  1. Jobber ... the NBA Pacific Podcast is up... written Pacific preview up later today.

Also, if anyone missed it last night, the Titans of Wrestling interviewed Tito Santana... Arriba!

  2. So what if that Domestic Abuse charge involves Steve Austin in 2002 or John Cena today?

    ReplyDelete
  3. I was going to say Zero tolerance unless it happened a long time ago and we want you to get in shape for a Wrestlemania comeback.
I'm out of the loop what did Cena do?

    ReplyDelete
  4. TJ: I am the Leon Lett of my weekly pickup Volleyball game. I keep making major screwups, but my teams seems to win anyway.

"Now someone touches the volleyball here.... IT'S VINCE JORDAN!! NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Where has the domestic abuse rule suddenly just popped up from? It's quite a big story here I'm England at the minute with a convicted rapist maybe rejoining his football club but can't see that being anything to do with it.

Is there some news being leaked soon that will have someone in the locker room a little worried?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Nothing that I've read, he probably meant it more in a "oh that's bullshit, they'd never get a top guy on this". But I don't know, it's different than their "stringent" roids policy that miraculously misses Rock and HHH. If there's a Ray Rice-like video of Cena knocking Nicki out?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Nothing yet, but since he's the top guy I wonder if they would punish him.

    ReplyDelete
  8. The NFL got extremely bad publicity for going easy on domestic abuse charges, and are finally now waking up about it (Mostly due to extreme pressure and backlash). So basically, WWE is getting ahead of the curve, saying "Unlike the NFL, we won't tolerate it".

    ReplyDelete
  9. Well. Good thing that rule wasn't in place for Austin.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Oh does this new domestic abuse status within the company bring charges to Yamaguchi-San for chopping off Val Venis' manhood in 1998?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Plus a player in the NHL just got busted, too. WWE is hopping on-board while it's a hot topic issue.

    ReplyDelete
  12. No one cares.

    ReplyDelete
  13. You are a very bitter and sad person. Was just trying to have fun there, lighten the f*ck up.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm sorry. See, with five hours a week of pick-up volleyball talk on the other boards I frequent, I understand that sometimes some postings may be a little boring.

    ReplyDelete
  15. http://www.theguardian.com/books/2014/oct/18/am-i-being-catfished-an-author-confronts-her-number-one-online-critic

This whole story is just insane

    ReplyDelete
  16. If a video like that came out, Cena would be gone. It'd hurt them for a while at house shows, but they'd just slot someone into the position.

We're talking a video though. If it was just an accusation from Nikki or something? She'd quietly take a large settlement and nobody would know anything.

    ReplyDelete
  17. That's dangerously close to saying Cena's beating up Nikki.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I imagine Make a Wish would be pretty pissed too.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sooooo long... I tried to read it, I really really did, but can you please give the gist of it?

    ReplyDelete
  20. That wouldn't count as domestic abuse. The time he nearly spanked her with a big paddle, THAT could have qualified. "Sleeping with a porn star. That's a paddlin'! "

    ReplyDelete
  21. People are just so desperate for Cena to go away, they are rooting for him to beat up his girl. That is just sad.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Do you guys play in sand or indoors? I love to volley ball but just with friends at the beach, and we always institute a spiking rule which I break everytime I get a chance. Fuck setting some up, I wanna smash it!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh man, all I know, this year Warriors go 82-0.

    ReplyDelete
  24. It really isn't that long and it's well worth reading.

Basically an author was so disturbed by a one star review, she decided to stalk the reviewer and uncovered she wasn't exactly who she said she was. It's a crazy story that's quasi-blown up. Ironically, in a story about stalking and obsession, I've become obsessed with it.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Good thing Vince and HHH aren't obsessed with bad reviews on this site!

    ReplyDelete
  26. At least my team wins most of the time, no 50/50 booking there! lulz

    ReplyDelete
  27. If Cena or Bryan do it I'll hold a fundraiser for their legal defense team.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Steve's talking about how the response from the X7 commentary was so crazy huge that he'll definitely do 13 in a few weeks.

    Boooooiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing

    ReplyDelete
  29. It's a good thing no members of the WWE locker room has ever smacked around their wife or killed their family so Vince can take this moral high ground.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I actually listened to it 2 hours ago, it was kind of weird to not be able to follow the match while hearing it. Still good stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Clean slate I guess! Just don't do it from now on!

    ReplyDelete
  32. If they counted shitting in someone's bag an assault charge, there would probably be only five guys on the roster.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yeah it's definitely more fun if you stream it along with him, it's still a crazy deep insight into the psychology of wrestling, Steve basically admitting "If this match hadn't been so hot half of this shit we couldn't have gotten away with, but we knew it would be HOT so...fuck it." was pretty interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Since there's so many Cosby marks here:

    http://time.com/3525865/hannibal-buress-bill-cosby/

    ReplyDelete
  35. It's crazy that Austin and Rock each made like a million bucks from that one match.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I can't believe it never dawned on the wwe to have whole shows or individual matches on the network with key participants providing a new commentary track exactly like Austin did. That would have to be cheaper than making a reality show or cartoon no one watches and it would be something people would want to see.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Luckily I don't love Bill Cosby as much as I love Woody Allen so I don't have to get involved with this one

    ReplyDelete
  38. SUPER cheap to make, you don't even need the guys in the same room. Bret and Steve could do commentary on 13 from Calgary and Los An-Gell-Eeeeees, respectively.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I don't buy the blu-rays, but they don't do that even on blu-rays? That's stupid. Like you said, super easy to produce.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think Jake the Snake had some commentary about his WM 3 match, but that's the only example I can think of.

    ReplyDelete
  41. They'll do it for like, one match on a DVD of sixteen matches, and usually not with both participants but instead with one participant and Cole or someone.

    ReplyDelete
  42. So...is Cole there to make sure whoever is talking doesn't go "off script" or something?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Nah, it's just a misdemeanor. Defamation via defecation.

    ReplyDelete
  44. So there's only 3 episodes of impact left right? I saw the preview for tonight and that one thing still hasn't even happened? Wow.

Did anyone see BFG? Was it garbage?

    ReplyDelete
  45. I've known about this for a while. This isn't surprising, especially when they talk about how he went about his business. Straight up predatory actions.

    ReplyDelete
  46. They are way more than 3 episodes left, because NBC, CBS and Fox are all battling for the rights to sign them to a 10 year, multi billion dollar contract as we speak. They are just keeping it a secret right now. [/WWF1987]

    ReplyDelete
  47. Me too. I think the story is more a black comic going after him since Cosby is so revered. But Hannibal is great that he doesn't give a fuck.

    ReplyDelete
  48. He needs to get Bret on with him and do 96 and 13 in one shot together.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Just to keep them on track really, the only example I can really think of is off one of the Shawn 3 disc sets, and Shawn gets sidetracked super fucking easy so it was kind of helpful in that case.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Steve mentions casually that he talks to Brock Lesnar about once a month, it's weird to imagine those two as good friends especially with the way Steve walked out.

    ReplyDelete
  51. It's funny (well, not "ha ha") that the "story" is more Buress (in Philly, no less!) going after Cosby instead of talking about what most in the industry already know. And since Cosby has gone on record in attacking people in the AA community, I wondered why no one has really pointed out the TREMENDOUS hypocrisy that his life is.

    ReplyDelete
  52. If it is Cena or someone else unless there is a smoking gun like the ray rice video they would let "due process" take it's course and hope Nikki or whoever would drop the charges in the mean time and if not they would cut him if he actually was found guilty of anything.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yeah, but he never had a problem with jobbing to Brock - just jobbing to Brock with little to no build. The writers were always the issue.

    ReplyDelete
  54. http://www.wrestlezone.com/editorials/516249-wrestling-observer-hall-of-fame-ballot

Oh this fucking pisses me off so much. One why does this fat pig have a vote, and two omg are you fucking kidding me with this ballot. Ivan Koloff???? Over sting? No. Any asshole could have done a switch with Bruno. That means jack shit. The WWF thought so much of his title run they never brought it once when he was Boris Zukov.

Punk should get in on elite work rate alone. And Lesnars time wrestling is far shorter than punks.Sting is a dead horse I've beaten into a pulp

    ReplyDelete
  55. You making fun of someone else's irrational fandom is hilarious.

    ReplyDelete
  56. "That wasn't blood when Austin was in the sharp shooter. Those were tears because of how well I carried the match".

    ReplyDelete
  57. Makes sense. Probably something about Jesus blowjobs. I can see it.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I actually think if cw picks them up it could be like when fox got the NFL.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I thought it was a done deal much like the NFL Fox CBS and NBC are going to split the rights.

    ReplyDelete
  60. IIRC, Ivan Koloff was MAJORLY over back then. His title reigns with the Russians were way past his prime, though.

    ReplyDelete
  61. It still just seems weird to me, he also mentioned when talking about Jericho's recent career that, "Guys like me, no disrespect, but I can't see if I came back me doing any favors."

    Steve's podcast fucking rules

    ReplyDelete
  62. Yes, because me thinking that WWE is at the very least acceptable these days is totally the same as WCW1987 thinking that TNA is thriving. YEP!!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Why does Mark Madden get a vote in the first place? Maybe it's just me, but any Hall of Fame that allows Mark Madden to submit a ballot should be discredited as thoughtcrime.

    ReplyDelete
  64. "Well you know, wrestling, and things of that nature, you know, it's, you know" x5000000

    ReplyDelete
  65. Something, something, Tear in his eye, something...

    ReplyDelete
  66. There seems to be too much anger overall about a totally fictional hall of fame about a fake sport. With that said, Yes, Sting should be in. One of the most iconic names of the 80's and 90's.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Both are equally insane.

    ReplyDelete
  68. His logic astounds me as well. Lesnar's tenure is even shorter than Punk's, yet he supports his inclusion. Ivan Koloff as the greatest Russian character ever is an insult that I can't even begin to dignify.

    ReplyDelete
  69. When you get pissed at the troll the roll wins bud.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Ruined the goddamn interview with that!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Extant1979 Most Must-See BoDerOctober 21, 2014 at 8:51 AM

    Ivan Koloff was Boris Zukov?

    ReplyDelete
  72. I read that a couple days ago - great article

    ReplyDelete
  73. I'm so pissed about Maddens HOF ballot. Not only is it offensive to me but WHY DOES HE GET A VOTE?

I know Dave took a few shots at Scott about one of his books and and theres some heat toward him on that board but Mark Madden having a vote and Scott Keith not having one is stupid. Of course I'm the one that should really make these kind of calls but what can you do?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Wrong Russians:
    Ivan - NWA
    Boris - AWA

    ReplyDelete
  75. The thing is though Mark Madden is super cool because he always calls it fake wrestling. Which shows that he's quite funny and edgy, man.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Mark Madden is still a thing? Did I wake up in 1999?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Look at his photo on the page and realize...that is the picture he chose to be his icon for his articles! He looks 105 and confused on who took his porridge.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I was stoked as fuck for the Bret/Shawn DVD and that whole time was just...Shawn is the greatest wrestler ever, maybe a top 10 promo ever, but in shoots I can't think of anyone worse at telling stories.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Wow it was a different guy. They look exactly the same though.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I have no idea why. It's outrageous.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I'm so pissed at you for posting this now I'm hearing that nicotine and tar filled throat screech about Vince Russo on Nitro in my head.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Extant1979 Most Must-See BoDerOctober 21, 2014 at 8:55 AM

You definitely made me doubt myself and go check Wiki once I read that, because you're right, they do look similar.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Agreed. He's terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  84. They all look alike, AMIRITE?

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete

Krusher Kruschev turned into Zhukov. Duh.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Extant1979 Most Must-See BoDerOctober 21, 2014 at 8:57 AM

Notable quote from Madden, though: "No one I vote for ever gets in."

    That's pretty telling.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Depends, do you still have your sunshine or has it been stolen?

    ReplyDelete
  89. I tell ya, if last night's Raw was specifically designed to get fans to cool on Ambrose and get excited about Roman Reigns to come back and claim his rightful spot as most popular new babyface--- job well done.

That dummy segment was a Worst of the Year candidate and then getting pinned clean by Randy Orton? Hahahaha, amazing. Throw in a month of playing Cena's wacky little buddy and honestly I'm ready for Rollins to get the win Sunday and get ready for the real feud with Reigns.

Good god this show sucks right now. They absolutely deserve for Raw ratings to start nosediving into the low 2.0s.

    ReplyDelete
  90. huh...I just checked his facebook..I would have sworn there would have been a dog picture up there.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Only about 3 seconds of More More More have been stolen

    ReplyDelete
  92. The "medicine ball" head is Zhukov's telling feature. Ivan's head was never that... unusual.

    ReplyDelete
  93. WELL THAN, someone's a Negative Nancy!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Thanks. Now it's in my head.

    ReplyDelete
  95. So just replace Ambrose with Daniel Bryan/ He's getting buuurrriieeddd, and the sky is falling?

    ReplyDelete
  96. Why's it an insult? Ivan Koloff ended the longest WW(W)F title reign in history and was a pretty big figure in wrestling for over 20 years.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I was listening to an old Cornette interview on YT, and he mentioned how the fed didn't want people getting over, because they were selling the brand and having one over the brand hurts them overall.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Well, yeah. That's basically the root of all WWE's problems right now.

    ReplyDelete
  99. No, but it's hard to argue that Ambrose isn't getting the most reaction out of almost everyone on the roster. I don't think he was "buried", but it's clear he's not the guy they want taking the lead.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I've never heard his radio show but I imagine it's 4 hours a day of him calling out which pro athletes do or do not deserve his respect (gotta love the industry of old fat white racist radio hosts critiquing professional athletes), and then him oggling Pittsburgh strippers and making lame sex jokes as if his dick has actually worked since the Nitro era.

    ReplyDelete
  101. On Eddie's dvd, they had RVD and Eddie do commentary over their ladder match. Cole was there too but it had both participants.

    ReplyDelete
  102. That's the dumbest fucking logic I've ever heard.

Hogan = huge name, biggest money for everyone.
Austin = huge name, biggest money for everyone.

Last I checked, a company wants to make money. Maybe I'm wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I have zero problem with the Assassins going in, and its not so much koloffs inclusion (although like biff said calling him the best Russian ever is something that I don't even know where to start with) that pisses me off but in no way shape or form does he go in over sting. He was prop to move the belt to Pedro. That's it. Any heel would have done the trick. You cannot tell me drew more money than sting who worked all over the country.

I realize warrior is never getting in the WON hof and I get why, but sting, punk, and edge? Gimmie a break.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Yeah, but they probably thought showcasing Dean the way they did yesterday was doing him a favour.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I read his articles on wrestlezone just for the laughs. They are so poorly done and all over the place. I can't believe he gets paid to write them.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I doubt that is true. Maybe they wanna make sure the wrestler is in it for the long haul first, to avoid a Brock or Lashley scenario, but come on.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Warrior should get in. I hated his politics and beliefs but for a while, he was the biggest or second-biggest wrestling star in the world.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I agree and it's just crazy that is how things are still run. Business is down, attendance is down and the network is not doing what they had hoped/thought and yet they are still running it as if they are on top of the world with more money than they can spend. Punks gone, Bryans gone...If someone is hot FUCKING RUN WITH IT AND SQUEEZE EVERY DIME OUT OF IT UNTIL THEY ARENT HOT! who gives a shit if it is or is not the guy you set out to be the guy.

    ReplyDelete
  109. The explanation was they they're making money selling the WWE brand. There's no Hogan or Austin, no one up there like that except Cena. The point was that they didn't want an issue where a departing star would create a void, so they sell the brand instead. Kinda like how SNL would sell the show instead of the individual comedians.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Eh, not getting buried. WWE overall has no idea how to get anyone over. Their default is to put over Orton and Cena and that's what they always end up doing. I don't think it's a concious "we hate Ambrose" thing, obviously not. It's more general incompetence and a blankey-esque reliance on the same 2-3 guys year after year. The fact that in 2014 going into 2015 we're getting set for another Randy Orton main event push is just indefensible.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Who the hell is Oscar Pistorious anyhow? Some kind of boxer?

    ReplyDelete
  112. Ivan Koloff was the Iron Sheik of his day with respect to the title. He only held it for 21 days, and even then it was simply to move the title onto Pedro Morales. Koloff's career was a marked decline from that point on, so much so that he was virtually a JTTS in the 1980s.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Olympic sprinter, I think; the guy with artificial legs.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I can almost understand that logic. No spikes mean no valleys later. Investors tend to like smooth consistent earnings.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I realized that we haven't had a predictions thread yet, and we're a little over a week away from the new quarterly earnings report. WWE will be aiming for at least 1.2 million subscribers now that the Network has launched worldwide, but...

What will the number actually be?

I'll kick things off and say 1.05 million.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Austin made money for WWE for 4-5 years. Same for Rock. So was it a mistake that WWE went all in with them without getting them to agree to stay there for a decade first? The obsession with only pushing guys if they're sure they'll stick around for a Randy orton or John Cena-esque 100 years has led to them having no stars other than Cena or Orton.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Punk's cumulative work in Ring of Honor and WWE should be considered roughly commiserate with Edge's work in WWE, at least in my estimation. Edge had a more decorated career, but Punk was arguably a bigger star in the long haul with mainstream appeal at times, which should balance the two out. Either they both get in, or neither one should get in.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Dude that runs with spatula feet.

    ReplyDelete
  119. It really deserves to be about half of the previous number, like 350k or so.

    ReplyDelete
  120. "Paddy's Pub: The Worst Bar In Philadelphia"

    ReplyDelete
  121. I don't care about his politics either, and he was my first favorite wrestler but I get why they won't let him in. He only really mattered from 89-92 and even then he missed some time. Plus he was a bad wrestler and while I love his promos they were...let's just say non traditional. Plus everyone bags on him for business tanking in 1990. I disagree but I can see why they won't let him in.

    ReplyDelete
  122. UFC is trying to do that by saturating the market with events that have no big names because big names cause them headaches since Dana White and Co. actually have to pay them. But now UFC isn't as big as before although MMA is now recognized as a real sport, which is huge progress.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Boooooo, fucking Price is Right

    ReplyDelete
  124. If anything, there should be a plan in place to protect guys from false accusations! Look at what happened to Chaz! Remember Chaz?!

    ReplyDelete
  125. Anyone who bids last, and does any other bid than either $1, or $1 more than one of the other 3 bids deserves to go home empty handed. That is like the #1 basic rule.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I'm glad WWE is taking a zero tolerance policy on abuse, but if their main impetus is to seem higher and mightier than the NFL...well, it's doing the right thing for the wrong reasons.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I don't think the issue is with Cena or Orton (though we know that's one major reason why the product is so stale). But they've got a centralized fanbase that keeps watching no matter who is there. That consistency is what they're trying not to offend. He also brought up how that's true with WM partially being made up of a bunch of guys who people remember, not really a lot of new guys that could carry the ball.

I'm not doing Cornette's points justice (and TBH, I don't agree with him on a lot of things, wrestling or otherwise), but it made a compelling point and does give a valid excuse as to why they haven't tried to make new stars.

    ReplyDelete
  128. But that's all it is, it's an excuse.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I miss Bayless.

    ReplyDelete
  130. With worldwide subscribers included? Because WWE is aiming for 1.2 mil on the notion that the worldwide numbers have kicked them up. If they were simply announcing the domestic number next week, they'd be properly fucked, I would imagine.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Even on the day he was beating Hogan, Hogan was still the bigger star.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Punk yes, Edge no. Punk had more of an impact in his time in WWE. No one chants for Edge to return and when he left, it was sad but he was all but forgotten in a week. Don't get me wrong...I enjoyed Edge but he doesn't strike me as one of the all-time greats. Punk doesn't either but of the two, I think Punk had more of a presence and was a better worker.

Edge always seemed like a placeholder champion.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Yep, and Wrestlemania always sells out months before even 1 match is announced, so it's kind of working. Hell, even back in the early 90's, the moment a house show was announced within 3 hours of driving, me and my friends were 100% going, before we even knew the card. The brand is a powerful thing.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Also punk is an all time elite worker which is enough to go into the hall of fame on alone. They put Benoit in the hall of fame in 2003. Punks not Benoit but he's elite enough that combined with his mic skills, all the merch he sold, the fact that he headlined house show tours, and his 435 day reign (that's 414 days longer than Koloff) make him a slame dunk IMO. I think Dave is voting for him too.

Edge, I'd vote for him too. Huge for 10 years, and carried the smackdown brand, and had some of the most important matches in history.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I think we'll do 892,126. It'll be interesting to see if the worldwide gain can make up for the people who decided not to subscribe anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  136. How psyched is everyone for the latest upcoming Randy Orton main event push??!? I know it's bombed like 10 times already, as recently as last year's historically bad run in which fans were chanting for Orton's PPV matches to stop and he drew a record low Survivor Series buyrate... but this one is gonna be huge, right?

    ReplyDelete
  137. Fair enough. It just felt that growing up, when you talked to kids about wrestling in the schoolyard, it was Hogan 1-A and Warrior 1-B. That's how massive Warrior was in popularity.

    ReplyDelete
  138. IMO Koloff is THE prototypical placeholder champion.

    ReplyDelete
  139. It's like being cornered in the showers by JBL - best to let it run its course.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I don't know, Ambrose is pretty damn over, and this was WWE's doing, due to a super strong and consistant push for the past 2-3 years or so. You truly believe he's on a downfall due to ONE Raw match? Keep in mind that very often, the winner of a big PPV match loses the previous Raw. At least wait until the PPV.

    ReplyDelete
  141. He really wasn't. I love Warrior, but his title reign was a flop and he was never the top guy. He doesn't get into the Hall on any criteria.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Fuck that! I'm kicking and screaming for help if JBL approaches me in the shower!

  143. Listening to Observer Radio, and while I occasionally enjoy his super-passionate attitude, this episode has me pretty well convinced that Bryan Alvarez could be the most obnoxious person in the world.

Why is it that every time a face loses, it means they're trying to fan their heat? Why can't they be telling a story and building to a big victory?

    ReplyDelete
  147. Basically any heel could have done that. Also he was by far the worst of the Russians in the nwa. He was basically Nikkitas manager.

    ReplyDelete
  148. You have to consider some things about Edge. His singles' runs as WWE Champion weren't all that significant, but he was a much stronger World Heavyweight Champion and had some memorable moments in that guise. But he's perhaps the most decorated and accomplished tag team wrestler in the history of the business, having forged two of the top teams from the last decade and further winning another tag title with Hulk Hogan to boot. His versatility and his in-ring work should qualify him for inclusion.

  150. TBF, it hasn't been one match. Rollins has gotten the better of him in most of their encounters (I get the Raven/Dreamer-type storyline, but still).

"No one chants for Edge to return"

Possibly because they understand that a return would potentially paralyze the poor bastard, which he explained in his retirement speech.

  152. Koloff's LONG career is HoF worthy, IMO, but if you ask me to choose him over Sting... Nah, can't do it. Although I bet his main event runs with Bruno did make at least as much money as anything Sting did.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Yeah, his reign flopping wasn't his fault, but that doesn't mean he's a HoFer because of it.

He basically had two or three good years, then coasted on the nostalgia of people (like me) who grew up with him and remember him as being bigger than he was.

    ReplyDelete
  154. I think you're not giving Ivan much respect. His time in the NWA with Nikita was past his prime, but he was over in the 70s/early 80s.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Then why does a guy like Jericho get in? Great worker, sure...but was he ever a draw? Or the top guy? Not really. And in wrestling fame and history, who really was a bigger star and legend?

The Olympic blade runner. One of the biggest names from the 2012 Games

  157. I wasn't watching last night, so I can't speak to any perceived burial or cooling off. I will say that Sunday should go a long way towards determining how confident they are in letting Ambrose run with the character. Sometimes, I think that the Creative Team's burnout and non-wrestling background mitigates the natural talents of the wrestlers, which then gets construed as 'burials' or 'cooling off', when the opposite desire may be intended.

    ReplyDelete
  158. I don't think he's on the downfall, but it's pretty obvious that Orton's about to turn face and leapfrog ahead of him, which is just insane and exemplifies everything wrong about WWE the last 5 years or so. What's the point of a Randy Orton main event push? He had his millionth try on top last year and it bombed to a historic degree. He cuts god awful promos, draws legit "shut up and get off TV" heat, and yet.... gotta put him over Ambrose again so we can build to that main event title feud. It's nuts.

And again, I know you say it's one match and nothing matters, but that's an awful way to treat their (ever dwindling) audience. Let things matter. If you're serious about pushing Ambrose then be fucking serious about it and have him win these matches. Otherwise it just keeps reinforcing to the crowd that nothing matters, we don't care what you want, here's Cena and Orton and that's what you get for the next 10 years.

    ReplyDelete
  159. You could argue Edge as being one of the few actual difference makers of his era. He CARRIED the Smackdown brand, and ratings dipped every time he was out with injury. Maybe he was never mainstream, but he's one of the few guys from the modern era who, in my opinion, actually does make sense as a Hall of Famer.

  160. WWF1987 is an 11, threatening to break the whole damn scale... VJ is about an 8.

There's a reason I've compared him to Elvy, minus the impersonating other posters on 411 stuff.

  161. The money is in the chase. Now they have a cell match where Ambrose can finally try to get his revenge.

Plus, Austin lots to Bret tons of times during his build up. Ambrose's rise reminds me a bit of that.

Am I the only one hoping for Orton to beat Cena on Sunday, just so we get a different Main Event from Cena-Lesnar as a result?

I'm not saying Orton-Lesnar is an all-time great match-up, but at least it's a new main event.

I saw it on the Daily News this morning, too. Not that that should lend it any more credence.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Huh. I completely forgot Jericho was in.

I would imagine a lot of it has to do with his ring work. It's an oft-forgotten note every year when voting season comes around, but one of the criteria for voting is ring work. If your peers respect you as a worker and as a performer, and you've been able to consistently deliver at a top level in main events and undercard matches, that carries weight on the ballot.

Also, you could argue Jericho was a star everywhere he went. He got over in Mexico, Japan, Smoky Mountain, ECW, WCW, WWE. And he's had insane longevity. Maybe he's not a slam dunk candidate, but I absolutely see the argument.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Scott what is your take on Punks chances assuming he never wrestles again. I'd say he's close enough to get in on work rate alone and the other stuff puts him over the top. Do you agree and do you think he should/will get in?

  183. I think I said 777K, based on the ads being introduced. As someone mentioned when it came up, advertisers would NOT be buying ads on the Network if there wasn't SOME growth.

  184. He also had a commercial basically justifying robbing a blind guy, as long as you really needed the money (Or at least, that is how I understood it)

  186. The difference is, the fed was behind Austin in being "The Guy". They're not behind Ambrose. Ambrose is keeping the seat warm for Prison Shower Reigns.

    ReplyDelete
  187. So they're telling the story of Ambrose building to a big victory over Randy Orton, or are they telling the story of Randy Orton being an awesome main eventer who is next in line to feud against Brock? Based on TV right now, which of those stories do you think they were telling last night?

    ReplyDelete
  188. It does count in the criteria (which is why madden is using brocks ufc run as a point to back him up) but IMO no it probably shouldn't.
