WWE Network hosting other companies

Hi Scott,
So it's a given that this will never happen but let's say hypothetically the WWE were to strike a deal with another wrestling company ala UFC and Invicta which would make the most sense for both companies?
ROH: still a somewhat dedicated fanbase who might plop down money to see them on the network and they're small enough that even Vince wouldn't be paranoid they would steal his spotlight. On the other hand it's similar to Invicta that if you're a fan of ROH you probably have the App already, also ROH doesn't need it because they basically cost nothing at this point and are owned by a media distributor.
TNA: About to get dumped by their distributor (probably), enough name talent to draw some buzz and get numbers on the network, but WWE wouldn't pay enough for the content to keep them afloat and Vince would want to bury them into the ground just because he's old and cranky and he hasn't done it in a while.
Have a good one,
Sean

New Japan, by far.  They've already poached Devitt and KENTA and it would actually work as an alternative for guys to work when they need to freshen up.  We've all been saying for ages they should just get the rights to some of the shows from last year, re-dub them, and show them on the Network.  Wouldn't make a lick of difference for subscriptions, but it would be awesome for the future of the company and help to boost NJPW's standing.

  1. Thoughts of Tom Phillips calling Nakamura matches.. I'm having nightmares..

  2. WWE should create several more smaller shows like NXT, each with a different roster. Hand them over to different booking teams, and air them all on the network. Each show does shows in different parts of the country, essentially creating a new territory system for guys to develop in, learning to work smaller crowds.

  3. Yeah...I really don't want to see WWE commentary on NJPW matches. Jim Ross announcing would pique my interest, but that's about it.

  5. Would WWE be secure enough to broadcast (and advertise) shows which blow their own away for quality? WCW couldn't do it with AAA in the mid-nineties. I have my doubts that now would be a whole lot different (not that I wouldn't love to see this year's G1 show all in one place).

  6. "Wouldn't make a lick of difference for subscriptions..." - I think that's key. Is there a company they could strike a deal with that would actually help the Network in any way? I'm not sure a different company would draw in too many new fans, but it might help with renewals. If the WWE Network was the only place fans could see a compelling, original weekly show, then hopefully they would keep subscribing.

Then again, the question would be can they do this with NXT? Or would it be cheaper to do it with NJPW or another company?

  8. I actually think adding NJPW would have an impact on subscribers. I really think that the only people subscribing are hardcore wrestling fans (definitely not the casual fans who watched in college during the attitude era) and New Japan would def appeal to them. But what do I know, I'm in Canada and don't have Rogers as my cable company, so I 'aint getting it regardless

  9. This could work with my idea that they have a "WWE Network" champion who only defends his title on Superstars, Main Event, nXt, and PPV and anything else that is only on the network.

  10. Vince wouldn't want anything on the Network that he wouldn't have direct control over.

  12. I really hope that Dana White pulls the trigger on getting Metamoris for FightPass. I enjoyed straight Jiu Jitsu competition way more than I thought I would.

  13. NJPW did six figures for the G1 finals on iPPV. I wonder how much UStream pays for it.

  14. Funny how when the company was in dire straits, they did ANYTHING to get viewers including having ECW, NWA and UFC stars on their shows. They were desperate for new viewers then. They could easily make short term licensing deals with NJPW or ROH that would help them all in the long run. They really have nothing to lose.

  15. Six figures? Only if it's in Japan.

Straight from Meltzer, responding to NJPW's U.S. IPPV figures: "Very small, under 1500 and probably well under that most of the time."
