What was the deal with Summer Slam 88 anyway? The Hart Foundation and Rougeaus were feuding but didn't face each other, Roberts and Rude were feuding but they didn't face each other. Hell you could have even added Beefcake vs Ron Bass which The barber being all like, "I want to kick you ass for spurring me more then I want the IC title." Anyone have insite into this?
ReplyDeleteI really think they were using the show to keep fueling house shows. I don't think they viewed it as a culmination of the undercard feuds because those feuds seemed to carry over into fall, specifically Rude/Roberts. Bass/Beefcake was set to run into 89. That is the only reason I can think of.
ReplyDeleteI'm really enjoying the Season 3 "Seinfeld" reviews. S3 is, without question, my favorite season of "Seinfeld". I know it wasn't their biggest, most popular season, but it's the season where the show truly found its voice and hit its stride. The writing was more crisp, the guest star casting was incredible, and the debut of some critically important recurring characters (e.g. Jack Klompus, Babu Bhatt) was important to the overall arc of the series. Plus, Jerry's acting started to get a lot better. Just great, great stuff...
ReplyDeleteBingo. That was totally the norm in the late 80s. You look at WMs around this time and they were all filled with seemingly thrown-together matches with just a couple big blow-offs. House shows still ruled the day...

ReplyDeleteI agree totally... I honestly didn't realize this many classics were in Season Three... for some reason I always thought they were a bit later.
