewer at the time.

The email did make me laugh, I was imagining like NFL teams pretentiously signing off their emails with their record at the bottom:

    Sincerely,
    Arizona Cardinals (2-0)

  159. It was a great angle, and as a Sting fan I was eating it up at the time.

  160. Never understood why people think Heenan gave it way when the heels always try to make the faces motives look bad.

  161. Exactly. One aspect everyone always misses about this is that Hogan's turn was a big "I TOLD YOU SO... ALL THESE YEARS I TOLD YOU SO" for Heenan.
Not sure why I capitalized that, but whatever.

  162. Just a clarification: I sent the question to Scott...I wasn't debating the merits of Heenan's call - I agree that it was totally in character...my question was if he got any heat for it, from the company, the boys, etc.
