  1. Like I said in the other thread, gonna give hockey a try tonight. Figure it'd be something I could get into.

  2. Hockey>TNA by a mile. IF I even turn the TV on, it's going straight to NBCSN.

  3. Don't have a team though considering I live in Texas, guess it'll be the Stars.

  7. It was announced at the WWE Smackdown taping that the John Cena and Dean Ambrose's match at Hell in a Cell will be no holds barred with a contract on a pole. The winner will face Seth Rollins in a Hell in a Cell match.

The cat's out of the bag: Vince Russo is an employee of WWE.

So apparently they're firing CM Punk since AJ Lee had a 40 man royal gangbang or something that wasn't as good as the already planned Lita/Trish main event at WM 31.

    Or something.

The thread has been out getting nice and toasted, forgetting to pay the cab ride over here to the blog. Police got involved.

But all is well, now. It was just a misunderstanding.

  11. Gunther the Nasty LoserOctober 8, 2014 at 6:40 PM

Begs the question: when should thte title change be acknowledged?

When it happens or when it airs?

If they were running house shows, Lashley would still be defending it, even though he's already lost it.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Gunther the Nasty LoserOctober 8, 2014 at 6:41 PM

It must be some kind of mistake.
I waited at your house for hours.
    You were late.

  14. Am I the only one that enjoys listening to old Wrestling Observer Live episodes from like 1999-2001 on YouTube and/or tracking down message board posts from the same time period? As someone who was only in 8th grade when WrestleMania 17 aired, I've always found it interesting to see what the "IWC" was like during the boom period. It's almost like being able to read first hand historical accounts.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Gunther the Nasty LoserOctober 8, 2014 at 6:41 PM

Let me clarify my post: when should the official date of the change be?

    ReplyDelete
  16. "Consultant"... BRO

    ReplyDelete
  17. Well, that's why the World Title isn't on BfG.

    ReplyDelete
  18. If it's taped in this day and age then it's no secret so just announce it

    ReplyDelete
  19. I listened to one where Dave Meltzer reported the Steve Austin heel trun.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I was 20 at the time and I find it interesting reading about how the attitude era shaped the minds of you young whippersnappers.

    ReplyDelete
  21. A couple of months ago I listened to several right around when WCW was about to be sold and it was interesting to hear how WWF really did kinda come out of no where and that while they were always a dark horse, most people assumed it'd be Fusient. Also really interesting that after it was official that WWF was buying WCW, how many people thought it was fake/a work.

"Cena vs Ambrose could be an awesome match. Instead of letting it be, let's add a pole..."

    ReplyDelete
  23. Gunther the Nasty LoserOctober 8, 2014 at 6:45 PM

I mean in general, though, regardless of BfG.

Like the old WCW Disney days. You'd have people defending titles at taping they hadn't won yet since they were scheduled to win them at a Clash in the future. Hell, I believe the Freebirds lost their titles before they ever actually won them.

Back in the day, when you have a title change hand weeks before it happens on TV, should the change have been counted as the actual date it happened, or the date when it falls into storyline.

You could look up on Wiki and see so-and-so won the title at whatever taping (that wouldn't air for a few weeks), and then check a site like History of WWF and see that in those week the old champ was still defending the belt.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm 32 so however old that makes me for the Attitude Era, anyway, people complained just as much then as they do now. We didn't know how good we had it.

  26. I wash myself with a rag on a stick.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I loved it at the time. I was always a huge wrestling fan. I started watching at a real young age, probably 4 or 5. Hogan was my favorite even though he was just about done with the WWF by the time I started watching. My parents rented and bought me tons of tapes so I did get to watch older WWF from before I was born.

I kept watching through the New Generation and attended WrestleMania 10. I was pretty much the only one I knew who loved wrestling until Nitro launched and the MNW began. Then around 97-01, almost everyone I was friends with also liked wrestling. I think that's part of why that era holds a special place for me.

Once I started to become more of a "smark" thanks to discovering Scott Keith and branching out to non-US wrestling in the early 00's, I hated WWE because it wasn't the Attitude Era. It wasn't until I got Classics on Demand that I was able to go back and re-watch the stuff and realize, "a lot of this doesn't stand up nearly as well as I remembered".

  30. Brother got picked for the Cavs single game lottery yesterday for the opportunity to buy tickets in November. We snatched up 3 Pelicans tickets. I got picked for the single game lottery today and passed on buying tickets because you are banned from the lottery for 2 months after you buy 1 game's tickets. I'm hoping to be picked in December for January's games.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I was reading some posts from the end of 1999/early 2000 on the Wrestling Classics message board and it seemed like people fucking hated US wrestling in 1999. Funny because it was ridiculously popular, especially the WWF. I could see why the "smarks" at the time didn't like it though because the WWF's "workrate" was almost non-existent and WCW's super workers were perennial midcarders.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Don't write checks yo ass can't cash!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I like his unibrow.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think that's what I find most funny. The older people swear the wrestling they grew up on was the best but the attitude babies won't claim that era for anything.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I saw him two years ago during his rookie season. The guy can play. He's going to be a huge star.

I'ma have hot dogs for dinner.

    ReplyDelete
  39. My die-hard fandom probably died in 2001 with Austin's heel turn. Then 2002 happened and I graduated and was trying to figure shit out and Austin walked out and I was watching less and less. By 2003 I only watched the road to wrestlemania and by 2004 I had basically checked out full time.

    ReplyDelete
  40. He is awesome. I am a huge fan but too bad the rest of his team kinda sucks

    ReplyDelete
  41. 2000 - early 2001 was generally complaint free, although I'm sure there is still more than people would think. The funny thing is Triple H was the clear MVP of that time period.

  44. You know what's funny, Meltzer continuously gets asked about Austin turning heel at least once a week without fail in his mailbag

    ReplyDelete

  54. The Leafs will get off to a hot start and look like a lock for the playoffs and then go down in flames in February. I can't get into them this year

    ReplyDelete
  55. I used to think the Attitude Era was the best but re-watching it has hurt. I actually really liked mid-80's JCP over the Attitude Era but that's probably just because my taste in pro wrestling has changed a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Well, I'd never heard of him until yesterday, so I guess I won't miss him much.

    ReplyDelete
  60. You just walk into the hospital and eat?

    ReplyDelete
  61. I remember a lot of the kids in school tuning out in 01 after the Austin heel turn and by the time we got back from summer vacation in September of 01, it was like everybody stopped watching. Wrestling was officially no longer cool.

    ReplyDelete
  62. They had no defense at all last year. None. If they did, Bernier could have been a Vezina finalist

    ReplyDelete
  63. Attitude was fine for the time but it wasn't made to be rewatched. It had to be enjoyed in the moment to get it. JCP is very serial so it's easy to get into and follow.

    ReplyDelete

One time at band camp one of the ladies behind the counter asked me if everything was OK since I'd been there a few days in a row. She didn't realize I worked in the area and thought that I was there at the hospital for a while with someone having a hard time.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Nice. Some usually have special prices for seniors too so the elderly eat at hospitals frequently. Overall though, hospitals are fairly cheap and have a good variety of food.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  83. Lesnar is not scheduled to return until January to begin promoting his Royal Rumble title defense, likely against John Cena. We noted before that Cena may face Rusev at WrestleMania 31 and this would be a good set-up for Rusev to cost Cena the match.

    ReplyDelete

The cafeteria itself closes at 3 PM for some reason, though a little sandwich and soup shop in another part stays open later. But I have bought big things of soup for less than $3 to take home for dinner. Last night was chicken pot pie soup!

    ReplyDelete
  85. From what I've read on RSPW archives and Petrie's rants, most of the internet was staunchly pro-WWF in from late 96-98, hated EVERYTHING in 1999 but at least gave WWF props for getting big ratings, and loved WWF in 2000.

When I was getting the soup to go, another lady was looking at another pot (same type of soup) and was all like "I want some crust, I don't see a lot of crust in there."

This was the cafeteria, and the soup was open for people buying there to serve it. In the little sandwich shop, the same lady who asked if I was OK told me that at one time they kept the chicken and dumpling or chicken pot pie soup behind the counter only for employees to serve out b/c when it was out in the open, people would pilfer all the good stuff form the soup, so they had to start rationing it, hah.

I didn't religiously watch Growing Pains growing up, so I never experienced the very special episode where Chandler died after actually surviving a drunk driving accident.

  188. No, my understanding of the first guy's meaning was that Warrior carried the belt from Honky to the Hogan world title win. That's not the case, as he lost it to Rude and regained it in between. Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought he meant Warrior carried it non-stop to the Hulk match
