Edge again...sorry

In question to his longevity: Edge debuted in mid-1998, and retired after Wrestlemania 27 in 2011. That's a 14(!) year career with only the one serious hiatus (2/03-4/04) for neck surgery.  The other injury in 07 only missed a few months.  In comparison Cena and Orton have been there only 12 years each with each taking multiple breaks for injuries, movies, etc.  In summation, I think we can qualify Edge as having longevity and having as many or fewer injuries than almighty Cena himself.

What is this, Edge Night?  His documentary is on the Network as well as we speak.

As for his longevity, I tend to think of Hall of Fame guys as having 20+ year careers, which is why I think it's best to actually extend out the age of admittance to 45 or so instead of 35, because as Karl Stern has said many times, their story is still not finished at that younger age.  But it's a different business now anyway so it's not a perfect formula anyway.

  1. Hey, how much does this Edge guy weigh.

  2. Yeah but he has 14 REAL good years. He could have easily coasted to 20 being a parody of himself.

  3. Edge was one of the greatest heels in the Ruthless Aggression if not THE BEST.

  12. He wrestled for Boarder Cities Wrestling in Canada I believe. I know him Christian, Rhino, & Joe E Legend were a heel group on the indies.

  13. If Edge were still wrestling the feuds he would have had over the past few years with Punk, Bryan, and The Shield would've been epic

  14. He might have a point though.

Edge got a serious injury in 2003 that took him out a whole year.
He then suffered a pec injury in 2007 that took him out for about 4 months.
Then it was his achilles that took him out in 2009 for about 6 months.

Cena's first real injury was in 2007 when he suffered a torn pec wrestling Kennedy. He came back 4 months later.
Suffered his second injury, this time a neck injury, wrestling Batista and missed out about 3 months.
August 2012, Cena is hurt again and needs parts of his elbow chipped. Missed about a month.
Last year Cena's elbow was massively swollen and needed surgery. He missed about a month again.

This only made me realize that Cena usually gets injured come Fall time.

  15. Easy HoFer for me, and fringe Top 10 candidate, TBH. Very few people could do as many different things as well as Edge. He wasn't quite as good in the ring as an HBK or a Hart (though he's closer than people think), he's one of the all-time best heels on the mic and in ring (if not quite on the Flair/'97-98 Shawn/Eddie god tier), he's a super compelling face (E&C era) or tweener (Crusade Against Everything Stupid, which is still the best gimmick ever), he's been in great train wreck matches (all the TLCs/MitBs/Foley matches), great wrestling matches (vs. Angle, Benoit, or Eddy in whatever combo), great blood feuds (Cena, Taker, kinda Batista, Cena), and he got over as basically five entirely different characters: creepy tweener/heel (Brood), goofy heel (E&C), plucky fighting underdog baby face (Smackdown Six), cocky heel (Rated-R Superstar/Ultimate Opportunist), and dangerously unhinged tweener-face (his last few years). On top of all that, he's got at least three truly classic promos (WRONG WRONG WRONG, the Flair Road-Rage Skit, You Suck!, and the Live Sex Celebration) and a dozen more borderline ones (his "hate" speech to Cena, any number of promos with Christian/Foley/Angle, the barmy-but-remembered "Spear spear spear" promo, and about half of his Lita/Hardy related promos).

Throw in buckets of great matches with the Hardys, Eddie, Cena, HBK, Taker, Orton (arguably), Benoit, Angle, Jericho (arguably), and that feel-good Hogan run, and he's got a pretty tough resume to beat. About the worst you can say about him is that he couldn't elevate a total stiff to a **** classic, but the list of guys who can be counted on your fingers.

Groin injury in 2004, torn pec muscle in 2005, and didn't RVD break his jaw in a match before WM 23 I believe?

    Now this is getting ridiculous.

  20. More of a personal favorite than an objective best ever (Ravishing Rick Rude holding on line one, Mr. Talbot), but in terms of sheer joy it brought me personally it's way up there.

  21. List gets real short, real fast if you enforce that. Specially if you're only counting NWA/WCW/WWE scale years, in which case I'm not sure even HBK or Bret make that cut.
