Daniel Bryan's WrestleMania Run

Scott,

Do you think that Daniel Bryan's Road to WrestleMania was one of the best in WWE history? I think it was, but a lot of the details surrounding it had little to do with WWE's booking. They caught on and were able to turn it into a satisfying storyline, but some of the best moments of it were ones that were completely unplanned. The crowd turning on the Rumble, the crowd chanting for Daniel Bryan when he was in the ring while HHH was trying to push Cena/Orton, etc. The whole buildup was completely unique in that sense.

It was certainly one of the most memorable, although time will tell if it actually helped Bryan get to the next level.  It certainly hurt Batista and nearly destroyed him as a draw in what should have been his glorious comeback, for example.  But as an organic story, with WWE wanting one main event the fans dictating another one by overriding them at every turn, it'll probably be untouched. k

  1. Yay! Let's talk about Daniel Bryan's road to Wrestlemania 30 again! That HASN'T been done to death!

  2. It does remind me of happier times!

  3. It's the best in recent memory for me. Only other one that I think that can compare is Austin in 98.

  4. It's funny what can happen in 6 months.

  5. Yep, I remember the day after WrestleMania thinking we were going to be part of the hottest wrestling period in years. Nope, lol.

  6. The organic stuff was fun, but it got even better once they started really addressing it after the Rumble with Bryan confronting Trips. Pretty much every Bryan/Authority/Evolution segment from that point on was a homerun.

  7. Yeah, it's been for the most part a disaster for awhile now.

  8. What made it so unique was the fans completely hijacking EVERYTHING in favor of Bryan and the WWE responding. The fans hijacking Royal Rumble was greatness. Bryan's organic, natural, real connection with audience is/was something truly remarkable.

  9. Hey, remember when Daniel was in the Wyatt Family?

  10. I would like to know how far creative meetings went into the year before finally settling on what we got. Couldn't have been any sooner than March.

  13. It's interesting how late August 2013 - mid-January 2014 ranks as one of the most terrible main event storyline periods in WWE history, and then late January 2014 - Early April 2014 is home run after home run... only to result in Bryan having one awful, awful month as champion and going back to suckitude.

    Honestly, the Mania 30 "Monster" video package really sums up everything great about the Bryan storyline and ignores all the bullshit. If only it was that good in reality.

  14. The fans' reaction to the "ascension ceremony" at the end of 2013 for Bryan is a great example of how over Bryan was at the time.

    "That HASN'T been done to death!"

    It's hardly the Montreal screwjob or the invasion...

  16. Or Paige's tight little white girl ass.

    Wait a minute... we don't talk about that often enough, even though https://twitter.com/PaigeAss is a thing.

  17. um... seriously, yes. Yes it was.

  18. Those "You Deserve it" chants the Raw after Mania just filled my heart. Those are the moments I still watch for. Beautiful stuff.

  19. Whenever I feel tempted to give them credit for a long term
    build, I just remember Big Show trying to hijack the YES chants and I feel no
    shame in retaining the opinion that the bookers are idiots.

  20. I was just going to type this. The fans did not want any of HHH, Cena and Orton again. And Orton's promo was money, he just was dead in the water from the get-go with that crowd.

  21. Everyone trying to hijack the Yes! chants to prove that the chant was over and not Bryan made me sick. It was everything I hate about the WWE. It was especially awful when Stephanie did it.

  22. I'll admit hating hard on Batista's comeback, but since he left I've seem him kill it in Guardians and come across as an awesome dude on Jericho's podcase, and now... I'm kinda sorry I was hating

  23. It's getting there.....it's getting there.

    Keep in mind, the entire deal is only 6-12 months old.

    Screwjob = 17 years ago.

    Invasion = 13 years ago.

    Give it time.

  24. Vince Jordan, ladies and gents. Please do not throw sharp or hard objects in his direction.

  25. Horrible timing + WWE's "crack" Creative = "You be fucked, Sir Batista."

  26. She's still doing it.

  27. Don't worry, he has his bike helmet on at all times. Mainly so he doesn't hurt himself running into things....but the whole sharp objects thing too.
