Flair vs. Shawn '91

Well, this is kinda cool: Shawn Michaels vs Ric Flair 12/16/91

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this was on one of their DVD releases in the past, but it's a good match to be sure.

  1. PPV wasn't a thing but did they do closed circuit or was that just for WM?

  2. IIRC, wasn't this one of the kayfab reasons Michaels turned heel?

  3. Sucks that Crockett went down. Yeah, Dusty's booking was getting bad but had they changed bookers and didn't sell to Turner, it'd be an alternative universe I'd like to see.

  4. So, is there a link to this match or are we just supposed to imagine it happening?

Oh, look! A Flair flop! Now a Flair flip! Now a Michaels Flair flip!

Now Flair's been thrown off the top rope. Didn't see that coming!

    **1/2.

  5. I remember that match being disappointing because Shawn was hurt. I'll rewatch it after football, but it seems kinda meh for a match of the day type.

  6. There is a link, it's closer than you think...

  7. Did Ric Flair WOO! At all?

  8. Indeed it was. I think it was mentioned by Michaels during the Barbershop segment.

This match was not on any of their DVDs.

  11. Flair chops Shawn, but Shawn stops selling, so Flair puts up his hands and begs off fearfully?

  12. Garvin should have been more.

  13. Starrcade was closed circuited before wrestlemania. It was on closed circuit

Dusty's booking wasn't as bad as people make out, and it's still light years better than anything WWE has done recently.

  15. Garvin was someone who should have just been a "challenger of the month" instead of someone who actually won the title.

  16. What did they waste monet on?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Some friend Jannetty was. He just allowed his partner to be humiliated.

  18. As much grief that Lord Alfred Hayes gets for his color commentary it's lights years better than what gets passed off as a color commentary in the WWE these days.

  19. I don't know, but this woman wasted a Monet, among others:

  20. Do we know where Crockett overspent? Wrestler salaries? Transportation? Gold toilets? Cocaine?

    ReplyDelete
  21. The second one is most correct, but the main problem was his lack of accounting, not tracking what he did spend money on.

(The jets were just the biggest money sink.)

  22. Mostly transportation. Do you need 2 planes? They tried expanding too quckly. Spend millions buying other territories. Accountant was Incompetent accountant or just to scared to say anything.

  23. While we're on hard to find (or in this case, not hard to find) maches...

The Brain Busters Vs. The Rockers from L.A. Sports Arena Jan. 29th, 1989...is that match on youtube or dailymotion? Best match between those two teams from that program and maybe the best tag match ever!!!

They reversed the "babyface in peril" spot with a "heel in peril" turn with both Rockers keeping Blanchard from tagging Anderson while they were illegally double-teaming Blanchard behind the refs back. Crowd went nuts for it...just like they do (or did, when they actually had tag team wrestling) when it's a babyface.

  25. I guess I'll keep watching the late game so I can see highlights from other games I'm more interested in during halftime.
