Royal Rumble

Scott,
Who are the best WWE wrestlers to never win a Royal Rumble?

Well the most glaring omission would have to be Kurt Angle.  He was on the hot streak of a lifetime around those times, but just never ended up being the guy to win.  Second choice would probably be Chris Jericho.  And I'm always surprised that post-comeback Shawn Michaels never won it, although he had two of them from the previous version of his career.

That Shawn vs taker finally when taker won was so epic. They had been kept apart since Shawn came back and it kicked off their feud that ended at WM26. Just awesome. (Even with minor botched ending).

  2. Curt henning in 90.

He officially won 2000 despite the screwiness

  5. Yeah I'm counting 2000.

  6. Slight threadjack: best wrestler never to be IN a Royal Rumble? When I think of the Rumble I almost always move to Razor Ramon, who as perennial IC champion was forever confined to the undercard. He, Jacques Rougeau, and the Dudleyz seem to be the pillars of this little group.

  7. Sheamus winning the Rumble over Jericho in 2012 was a fucking crime. It didn't wind up doing him any good, and Jericho's program with Punk was far more impactful, so being set up by Jericho just randomly winning a battle royal for the shot at Mania was just piss poor.

Disagree on it not doing him any good. Despite how people feel about the 18 second win over Bryan, Sheamus went on to have a very respectable WHC reign IMO

  9. I had just started watching again around the time of the Rumble that Alberto Del Rio won. I honestly thought he was a random lower card guy just filling up the space... and he fucking won!

    ReplyDelete
  10. I dunno, he's been so under the radar since then that I wonder how many casual fans would even remember he was world champ a couple times already.

The ending with Santino was great, IMO. I WAS MARKING OUT, BRO b/c the crowd was so hot and it was fun and different

  12. Gotta draft a list of guys to be in the Never Rumble. Razor, Steamboat, D-Von, Bubba, Rougeau....

  13. Shawn and Taker closing out that Rumble was amazing. I was sold on a match between them right there. We'd have to wait two years but I'd say it was worth the wait.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Santino seems to have that happen to him a lot. In the HIAC with Bryan he had the crowd behind him too. I always had hopes for a Foley-esque win at some point.

  15. A hot crowd makes all the difference

    ReplyDelete
  16. Not to mention the unintended side effects of that battle royal... Barrett dislocated his elbow and Dolph and Kofi were lucky to avoid serious injuries.

  17. That Rumble is one of my favorites.

    ReplyDelete
  18. That was great. Crowd was so hot that it actually felt like Santino could have won

    ReplyDelete
  19. That was a great finish. You knew ADR was going to win, but there was enough doubt to think.. maybe they'd give Santino a shot at the 2nd belt to do something different. Why not? Match ended up curtain jerking anyway.

  20. Shawn and Undertaker closed Royal Rumble 2007. Their feud didn't start until the build to WrestleMania 25, two years later...

  21. Magnum T.A., Verne Gagne...

    ReplyDelete
  22. I've always felt Razor Ramon is one of the best wrestlers to never win a Royal Rumble, plus he never made an appearance in the match itself, which still remains a little strange.

  24. Jesse Ventura plays the bad guy on this week's Ninja Turtles cartoon!

    Randy Savage

  26. Yea, but they fought again in 2008.

  27. I kind of wish that they would do away with the "winner gets a WWE Championship shot at WM" stipulation because it takes away any type of suspense from the Rumble when you know that only about 3 people out of 30 or 40 has any chance of winning. Of course the current WWE writing philosophy precludes any real type of forward advancement up the card unless you are pre-slotted as a main eventer upon your debut.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yeah, he sort of got lost in the IC shuffle during his years in the WWF while the RR coincided with his run. Always thought they should've pushed him to the world title level and see what he could've done with it

    ReplyDelete
  29. Mick Foley, Ted Dibiase Sr., & Eddie Guerrero never won one. Imagine Eddie's celebration dance if he had :D

    ReplyDelete
  30. Honestly, when I first saw Vader's vignettes, I thought there was no way anyone else but him was going to win it. I was even a huge HBK mark and I thought it was just such bullshit when I saw him eliminating Yokozuna AND mother fuckin VADER. Fuck off with that. Wrestling may be fake but that shit was just BULLSHIT.

Kinda like when R-Truth eliminated both Mark Henry and Big Show. Who came up with that?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I would hate that. Then it takes all the stakes away. Then what's the point of winning this Rumble--a match that is supremely difficult to win? For "bragging rights"? I'll take stakes over "anyone can win".

    ReplyDelete
  32. He basically won the Rumble for Rey.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I was there for that Rumble. Rey bummed me out so much. He was laying down for the most of the match.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I still like the title shot stip, but ever since 95 when HBK was literally the only guy that made sense to win it, it does become slightly predictable. But with thoughtful enough booking, they can even make obvious situations work. They did have me going for a minute (via scramblevision) when bulldog's music hit. Left me thinking "what the hell are they doing?"

    ReplyDelete
  39. It's fucking hot in here, And it's Spring, the summer will be worse. In the party, the girl, I stayed with her.

    ReplyDelete
  40. It's fall here and barely 40 degrees outside

    ReplyDelete
  41. Lucky bastard.

Correcting the sentence, the girl was in the party, She almost took me to her place but she did not had the key, she went to sleep in the dorm.

    ReplyDelete
  42. The same girl as before? How has that been going

    ReplyDelete
  43. It's doing a okay, she goes on her rants sometimes and blablabla, I was with her in the party and she said "oh, I don't like you". Then I said, " so why are you kissing me? You like me, so I why are you saying you want to take me to your place"?

She was speechless then, she dragged to the wall and kissed me.
