Sporting News: WWE Night of Champions 2014 Results

Comments

  1. We spent the whole Orton/Jericho match trying to come up with unique ways that Orton could hit the RKO. Then Jericho went to the top rope and our viewing party of five all groaned in unison. Then we watched a ten minute compilation of DDP delivering Diamond Cutters from every which way

  2. There was one thing I noticed after watching the end of the Brock/Cena match. Watch Paul Heyman's face as Rollins interferes and then watch the curb stomp. Heyman's face never changes. You would expect him to at least look like there was something major happening or some sort of shock. However he stayed stone faced the entire time.

And as soon as Cena chased off Rollins, Lesnar hit the F5 and Heyman got the belt. Still no facial expression whatsoever but he was getting them out of there ASAP.

  3. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x26ejj2_dave-meltzer-on-njpw-destruction-in-kobe-2014_sport

Here's the Meltz chiming in just now to deem the Tanahashi/Shibata match "probably" the Match of the Year. I'm sure there's some who still may turn a blind eye, that's fine. There's a dad out there whose son just came home from the mall with 4 new pairs of pink skinny jeans. So at least there's somebody out there as embarrassed for the youth as I am. My pain is shared.

  4. Dude, did you just shit your pants?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Haven't most PPV providers dropped WWE over the Network fiasco? I know I can't order shows on Uverse anymore, so even if I WANTED to spend $55 on one of these awful shows, I couldn't.

    ReplyDelete
  6. That's after Plan W: Vince McMahon becoming two-time champ.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Could be passed off as a heel taunt.

    ReplyDelete
  8. LOL @ still thinking about this show 5 hours later

    ReplyDelete
  9. I am finally also getting a chance to go back and watch the Cesaro/Sheamus match. The match itself was great but there was one thing that bugged me more than anything.

STOP LOOKING AT YOUR MONITORS!!!! DON'T YOU REALIZE THAT THE MATCH IS RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF YOU??!!!???? And *gasp* it might even look better in person rather than on a TV screen. Is Vince over there just giving you the thumbs up every time that you say the right comment and giving you the finger any time you get something wrong? I just don't quite get it.

Also and I know this has been brought up many times....why does Sheamus have a name for every move he does? Is he that special in that regard?

I have followed this board for a while and for some reason, tonight seemed a good of a time as any to start posting.

  10. Is AJ still getting tattoos for each title reign? She's going to look like CM Punk soon.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Orton's athletic/flexible enough that he could probably hit all of those counters DDP used without much difficulty. I wonder why they always go for the mid-air RKO. I get that it's the most visually impressive (initially anyway), but it's also the most predictable and played-out.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I don't think I can put it over Okada/Nakamura in good conscience -- big stakes, dream match, and the Rainmaker to end them all.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Also, shout-out to the CMLL commentary team for their work on the Atlantis/UG match. They can be really hit or miss, but here they laid out the long history between both men -- rivals, partners, and enemies all over again -- and their individual achievements on the Anniversario stage. Tremendous work.

    ReplyDelete
  14. and you're probably right..

    ReplyDelete
  15. See, I can't translate any of that.. You may right on the money with that one, for all I know..

    ReplyDelete
  16. There are so many lapse in logic and huge plot holes in WWE's booking. Tonight was an evident example of that. Seth Rollins, who is a chicken shit heel, issues an open challenge. First of all, why is a chicken shit heel looking for a fight? The purpose of the character is that they want to avoid wrestling when they can and take short-cuts. Secondly, he is the MITB holder. Why would he risk being hurt when he could just take the night off? Thirdly, why do another pull-apart brawl with Ambrose/Rollins. It would have been a much bigger surprise if Cena gave Lesnar an AA from the top rope, Rollins hit Cena with the briefcase, Rollins hit the curb stomp, and then Ambrose came out of nowhere to prevent Rollins from cashing-in. It would have been more chaotic and a better way for Ambrose to return.

    ReplyDelete
  17. still think AJ Styles/Minoru Suzuki from G1 is MOTY by far

    ReplyDelete
  18. For what it's worth, Ross has said an announcer should work off his monitor.

    ReplyDelete
  19. They go off the monitor mostly so they can explain things in line with what's being emphasized for the viewer, as well as not to spoil certain things that develop off camera that they'd be able to see.

    ReplyDelete
  20. If they don't do another match between Cena and Brock at Hell In A Cell then they're idiots.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ah ha! Thank you for that input. It just really kinda threw me off for some reason. I guess because it was just so in focus or something.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I guess that does make sense. Appreciate the reply.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think part of that could be the fact that they didn't want to put all of the eggs in one basket that is Ambrose/Rollins. Think about it, with the Cena/Rollins situation it can venture off for a little while before returning to that storyline and hopefully culminating in something great.

Or it can be horrible again, whichever comes first.

    ReplyDelete
  24. If I had to, I think I'm going..

    1. Styles/Suzuki .. 8/1/14
    2. Tanahashi/Shibata .. 9/21/14
    3. Naito/Ishii .. 2/11/14
    4. Okada/Nakamura .. 8/10/14

and there's a half dozen I could place at #5.. Okada matches, Ricochet matches, Ishii matches, Bucks matches.. There's been a couple Dragon Gate tags that were out of this world.. 2014 is a really strong field..

    ReplyDelete
  25. The first 2 matches were really good, however all involved have been "cooled off" and 50/50 booked to death so I didn't feel and sense of urgency. There were no stakes. LOL at Ambrose potentially turning into 2014's Daniel Bryan. Reigns being injured and away is the best thing for him, hopefully they bring him back for a big heel turn ala The Rock.

    ReplyDelete
  26. What is the Shibata/Tanahashi back story?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Agree with just about everything but I liked Jericho and Orton a little more than that.

I think it's just going to be easier to be a fan if I have the mindset of "assume nothing special until it really happens."

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think everyone has been pretty kind to this show. To me, it was boring and pretty terrible. I wish it wasn't, but it was. I didn't even care about the fuck finish. Didn't bother me as much as the current product as a whole is just awful right now.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Re: Tanahashi/Shibata. I'm not a fan of continual strike battles. Once in a match is fine, but over and over lessens the impact. Very good, but I preferred quite a few matches from G1.

    ReplyDelete
  30. In short.. Tanahashi, Nakamura, and Shibata were the three chosen ones.. The company's future was going to be based on them.. We're talking around the beginning of the last decade..

Early on, Nakamura was lucky enough to reap the benefits of an MMA fight with one of the Gracies where he went toe-to-toe and lasted almost 15 minutes. As a 23 year old rookie, this was a huge deal. He was pushed to the top immediately and had the world title in no time.

Tanahashi was more of the slow burn. HBK-style wrestler whose fame was increased by getting stabbed by his girlfriend and that story spreading in the news, but that would have meant nothing had he not become the master that he is today..

Shibata meanwhile noticed the MMA boom and decided he was going with the hot hand and left NJPW to be that MMA dork at the bar. He had a mediocre career at best, and came back to NJPW a couple years ago. Despite being a highly entertaining, incredibly dynamic performer he didn't get the push his talent would be rewarded with. Soon enough, it was reported that Tanahashi (and apparently Nakamura, as well as bookers Jado & Gedo) found him to be disloyal and no big plans for him..

Meanwhile, Tanahashi releases his autobiography, in it detailing his utter disdain for Shibata, calling clumsy and one-dimensional. Repeating that his (Tanahashi) philoshophy for wrestling has nothing to do with slapping each other back and forth and concussing each other for pops, but rather the art of a beautiful match.

There was of course the famous meme: "Things Hiroshi Tanahashi Hates"
    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BkN8BiwCQAEeJe2.jpg

So this match itself is quite the story because Tanahashi, having been defeated at the G1, plays Shibata's game in this one. Even hitting him with his own stiff basement dropkick in the corner, before hitting the two High Fly Flows. Essentually besting shibata once and for all, resulting in Shibata finally shaking his hand and thanking him for giving them that moment, for without Tanahashi that crowd wouldn't be there for NJPW in 2014, and Tanahashi essentially calling it square as much as he can by saying "Welcome Back" to him..

Just a killer story arc to end the feud.. For now..

    ReplyDelete
  31. That AJ match was great stuff. Haven't seen anything of Kyle O'Reilly before but very impressed by that performance.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Right on, it seems like it's kind of gone under the radar..

The stuff after the second commercial break is total creme-of-the-crop type stuff that can't be topped..

    ReplyDelete
  33. Thanks for that. Tanahashi really did stick him with the corner dropkick, didn't he?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Pretty sure that is precisely where they are going, with an Ambrose/Rollins co main event. Is there any indication that this is NOT happening?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Why does any heel in history offer the hundreds of open challenges that they have offered? It's pro wrestling, that's why.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Seemed like a decent show to me, at least compared to most September PPVs. We have pretty much been conditioned to expect weak shows during this period. This one seemed on the upper end of those.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I believe his full quote was "An announcer should work off his monitor, no matter the opinion of these internet fans who think they're so goddamn smart even though they've never worked a day in the business."

    ReplyDelete
  38. Did he really say that? I find it funny that I legit am 50/50 on if he really said it.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Just another fan who just happens to have the same name.

    ReplyDelete
  40. You 2 should have a match, the loser gets called Mick, the winner gets called Mick T. Hire Clarence Mason and set it up.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I agree with you on the boring part, but not the terrible part (Brie's promo aside). Nothing actively sucked in my opinion - just off the top of my head Battleground was far worse than this.

However, this is one of those shows where you won't even remember the card in 6 months because nothing happened. Everyone is in the exact same spot they were in before the show started.

  42. Adam "Colorado" CurrySeptember 22, 2014 at 5:35 AM

I could never be a celeb commentator. "That Miz is a complete fucking jerkoff that can't work for shit!"

    ReplyDelete
  43. Well I'm sure you'll all be thrilled, but I feel Cena is at a slightly higher spot now than he was last month. He seemed to have at least 50% figured out Brock. Yet he never did keep brock down long enough for a super near fall.. So maybe, as Joey would say, it's a "moo point", and Brock will beat him anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  44. If this is setting up Cena vs. Rollins for a month or two while Brock goes on another break, I'm all for that. It's a fresh feud with two guys who can go in the ring, and they actually have a legitimate beef with each other for costing each other their chance at the title.

    ReplyDelete
  45. And that's a shoot, brutha!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. He didn't as far as I know, but clearly he's gotten quite the reputation about his snarky digs at the "IWC"

    ReplyDelete
  47. Adam "Colorado" CurrySeptember 22, 2014 at 5:41 AM

Again, that just makes Rollins look like a fucking moron.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yep, Same for Lance Storm. It's clear from his Twitter, and his old mailbag columns that he really hates smarks. Funny how both of their fan bases is indeed mostly smarks too.

    ReplyDelete
  49. What's Surge? I remember a drink that was apparently called SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURGE!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Did You Know: Every challenger to a title had already held the title they were challenging for...most of them multiple times.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I was 100% certain Rusev and Lana were going to interrupt the National Anthem.

    ReplyDelete
  52. It would only be fair, after the hundreds of times that poor Nikolai and Boris got their anthems interrupted by babyfaces.

    ReplyDelete
  53. NOC would've been a lot better if Reigns could've wrestled. I would have loved to have seen him beat that sissy gymnast Seth Rollins. I hope Reigns gets better soon but I fear that the ratings for RAW will suffer during his absence

    ReplyDelete
  54. Nah. It's time to pull the trigger on Brock vs Sheamus.

    ReplyDelete
  55. So was I in a mood last night or what? I found Sheamus/Cesaro was a drag until the end, i thought Jericho Orton was a lifeless match we have seen 1000 times. So to me the tag match and the main event were the only things worth my time .

    ReplyDelete
  56. The best part of NOC was watching those two overrated jobbers Cesaro and Ziggler jobbing out to superior talents like The Miz and Sheamus.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Nikki Bella was the MVP of the divas match and its a travesty that she didn't walk out of NOC as the Divas Champion. I hope the WWE smartens up and gives us the match we all want to see, Brie vs Nikki for the Divas Title.... I think that fued will help the Divas division gain some credibility because the Bellas strive in ring and a match between them will be magical

    ReplyDelete
  58. Sometimes less is more. 3 "attention seeking" comments in 5 minutes is too much. Pace yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Dolph Ziggler is a lost cause and WWE should send him down to NXT to job to Adrian Neville for a couple of months before redebuting Dolph as The Red Rooster Jr. so he can cut passionate promos of himself going COCKADOODLEDOO and he can finally get rid of his pink homoerotic ring gear. The WWE will never trust him due to his sloppy work which ends up with him getting a concussion every couple of months... If they dont send Dolph down to NXT then they should just release him after he jobs out to younger talent for the next few months.

    ReplyDelete
  60. People care about Cena getting beat to a pulp.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Like I said, I really had no problem with the finish. I just thought the show overall wasn't very good. It felt like they were going through the motions. Nothing (save for Ambrose/Rollins) seemed motivated. The whole thing dragged like a Raw episode.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Did you watch the show on the network, Vince?

    ReplyDelete
  63. yeah, why are you doing these trolling "accusations" like Jobber does? Why the heck does it matter? I'm PRAISING the show, not bitching about it.

Is this like a Justin Watry "you have no right to complain if you don't buy the PPV?" Thing is, I'm saying WWE is fine, and it doesn't need to be changed. So what is the point of this question?

    ReplyDelete
  64. And now I have your new name: "Vince McMahon's Fleshlight".

    ReplyDelete
  65. Definitely going through the motions. Definitely too many PPVs during this period.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Yeah, I would say someone's mommy didn't love him enough.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I was just asking. You never answered me before. You're awful jumpy.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I just think that the Nikki vs Brie fued has a deeper storyline since it has been so well executed and the fact that they're twins..Having a fued with such deep rooted storylines is fantastic especially when we know they can both bring it in the ring... Ambrose vs Rollins feels like im watching Jerry Springer because you can tell there was some kind of physical relationship between Rollins and Ambrose that the WWE is keeping from us...However i commend the WWE for pleasing the LGBT community by having Seth Rollins involved in the mainevent at NOC.

    ReplyDelete
  69. it's that damn spotlight you are flashing in my face darn it!! I WANT MY LAWYER!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. I will just say that I find it funny that it's very early on a monday morning, and you are one of the only ones here right now.... And I keep reading your name as "Matinee". MIND BLOWN. *chugs coffee*

    ReplyDelete
  71. Crack is not a breakfast cereal. Try, ya know, Cheerios or something. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Plan V: Goldust finally wins the big one!

    ReplyDelete
  73. IT IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS WHERE I WAS ON THE NIGHT OF OCTOBER 16, 2012!! I HAVE ALIBIS DAMN IT!!!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Rusev vs Henry delivered big time and was easily the MOTN. I think it could be in the running for MOTY along with the classic Cena vs Kane Stretcher match a few months ago on RAW.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Sure thing, Vince McMahon's Fleshlight.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Extant1979 - Ghetto SuperstarSeptember 22, 2014 at 6:25 AM

I think the pressure is finally getting to Vince.

    ReplyDelete
  77. ... Ya know, there is a certain art form when it comes to trolling... You clealry do not have it.

(Not that I would know anything about this. *quietly leaves*

    ReplyDelete
  78. None of that could hold a candle to the one hour of talking on the preshow.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Yeah, I'm in the office chugging coffee as well. Clearly avoiding actual work.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Extant1979 - Ghetto SuperstarSeptember 22, 2014 at 6:27 AM

Sheamus-Cesaro WAS a drag til the last few minutes, and I zoned out on Y2J-RKO, and then looked up as Jericho was setting up getting RKO'd on the top rope.

I'm not even sure the tag title match held my interest the whole time. Very meh show.

    ReplyDelete
  81. That's a good point. Maybe there's just too many shows. Hard to anticipate anything when you're drowning in it.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Extant1979 - Ghetto SuperstarSeptember 22, 2014 at 6:33 AM

Why wouldn't they milk the Cena-Lesnar teat for one more month?

    ReplyDelete
  83. You're not very good at this.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I don't know what pro wrestling is, but it sounds sort of like Sportz Entertainmentz.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Yep, yesterday's finish was a perfect tease for a final rematch, especially in a Cell. Not for blood, but for "Nobody can interfere".

    ReplyDelete
  86. Your disgusting what?

    Oh, you meant "you're".

    Where has American education gone?

    ReplyDelete
  87. I think his rationale was that the announcer needs to call with the fans on TV are seeing. The problem is that these three dummies can't even do that.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Charismatic eNegro Jef VinsonSeptember 22, 2014 at 6:48 AM

    Who said he was American?

    ReplyDelete
  89. All black people currently live in the United States. Thus, African American!! Zero exceptions!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Its a shame Daniel Bryan got hurt because watching Brock Lesnar destroy him wouldve made sitting through his horrible YES movement worth while....Either way i am glad that for once the WWE is going in the RIGHT direction by building towards a fantastic WM 31 mainevent in Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns. There is no doubt that Roman Reigns is the future of the WWE and having him beat Brock at WM would be HUGE, so kudos to the WWE for giving us what we REALLY want. Daniel Bryan can sit at home and milk his injuries so he can make his Total Divas money but the WWE is thriving without him...

    ReplyDelete
  91. Charismatic eNegro Jef VinsonSeptember 22, 2014 at 6:52 AM

OK, they need to stop putting Brie on the mic. Either be so upset that your sister turned that you don't want to talk about it or go out there and kick your sister's ass and not talk about it..

    ReplyDelete
  92. Who said he was black? Racist much?

    ReplyDelete
  93. Exactly. That way, if something stupid does happen (fan jumps the rail, mainly), hopefully that can be dealt with off-camera while the announcers call the match.

    ReplyDelete
  94. haha, it was just the "Automatic american" part of Vinson's post that I was referring to. :)

    ReplyDelete
  95. Charismatic eNegro Jef VinsonSeptember 22, 2014 at 6:55 AM

Oh, and the "honor the troops thing” is the new "Summerfest"

    ReplyDelete
  96. Okay, who set off the Troll RollCall this morning?

    ReplyDelete
  97. Charismatic eNegro Jef VinsonSeptember 22, 2014 at 6:57 AM

This was asked before, but isn't there a 5 count when someone goes to the top rope? Jericho was up there for a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Good point. I guess I should've said education in general.

    ReplyDelete
  99. There should be but maybe it's one of those rules WWE quietly abolished like when they made closed fists legal.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I remember Jesse Ventura ALWAYS being on Hogan's case for closed fists, like every single match.

    ReplyDelete
  101. So, the show wasn't terrible...but it certainly wasn't memorable. I completely ignored Jericho-Orton part 23718 and cleaned up the dinner dishes instead. The tag match was pretty good, the I-C title such sucked, and Cesaro-Sheamus was okay.

The interesting thing is that it appears they MIGHT (though I doubt it) be transitioning to a Cena-Rollins feud. Of course, we're probably getting Cena-Lesnar III at HIAC instead.

And Rusev needs to destroy Sheamus and win the U.S. title tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Charismatic eNegro Jef VinsonSeptember 22, 2014 at 7:40 AM

The crowd reactions didn't help matters.

    ReplyDelete
  103. perfect match, but started really really slow.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Adam "Colorado" CurrySeptember 22, 2014 at 7:54 AM

Oh yeah, that's what we need, more fucking douchebags around here.

    ReplyDelete
  105. This was my problem with it too. I sat down to start watching the tag title match and it felt like something we'd seen a million times before. Same for the IC Title. And the US Title. Nothing feels fresh or exciting anymore.

And I have no doubt that there will be at least one rematch for those matches mentioned above within the next month.

    ReplyDelete
  106. The one indication I got was Cena running off Rollins. Could be getting a Lesnar vacation, Cena/Rollins and Ambrose/Kane instead.
I'm hoping not, since Cena/Lesnar and Ambrose/Rollins are the most logical Cell matches they've built in years, but you never know.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Worst match: Mark Henry losing to the Fat Talentless Pig. Best Match:Cesaro - Sheamus. I honestly thought Nikki Bella took the bump of the night off the apron, although our panel of international misogynists may disagree.

    ReplyDelete
  108. The recommendations for Network PPVs needs a massive overhaul. It's hard to say that a show where title changes mean nothing (distraction finish again), Rollins/Ambrose have their second PPV non-match, the commentary is awful, and the main event ends in a DQ is worth $9.99, let alone three hours of your life. A year from now, will anybody remember this show, let alone queue it up on the Network for its classic moments?

I don't see how this can be a recommended show in the long run. If you had paid $9.99 for only this show and nothing else on the Network, I doubt it would be viewed as quite the bargain.

    ReplyDelete
  109. As for the first one, Rollins is at the height of his cockiness. Reigns is injured and Rollins thinks he's invincible. Plus, also due to cockiness, he assumes Dean AMbrose is fucking dead in a ditch somewhere. I think that's pretty standard heel stuff.

HTM did the exact same routine at Summerslam '88 and that's one of the most beloved segments EVER.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I look forward to Summerfest every year! All eleven days of it.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Man, I get douche chills just reading your terrible jokes. It's like watching a guy bomb at an open mic. Really hard to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  112. My only issue with it is, why not try and see if Cena is actually going to pull it off, rather than interfere? Cena and Brock aren't the ideal opponents to cash in on, but I'd still take my chances with Cena over Brock.

    ReplyDelete
  113. If no one has answered Scott's question about the referee's gloves in the Uso match, I believe one of the Usos cut his hand and was bleeding. Safety first!

    ReplyDelete
  114. You could argue that there is the potential for Rollins/Cena. Brock could possibly take issue with Rollins also... there are a few ways it could go... I didn't like the finish of the match but at least it made the story somewhat unpredictable.

    ReplyDelete
  115. was going to type the same thing if nobody else did.

    ReplyDelete
  116. But to be fair, the women's match was actually pretty good.

    ReplyDelete
  117. You are almost sounding like Cena/Lesnar in a cell would be a bad thing.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Speaking of finishers, am I the only one getting a little bothered by the amount of times people are kicking out of finishing moves, especially in the main event where they are throwing around 5-6 of them a piece and kicking out of almost all of them? I swear I'm getting to the point where even the F-5 and Attitude Adjustment are Just Another Move that doesn't really mean anymore than a regular suplex or bodyslam.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Eh, when shows like this come about I don't get too upset because I feel they gave me what I put into it: A Sunday night and $9.99. If I had more important things to do tonight and/or paid any more than that, then yes, fuck this company.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Yes the only reason you'd think wwe divas wrestling sucks is misogyny.

    ReplyDelete
  121. It's not necessarily a bad thing, as it could be a great match. But I'm tired of the same matches getting strung out across three PPVs.

If they did Cena-Lesnar III and Rollins-Ambrose as HIAC matches, I could certainly live with that...SO LONG AS Kane does not get involved in Rollins' match.

    ReplyDelete
  122. But they will be in a cell! it is *IMPOSSIBLE* for anyone, EVEN KANE to ever get in!!!!!!! EVER!!! *softball tossed*

    ReplyDelete
  123. Yep, I always felt that Cena has the least protected finishers of any main eventer in history. It's basically commonplace for him to hit the A-A at least 3 times, and have people fight out of the STF a good 3 times too.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Yeah I heard about the Surge return. That was popular as hell when we were in high school. For a while it was the Cool Kids Soda. Anyone could drink Mt. Dew, but it takes a REAL MAN to handle some Surge.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I cringed when she took that bump. Cactus Nikki!

    ReplyDelete
  126. Steve Stennick, is that you?

    ReplyDelete
  127. The Rock-Cena program was damaging enough, but now even the friggin' F-5 seems less important now. I suppose they could always build it back up, but good grief.

    ReplyDelete
  128. You sir have made me very upset with your comment and here are the reasons why...

Is that what you were looking for?

  129. Have you seen Cena apply the STF? I'm not sure Heath Slater would necessarily tap the first time it was applied.

In general, though, I agree: kicking out of finishers (obviously) is using the equity of those moves to show how seriously the wrestlers are taking the match if they kick out of moves that "should" end the match, but, since it happens so often, most people now don't expect the match to end the first time a finisher is used, so the kick out no longer has that surprise factor.

  130. I always felt that even if it's not perfectly executed, we're talking about a guy with superman freakish strength pulling at your neck muscles and knee ligaments as hard as he can. It's gonna friggin hurt no matter what! Brute strength > Technique in this case.
