BoD Sunday NFL Thread

After going 3-2 last week, I am now 7-12-1 on the season. Here are my picks for this week:

Pittsburgh -6 at Jacksonville
San Diego -6.5 vs. New York Jets
Detroit -5 vs. Buffalo
Philadelphia -5 vs. St. Louis
San Francisco -4.5 vs. Kansas City

Comments

  1. Probably should get off Philly in my suicide pool now that you picked them......

    ReplyDelete
  2. Enjoy the last good week of NFL everyone. HGH testing begins Monday.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Nevermind, no one will ever get popped.

"Each week of the season, 5 players on 8 teams will be tested. No testing will occur on game days," Winston said in the letter, which was obtained by ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

    ReplyDelete
  4. He's improved, so you should be safe.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Anyone watch Hell On Wheels? A pretty good show that flies under the radar...

    ReplyDelete
  6. Am I the only person who enjoys the baseball playoffs more than football? And I love football...

    ReplyDelete
  7. First two weeks I was 2-8
Last two I have been 5-4-1

    ReplyDelete
  8. The MLB playoffs have been great so far

    ReplyDelete
  9. Used to be pretty big on fantasy baseball (still do a league or two a year, but used to be multiple, some money, some for shits and giggles)...was always sick of baseball by October so haven't really paid attention to the playoffs in, maybe 10 years? Last one I watched was whenever the Yankees choked against the dbacks

    ReplyDelete
  10. On the other hand, with all the rule changes, I'm sick of football, can easily see giving it up once Eli's gone

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm there with you.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Baseball playoffs are awesome. Only topped by hockey playoffs.

    ReplyDelete
  13. What game is everyone watching?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Flipping back and forth between Baltimore-Indy and Atlanta-NYG

    ReplyDelete
  15. Bishop Sankey is one of Matthew Berrys awful fantasy sleepers.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Dallas/Houston. Only game on here.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Same, but I'm not complaining.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Me neither. It's football. I'm happy.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm watching the game over RedZone this week.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think I could watch Devin Hester return punts all Sunday and I would never feel bored.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Interesting call by Indy going for it on 4th-and-1 on Baltimore's 21. Ravens stuffed it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm happy to see him doing well as a receiver. Change of scenery probably had something to do with that.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Bayless picked Detroit? Fuck, I'm gonna lose in suicide.

    ReplyDelete
  24. We get Jets/Giantsed this week. Worst thing about living in NY. Thank God for Red Zone

    ReplyDelete
  25. Add Cordarelle Patterson to that list... although I loved him in Week 1.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Joe Haden is not an elite cornerback.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Bills/Lions...

    BILLIEVE

    ReplyDelete
  28. The only person out of me and you?

    Yes.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Apparently not

    ReplyDelete
  30. #33 on the Bills just essentially piledrove himself... they're bringing the cart out.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Indeed. I never understand people calling it "boring". There's a dramatic difference between "boring" and "incredibly intense and exciting".

    Glad I'm not alone.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Damn Murray is a fumbling machine.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Roger Goodell: Well at least no player has gotten paralyzed this year! Wait...what? COME ON!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ron Brooks got....

    JACKED UP

    ReplyDelete
  35. Second week in a row that Benjamin has coughed up the ball; this time it bites us in the ass. If he wants to become an elite receiver, he has to fix the random drops and turning the ball over.

    ReplyDelete
  36. So the first quarter of this Ravens-Colts game we have seen three turnovers (two by Baltimore), a muffed punt, a failed 4th-and-1 conversion...and defensive tackle Haloti Ngata has an interception.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Goddamn, Carolina is fucking terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Adam "Colorado" CurryOctober 5, 2014 at 11:44 AM

No fucking way they should have ran that race.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Browns are playing like a bunch of assholes.

    ReplyDelete
  40. ESPN's Gamecast is frozen. God damnit, you guys have ONE job once a week.

    ReplyDelete
  41. He really said that

    ReplyDelete
  42. He said last year Zach Sufield would finish the year as a top 10 TE. He was waived in week 5

    ReplyDelete
  43. NFL.com, to hell with ESPN.

(Well, to hell with both of them, but at least one works)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yea, I use both NFL and ESPN to track. When I get really frustrated, I use Yahoo. It's so frustrating

    ReplyDelete
  45. Woke up too late to get any early game action in. I'll make up for it in the afternoon.

    I took
    Arizona +7.5 over Denver
    49ers -6 over KC
    San Diego -6 over NYJ

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anyone know of a place to stream Red Zone? First Row sports has some subpar links for it so far. I'm stuck with Cowboys-Texans and that's it for my area.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Adam "Colorado" CurryOctober 5, 2014 at 11:53 AM

    Nice pass Kyle.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Dallas coughs it up on a punt return.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Christ... get up for a minute to take care of laundry and Detroit is up 14-0 on the Bills!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Watching the Cowboys game with my grandpa. Old school guy who's literally been a cowboys fan since the beginning. He's not happy right now.

    ReplyDelete
  51. So the Bills' record will be worse, affecting the position of their first round pick, which the Browns own. *Mr Burns fingers*

    ReplyDelete
  52. Yep (tm ABeyance)

    ReplyDelete
  53. If he made it through the past 8 years or so, this one will be better. They have a real shot at 10-11 wins this year. That division is still fraudulent and they drew the even more putrid AFC South as their division swap rival this year. If something breaks down in Philly (like the entire offensive line has already broken down) they might even win that division.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I have faith in Romo...he'll find a way to lead the team to 8-8.

    ReplyDelete
  55. But we both know what will actually happen: Dallas will hit a rough stretch where they lose at least two games to stupid mistakes, go into Washington in Week 17 needing a win to clinch a playoff spot/the division, and shit it all away behind either Romo or whoever happens to be his backup this year.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I've got that streaming through chromecast right now. I love that friggen thing.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Well fuck it up anyway so Bills fans shouldn't feel too bad.

    ReplyDelete
  58. They're putting a LOT of money into the RDJ/Duval movie, thing's going to bomb, shame

    ReplyDelete
  59. He's consistent... you have to give him that.

    ReplyDelete
  60. How well does it do with pop up ads?

    ReplyDelete
  61. It's getting really bad reviews.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I can't figure out why it's a movie.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Yeah I don't know who this is supposed to appeal to. It doesn't look like a date movie or really interesting enough to be a movie that you HAVE to see.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Plus week 2 of Gone Girl and Equalizer is hanging strong. Bad reviews too

    ReplyDelete
  65. It looks awful. It looks extremely cliche and silly. Without seeing it, I can garauntee there will be a shot of an older, heavyset Southern woman fanning herself and a dramatic scene over selecting a jury member.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I didn't think I was going to like Gone Girl but I really did. Might be the best non superhero movie I've seen this year.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Downey bored and wanting to throw his Avenger weight around, I reckon. I think he/wife produced it? I'll eventually watch it but paying? Nah

    ReplyDelete
  68. Well that all has to do with your browser. You're casting whatever's on it. I have AdBlock for Chrome installed and there's literally nothing once you navigate through those trap X's to click on initially.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Old people. Old people can't wait to see it.

    ReplyDelete
  70. The Saints picked Mike Glennon off. It took them about 260 minutes to get their first interception of 2014.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Adam "Colorado" CurryOctober 5, 2014 at 12:08 PM

Is it based on a John Grisham book? Looks like it is.

    ReplyDelete
  72. For some reason I am in the Judge's demographic because every movie I see has it as a trailer. I almost want to see it just to see what happens.

Same thing happened with Vanity Fair in 2004

    ReplyDelete
  73. Adam "Colorado" CurryOctober 5, 2014 at 12:09 PM

The Bills are not very good at this football thing.

    ReplyDelete
  74. And it was a pick off at the 4 with no return. So basically they got a long punt. I'm not counting that one. I'm pretty sure they had 1 turnover in 6 games going into this one

    ReplyDelete
  75. Huh...I dunno. You're right( it totally looks like one, but they haven't used his name yet.

    ReplyDelete
  76. ...the trailer's decent but it gives like 90% of the movie away, only question is if RDJ/Duval come to a grudging respect before or after he gets Duval off the murder charge

    ReplyDelete
  77. And Morestead bobbles the punt and TB is back where they started from. So yea, we get a turnover but it really accomplishes nothing. Saints football!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Yea, there's a huge climatic scene that it looks like they give away.

Who thought letting the director of Wedding Crashers direct a serious movie was a goo idea?

    ReplyDelete
  79. Good god Charlie Whitehurst is in... and just threw a TD pass on his first strike!

    ReplyDelete
  80. I thought the Bills and Browns had a chance to be feel-good teams after the first couple of weeks of the season. Reality has set in, unfortunately.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I can't honestly assess GG, hated the ending that much

    ReplyDelete
  82. I would have been more upset but pretty much 2/3 of my entire group saw it coming so I wasn't even angry at that point

    ReplyDelete
  83. I'm not ready to punt on the Bills yet. With the Patriots rapidly cratering, that division might be even worse than everyone thought.

    ReplyDelete
  84. There's a tactic in making movies that says you're supposed to give away the ending in the first 10 minutes. Movies can actually be very enjoyable that way.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Eh, that ending could have been earned, but they needed to do a lot more work painting Nick as damaged instead of just an asshole

    ReplyDelete
  86. This is true. That division appears to be wide open. It'll be down to who can win the most games against their own division.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Giants with AWESOME strategy of playing soft zones and no blitzing for a decimated Falcon oline

    ReplyDelete
  88. Started "Scary Movie Month" with my girlfriend last night and watched Tall Man from 2011 with Jessica Biel. I expected it to be a ** stinker that you could follow... but HOLY SHIT the thing turns itself on it's ass halfway through and becomes a completely different movie.

Strong Recommendation for a nighttime Netflix date.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Adam "Colorado" CurryOctober 5, 2014 at 12:17 PM

    7-9 might be good enough.

    ReplyDelete
  90. The NFL is so wonky now... Bills could theoretically lose ALL their division games... and still win the division.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Da Bears. The delusional fan in me thought that the complexion of last week's game would have changed greatly if they gave Bennett the touchdown at the end of the first half (but the only good camera angle was blocked by a defender). Now, they're in control of this Carolina game. Crossing my fingers here even though I thought their window closed last year.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Ugh... leave it to Bigbird to toss it up to them.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I was wondering about that movie. I was initially thinking stinker, too. The gf loves horror movies, so I'll keep that one in mind.

    ReplyDelete
  94. This one is especially what I would call "girlfriend friendly."

    ReplyDelete
  95. It's very important that both teams suck. This Browns fan is ready to draft a receiver.

    ReplyDelete
  96. NFL has to know their blackout rules fuck over New York badly. So why give the Jets/Giants a home game with the network that has the singleheader. Next week we only get two games again. It's bullshit and I'm so sick of it.

    ReplyDelete
  97. He was benched too quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Didn't they just end the blackout rules?

    ReplyDelete
  99. No, the NFL still has a rule that if the local team is at home, no game can be shown against it to encourage people to go to the game.

    ReplyDelete
  100. If Brady is the starter at the end of the season, he is guaranteed three more years of his contract. The Pats are trying to dump him so that does not happen. They have the lowest cap number in the league.

    ReplyDelete
  101. From what I remember reading, the NFL can still do blackouts, they'll just have to insert it into the next TV deal.

    ReplyDelete
  102. NFL makes more money on TV viewership than live gates... not sure why they care so much. It's not 1965 anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  103. A lot of the NFL is like 1965. I don't think it impacts people too much except in places like New York and the Bay Area

    ReplyDelete
  104. That's a Ryan defense for ya. Jets suffer from the same stuff. Rex's teams never force turnovers.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Fucking Justin Hunter. Drop him in fantasy and he finally does something

    ReplyDelete
  106. (Their thinking, IIRC)

If the stands aren't full, then the games don't look so "important", and the league's "prestige" suffers. Full stands = "EVENT!" = BIG TV deals.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Harbaugh should just pair up with Brady somewhere else next year and win the next three SuperBowls.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Colts-Ravens, Browns-Titans, Rams-Eagles, Bucs-Saints, Texans-Cowboys... So many games I couldn't give a shit about. Anyone have any classy or dark horse teams I can root for?

    ReplyDelete
  109. Both Harbaughs and Brady get run out of the league and end up in Michigan.

They'll still lose to the SEC somehow.

    ReplyDelete
  110. He's good. He has a non-human at WR which greatly helps. He's not elite though.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Ooooo... did not know that tidbit.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Great. Now we're the retarded team that takes penalties on 3rd down

    ReplyDelete
  113. All the interesting teams this year are on the west. Arizona might be good, might not be. Seattle probably wins the Super Bowl. 49ers are either good or imploding, it varies week to week. Chargers might be for real this year. Denver is hanging around.

So of course the league is ignoring all of them We need more NFC East!

    ReplyDelete
  114. Romo just made the kind of play that keeps him around despite all the choking. Great escape, great bomb, all around quality.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I do kinda like the Giants since they never feel like a typically obnoxious NY team. Eli and Coughlin aren't brash, get bashed by the press, and defy expectations most years. But I really don't care about the other teams. You're right about the west, too.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Someone just got flagged for "inappropriate language" in the Saints game. I suspect someone let the h-e-double hockey sticks slip out.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I threw a chair, a dustpan and a broom.

    Saints football!

    ReplyDelete
  118. They dropped that on Kaepernick a couple weeks ago... claimed he said "the n word." Kaep is appealing.

    ReplyDelete
  119. WTF happened to that team.

    ReplyDelete
  120. No idea. Maybe having training camp at a resort was a bad idea. 2nd game this year we've blown a 13-0 lead.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Maybe they're trying to drive people onto NFL Sunday Ticket?

    ReplyDelete
  122. The fans are booing too. Every year there's a SB contender that implodes. I guess we drew the lottery this year.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Rob Ryan might be the most overrated defensive coordinator in the NFL.

    ReplyDelete
  124. You can still wear Beats By Dre if you're in a video hitting your wife or your kids though.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Oh My God. The implosion is complete.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Typical NFL loopholes. Those headphones are a menace, I tell ya.

    ReplyDelete
  127. At least you've had a 13-0 lead pal!

    ReplyDelete
  128. Bucs... ROLLIN!

    ReplyDelete
  129. Bucs... BUILDING MOMENTUM!

    ReplyDelete
  130. That was a pretty graceful flip into the end zone, however.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Bucs... CREATING SEPARATION!

    ReplyDelete
  132. TWO 13-0 leads! I think we were up 13-0 on the Vikes too.

    ReplyDelete
  133. I feel like that comes down to Miami having the least problems of the four.

    ReplyDelete
  134. The Saints at home today?

    ReplyDelete
  135. So they don't have the "bad road team" gripe. They're usually stellar at home.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Orton's not the answer to the question, "Who can QB this team into the future." He's the answer to the question, "Who will cost us the fewest games from the QB position?"

    ReplyDelete
  137. Yep. I think the Bucs were the last team to beat Payton at home in 2010.

    ReplyDelete
  138. And NOW Romo just made the kind of play that keeps the Cowboys from being a good team. Awful pick, what was he even looking at.

    ReplyDelete
  139. No, it's to keep live attendance up

    ReplyDelete
  140. "Niners"? People won't be happy until EVERY team gets renamed.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Nice to have Donnell and Cruz going today! 0 points each!

    ReplyDelete
  142. I started Cordarelle Patterson. I am dropping him pronto.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Drafted him and was very pleased with Week 1... hasn't done shit since.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Literally he's has ONE play all season. Damn that man.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Eli looks like a dolt most of the time. The press never fell in love with him like they do other NY athletes. Everyone's saying the Giants suck... I'm pulling for them. They're hanging in there.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I have 1 point out of my two receivers that have played so far

    ReplyDelete
  147. Christian Ponder will do that to a receiver

    ReplyDelete
  148. I've met Eli a bunch of times and he looks so lanky. Like a string bean. I have no idea how he takes hits.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I thought Ponder was throwing at the end of last season where the guy really busted out.

    ReplyDelete
  150. NFL Red Zone just mentioned OJ Simpson. There was no disclaimer beforehand

    ReplyDelete
  151. My guess is that Eli would have that same good ol boy charisma that his brother has. What was he like when you met him?

    ReplyDelete
  152. He's robotic. I've met him at this charity event and his answers are always short and to the point. Never breaks from the script. Nice guy, he'll sign and take photos, but you're not getting anything out of him that you wouldn't get from Sports Cliches 101

    ReplyDelete
  153. Touchdown Saints? Hey, they're only mostly inept now!

    ReplyDelete
  154. Moving it to Chicago was the real blow as it was far off from the Carolina base who had made the previous shows successful. Plus, Chicago is a union town and the costs of everything from putting up the ring to concessions were huge, hurt him there too.
Course, didn't help that the ONE TIME everyone thought for sure the Road Warriors would get the belts, we get a Dusty finish while Dusty himself beats Luger in a slow US title cage match. And not that much excitement as everyone knew Flair was getting the belt back in the main event.

    ReplyDelete
  155. And they needed to dick around twice to Cooks before they did it. Not satisfied.

    ReplyDelete
  156. When are people going to realise Jeff Fisher fucking sucks?

    ReplyDelete
  157. Gunther the Nasty LoserOctober 5, 2014 at 1:22 PM

Seeing all the pink on the field makes me wonder if WWE will grace us with "Did you know: other organizations like the NFL have followed WWE's lead in promoting tiny little towels?"

    ReplyDelete
  158. Colts are trying to give this game away

    ReplyDelete
  159. It feels like there are a lot of doofus looking QBs in the league right now despite it being the glamour position. Eli looks mentally retarded, Andrew Luck is an internet neckbeard who happens to be good at football, Foles and Glennon just look a little "off", Flacco looks like the accountant in our office we all make fun of, Schaub is an internet meme at this point, Matt Ryan is another CPA.

Only good looking guys should play QB. It just makes me feel better if the QB is cool.

    ReplyDelete
  160. We got another turnover but the Saints fumbled it away. Holy crap.

    ReplyDelete
  161. In my two money leagues, I went into the week 4-0. The strengths of my teams were drafting in the first three rounds: Jimmy Graham, Dez Bryant/AJ Green, and Jordy Nelson in the first three rounds, followed by a bunch of not super running backs that have actually turned out to be okay: some combo of Lamar Miller, CJ Spiller, Shane Vareen, Toby Gerhart, along with the occassional last minute pickup that turned out to be okay (like the Buccaneers backup).

Anyway looks like today I might end both of those streaks with no Lamar Miller (who's been real good) and Jimmy Graham out.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Did he draft Sam Bradford?

Bradford keeps getting hurt and missing the season, and Fisher kind of hangs his hat on that, "Well, our QB was hurt but we still did okay."

I don't think he'll be able to get away with that again though.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Ultimate Warrior theme right now in Texas...

    ReplyDelete
  164. I have Ruben Randel going for me.

    ReplyDelete
  165. His Titans record isn't that great and on the Rams he's done nothing. and it looks like they are having another lost season

    ReplyDelete
  166. Aw man, was hoping to see Pittsburgh give another winless team one today.

    ReplyDelete
  167. There's still ten minutes left...

    ReplyDelete
  168. The Lions need to either find a way to get Jason Hanson out of retirement or sign Matt Prater. We've missed 7 field goals in the first 5 weeks. Completely inexcusable

    ReplyDelete
  169. Your last sentence is the WWEs way of thinking.

    ReplyDelete
  170. I need 2 more teams for the BoD Fantasy hockey league. The draft is at 630pm EST tonight. Any takers?

    ReplyDelete
  171. Ahh that actually makes some sense. NFL's gonna have to prioritize the in-game experience then because with the proliferation of affordable large HDTVs, the cost of going to a game (ticket prices and concession prices), weather in many parts of the country come late fall/early winter and the rise of fantasy football, the at-home experience is often every bit as good and much cheaper.

So a well known WWE insider on WWE is saying Sting will be on WWE tv by late January

    ReplyDelete
  173. I've always said the champ should be a guy that men want to be and women want to fuck.

I want the same for my QB.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Believe in the Bort, he shall deliver

    ReplyDelete
  175. The Eagles have a 20 point lead and they are snapping the ball with 13 seconds left on the play clock.

    ReplyDelete
  176. Sure, why not. Doubt I'll get my All-Sharks team, but it's worth a try.

    ReplyDelete
  177. email me at BBayless781@gmail.com for the invite

    ReplyDelete
  178. Sting is going to be in the XFL?

    ReplyDelete
  179. He just delivered STRAIGHT to Pittsburgh... after trying to look smooth with an audible.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Had no idea Meltzer was a Redditor.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Good Foles needs more touchdowns.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Eh, I don't think he's overrated. He deserved all the credit for New Orleans' defensive turnaround last year. This year he's being pillored and justifiably so.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Yeah he's making me look really dumb. I've been talking him up here and on random football message boards saying that the Jags would start ripping off some wins once he got in. This is not working out for me at all.

    ReplyDelete

    http://411mania.com/wrestling/sting-teases-big-news-reddit-insider-claims-to-know-when-sting-will-debut-on-wwe-tv/

    ReplyDelete
  185. There must be some serious booing in the Dome right about now.

    ReplyDelete
  186. His one big news was JTG getting release? Well call me a WWE insider.

    ReplyDelete
  187. So, what just happened with the Cowboys? I've been trying to flip-flop between the two games I can actually watch, and I think I missed Romo royally fucking up

    ReplyDelete
  188. Mitch, The GodfatherOctober 5, 2014 at 1:39 PM

And people actually thought that Kyle Orton would make the team better.

    ReplyDelete
  189. Sent the invite

    ReplyDelete
  190. By 'people' I hope you just mean the Bills organization and not actual fans

    ReplyDelete
  191. Just one more team needed for the BoD Fantasy Hockey Team. Who wants to join?

    ReplyDelete
  192. Instead of taking the sack and letting the clock tick, Romo opts to stop the clock with an incomplete pass and lose yardage with intentional grounding. Bravo.

    ReplyDelete
  193. Mitch, The GodfatherOctober 5, 2014 at 1:40 PM

By "people" I mean the organization and numerous sports analysts.

    ReplyDelete
