Want Punk's DVD?

So apparently in response to Punk's legal demands for royalties on his merchandise, WWE has slashed all of Punk's product to ridiculous clearance prices, including his DVD for THREE DOLLARS.  So yeah, I bought that one, although shipping was twice as much as the DVD was.  Get 'em now while you can.

  1. Did anyone listen to the Jericho Podcast where Edge and Jericho were talking about what a (respectable) brat Punk could be?

I guess Edge and Jericho were trying to watch some Hockey finals during a house show and were tagging with Punk, Punk wanted to go over the match, and Edge and Jericho wanted to call it in the ring so they could pay attention to the game as it was on.

Then during the match Punk took it upon himself to not tag in Jericho and to take his sweet ass time working the match as to annoy Jericho and Punk. They get backstage and had a bit of an argument where Punk said Jericho and Edge were being unprofessional, and Edge and Jericho essentially said get back to them in 15 years of experience or so.

Then it dawned on me. CM Punk is John Goodman from The Big Lewboski. An annoying but well intentioned person who sticks to his guns without much in the way of civility or compromise. "You're not wrong! You're just an asshole!"

  2. Got it.

As my second favorite wrestler ever, and definitely my favorite of the new era guys, at 3 dollars this was definitely a must buy.

  3. Nobody does passive-aggressiveness like WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I'm good thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I mean, Punk always sounds like a really self-serious jackwad, but I feel like that personality is what got him this far, since a less forceful guy would have been cut.

As long as you're not being Teddy Hart about it, being confident and super serious about THIS BUSINESS can be a huge boon.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I kind of want his baseball cap too. That's pretty fucking clean.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I mean, the entire documentary part of the DVD, which is the main reason to get it, is already on the Network.

For just...shit, I don't even remember. Get it together, WWE, and let people know how much this funky-ass Network costs! You're dropping the damn ball!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Indeed. I mean, is CM Punk the only one around here who GIVES A SHIT ABOUT THE RULES!?!

    ReplyDelete
  9. The Paige/AJ feud is actually WWE's master plan - they know Punk doesn't care about the money and the glory, the partying or the lifestyle, all he cares about is sex. And who's the hottest girl in wrestling CM Punk has yet to have sex with (aside from Lana)? Paige. They purposely brought Paige up to the main roster when Punk left and have had her feuding with AJ ever sinceso that when Punk watches Raw he sees how much younger/sexy/talented than AJ Paige is. Eventually Punk will get bored of jacking it to Raw every Monday watching some hot British chick beat up his fiance and come back to wrestle but really to hook up with Paige

  10. To be fair, that's not unusual for the WWE to do. They routinely put DVDs down to ridiculous price after a few years. I have a ton of WWE DVDs and Blu Rays that I've bought for under $5 from the website when they go on sale. This might not be a move against Punk.

Then again, it could be. I dunno.

    ReplyDelete
  11. To review, WWE would rather lose money on one of its most bankable former names than pay him royalties.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Now I want to buy this CM Punk merchandise, dye and slick back my hair and speak with a pronounced Chicago accent for some reason. Also be taller and thinner.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Were it just the DVD I'd agree, but this is everything left under his name getting blown out. The timing is just too coincidental.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I thought the same thing. That's a nice design without any of the typical ridiculous WWE-ized crap on it.

Walter is delusional, traumatized by seeing the flower of a generation being taken by the Good Lord in Vietnam; Punk is an arrogant, egotistical, whiny prick who is a mid 30's-version of the snarky kid in middle school who doesn't listen to anyone else because he (mistakenly thinks he) knows it all.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think you have a point here. Guys like he and Shawn weren't going to get far being diplomatic.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I always feel as though nice guys like Bryan need fans to do the fighting for them, because they're not going to do the necessary politicking themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Can't put a price on pettiness!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I love how Daniel Bryan schemed and manipulated his way to the top!

No shirts available anymore? Crap, I would have bought a discounted "Best in the World" shirt, combined with a "Best for Business" shirt, to remind everyone at my job and in my life that those things mean I'm better than them.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Nothing like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Tell me again that Punk will be back before Wrestlemania.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Anyone want to get a pool started on when he will be back? I say second week of January

    ReplyDelete
  23. What makes you say Daniel Bryan?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ray Rice will be back in the NFL before Punk comes back to WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  25. LOL to the people that paid >$500 for a Punk shirt!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Extant1979 - Ghetto SuperstarSeptember 8, 2014 at 4:34 PM

Randy Savage - and Lanny Poffo - will be inducted into the Hall of Fame before Punk comes back.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The other items:
    1. An Easy Reader book that's gone from $5 to $1.29- only book of the series that's discounted.
    2. Fathead- $100 to $30. Only Fathead on the site that's discounted that much.
    3. A $200 plaque that's now $60- only two plaques are discounted, and the other is a 10% discount...
    4. Baseball hat- $20 to $3. Only other discounted hat is Cena's, weirdly enough, from $20 to $10.
    5. Pendant- $12 to $2. no other pendants are discounted. But finger rings are CHEAP- they even discounted HHH's, and he's still around!
    6. Wrist sleeves. Well, no one else has them.

I take it back- clearly they're blowing out Punk's merchandise. So yeah, looks like a mess-with-Punk thing.

On the other hand, it's all old merch, and I'm sure none of it is a top seller. And if Punk and WWE resolve things, they'll just come out with new merch. I'd love to know, though, how much money they ate on merch that was in the pipeline for Punk when he walked. It's not like merch can be made on the spot- it takes some time to design that stuff and (presumably) get it made in China and boat it over. I'm sure they ate a sizable amount of money there.

But yeah, interesting. Wonder if I could wear those sleeves to work. I'm a 43-year old guy in IT. They'd keep my hands warm!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Chris Benoit will main event a Wrestlemania before Punk comes back.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Punk said right after he left that he and Vince would text all the time. I don't think Punk is on the Lex Luger/Jeff Jarrett list.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Shut up, Donnie! You're out of your element!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Extant1979 - Ghetto SuperstarSeptember 8, 2014 at 4:37 PM

Maybe I believe that with the new Savage DVD coming out, that there's a deal that's been made.

    ReplyDelete
  32. That was then. This is now.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Then
    Now
    Forever

    ReplyDelete
  34. I just don't see it. Vince doesn't seem to take 99% of his beefs personal. I don't see why this would be. If anything Vince loves people that will fight him.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Extant1979 - Ghetto SuperstarSeptember 8, 2014 at 4:38 PM

LOL to any person that pays $500 for ANY shirt.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Those $500 shirts the Rock used to wear were totally worth every dime.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm pretty sure Luger's not still on that list.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Extant1979 - Ghetto SuperstarSeptember 8, 2014 at 4:39 PM

From all indications, Punk has said he was done. Why do you assume this is Vince?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Cause no wrestler is ever done. Once he hears what he wants to hear then he will be back.

    ReplyDelete
  40. (Total bullshit speculation that has no basic in fact)Wonder if there's a clause in the merch contract that the talent is responsible for costs below the cost of the merch. Like if the shirt costs $5 to make and they sell it for $3, Punk owes for each shirt

    ReplyDelete
  41. Extant1979 - Ghetto SuperstarSeptember 8, 2014 at 4:42 PM

Eh. Dude did everything he wanted to do that was within his power to attain. He's not main eventing WrestleMania - the seeming last item on his wrestling bucket list - so I don't see much incentive for him coming back.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Am I the only who finds the vicarious fucking of Divas through the collective imaginary Punk creepy?

    ReplyDelete
  43. I don 't think they would ever have clearance sales if that were the case.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I've had "Best in the World" on my checks since 2007.

    ReplyDelete
  45. DVD? Who would event want it? A bunch of HD matches you'd want to go blu ray only on.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Extant1979 - Ghetto SuperstarSeptember 8, 2014 at 4:44 PM

    I haven't written a check - or actually had any - since about 2009.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I want to say no, but still in the back of my head I keep thinking this is still a big work and he'll show up long after everyone has gotten over it.

    ReplyDelete
  48. You know Vince'd put it in if he could though (Well, in this case HHH I'd imagine)

    ReplyDelete
  49. They should've just discounted all of Punk's stuff to $9.99

    ReplyDelete
  50. You sick freak, thinking about Punk like that.

On the other hand, if you're thinking about AJ or Paige, then okay.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Extant1979 - Ghetto SuperstarSeptember 8, 2014 at 4:46 PM

Don't forget about the John Cena-CM Punk toothbrush pack discounted down to 99 cents.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ha, no way people would sign that contract (well, I'm sure there would be some). Reminds me of some crazy indentured servitude contract in colonial Virginia.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I try to keep my wrestling collection dvd only for consistency purposes. Plus, it's wrestling so it doesn't really need to be seen in HD.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I don't think it's a work but once WWE gets desperate they will give him what he wants.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Ever since Vince took over North American wrestling he's been taking stuff from guys. It's a been a slow process but he will eventually have guys paying him to work.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Highly kinetic things like wrestling I actually lean more toward "need to be in HD" but to each their own. I do make exceptions for DVDs like when I find them cheaply at a flea market or something like that or I don't think a blu ray is ever forthcoming.

    ReplyDelete
  57. The onerous contracts and huge barrier to entry for professional wrestling as it is is a huge reason why they have hardly any talent under 25 with any serious prospects.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Network number reveal after people can cancel post Summerslam. It is going to be brutal since Night of Champions is a bunch of rematches of shit we've seen the last bunch of PPVs. They'll get desperate and throw Punk some kind of high paying part time gig. I'll be really impressed if he sticks to his guns and tells them no.

    ReplyDelete
  59. anyone ever notice that the cobra and pepsi tattoos he's got have been altered on the dvd case?!

    ReplyDelete
  60. It seems they are using the Trading Places theory. They think they can find some schmo on the streets and teaching him how to work. It's being tested with Reigns. If he succeeds enough then I don't see them stopping.

    ReplyDelete
  61. They have some weird deal where they can show them when he's live in person (obviously) but they can't do anything in video games.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Extant1979 - Ghetto SuperstarSeptember 8, 2014 at 4:53 PM

Copyright issues with Pepsi and Hasbro. They don't appear on his action figures, either.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Now thats just disrespectful

    ReplyDelete
  64. No way Punk would have signed such a deal. He got them to pony up to use Cult of Personality after all.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Thanks for the heads up, but after shipping, it was actually cheaper on Amazon, cause I have Prime. And, for another $5 or so, I opted for the blu-ray version.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Eh, I know, just would have made for an insane story business wise.

    ReplyDelete
  67. There is no reason he should say no if they give him everything he wants plus some. He's already made his point so there would be nothing left to prove.

    ReplyDelete
  68. The shipping charge is ridiculous. If you have Amazon Prime, it's cheaper there.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Sports, yes. Sports entertainment, no. The HD affects the realism a bit for me. Kevin Dunn tries to cover this up with constant camera cuts and crazy angles, but it doesn't really work.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Yeah it is kinda weird, but at least we're not vicariously fucking through X-Pac

    ReplyDelete
  71. Harlan Leverage IIISeptember 8, 2014 at 5:12 PM

Eh. I'll wait until next time he pisses them off, so I only have to pay $1.99.

    ReplyDelete
  72. THAT is the Rock that I wouldn't mind coming back again.

    ReplyDelete
  73. $1.99 MYGGLE!

    ReplyDelete
  74. His DVD was really great, and it was nice to see someone with such great passion for the business.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I was being a cheapie when I bought it, and I went DVD since there was nothing on the bluray extras that I really needed for the extra $5. Cause of course I had to have it when it came out.

And HOW DARE PUNK ASK FOR THE ROYALTIES HE'S EARNED!

    ReplyDelete
  76. I think he just wants to be retired though.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I'd like to see Ray Rice in the UFC.

Cause he'd be the one getting knocked the fuck out.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Lex does some of the talking head stuff.

Really I'd love it if Punk did more of that.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Jesus I need to order more.

It's how I pay my rent.

    ReplyDelete
  80. The Rock says IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT PEOPLE WHO PAY $500 FOR SHIRTS!

    ReplyDelete
  81. It's obvious they're signing CP MUNK from Chicira and want to avoid any marketplace confusion.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Well, passionate until Royal Rumble 2014...

    ReplyDelete
  83. I'd rather bang Alexis Bliss or Emma before Paige.

Eva Marie for that matter. I know she's a shitty worker but that doesn't mean she can't get the D.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Pretty much everything on the DVD, outside of the OVW and early ECW stuff is on the network.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Punk wouldn't have to PAY for the shirts, that's ridiculous. The shirts are WWE property -- they're stamped with their copyright and logo.

What they're basically doing is selling the shirts for nothing so Punk reaps the least amount of royalties possible.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Luger isn't on bad terms anymore. Neither is Jarrett, actually. He has said that Vince reached out to him after his wife died. They'll probably still not work together, but they don't hate each other.

I'd say Punk has a chance at coming back as long as Vince is alive and running the company. Once Triple H is in charge that door is closed.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Adam Carolla would call that "Fuck me money"

    ReplyDelete
  88. Do what we do with ours, wear em to the bar... oh the looks...

    ReplyDelete
  89. Recent Tweet from Punk that sums up "Will Punk ever be back?" question for me:

"John Hughes made amazing movies. Movies with characters that spoke to
me. Timeless unforgettable stories. Then he disappeared. Respect."

For those who don't know, John Hughes was the Chicago filmmaker he made The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller, etc. After making a ton of dough and a dozen classic movies he just peaced out in 1994 and lived the rest of his life in private (he died in 2009).

I think Punk was trying to make a point.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Ah the pettiness of WWE sometimes...

    ReplyDelete
  91. Months ago I picked up a Punk shirt for $4.99. I actually dig the clearance section, grabbed a Performance Center tee in there for under $4. Can't complain on prices, just shipping to lovely Alberta.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Sigh, yes, I realize Punk wouldn't have to. Should have worded it differently to something like "I bet Vince would love to....bla bla bla" but fuck it

    ReplyDelete
  93. Adam "Colorado" CurrySeptember 8, 2014 at 6:26 PM

Or in any of the video games.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Segment death for 500 Alex...

    ReplyDelete
  95. Vince: "You want your royalties, Phil? Fine. Enjoy this check for $9.99!"

    ReplyDelete
  96. Aw, the item is no longer available. Oh well. I would've wanted to BluRay, anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  97. His shirts and sweatshirt are basically all gone. Crap. I wanted the white one or his gray long sleeve

    ReplyDelete
  98. I've seen it though

You're joking right? I've seen Baby's Day Out, one of the worst movies ever made, John Hughes put out duds for money just like anyone else. It wasn't just the one either, pretty sure he made that Dennis the Menace movie and Beethoven.

  100. Maid in Manhattan.

    ReplyDelete
  101. What city is punk from again. Its so hard to remember.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Eh.....I wouldn't say the door is closed with Trips. He's shown with the Warrior deal that he can really make bygones be bygones.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Dude was born into a white trash family of addicts and losers and ended up retired at 35 with millions in the bank and a fitness model for a wife.

    So...I'd say he knows something.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Lol Paige is not hotter than AJ.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Punk has no other marketable skills than wrestling, he'll come back.

    ReplyDelete
  106. She is a million % hotter! AJ has a cute face but the body of a 12 year old boy

    ReplyDelete
  107. Yes you can... $9.99 to be exact.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Well on one hand, it does make sense for them to cut the prices if they want to cut all ties with him and make sure this doesn't linger on for years. After all his WWE branded merchandise is gone and the check stop coming in, just maybe he will want to come back one day.

    ReplyDelete
  109. and Paige has the body of a 14 year old girl. A step above, but I'd still take a woman built like Layla over both of them.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Really? I would say Paige has the body of a 18-22 year old chick, which is what she is. Nothing like AJ's muscular 12 year old boy body. Lana > both of them though

    ReplyDelete
  111. What could he POSSIBLY buy for $9.99???

    ReplyDelete
  112. The Love-Matic Grampa!September 9, 2014 at 9:16 AM

So...I guess this means that a Wrestlemania 31 return is off the table? Not that there was much room on said table, what with all that money laying around...

    ReplyDelete
  113. He had his named removed from Maid in Manhattan because it had little to do with the script he wrote (which wasn't even set in Manhattan. Being John Hughes, it was set in Chicago).

    ReplyDelete
  114. John Hughes died in Manhattan.

    I'm just saying.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Then he became...wait for it....

  117. If things keep up the way they're going, a few shares of WWE stock.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Agree on Lana.. but I always preferred MILFS over teens anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  119. They left the Spitfire tattoo that he has over the Cobra symbol on his figures and promo shots for a while before they realized "oh shit, that's copyrighted too." It was kinda funny, because Photoshopping out the Cobra logo but leaving the piece above that framed it made his arm look really stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Lana is in no way a MILF.

    ReplyDelete
  121. That's because you're buying into the narrative WWE itself has set-up about him.

There is no way Bryan made it to the main-event of WrestleMania and the WWE title without politicking. That is im-fucking-possible.

    ReplyDelete
  122. 12 year old boys do not have dem thighs or dem abs.

Paige has the body of the average athletic teenager and a below-average face. She is really nothing exceptional in the looks department for anything but British standards of beauty.
