30 Years of WrestleMania

I had a great chat with Brian Shields, author of new book "30 Years of WrestleMania," discussing working behind the scenes with WWE, his favorite Mania memories, and predictions for WrestleMania 31.

Part 2 of the interview with his thoughts on Triple H, Cena, Ambrose, and more will be posted over the weekend.

Thanks!

You're welcome!

  1. Remender loves the "ringer" stories.

  2. Looking forward to picking this up. Does it talk Benoit? I remember the WWE 50th book was up front over the circumstances of his death and such and hard to do a Mania book without any mention of him, especially XX.

  3. These two are incapable of putting on a bad match together if they tried.

  4. There are reviews of the book that say Benoit is there. I have seen a screenshot of WM23 where it does mention he beat MVP to retain the US Title so the results are definitely available. But supposedly, they are even HIGHLIGHTING him now which makes me wonder if they actually talk about the triple threat in detail with pics and such.

  5. They can't be that talented otherwise they'd still be with TNA. I'd like to see an iron man match with Magnus and Robbie E. The real blue chippers of TNA.

  6. Is anyone going to Mania 31? I'm in the UK and thinking about splashing out on one of those VIP packages...

  7. We should know, they've had a best of four-thousand series.

  8. Remember when this match was new and exciting? LOVED these matches but they kind of killed it having it every other week.

  9. Just checked a review that skimmed through every page and I can confirm that Benoit is indeed talked about with all his matches discussed in detail with pictures included.

  10. One of the greatest Don West calls of all time: "If you don't appreciate what these two are doing right here...YOU DON'T HAVE A SOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUULLLLLLLL!!!"

It's known that Benoit will never be celebrated and inducted into the HoF, but I always figured they'd finally acknowledge him again eventually. Even his big moments. It's hard to ignore someone who was such a big part of his era forever.

  12. Some of those spots were incredible; Daniels catching AJ with the Death Valley driver off AJ's springboard attempt was great, as was the finish of the third fall.

  13. True, I don't expect them to put him in the Hall of Fame or anything. But there's absolutely nothing wrong with acknowledging him historically or giving him his due by admitting that he was a great wrestler who was a big part of wrestling history. Now if they start talking about how he's a role model or a great man (not that I believe he's evil or anything) THEN it's understandable that someone would take offense to those statements.

As the WWE Network has shown it, it's possible to treat him separately. There's the wrestler who is undoubtedly one of the greatest ever and there's the man who disappointed millions of loyal fans as well as friends and families who came to know him as an honorable family man.
