September Classics: Chris Jericho vs. Chris Benoit - Fall Brawl '96

The first PPV meeting between these two. Jericho had just debuted a few weeks before this show. Benoit was not too far removed from his feud with Kevin Sullivan. These two would go on to have quite a few more classic encounters.

  2. Yep, Cena was awesome really from mid 2006 through his injury in October 2007. He had the RVD match, the Edge stuff and then the 2007 matches mentioned above.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Every time someone smarks about "Cena can't wrestle, can't sell etc", I point out how he carried UMAGA to a great feud.
And the RAW match with Shawn was amazing, I remember Scott's own review with the great line "you know what's scary? We're 40 minutes in and Cena still looks like he just got out of the showers." Say what you will but the conditioning of that man is incredibly compared to so many others.

I feel like Umaga is going to get buried in a few years.

  5. I think Cena's a *great* in-ring performer - I know he's had a much longer reign on top than...anyone else possibly ever in WWE history, and has been around for 12 years excluding extended periods injured (again, a veritable millennia in WWE years), but he arguably has more ***+ matches to his name that anyone in history (bar, say Flair). His highlights might not be as notable or stellar as those of other big dogs, but he's very consistent, many of his matches have been absolutely fantastic, and several of his matches of the past 5 years are easily among the absolute best. It pains me to say it, because it's Cena, but it's true.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Great match right here, stole the show. Then again, there were a good number of very good matches on this show.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Harlem Heat had a million different finishing moves. And cool names for all of them.

  8. Extant1979 - Ghetto SuperstarSeptember 17, 2014 at 1:44 PM

Well, unless he was cremated, I hope that already happened...

    ReplyDelete
  9. He's had much more opportunity to have all these *** matches than anyone else. Being in 20 minute+ main events every month will do that. Put Cesaro, Rollins, Punk, Bryan, any number of guys in that spotlight with top guys to work with every month and their ratio of bad to good matches will murder Cena's, absolutely obliterate it.

I think Cena's good 2007 is an alright justification for him being in every main event in 2007, but good lord, that was seven years ago! Seven! No more!

Yeah, Cena's 2006-7 was one that more people enjoyed and one that was booked better.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Benoit, huh?

  12. I agree with everything the emailer and Scott said. Having said that...I was at SummerSlam in 2007 and it sucked.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I don't know how anyone can confirm or deny the quality of Cena's matches. Yeah, they all start off fine but then he does his magical hand wave and suddenly I can't see him any more.

    ReplyDelete
  14. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD POST A BENOIT VIDEO?

    From Dailymotion, no less........

    ReplyDelete
  15. I remember Chavo vs DDP and Juvy vs Konnan both being awesome as well

  16. Adam "Colorado" CurrySeptember 17, 2014 at 2:37 PM

Yep. Man, that movie had some of the ugliest unis ever, especially the team in the yellow and black.

That's about the only movie where I can tolerate Cameron Diaz.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Cena still gets booed in New England, too.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Well, this thread is going to be interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The WCW ppvs in the second half of 1996 were all really good, I thought.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Adam "Colorado" CurrySeptember 17, 2014 at 2:48 PM

    That's about ****1/4 too high.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Dude, that's deep, bro

    ReplyDelete
  22. They really shouldn't have wasted it on the Family Friendly show

    ReplyDelete
  23. Fall Brawl '96 is a hell of a show. Konnan/Juvi, Rey/Calo, Jericho/Benoit plus the WarGames match for entertainment value. Plus, FIRE AND ICE EXPLODE!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Sting had good matches in the early '90's, yet TNA kept him in main events in 2012.

    ReplyDelete
  25. They were dreadful. Sting is so shot it amazes me people want him to wrestle in WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Seems kind of underwhelming to me. Maybe because I didn't preface the video with a controversial analysis of the man, the myth....the legend.

    ReplyDelete
  27. "gotta get down to the nitty gritty, running down the field make em show they titties uh uh" lol hillarious song for that commercial he did in that movie.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Where did I talk about "anything"? I said I had never seen star ratings for movies.

My only experience with movie ratings was occasional watching of the old Siskel & Ebert show, where they would give thumbs up or thumbs down to let dummies like me know whether or not to watch the movie.

I spoke of movies, not television, theatre, cars, restaurants, tiddlywinks, artichoke carving design, or any other subject. Just movies, of which I am woefully ignorant.

    ReplyDelete
  29. first PPV meeting in the US, but didn't they meet in the 1995 Super J Cup too? (does that count as a PPV?)

    ReplyDelete
  30. yea some dude shattered his collarbone during an xfl "coin toss" haha.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I just don't like the WM23 match that much. It's about ***1/2 to me. The flow is off.

The Raw Broadway between them? Now that's a ***** match, in my view. I also loved Cena's Bryan match last year.

    ReplyDelete
  32. He had a decent match with *Khali* of all people. If the character wasn't so stale, Cena would get the recognition he deserves for being able to carry just about anybody except Kane to a good match.

    ReplyDelete
  33. No I'm a Cena fan. There's room for that, he's been good enough for long enough that its OK

    ReplyDelete
  34. "Become An International Wrestling Legend Using This One Weird Trick."

  35. I really think XFL had a lot of potential but there were just numerous mistakes made. I still say if XFL is in business when Maurice Clarett isn't allowed into the NFL he becomes a huge star and elevates the whole league. Ditto for Marcus Vick who was a freaky athlete.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hey its Stranger telling us we should look past Benoit killing people and enjoy his matches. Yeah, those fans were totally ahead of the curve on accepting Ray Rice by giving him a standing ovation.

    ReplyDelete
  37. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomerySeptember 17, 2014 at 3:57 PM

He got a commercial after being a third string QB who won two games by the skin of his teeth . Lolwut

    ReplyDelete
  38. The feud with Sullivan wasn't actually over. It didn't end until....well, you know

    ReplyDelete
  39. Not just one decent match with Khali, but two! Say what you like about Cena in 2014, he was on fire as a wrestler in 2007.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I have to ask, as an NBA fan, if your screen name is a Marcin Gortat reference.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hmmmm.....no sir. I don't see where I told you to watch it. Feel free to move along.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Shawn's probably had more ***+ matches by virtue of being a more-or-less full-time performer for nearly 20 years (to Cena's 12), and being an even better worker, but it's certainly a short list… Flair, Shawn, maybe some of the Benoit/Eddie/Jericho trio… Edge or Bret Hart maybe?

    Definitely not a long list.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Adam "Colorado" CurrySeptember 17, 2014 at 4:07 PM

I can never give a Broadway match *****, and the constant interruptions for commercial breaks killed the flow for me.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Well you post benoit videos a good often and have stated that position in the past. Am I wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yeah, but that's a big "IF". We've seen plenty of guys who were great in the ring but couldn't cut it as a character, from Lance Storm to Low Ki to Hakushi to *Lucha Style Wrestler Here*… For some reason, though, Cena is allowed to remain on top despite being an absolutely stale, dull, and tired character with almost no charisma left.

Now, yes, I know he moves merch… but that doesn't make it any less annoying. I'm a pretty big Cena-as-worker defender, but even I don't have any interest in seeing his current character ever again, in ring or out.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Isn't there a commercial free version on one of the DVDs somewhere? Or did I dream that?

    ReplyDelete
  47. It's strange to see Jericho as the generic smiling face. I watched his WCW debut the other day and him refusing to win the match via Countout was out of place not only for him, but the era of wrestling.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Sting actually became motivated again and was having great matches around the 2006-2009 timeline, but yeah, by 2010 he became unmotivated again/body was shot.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I feel dirty for up voting this.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Adam "Colorado" CurrySeptember 17, 2014 at 4:13 PM

Makes me wonder who has the least. I want to say Silva/Gigante/whatever the hell you want to call him, but he probably doesn't have enough matches to qualify. Khali?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Adam "Colorado" CurrySeptember 17, 2014 at 4:13 PM

I've only seen it on the Heartbreak and Triumph DVD, and it's not shown uncut.

    ReplyDelete
  52. You're not wrong. But I also don't profess to have an agenda. It's just me posting matches that are good that coincidentally have an infamous individual involved. I understand some people's stance on the man, while others have also taken my viewpoint of "it's okay to watch his matches". It's a fine line. You either watch, or you don't. The man did a horrible thing, so did Hitler. I believe it comes down to your own personal filter.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I don't see a problem. If you have problems with Benoit matches, you could always not watch.

    ReplyDelete
  54. You know, if you could just get over your provincial prejudices, you would see that Hitler made some damned fine paintings.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Except when we are forced to see a picture of Benoit strangling someone on the top page.

    ReplyDelete
  56. One team's starting QB would turn on his team right before half, only to turn back in the fourth quarter.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Bret and Edge definitely

Steve Austin, Kurt Angle & Ricky Steamboat can safely be added to this list.

last year most of Daniel Bryan's tv matches were ***+ as well, factoring in his ROH career there's a lot more.

then you have Styles, Joe, Daniels ... there are lots of excellent workers

    ReplyDelete
  58. Become squeezed as much as he could out of that feud.

    ReplyDelete
  59. You used Hitler. You lost. Sorry :-(

    ReplyDelete
  60. Meh, I hated 2007. Pretty much the year that turned me into a cynic as far as my fandom goes.

    ReplyDelete
  61. The Wm23 match was pretty boring, though the finish was hot. They were trying too hard to get the epic feel and it fell flat.

    ReplyDelete
  62. maybe R-Truth. I don't think he's EVER had a singles match at *** or higher

    ReplyDelete
  63. Honestly, Austin and Angle might not by virtue of relatively short careers and frequent injury issues. They've certainly had more ****+ I'd argue, but Cena's just been in probably 3-4x as many matches as they have.

Bryan, I don't know enough about his ROH run to really comment. Ditto the TNA guys.

The point isn't that Cena's one of the best workers, just that he's one of the most consistent.

    ReplyDelete
  64. "So I think this Cena guy might have a future on top."

The only way to be sure is to push him for like, 10 years straight.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I don't think you're factoring in Austin's WCW career. Plus Austin in both 97 and 01 was on fire and having spectacular matches just about every week.

    ReplyDelete
  66. How did Mike Godwin get to decide what we could and couldn't talk about?

It's been 25 years. Time for a revote.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Cena is a very underrated worker. I seem to be the only one, but I think he ranks up there with the all time great "ring technicians" (flair, hart, hbk, benoit, etc). Cena has had so many classic matches, but occasionally gets "you can't wrestle" chants. Its kind of fucked up actually. IMO Cena is a "*** with a broomstick" guy now.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Because way too many people invoke Hitler for everything. (see above)

    ReplyDelete
  69. Is this the real dougie or the fake one? I'm so confused

    ReplyDelete
  70. My god not a Benoit match!!! Won't someone think of the children???

    ReplyDelete
  71. I'd post a new Benoit match everyday. I'd even try to find a way to make it play automatically for anyone who just opened the blog main page

    ReplyDelete
  72. As much shit as I give Cena, I will never criticize him on the quality of his work. The guy brings it in the ring on a regular basis. His character is stale as hell though, and the SuperCena booking is so fucking irritating.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Yeah but then you couldn't get on a high horse and act outraged

    ReplyDelete
  74. Why? The feud ended when Sullivan retired in '97. What did you think I meant?

    ReplyDelete
  75. Sullivan settled the score about 10 years later

    ReplyDelete
  76. I know. I'm just messin'

    ReplyDelete
  77. I promise to get mad about Benoit once someone shows me a five star match that either Nancy or the kid had. Until then shhhhhhhhh...I'm trying to watch Benoit vs Angle from 03 rumble

    ReplyDelete
  78. And...how is that a problem?

    ReplyDelete
  79. You can't be too careful these days!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Adam "Colorado" CurrySeptember 17, 2014 at 4:54 PM

I keep hearing that people say he can't work, but it seems like everyone (or at least everyone here) doesn't have a problem with his work, but everything else about him. I hate John Cena the character, but have no issue with John Cena the wrestler or John Cena the person. Everything I don't like about him is out of his control, he's just doing what he's told to do.

One thing that does irritate me is how he always makes sure he hits his moves at the right angle for the hard camera, but again, doing what he's told, and he's definitely not the only one that does it.

    ReplyDelete
  81. This could be either one. I always hated those episodes of like x men where mystique would pretend to be Xavier and fuck everyone up or other cartoon comic book shows where two people would swap bodies.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Man, don't even bother to respond. It's a wrestling match. It's not that serious.

    ReplyDelete
  83. ANOTHER excuse for tasteless Benoit jokes? Is it my birthday or something?

    ReplyDelete
  84. Adam "Colorado" CurrySeptember 17, 2014 at 4:59 PM

I recall some of his TNA matches being at least ***, but seeing as how we're talking about Ron Killings (WWE are idiots for not using one of the greatest wrestling names ever, BTW) and TNA I can't provide a specific example.

I think Mabel is the answer here, I don't think I've ever seen a singles match of his that hit **.

    ReplyDelete
  85. "Hang yourself from a weight machine."

    ReplyDelete
  86. I understand they had quite the bloodbath in 2007. Meltzer gave it four stars.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Big Show on Monday night with the double chokeslam. Rotated two guys to get into position for the hard camera. So terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Yeah but that match literally took a whole weekend. I really have a tough time getting into anything over 30 minutes. Its why I don't watch much njpw

    ReplyDelete
  89. My goodness dude. Make up your mind! Am I thinking of the children or of the women? I really shouldn't be expected to do both

    ReplyDelete
  90. People wouldn't care about Clarett dominating a bunch of no names. The story would be if anything, could he do this at an NFL level. The NFL would be mentioned more in the story than the league he would be playing in. No one would care about Marcus Vick at all.

    ReplyDelete
  91. What match is that? Was it from a PPV?

    ReplyDelete
  92. When they could be posting videos of Japanese giving each other brain damage instead!

    ReplyDelete
  93. there's this one ECW on ScyFy match I remember that was Punk & Kane vs Miz, Morrison, & Big Daddy V. It was a ridiculously fun match. If my memory is correct I'd go ***, but this was at a time where good TV matches were a rarity, so who knows

    ReplyDelete
  94. I mean, his WCW career was good, but he didn't get a ton of screen time. And while, yes, while healthy in '97 and in '01 he was absolutely on fire… two years of 1-2 great matches per week =/= 12 years of just under 1 good-great match per week. It's not a judgment against Austin, it's just math.

Put another way, Austin certainly has the higher batting average, and more home runs, but Cena's got more career base hits.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Thanks for the plug and the praise!

    ReplyDelete
  96. Unfortunately the original footage got destroyed so we can't see it on the network. Fucking WCW.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I believe Godwins Law really only comes into play if you compare your debate opponent to Hitler, not if you just bring Hitler up. Sometimes you gotta bring Hitler up.

    ReplyDelete
  98. JoMo got one or two goodish ones out of him, but that's all i can think of.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Festus? Heidenreich? Big Shitty Slop #8726? Michael Tarver? Every DV except AJ, Paige, Layla, and Natty since Beth Phoenix retired?

    ReplyDelete
  100. Batista/Taker and Shawn/Cena were money feuds, plus I think (though could be wrong) DX vs. Rated RKO might have been in there. That's all I can remember being any good, though. I assume Edge was up to something awesome, because Edge, but I can't specifically remember.

    ReplyDelete
  101. In Your House: Fayeteville.

    ReplyDelete
  102. It's boring by "WM Shawn Michaels" standards, but it's still a damned good match, in my opinion. Just not as good as the one he had the year before or the year after, or the rematch he had with Cena in London.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Benoit remembered the children...

    ReplyDelete
  104. I wouldn't include Festus, he had some good ones with Rey when he was Luke Gallows

    ReplyDelete
  105. Cena was definitely not having great matches from 02-06. I know he had a great one with Angle on ppv, but by and large his upper-mid card stuff was not good.

Take for example the brutally boring best of 5 with Booker T

    ReplyDelete
  106. Very good match. I wonder if the people who routinely get outraged by just the sight of Chris Benoit also refuse to watch Naked Gun and Woody Allen movies and Roman Polanski movies and refuse to listen to Nirvana, Lou Reed, Queens of the Stone Age, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, etc. Guess what? A lot of "artists" are horrible people who've done horrible things (the majority in that list involving sex crimes and violence against women) and it's up to you whether you want to or can separate that from the "art". Nobody HAS to watch Benoit matches or enjoy them, obviously, but the persistent outrage that others might be able to is bloody tedious. If we were only allowed to enjoy stuff made by good people we'd be left with very few entertainment options.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Woody Allen didn't kill anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Yeah, I alluded to his longevity giving him more opportunity.

    ReplyDelete
  109. But he may have raped his step daughter Dylan

    ReplyDelete
  110. Adopted daughter. He may have, but I doubt it.

That said, his daughter Manzie, is smoking.

    ReplyDelete
  111. And yet he's the main one on that list I avoid because I can't look at him without remembering the foul stuff he's accused of. It all comes down to individual boundaries and tastes - I'd never tell anyone not to watch Woody Allen movies. I just wish there could be a mention of Benoit matches here without some people getting weird.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I chalk up the Woody Allen controversy to a scorned ex lover who is a pretty evil person.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Not to mention marrying his other step-daughter.... hardly a bastion of goodness and fatherly boundaries.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Yea I know. Malone can think she wants.

    ReplyDelete
  115. He didn't do that either

    ReplyDelete
  116. actually that's a misconception. Sun Yi was his girlfriend's step-daughter, not his.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Ah, well that's not weird at all then.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Soon-Yi is the adopted daughter of Mia Farrow and Andre Previn

    ReplyDelete
  119. While we are on the subject: It's hard for me to enjoy having money in my pocket because U.S. currency features the faces of some of the shittiest people ever imaginable. Wait, I'm lying. I don't care how many people George Washington cracked the whip on, I'm still going to throw them dollars in the strip club.

    ReplyDelete
  120. What Dylan changed her name to.

    ReplyDelete
  121. This guy gets it. Wasn't trying to assert Cena's one of the best of all time by any means (my language was pretty over enthusiastic admittedly - I'd had a whiskey), just that he's very consistent and his long run has given him an opportunity to work more matches of a medium to high quality. Certainly one of the best main eventers the WWE has ever produced, though.

    ReplyDelete
  122. His character is terrible, and is a huge contrast to his great 2003-2004 evil Vanilla Ice heel. His refusing to hit Paul Heyman on Raw was awful. Stone Cold would never refuse to stun Vince when he had the chance, so that made him look like a pussy. Are we supposed to cheer for this goody two-shoes? This kind of babyface should have been finished after Kurt Angle so successfully parody it in his first WWF run, but here we are with another "take your vitamins and say your prayers" face (with perhaps even less of an edge than the orange one). I understand its the PG era, but the main babyface doesn't have to be this much of a tool. So yes, I hate the character as much as you do. That said, I agree on the quality of his wrestling.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Well, keep in mind, we're talking "good" here more than "great," but point partially taken. Also remember that there was no Smackdown in 1997, so Austin was really only wrestling on TV once a week. Also also remember that Cena's had multiple weeks, during his prime, where he's had 3-4 matches thanks to all the extra programming with Smackdown/ECW/Main Event/Whatever.

In no way am I suggesting that Austin's an inferior wrestler, but he probably has, like, 200-300 good+ TV matches, whereas Cena, by virtue of sheer longevity, probably has closer to 400 or 500.*

Numbers may be vaguely off, but you get my point. It's just such a huge disparity in the amount of TV time, that mostly only guys like Shawn or Flair who were on or near the top for a decade plus can much compete. Austin's double screwed by virtue of missing a crapload of time to injury and having a pretty short-ish career to begin with, relative to Cena. Austin has basically a 10 year career as a full-time guy, but there are several large injury absences in there, and it wasn't until 1997 or so that he was consistently featured week-to-week as a performer. Factor in that prior to '99, he was really only wrestling once a week at most, and it's a basic numbers game.

And yes, while Cena was not a great worker early on, he was lucky enough to be programmed semi-regularly with guys like Angle, Brock, and Benoit who could get something decent out of him. Again, the conversation we're having here is "***+" which is good, but hardly great.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Geez. Metal Machine Music isn't easy to listen to, but I don't think releasing an album that's an hour of guitar feedback makes Lou Reed a horrible person who did horrible things.

    ReplyDelete
  125. TJ: http://www.411mania.com/wrestling/news/335456

    INTERESTING

    ReplyDelete
  126. Heh, I love Lou but he was apparently quite fond of hitting women back in the day. Not a rarity for rock stars, granted, which was my point about the very few honestly "good" people in the entertainment industry.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I don't quite agree.

Cena was definitely not on both Raw & SD until recently. During the height of the brand-split guys were isolated to their own shows. In 01, before the split, Austin was tearing it up on both shows every week.

I don't even count most of the women as even being wrestlers. The 3 guys you mentioned I don't think I've ever seen any of their matches.

    ReplyDelete
  131. If they keep it tame and subtle, everyone will be happy, I doubt we'll see HLA

    ReplyDelete
  132. Adam "Colorado" CurrySeptember 17, 2014 at 6:05 PM

Is their such a thing as a single scissoring figure?

    ReplyDelete
  133. The WWE Creative's idea of subtle is a fat naked man dancing. I wouldn't count on them for nuance.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  139. Banging your girlfriend's adopted daughter is cool?

    ReplyDelete
  140. Threadjack, and I'm way too sick to check and see if it's been reported already: Apparently AJ and Paige are building up to this lesbian sexual tension angle.

    ReplyDelete
  141. They've been together for more than 20 years and are raising two kids. It's not cool that he cheated on his girlfriend, but then again, she was cheating on him throughout their relationship.

    ReplyDelete
  142. How sick are you? It's right below you.

    ReplyDelete
  143. ... Very.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I wish WWE would go to bat for 1 bloody brawl instead they go to bat for a lesbian angle.

  145. That's great for them - but can you understand how it gives others pause when they see a man who was a father-figure for a young woman and he obviously saw her as a prospective sexual partner? The lines are pretty blurry and icky there.

  146. Bayless posts a TNA thread in a bit. Use it for whatever you want.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I'll ride with woody Allen to the bitter end. Manhattan ftw

    ReplyDelete
  148. I supposed I should have been more precise

    ReplyDelete
  149. You mean you DON'T miss "FRUIT BOOTIES!" and "YAKS!"?

    Strange, neither do I.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Yea, I can totally see why it would give people pause. It's certainly unusual. But it's not like broke any laws or did anything wrong.

Oh yeah, I forgot Impact is tonight now.

  152. I saw that movie the night he wrote back to the NY Times. Felt appropriate. I listen to Rhapsody in Blue all the time

  153. He might be a rapist, but he's my hometown rapist!

    ReplyDelete
  154. Oh I am a huge fan of Woody's films. Crimes and Misdemeanors might be the best film ever made. I'm just tired of judgement regarding watching Benoit matches.

    ReplyDelete
  155. "Nicole Brown can't rap! I want justice!"

    ReplyDelete
  156. Fuck the law.

"Anything you say will be misquoted and used against you in the court of Smark Opinion."

    ReplyDelete
  157. ... which is why he HAD to be turned heel with the NWO.

    ReplyDelete
  158. If you make Manhattana, crimes and misdemeanors, Broadway danny rose, and stardust I'll turn a blind eye to a little kting

  159. Annie Hall gives you one free 7-year-old.

    ReplyDelete
  160. You'll get your blood when WWE's risque angle for AJ/Paige becomes that their cycles have synchronised. First Blood match DRAW!

    ReplyDelete
  161. And no pay off will occur.

    ReplyDelete
  162. FYI if you like both Chris Benoit matches and woody Allen movies we'd probably be IRL friends

    ReplyDelete
  163. Its really setting the world on fire!

    ReplyDelete
  164. I'll sign off on that

    ReplyDelete
  165. Im a big fan of both guys myself

    Woody Allen is terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Wouldn't that describe Tim Tebow or Johnny Football today? lol

    ReplyDelete
  168. It's not they're blood relatives.

    ReplyDelete
  169. God I love woody Allen movies. I can get how people might not like some of the more new yorkish ones but he's got something for everyone imo

    ReplyDelete
  170. Depends on how hot she is/how old she was when you married her mom/how many great movies you've written and directed

    More like Jew York, amirite?

    ReplyDelete
  172. Sleeper is awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  173. That's Woody's muse. That sentence on a post-it note over his computer/typewriter.

    What did Dave Grohl do?

    ReplyDelete
  175. I saw it for the first time this year. I felt bad for the other audience members since I could not stop laughing.

  176. I think in some ways Cena is an excellent worker, and in other ways he's absolutely awful. Examples: he has no subtlety at all to anything he does. Take the 10 count outside of the ring...he never sells it by slowly crawling toward the ring and selling he's beaten up. He lays like a corpse for 9.5 seconds, then leaps to his feet and sprints to the ring like he's just doing his entrance, then lies like a corpse again. A lot of his moves look like weak hitting versions of regular moves...the shoulder blocks always look weak, the drop before the five knuckle shuffle looks weak. The AA is okay but is a weaker Death Valley Driver. The STF usually looks horrible. The leg drop to the back of the head usually looks very weak. Also, he's a good in match seller, but he rarely sells anything once he goes into the finish. He suddenly is 100% healthy and his opponent sucks so much they couldn't do any lasting damage to him. Sell an arm injury or something. Act like you're out of breath.

There's also a lot he does well. He's good at working crowds and knowing when to hit his spots. He's freakishly strong, and as much as I despise him always acting like he finished a 30 second squash post match, it is impressive endurance. When he can get around the earlier flaws (something he is able to do a decent amount) he's a great worker. Unfortunately he often chooses not to do that, and when that's the case I (personally of course) don't enjoy his matches.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Yeah, and I think that's the match where Benoit beat him with a piledriver off the middle rope.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Have you seen Magic yet?

    ReplyDelete
  179. The Hometown Rapists sound like the more fearsome sports franchise ever! "2-4-6-8-No means yes that's what we state!" sing the bloodied and bruised cheerleaders.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Sleeper rules and I would recommend that to anyone who's looking to stick a toe in the woody Allen pool

    ReplyDelete
  181. And for anyone who wants to stick their dick into Diane Keaton

    ReplyDelete
  182. No I haven't seen it yet. Did you like it?

    ReplyDelete
  183. One of these Wednesdays, I'm going to have some real irrational hatred instead of the typical mild indifference towards TNA when I think it's actually Thursday only to realize there's still 2 fucking days of the week left

    ReplyDelete
  184. There are some things that Cena does in the ring that really irritate me, but in general he's a very good worker who is often great. As you said though, it's everything else that I hate.

    ReplyDelete
  185. It's light Woody but it's a movie Woody made for his core fanbase. Emma Stone doing Diane Keaton is awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  186. Grohl/Foos are AIDS-denialists and Kurt used to bash Courtney. Still, Nirvana are one of my favourite bands and I listen to In Utero very often.

    ReplyDelete
  187. She was real hot back in the early 70's. I kind of hated Kay Corleone so this actually made me appreciate her looks

    ReplyDelete
  188. The fact that Woody hit that is amazing. She looks so good in his movies.

    ReplyDelete
  189. I'll definitely see it as soon as it hits dvd

    ReplyDelete
  190. Boardwalk stalking: Like the set up, but first two eps are like Dark Tower 4 for me. I'm not liking the flashbacks because I want to get to the end. (but on re-reads DT 4's possibly my favorite of the books, figuring once I've made it to the end, young Nucky won't be as hard to take). Shame they stayed true to history on Rothstein though
