September Classics: Christopher Daniels vs. Samoa Joe vs. AJ Styles - TNA Unbreakable '05

Now, I'm not much of a TNA historian. I can probably count on one hand the number of memorable matches I have seen. Until recently, I had never seen this match prior. This is as close to a ***** match that I have seen from TNA. I'm sure most of us have seen it, but if you haven't, here you go.

  1. If you don't consider this five stars, I'd love to see what you do.

  2. The best match in TNA history.

  3. Three words: KENNEL FROM HELL

  4. These "classics" post seem more like a reason to post a TNA match 88% of the time.

  5. I used to have the TNA On-Demand service. Matches like this and the XXX-AMW Cage Match depressed the hell out of me, because they showed what TNA could do when they wanted to. Instead, they actively chose stupidity, which is frustrating for someone who desperately wanted to see them succeed.

  6. This match is awesome because, even though I know who's going to win, it always has me on the edge of my seat.

I actually rotate companies where I can. It was WCW yesterday, it will be ECW tomorrow, WWE after that, etc.

This is a good match, however I've gone to quite a few TNA house shows and they have repeated this match every time they've wrestled.

I enjoyed it very much and on second watch I can go five.

  10. I couldn't agree more. WWE has an in-ring style that they want and TNA allowed those that didn't work that style a place to showcase their skills. I loved this match and X-Division bouts in general.

  11. Beautiful match. The rematch at Against All Odds 2006 was great as well. Surprisingly, their Ultimate X match was fairly mediocre. The three had another beautiful match in 2009 at Turning Point as well.

  12. Loved that "STOP KICKING ME!!!" spot.

  13. That's actually lifted from the Low Ki - Dranielson - Daniels match from "The Era of Honor Begins" still a great spot though.

  14. Sorry for being an ass. Keep up the work.

  15. Joe's debut against Chris Sabin is also great, and seriously underrated. Great story with Joe kicking his ass but Sabin finding a small crack and got a big hope run in and then Joe just smothers him. Its a text book way to get someone over in a squash without killing the guy you squashed. Every time someone like Rusev debuts I think - "he needs to watch Joe-Sabin."

  16. I'm glad we had this talk.

  17. Speaking of TNA, did anyone catch Spike TV's Senior Vice President of Communications' comments on Russo's "SpikeTV is a horrible partner"?

"I want to start by saying we enjoyed a
great relationship, a very collaborative relationship with Dixie Carter
and her team over the years. We took TNA from a late night spot on
Saturday nights, doing 500,000 viewers, to a two-hour time slot that did
two million viewers over time. Spike went out of its way, not in just
adhering to its contract, but above and beyond the contract. We paid
Hulk Hogan, we paid Eric Bischoff, with our money. We financed many
shows. We financed U.K. shows. We helped promote. We gave TNA a prime
time slot of Thursdays from 9-11 p.m. I think his comments are way off
base. Clearly, he doesn't know what he's talking about. He's somebody
who thinks more of himself than really exists. Vince Russo never meant
anything to Spike TV. He had nothing to do with negotiations. Nobody
cares about Vince Russo at Spike TV. Nobody cares or knows who he is.
We have a great relationship with TNA. We went above and beyond for
them, as they did for us. Dixie helped promote our shows. What Vince
Russo is saying is complete nonsense."

By the way, the key word in the first sentence is "enjoyed"

  18. Fantastic - 2005 had some amazing matches coming out of TNA, NOAH and ROH.

  19. "Nobody cares about Vince Russo at Spike TV. Nobody cares or knows who he is."
"What Vince Russo is saying is complete nonsense."

So you don't know who he is or care about him, buuuuut you do know who he is and you are commenting on what he said. And yes I also picked up on the past tense.

Close to? This absolutely is a ***** match in every definition of the term in my opinion. This match was the pinnacle of TNA's greatness.

  21. In defense of TNA, there's this gem later on, also:

"We have a great relationship with TNA."

... then the next two sentences go back to past tense. So go figure.
