September Classics: TNA Super X Cup - 9/3/03

On this very date in 2003, TNA gave us the Super X Cup tournament. I couldn't decide which of these matches was actually better....SO I POSTED BOTH! Unprecedented! Enjoy.

Anything can happen at the BOD!

  2. I remember watching this show...at that moment I really thought TNA was the future of wrestling.

  3. TWO different TNA posts in one day on the BoD main page?!? They truly are taking over.

  4. Also gotta wonder what happened to Juvi and Teddy - both had absolutely star-making performances that night, but both had too many issues to capitalize on it.

  5. Teddy Hart's burned almost as many bridges as Shane Douglas, and Juvi's a complete screw-up. Not much else to say about either of them really.

  7. Most over-dramatic sell of a punch at 3:22 of the Juvi/Teddy match

Looking back, TNA as a company is a bigger case of squandered potential than any individual wrestler or storyline in history. They SHOULD have been the future of wrestling, but they fucked up at every turn until they were beyond repair.

  9. Teddy Hart could have been a huge star if he wasn't such a douche, fired by WWE twice, TNA once, and was literally thrown out of the locker room after his second appearance for ROH.

  10. Is Hart still kicking around the high school gym circuit, or is he effectively retired?
    What a waste of talent.

  11. THIS!! So much potential. So many innovative ideas. The World X Cup in particular I thought was a great way to introduce foreign talents and do something different and make matches actually matter.

Where to even begin with all the things they did wrong, Starting with the NAME, Jarretts strangle hold on the belt. Burying the X division. Not handling Samoa Joe properly. Sacrificing home grown talent for WWE Castoffs. That ridiculous Red Cage thing that used to open their "Monday Night War". Choosing Vince Russo Bringing in Hogan and BIschoff. Letting AJ Styles Go. Letting Bad Influence go. The List goes on and on.

  12. Teddy Hart is the greatest professional wrestler I have ever seen... Its a shame HHH and HBK were afraid to give Teddy a fair shot but I dont blame them both for being afraid Teddy would outshine both of those talentless cowards..

  13. The X Cup was such a great idea. Wrestling has such a rich international culture with significant style differentiation from different countries. Yet this is as close as an American promotion has gotten to exploring that.

Reading that list, it just gets worse and worse.

  15. I absolutely loved this show. I had so much hope for TNA around this time.

  16. TNA circa 2003 was great stuff. It truly was an alternative to the increasingly stale WWE product.
