September Classics: The Dynamite Kid vs. Bret Hart - 9/14/85

Not the best quality, sorry about that. The technical members of their respective tag teams go at it here in this match from 1985. The Dynamite Kid is probably at his peak here before all the injuries. This gets **** easy.

  2. I get any disqus reply emailed to my phone by my gmail account so I can actually get a reply on my phone like a text message. So if someone is replying to me days after the fact I can find out immediately to reply or read it. That's definitely my favorite thing about disqus.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Is this all because I get long-winded in blog posts?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Putting Tatanka in the match was just weird. At least use Kama or Bundy as a partner as they had slightly more credibility than Tatanka.

    ReplyDelete
  5. John Edwards hates something? Get the fuck out!

    ReplyDelete
  6. This is a nice idea but let's be honest, the forum is gonna be dead in a few months

    ReplyDelete
  7. It's a great alternative for those people who read the BoD daily but don't like the Disqus format. Plus it's easier to go back and search for previous posts, rather than aimlessly wandering through past blog entries to find a comment that someone made way back when.

    ReplyDelete
  8. But what about FIBA?!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Just pointing out why the forums will fail. Why don't you, in all your intellectual glory take the opposing stance and explain to me why they are a good idea.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yes. Everything is your fault.

    ReplyDelete
  11. "Even if the writing is good, do we really care about any indy fed that maybe 3 people who post here actually watch?"

It's people like you who are killing Southern States

    ReplyDelete
  12. I'm pretty sure the live threads will continue. The forum is not a replacement for Disqus. It's more of an alternative place to post that is category specific. Also, it will help with threadjacking of posts during the day.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I would've just preferred limiting the clutter of people posting. There are lots of guys who post stuff where they could simply do so on their own blog if they were so inclined rather than here.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I agree that's there's really no need for all of those different sub-forums. We're not exactly an IGN-level community. All of those categories just makes everything bloated.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Man, not only had I forgotten about the blue tights, but I'd forgotten what a scrawny little wimp Bret Hart was, and what a bulky steroid abuser Dynamite Kid was.

    Cool find.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Months? I give it a month.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I wonder--had he stayed healthy, maybe cleaned up a little (I'm aware of the size of that 'had'), would Dynamite Kid have gotten Bret Hart's spot, the guy who broke the ceiling through sheer workrate? I daresay Kid was more influential, stylistically, than Bret. Some would argue that in his prime he was a better worker. So would Kid have been the guy to go over Hennig and eventually Flair? Or maybe Kid would have taken Davey Boy's spot, meaning Summerslam 92 would probably enter contention for greatest match ever.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Like Cult said, it's not going to kill the comment section. It's a category specific forum where we can bullshit about whatever random stuff that is not going on here.
No offense to Simpsons fans or NBA fans, but I don't want to go to the TNA live thread and have to skip over many comments about the Simpsons marathon or the NBA draft. Same goes for the Raw threads. I threadjack sometimes to talk video games. Now I have another place to go where I can talk video games without getting in other people's way. The forums is in no way going to kill the live threads or the comments at all.

No. Kid was amazing in the ring. But he had literally zero mic skill. People underplay Bret's skill but the guy was more than good enough to get by and craft storylines around. Kid had his ring skills and that's it. His Wigan accent was so thick you almost couldn't understand it. And he didn't have the Hart family thing going for him either.

    ReplyDelete
  20. fine little contest, but I wouldn't give it four snowflakes, personally.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I agree, Bret didn't stand out on mic skills alone, but he could cut a completely serviceable promo that could get you fired up for a match. Also, he had a fantastic presentation, signature colors, a gimmick that connected him with the audience (the sunglasses), and really cool music. I think beyond his ring skills all those elements played into him grabbing that top spot for a while.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Then why have it? Are ten people that horny to moderate each other and circle jerk endlessly? If it ain't broke don't fix it. The only thing broken here is any monkey with a typewriter can post articles here if they're so inclined.

Quality control, it's all that was asked

    ReplyDelete
  23. No it's not. Dude is pretty pathetic. He makes meekin look suave

    ReplyDelete
  24. A new forum for the same ten people to circle jerk and so cult status can feel good about himself.

    Fixed it for you.

    ReplyDelete
  25. It's lame as fuck unnecessary and only exists for cult to feel important

    ReplyDelete
  26. What does everybody nnneeeed???

    ReplyDelete
  27. I agree with you that it doesn't do a lot for quality control. Having a B-site for the lesser writers of the blog would still fix that. The forum is more of an added bonus. It's an option. You don't have to use the forum. Those of us who do like it, good for us and I hope it takes off. If you don't like it, then don't go there. I'm not trying to start an argument, I'm just wondering why there is all this hate directed toward a forum that some of us like. It's not a requirement to register for the forum, nor will it take anything away from this blog.

  28. I shared some thoughts on Royal Rumble 2005! Under the Network section. Share your thoughts on the show!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Because it's unneeded, over complicated (really the sheer amount of different forums in it alone make it a chore to browse), the moderator already said he'd edit posts for the lulz, and ninety percent of the content would be just as at home in the comments as it is in a place not many will go. I came here to read Scott's articles and maybe a few others, not to have the exact same banter I do in the comments in a terribly generic looking mismanaged forum

    ReplyDelete
  30. Except the random thread jacks are a part of the comments section.

The community lives on the site.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Now imagine this match with the two wrestlers wearing jean shorts...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Even with the depleted roster, this should have been an easy tournament and PPV to book.
    first round
British Bulldog Vs Hakushi (subbing for Razor Ramon)
    Bob Holly Vs Jeff Jarrett
    Shawn Michaels Vs The Undertaker
    The Roadie Vs Lex Luger
    semis
    British Bulldog Vs Jeff Jarrett
    Shawn Michaels Vs The Roadie
    final
    Shawn Michaels Vs British Bulldog
    Tag Title Steel Cage Match
Owen Hart & Yokozuma Vs Smoking Gunns
    I Quit Match
    Jerry Lawler Vs Bret Hart
    Six Man Elimination Tag
Diesel, Bam Bam Bigelow & King Kong Bundy Vs Tatanka, Sid & Kama

    ReplyDelete
  33. When did I say I'd edit posts?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Can I write a column venting about my ex? She just BURRRRRIED me in a text message brother and I feel the need to opine. I usually don't get too worked up about anything but nothing or no one can make my blood boil like that bitch.

  35. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomerySeptember 5, 2014 at 4:16 PM

I like the forum in that we can carry on discussions that don't have to be followed up to the second as in a live thread, it's nice to have when pesky stuff like work gets in the way

    ReplyDelete
  36. Jarrett was Roadie's cornerman for KotR, he didn't work a match on the show.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I was reading the old Observer discussing Kid's retirement. Meltzer mentioned Kid doing a diving headbutt from the top rope onto the floor, which is one of the most insane things I can thing of. I looked for a video, but couldn't find one. Anybody have a clip by chance?

    ReplyDelete
  38. When didn't you?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Worst "tag team main event" ever. Both teams were fucking weird. Why not do Diesel/Shawn v. Sid/Someone?

    Or Diesel/Shawn/Bam Bam v. Sid/Tatanka/ehhhh BUNDY?

Man the heels in 1995 were the worst.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Thanks for uncluttering the main blog.

    ReplyDelete
  41. lolwat I didn't. Go ahead and find the post that said I was going to edit people's posts. I'll wait.

    ReplyDelete
  42. That Furgeson joke was hilarious and awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  43. One of the rumors at the time was that they were going to do Diesel/Ramon v Sid/Spivey as the main event, which actually would have been pretty awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Weeks...

... but perhaps the uncluttering of the blog will remain intact.

    ReplyDelete
  45. That's avoiding the question. You never said you wouldn't, actually you responded with for the lulz when I accused you in the first place. I gave you pointers above on how to make the forums suck less, whether you listen or not is on you.

    ReplyDelete
  46. The thing about tournaments is that you tease dream matches without actually giving them away so putting Shawn/Taker on there would have been a huge waste.

    ReplyDelete
  47. It's a place for the Blogs B+ (at best) activity.

    ReplyDelete
  48. LOL. But I prefaced it with the fact that he's a good writer. I dont want to beat him up, I just don't think the content is worth a topic on the main page.

    ReplyDelete
  49. omg you're such a neck beard. I responded with the lulz because it's hilarious you think it's some kind of conspiracy.

I don't have to prove shit. Nobody has been edited and you're the fucking random that starting talking about editing posts out of nowhere and you're the one who accused me. So again, I'll wait while you find where I said that.

    Lighten up Francis.

    ReplyDelete
  50. My name is john not francis. I showed you, you claim I'm wrong but you have literally no proof. You have a bloated set of forums with endless needless sub forums that will barely be used by the few that'll actually visit.

People aren't here to go to a forum and post shit, three quarters of the readers belong to other places including the craphole npp freakin awesome forums wz forums etc.

I could prove my point by posting there I guess, but why when you'll just delete or edit on whim?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Adam "Colorado" CurrySeptember 5, 2014 at 4:48 PM

Fellatio, but I like the cut of your jib.

  52. The Ghost of Faffner HallSeptember 5, 2014 at 4:49 PM

If it was Spivey as Waylon Mercy, then yes, I totally agree.

    ReplyDelete
  53. No proof of what Francis? Shown me what? You're either trolling or are some socially retarded shut in who takes meds.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Dude stop talking to the mirror and talk to me. Still waiting on you to show me where you said you wouldn't. Still waiting for you to eliminate a few unneeded sub forums. Still waiting for you to edit the forums so they look less like a generic version of the craphole. Still waiting on a lot of things, when are you going to deliver?

    ReplyDelete
  55. I've added you to the meltdown section! Congrats Francis!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Adam "Colorado" CurrySeptember 5, 2014 at 5:00 PM

    I'm listening...

    ReplyDelete
  57. No meltdown here honey. Amused that you're using insults towards me that I've bandied about on here towards others because you have not an original bone in your body.

You still avoid the questions, because I'm calling you out on your shit. Now go, discuss me in your forums. When I wake up tomorrow I won't even remember this exchange, but I'm sure it'll fester in your mind and I'll have to endure your pathetic trolling for a while until you feel you've proven something.

    ReplyDelete
  58. You literally just spent this entire thread making things up like a crazy person.

    ReplyDelete
  59. No, I've spent this whole thread asking you where you said you wouldn't delete or edit posts. You've spent this whole time attempting to mock me, while I've brushed you off. You aren't very good at this you know. The fact that you continue to respond is proof to that. Maybe you should rename your post "my own personal meltdown"

    ReplyDelete
  60. Maybe you're too busy worrying about chem trails to notice, but every single post that gets edited has a notice "edited by:" at the bottom.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Maybe you're too busy attempting to think up witty insults to use on me to notice that you're getting wound up over the opinion of someone who doesn't particularly care what you have to say.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Says the guy who has been badgering me this whole thread for proof that people's posts aren't being edited. I only edit the posts that expose that vast conspiracy behind 9/11.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Tatanka just seemed dated to me, even as a kid. Him and the Smoking Guns just seemed like gimmicks that were suited for the 50's.

    ReplyDelete
  64. It's a little dated sure, but at least Tatanka believed in his gimmick/character so it was a fine midcard act.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Except it was a quarter final match so you could actually hype it in advance. Plus which despite how the history is rewritten at the time Undertaker was just another upper midcarder/former champion. He was not seen as a legendary icon or even a main eventer at this time. He spent all of 95 fighting the likes of Kama, Mabel & I.R.S.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Undertaker was a main eventer and a considerable draw for the company. Shawn Michaels was just emerging as the new hot act for the company. It was way too soon to do this match, let alone waste it in a meaningless quarter-finals match.

    ReplyDelete
  67. It's nice to see Scott plays Super Card too. Game is so stupid but I was hooked into it pretty hard for a week or so though. I haven't seen Bret in the game at all, guess we won't be seeing him in 2k15.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Aaron Ferguson's my brother's name so that was kind of jarring to see reading this.

    ReplyDelete
  69. WithAuthority was a better game - but that is never getting ported to iPad -- so Super Card is cool.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Your twenties should be a time of learning and adventure. Instead I spent them perfecting my Christian cheese deck and such. I was Rowdy, you?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Future Outsiders v. Former Skyscrapers? Hells yes. (I know people (rightly) believe Sid was shit, but the 'scrapers were an underrated monster team. Either version.)

    ReplyDelete
  72. I remember this show popping a huge rating, like a 3.9 or even 4.2. With Nitro starting in September and splitting the Monday Night audience, this show stayed on the books for a long time as the "highest rated RAW ever." Give credit to Taker, I guess. Kinda funny to see him go over the I-C champ clean and having said I-C champ not even qualify for the KotR. By this time, though, they probably already figured that Jarrett would drop the belt to Shawn and Shawn would restore the I-C belt to glory. Which he did with the ladder match at Summerslam, but then Syracuse happened and we were back to the bouncing belt.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Well and what should be your strategy for the company? Having the most drawing guys in the main event! And not Mabel or Savio Vega where nobody cared about in the first place.

Why not having Undertaker winning the tournament and then making Diesel vs Undertaker at Summer Slam with a screw job finish so that Diesel can keep the title and Taker can feud with someone else at the next events?

Or you could make Yokozuna winning the KOTR Tournament. Diesel vs Yokozuna could have been a very interesting match and I would watch Yoko over Mabel any day and twice on sunday!

Or turn Luger heel and let him win the KOTR. Or British Bulldog. Or Adam Bomb. Or Sid. Or HBK.

EVERYONE would have been better than King Mabel... maybe besides Bob Holly or Mantaur or Roadie or so. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  74. Yes the most drawing guys should main event, not be in the opening match of a tournament. The best time to run with Shawn/Undertaker would have been in 96 while Shawn was champion.

I never said Mabel was a great choice to main event Summerslam, my argument was that doing Shawn/Taker at KOTR was a waste and WWF would have squandered a lot of money in a potential future program for the two.

    ReplyDelete
  75. The company being mystified at Diesel's lack of drawing power shouldn't be too surprising considering that John Cena vs. The Big Show has never drawn any money but that still didn't keep WWE from having the two feud FOUR times.

It also hasn't kept them from repeatedly pushing Kane even though Kane is probably the only guy in history to have never had a good match with Shawn Michaels.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Unforgiven 2004 would like a word with you.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I seem to recall most people thought that match was underwhelming and an anti-climatic return for Shawn, nevermind that Batista would have been a far better choice for an opponent and he was stuck in a filler tag match that was immediately forgotten about by the next day.

    ReplyDelete
  78. They should have ripped of the Hakushi/Bret severed head idea with Cena and Tensai.
