Possible Hell In A Cell "co-main event" finish?

Hi,

I'm just sitting here wondering how difficult would it be for WWE to book a finish as shocking, as amazing and as remarkable as this:

Seth Rollins curb stomps Dean Ambrose's head on top of the cell, THROUGH THE ROOF and onto the mat? Rollins will obviously fall along with Ambrose into the ring!

I mean, calling the match off at that point by having the referee pull up the dreaded X sign, will not only look spectacular, but also protect both guys during the biggest push of their careers.

It's high time we get something great out of the whole Hell In A Cell deal that has stopped being destructive and career-threatening many years ago.

What do you think?

So after months of bait-and-switch and cheap finishes they should blow it off with a non-finish in a supposed cage match to the death?  By ending the match with both guys too hurt to continue?

I'm not sure I agree 100% with your detective work there, Lou.

  1. How about Rollins just takes out a gun and shoots Ambrose, instead? Because either way you'd probably get the desired result.

    ReplyDelete
  2. That would make an awesome spot and probably easier than what I was thinking (put Ambrose face down on the announce table and curb stomp him from the top of the cell - won't happen, i know)

I'm thinking Roman Reigns might show up (after interference from Kane) and do whatever so that Rollins loses, but not clean

    ReplyDelete
  3. It would have to be OUTSIDE of the ring, though, so that he doesn't get disqualified.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Is that even fucking OK to begin with? XD

    ReplyDelete
  5. Are you kidding? The injury potential for a spot like that, in either fashion, is ridiculously high.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I do think it's possible we see Rollins do a Foley bump. The bump he took at TLC at his debut was actually far more dangerous than the table spot at HIAC 98 anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Seriously. It's a guaranteed broken leg.

    ReplyDelete
  8. No DQs in Hell in a Cell matches. Let's not be silly here.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Well, I'm just a selfish fan after all. It's a stunt, and wrestlers are essentially stuntmen. If they know it's coming they might be able to pull it off injury-free, but that's the risk you take to do something completely memorable on your big night

    ReplyDelete
  10. Well, they did have a DQ finish in a Falls Count Anywhere match, so lets not get too carried away here.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Tell that Vince Russo.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Maybe if you're Kevin Nash, not necessarily if you're a nimble ninja like Rollins

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'm pretty sure you need to re-assess your whole take on this whole topic.

    ReplyDelete
  14. My take is that it would be great to see a memorable spot in the Cell for once, and if Rollins and Ambrose are cool with doing a controlled stunt, then let them

    ReplyDelete
  15. They're not stuntmen, at all. They're trained stage-combat fighters, at best.

    ReplyDelete
  16. That's just something a super proud old school wrestler would say. "We're not stunt men, we're wrasslers!" They are essentially stunt men, in my book

    ReplyDelete
  17. Sure, but the spot we're talking about wouldn't even be close to a "controlled stunt". Gravity is real, after all. Step back and think about the logistics of it. You don't need to be a physics major.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Congratulations, you've taken Ric Flair's opinion of Foley and applied it to every wrestler in history.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sure the stuntman aspect doesn't apply to the technical wrestling side of things (of which Foley was not too big on), but when we're talking about throwing people off the Hell in a Cell, that is a stunt, it's not 'wrestling'

    ReplyDelete
  20. Sorry, I meant controlled in the sense that they know it's coming and can prepare for landing somewhat. Maybe they could pad out the ring the way they did for those Big Show superplex spots? I don't know - all I'm saying is if they want to do something huge like that, they should let them

    ReplyDelete
  21. (Big) Bully (Busick) for you, old boy!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Remember when CM Punk followed Paul Heyman all the way to the top of the Cell and.... hit him a few times with a kendo stick? Fucking Hell in a Cell, a thing of nightmares

    ReplyDelete
  23. Is it even physically possible? Would Rollins foot really be attached to Ambrose's head all the way down to the mat?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Or four broken legs.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Roman Reigns should come back wearing a sheep mask as a new Wyatt and rip open the cage door so Rollins could get the pin.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I dunno, that spot reminds me of the people who were super stoked to "Do a stunner through a table" in old wrestling games. Why does it need to be through the cell?

I could foresee there being a few tables in the ring below the rigged area of the cage and maybe a power bomb or something else, but a strike move like that through the cage? Meh.

    ReplyDelete
  27. It needs to end one way: Seth's head wrapped in barbed wire while Dean curbstomps him dead.

    ReplyDelete
  28. This would be a great time to bring back the piledriver.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Detail you're not remembering:

The current Cell they use is A LOT BIGGER than the one that Foley and Taker fought in.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Make it a bouncy ring! They could bounce right back up to the roof of the cage!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Then you need to get a larger book with more definitions in it. While a wrestler may be called upon, or take it upon themselves, to do a "stunt" (usually with very little set-up, and certainly no second take), that's so incredibly different than being a "stunt man".

I sort of see where you're coming from, but it's a super-narrow view of it.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I too want the only reasons I'm watching Raw to suffer definite career shortening/ending injuries!

Why would Seth Rollins need ACL's anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Right, but when we're talking about throwing people off giant Cells, that is a stunt, not a wrestling move. You need your 'stunt man' brain on. I'm not saying that being a pro wrestler and stunt man is the same thing, but in this case it definitely is

    ReplyDelete

How do they both go through the cage without killing each other?

    ReplyDelete
  35. That is actually a detail I never learnt (didn't watch between 2001-2011)

    ReplyDelete
  36. And that's why "throwing people from a high fucking ledge" shouldn't be a wrestling spot.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Would you have preferred Rollins didn't take that bump at that TLC match last year or whenever it was? Because that falls under the stunt category too

    ReplyDelete
  38. Charismatic eNegro Jef VinsonOctober 21, 2014 at 12:33 PM

Choreographed fight scenes rival what a wrestler has to go through.

    ReplyDelete
  39. How about they just beat the crap out of each other, bleed, throw each other into the cage and then at the end, someone wins? Or is that too complicated?

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm picking up a lots of Sportz, but where's the Entertainmentz?

Seeing Rollins go through the mat feet first like a tent peg and blowing out his knees/back/whatever is memorable?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Charismatic eNegro Jef VinsonOctober 21, 2014 at 12:34 PM

Tonight's Hell in a Cell was brought to you by Flubber.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm just not 100% sure Seth Rollins having Jim Cornette's knees would really affect his career that much though...

    ReplyDelete
  44. I had a Jesse Baker vibe about 2 sentences into that.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Double table bumps are always a bad idea. Backwards table bumps while being pushed off an unstable ladder by Botchy McHurtEveryone is a bad idea.

Yeah, I would have been fine without that.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm an optimist you see, and I feel he'll be just fine! If you literally had to put money on him blowing his knees/back out or coming out of the spot without serious injury, what would you bet?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Unrelated, but I really hope "what's coming" is a 6'4" very pale baby with an Irish accent, a scraggly red beard and long hair that mattes to one's head the way hair should after you've worked up a sweat whooping someone's ass.

    I know it's NOT, but I hope.

I'd lean toward injury. Too many intangibles in that spot.

    ReplyDelete
  54. This isn't a TJ.

I'm watching some old NXT (s4) on Hulu+, and actually enjoying it. It's silly, sure, but it's refreshing to see all the talent enjoying itself without the leashes that are put on the individuals once they hit the main roster.

I may be in the minority, but I enjoyed Josh Matthews, Todd Grisham, and Matt Striker because they got to show their personality. They bust each others' balls through their earpieces, the announcers shoot the shit with talent at ringside, etc. Even if one doesn't like their schticks, at least they're DIFFERENT. I know that Grisham went to work for greener pastures, but it sucks that cost-cutting measures gets rid of much of the talent I enjoy.

It also helps that everyone has a live mic. Never a dull moment. Anyone feel the same or vehemently disagree?

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'd be surprised if this match is supposed to blow the feud off. I actually think it's a neat idea, although maybe too dangerous to pull off safely without upsetting sponsors/shareholders.

    ReplyDelete
  56. May I vehemently agree?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Seriously injured? Honestly, can't think of a one. All I ever see on double-tables though, is a guy hitting one table clean, and his head slamming off the other. Or clearing one, barely hitting the other, and landing solid on the floor. Didn't La Resistance legit hurt Spike on a botched double table spot? ( Which, granted, would have happened even with one)

They never seem to turn out right, is all i'm saying. I'd rather have not seen Rollins do that particular one, either.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I didn't mind Striker at first but he got really annoying with trying to prove what a wrestling nerd he was. It was cool to drop a Freebirds reference every now and then but once he started doing shit like, "I'm marking out bro!", I was ready for Lawler to throw a fireball at him.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Apparently though, a lot of his annoying commentary was fed to him, to make him look like an idiot. Allegedly.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Let's just have them actually kill El Torito.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Gunther the Nasty LoserOctober 21, 2014 at 12:57 PM

How's about the top of the cage be a giant cheese grater? That way, when Rollins curbstomps Dean, instead of the roof breaking, Dean's head is sliced and diced into little pieces, RAINING BLOOD FROM THE LACERATED SKY onto the ref and the ring below.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Grisham was better than Cole?

Jim Ross on Stone Cold's return: "BAH GAWD! BAH GAWD! STONE COLD! STONE COLD! STONE COLD! BUSINESS HAS JUST PICKED UP! GOOD GAWD ALMIGHTY!"

Michael Cole on The Rock's return: "Oh my God! OH MY GOD! You've GOTTA be kidding me! I've got goosebumps!"

Todd Grisham on Christian's return to ECW: "It's Christian."

    ReplyDelete
  64. Ambrose is from CZW I'm sure he'll think of something good for the finish, but sure that's viable without a social gimmicks ring which might cause problems in the rest of the matches

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  68. Auto correct strikes again. Special Gimmicked ring

    ReplyDelete
  69. Wasn't that one of the big reasons they made it taller? So no one is tempted for that kind of spot any more? Would be a cool visual but nah

A curb stomp by either guy to the other on top of the Cell could possibly be done, and be reasonably effective. They secure the shit out of that fencing up there now.

  104. ?? If seeing Ambrose finally get his hands on Rollins in a cell, seeing Cena get his hands on Orton in a cell, and watching two mammoths like Rusev and Show fight is not good enough, I want to see whatever mythic card you have in mind.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Stop stealing my spot bro

    ReplyDelete
  106. Yeah, finally getting to see Cena and Orton face off is a dream matchup. It's up there with Hogan-Flair in the late 80s as far as anticipation goes... All a matter of preference. I like both Rollins and Ambrose a lot, but the build just hasn't been that exciting for me. Watching Rusev/Show doesn't excite me either, since they already wrestled and Big Show looked like a goof needing help. But if you and others are interested then the buildup worked. But generally speaking, you will or would advise someone to drop 60 bucks on this?

    ReplyDelete
  107. The Evil Efficiency?

    ReplyDelete
  108. Holy shit...I feel awful for laughing at that.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Now if Randy hits Cena with the RKO (out of nowhere) on top of the cell and they both go through to hit the mat and are ACTUALLY to hurt to continue... it would be better.

    ReplyDelete
  110. How do they not get flak for the name Hell in a Cell in the PG Era? Shouldn't they rename it to, I dunno, Heck on a Deck or something? That would probably change the nature of the match, but people can't bleed and do crazy spots anymore already so why not give it an overhaul?

Film it in some dude's backyard, it could be like a Royal Rumble where you're eliminated when you get tossed over the edge. Ooh! And there could be a pit of alligators at the bottom!

Okay, no alligators. Still a good idea though.

In fact nearly every match on this card has been on free TV over the last month, all with clean finishes. Only the Ambrose/Rollins match is a money draw. It's hard to make a case for spending money on the rest.

  116. Bad Blood 97 joke yo.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I hate this mentality of having to protect both wrestlers by not beating either of them. If you need to protect someone so much, they shouldn't be facing each other. Steve Austin lost to Bret Hart clean at Survivor Series '96 and was beaten so badly at WM 13 that he couldn't continue, and he turned out OK.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Where do u learn to do that by the way?

  119. What are the best Hell in a Cell matches of the no-blood era?

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  121. Fuck that noise, have a match in a bouncy castle.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Just finished watching this for my own recap...I agreed with you on most of the matches, Andy. And you and I are in agreement: why was the final match "no holds barred" if it was in a tag team format? Reminds me of WM 29 where Shawn Michaels wouldn't get involved in the No Holds Barred match with Brock Lesnar.

    ReplyDelete
  123. The biggest stunt I could conceivably see happening is the Shawn/Foley in every other Cell match bump where they fall through the table halfway up the Cell. Possibly when Rollins escapes the Cell somehow and stupidly climbs up while Dean stupidly gives chase and gets kicked down through a table.
