That time Hacksaw Jim Duggan sang the song from "Frozen" to my stepdaughter

Canadian Bulldog here (don't pretend like you don't know who I am!!!). You and I are the last surviving members of the Hart Dungeon; Tyson who?

I recently posted an article on my website about meeting one of my wrestling heroes that I feel may be of interest to your readers. It's one of hundreds of pieces on http://canadianbulldogsworld.com about wrestling books, DVD's, action figures, comic books, Top 50 lists, magazines and other merchandise and memories.

Thanks for your consideration, Scott. I'll never forget this - just like I won't forget that time you put Smith in your patented reverse armbar and made him tap like a woman.

I already forgot who wrote this e-mail, sorry.

  1. Oh man, if the plan is for Austin to job to Cena then the RAGE will be real.

    ReplyDelete
  2. I seriously doubt that Austin would job to anyone.

Let me go further. I seriously doubt that Austin will ever wrestle another match, period.

  3. TJ, but speaking of cursing, I just
recently watched the Rock/Hogan rematch again from No Way Out 2003 for the
first time since it happened, and goddamn Rock swears his head off during that
match. At one point he has Hogan in the Sharpshooter and just blatantly yells to
the crowd “FUCK YOU, YOU SONS OF BITCHES!” . Later he gets sent out of the ring
and openly says “Shit!“. I’m sure there’s
    others. More swearing please, it’s
    great.

  5. I don't think I've ever heard a story about Punk politking. Closest thing is him bitching about Miz getting that spot in Mania.

  6. I really hope they start taking WrestleMania overseas. Santa Clara screams small time. They need to start treating it like an international event and less like the Super Bowl.

    ReplyDelete
  7. People tend to only remember the good from the past, and the bad from the present. Just like the Attitude Era was this wonderful utopia of perfection from beginning to end, while 2014 is apparently the worst year in history.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Punk doesn’t bitch backstage. He just walks out on Raw and
shoots! That’s the way real men air grievances.

  11. I liked two of those opinions, but not the
other two. Put me down as a half.

    ReplyDelete
  12. My prediction is that Austin comes back at 31 in some non wrestling capacity and they run a big angle at the show or the next night on Raw that leads to his comeback match at 32 in Texas Stadium.

They pretty much need Austin wrestling if they want to sell that place out.

Watching the Bunkhouse Stampede 1988. Nassau Coliseum was such a bad choice for a venue.

The NWA ring was shockingly tiny.

  14. Not that interested in an Austin return. I just want to like watching WWE again. Is this Bella thing finally over?

  27. if u noticed he always drank busch na or coors cutter. said it right on the can.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Not totally related, but Meltzer kinda ticked me off with his correction of a supposed AJ Lee nude photo news item. Not only did he get the original news item wrong (which even NEWZ sites reported as erroneous), but then he just started making excuses about how the model in the photo was trying to look like AJ. Just admit you jumped the gun or didn't do due diligence to even confirm.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I don't think they really need to change things up. Wrestlemania is one of the things they get right. In terms of money and interest generated for the event, they've been ridiculously successful during this dome/stadium era.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yeah, that Super Bowl thing is never gonna catch on.

    ReplyDelete
  31. A Mania in Japan or England would be just as successful.

    ReplyDelete
  32. That's not what I said. The point I was making is football is an American thing, they're restricted to America. Wrestling is worldwide, they can go anywhere they want.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yep, they should follow TNA's blueprint of success!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. With their current Network model, the time of the event is not nearly as important as it was in the past. So, in theory, it would be worth considering if they could make more money in those areas. I could see England. Japan, not so much.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Austin winning his first match in 12 years, followed by another retirement would be quite counter productive really.

    ReplyDelete
  36. That's the thing, they know they can sell out huge stadiums for WM in the states. So why add time zone and major travel issues to that? For a B PPV, sure. Wrestlemania? Hell no.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Power_of_Hogans_HOF_RingOctober 6, 2014 at 9:21 AM

England would be a lot of fun. The Japanese crowd dynamic (from what I understand) might hurt some of the festive atmosphere that Mania achieves.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Neither did Punk or Flair.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Probably as many people, if not more, stay up and watch the Superbowl in the UK as watch Wrestlemania. The NFL sells out Wembley Stadium every time it comes over.

But if WWE didn't mind putting Wrestlemania on a Sunday afternoon US time, they should totally do it at Wembley Stadium. Then I could go, which is important to me.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The Love-Matic Grampa!October 6, 2014 at 9:23 AM

Sure it would, but I just wonder how he'd take the news. Plus the crowd dynamic would be insane. Actual fighting might break out in the stands!

    ReplyDelete
  42. It's sad when Road Warrior Hawk is in the best match of the night in a 1988 NWA.show.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Punk and Heyman had a great dynamic, they seemed to
genuinely enjoy each other’s dastardly company. Maybe Ambrose and Heyman would
hit it off, Heyman giggling maniacly as Ambrose rambles on.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yeah, it's pretty much a case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." It would be interesting if they could do big bucks for a B PPV over there, though. It seems like the amount of people traveling from overseas to see Wrestlemania numbers in the tens of thousands, so they could try to take advantage of that for a Battleground-ish PPV.

    ReplyDelete
  45. It's interesting a couple years ago Vince looked fucking awful, pale, run down, saggy. Then he had that cane match vs Punk on Raw and he looked fine then and since then hasnt been as bad as he had before.

    ReplyDelete
  46. They’ve always hated the time difference and how it might affect buys,
and it does affect UFC buys, but now it’s on the Network who gives a shit? Do
all PPV’s in Nottingham, England, please. Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Plus they need to keep Brock strong, any chance Austin can work a Tuesday taping?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Who, Nikita? Im 300 and he looked way bigger than I do.

    ReplyDelete
  49. The weird thing is that Steve Austin's podcast with Ric Drasin was like a month ago. Why is this getting press now? Are people JUST listening to it?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Chalk one up to Davey Boy Mootzer being wrong about TNA again. Gail Kim and Samoa Joe are part of the list of talent confirmed for the UK Tour in January. Mootzer reported last week that both were finished with the company.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Power_of_Hogans_HOF_RingOctober 6, 2014 at 9:28 AM

Yeah, that happens a ton, but it's part of it. Wrestling is designed to be fun, which lends itself to warm fuzzy feelings and nostalgia. Rose colored glasses apply to all kinds of relationships. (Sadly, as evidenced, they can ruin the good thing you have right now. 3 main event guys from The Shield.Who know where they'll settle in come WM time, but during the E's off season (the Tuesday after Summerslam - the Raw before TLC), it's great to see them all elevated.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Heenan and Bockwinkel made each other even better.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Guess he went by The Fappening as a source.

    ReplyDelete
  54. He genuinely wasted my valuable time with that news item
last week. I did stumble upon the Velvet Sky picture during my travails though,
    so that was good.

    ReplyDelete
  55. They could ape WM 2 and hold it from multiple locations.

Start in Japan, then go to England, then to the east coast of America? Make each event a day-long affair with lots of dark matches that are pertinent to those continents. Release them on a multiple DVD collection.

Probably more trouble than it's worth but I'd go that route before the 'Let's put our biggest egg into an unproven basket' risk of having a wholly non-USA Wrestlemania.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm pretty sure they just wanted to stick it to Vince and run a PPV in his "backyard". I grew up in Virginia and NYC, alternating between parents. I was a fan of both JCP and the WWF.. most of my NYC friends could care less about the NWA wrestlers.

    ReplyDelete
  57. They should bring back hanging for this one.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Maybe they are going to be over here anyway wrestling for ICW or PCW, and have now confirmed with TNA that yeah, they can make it fit the schedule.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Should I actually go see TNA on this tour? It might be my
last chance. I never went to any of the other MAXIMUM GLOBAL IMPACT tours as I,
you know, don’t really like TNA.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I look forward to Steve Austin opening up a can of whoop bum on John Cena and raising heck on Raw.

    ReplyDelete
  61. All I know is that my girl and I had already decided to go to the Birmingham event. So of course, they're now playing only in Glasgow, London and Manchester.

Which is like going on tour in USA and only playing New York, Los Angeles, Florida, and then wondering why the majority of the country just sighs and stays at home. Not because Birmingham is important. But because it's retarded thinking. Who plans a wrestling tour where you DON'T try and attract the hicks?

St. Peter: Says here you frequently published inaccurate news about something called "TNA". That's a pretty serious offense.

Meltzer: Well, you know, plans changes.

St. Peter: Good enough. Welcome aboard!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Their contracts are expiring. That is all anyone reported and TNA yanked the belts off of them both. And TNA has yet to announced that they are re-signed.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Missed that one, my favourite remains Kevin Nash visibly mouthing "Motherfucker" when he loses his WWF title to Bret.

    ReplyDelete
  66. If Samoa Joe has re-signed, he's a moron. Kim has no choice.

Who knows if WWE wants Joe but he can do better in Japan right now than be a JTTS in TNA.

  67. THROW ME A STEVEN-UP AND GIMME A HECK YEAH

    ReplyDelete
  68. Yeah, none of those are massively convenient for me as I’m
in the Midlands as well. But apparently last time they came to Nottingham it did
poorly and they decided to never come again. I’ll probably skip it. If there
was ever a time to go, it would’ve been to see Sting, Flair and AJ etc a few
years back. The idea they might expect me to cheer Spud as some kind of English
hero makes me a bit queasy.

    ReplyDelete
  69. And ever since then Punk started looking awful, pale, run down, saggy.

AJ Lee has starting looking a bit tired, just lately.

Makes you wonder. I'm not saying Vince has passed on some kind of alien AIDS-like parasite. But I am saying we should consider it.

    ReplyDelete
  70. AWW HECK YEAH! 1998 RUNNIN' WILD!!!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Kim is married to a celebrity chef. She doesn't need the money, its all a matter of if she feels like wrestling still.

    ReplyDelete
  73. If WWE wanted Joe, they would've scooped him up years ago. He was a WWE jobber for 3-4 years over a decade ago and they didn't want him then. They're not going to change their mind now that he's in his mid-30s.

WWE also has an ironclad relationship with the Ana'oi family. If they are looking for a Samoan wrestler, that's where they always turn.

Joe could go the AJ Styles route and make a lot more money on the indies than with TNA at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Yeah, I had really wanted to attend on their last tour but the timing was all wrong for me, financially.

If there should ever be any big Midlands shows, hopefully we and our respective partners can go?

I actually WOULD cheer Spud but only because a) He's tremendous, and b) I swear I can remember being served by him in the bank he used to work in.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Aye, absolutely. I wanted to go to the next set of WWE
tapings here, which are in Liverpool, but they sold out almost instantly.
Hopefully the post-Mania set will be Midlands based. I went to my first ever TV
taping when I was on holiday in the US in the summer and loved it.

I don't know, not on board with the whole Spud thing, but I probably haven't given him much of a chance. I think I'm genuinely unwilling to give him a chance too, which is probably unfair. I just... don't know why he's the guy TNA picked as their UK superstar from that reality show they did. He just seems almost... useless? What is he for? :)

John Cena will be Raw General Manager

    Sound hideous. But plausible.

Roman Reigns will be on a WrestleMania winning streak

    Eh.

Hideo Itami (KENTA) will be Mr. Money in the Bank

    That sounds intriguing.

WWE NXT will compete with Raw for brand supremacy

Because that worked out so well for Smackdown, right? The fact that SD! isn't even in the running for this scenario tells you everything you need to know.

There will be a WWE Network Champion

And somewhere, Zach Ryder will shed a single tear.

Dean Ambrose will be the longest reigning WWE World Heavyweight Champion of modern times

I can get down with that.

WrestleMania will be held in China

    NO CHANCE IN HELL.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I remember there were rumors that WWE made him a token low-ball offer in late 2013 which was even lower than what TNA offered him. Styles never confirmed it himself though.

I am surprised if WWE did, because WWE today doesn't seem to be in the market of hiring wrestlers in their mid-to-late 30s (Styles is 37). Based on KENTA and Devitt, 33 seems to be the absolute cut-off (and both those guys were special cases hired in part because of their international appeal).

    ReplyDelete
  86. Right. And if they didn't want Samoa Joe in 2000, they're not going to want Samoa Joe in 2015.

    ReplyDelete
  89. 2014 isn't that bad, it's just gotten massively stale again. 2006 was the worst year in history. I'll take a nostalgic ride through the pretty dismal 1995, but I can't imagine EVER wanting to watch anything from 2006/2007 again.

    ReplyDelete
  90. My ex is Californian. I had the opportunity to go to the Raw when Jericho came back and silently trolled the audience. We didn't go in the end, because she had a migraine. A migraine that didn't stop her from spending the night watching TV. I was... annoyed.

At first I thought he was just the TNA Hornswoggle, and then I realised how very funny the guy is. Spud is... tremendously entertaining as an old-fashioned stooge or manager. I think he has fantastic delivery and timing. There was a match he had on some one-off TNA PPV where he had to team up with Bully Ray (despite them both being on opposite sides at the time), which I recall Thomas Hall giving the full 5 snowflakes to, and I'd say it pretty much earns it.

    ReplyDelete
  91. The cut the camera away from him too quick, the whole line was "Motherfucker, that was the greatest match of my career and he deserves to be WWF Champion."

    ReplyDelete

    Also, TNA GONNA DIE!

    ReplyDelete

And who is he wrestling at Bound for Glory again?

    ReplyDelete
  122. So they're not resigning the talent then? Seeing as there is no TV contract. Or perhaps they can sign imaginary contracts to match the imaginary TV contract?

Only if the new TV deal will allow TNA to afford them. A lot of the interested networks that have been mentioned are significantly smaller than Spike.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I still like TNA, but some people reporting Meltzer's word, when he has been wrong about everything TNA for a year now, as fact is ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as the Austin vs. Lesnar Mania 31 conversation last night.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Yeah, they're not making it that far. I wouldn't be surprised if sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas, we see the following:

  138. Also, wouldn't any prospective buyer, before signing a contract to air a TV show want to ask, "So, who's on this show of yours, anyway?"

Which would require signed contracts. They're in a catch-22.

Wouldn't surprise me, seeing as to how WWE is burning so many bridges as of late.

  147. He was right about AJ being unhappy, BFG in Japan, and Spike not renewing the show.
What has he been so wrong about?

    ReplyDelete
  148. Strange then that if these countries all together are such a profitable lot, that they would still nonetheless not be resigning talent until they get a US deal. I mean, why aren't they broadcasting for their massive worldwide audience outside of the US? Especially when their next tour is outside of the US?

    ReplyDelete
  149. Surely. But without a sexy set of names on there already, what incentive is there for anyone to give them a deal in the first place?

  155. Of all the acts from Attitude that would simply not work in this environment, I can't think of a better example than Stone Cold. Everything about that character was PG-13.

Unless Austin has figured some way to only appear in the overrun on Raw I don't see a purpose to a return. It will just be so tragically watered down.

Also I was present live at his last match so my selfishness dictates he keeps his ass out of the ring.

We all know that if Cena is GM, he will in fact wear the cap.

And instead of a hankie in his breast pocket, he'll have a tiny towel.

    ReplyDelete
  158. I was at that show as well and I concur with your selfishness.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Nah, you're delusional stance on TNA is embarrassing you.
They have no TV deal in place for 2015. That is a fact
They are letting contracts expire because they are unsure of their future. That is a fact.

  160. I'm not "hung up" on anything. I'm glad he's gone and fuck his overrated ass.

He had no issue with Batista because Batista's run may have been short, but he wasn't a part-timer. He appeared on every show and PPV during his return.

    ReplyDelete
  164. They have no TV deal in place for 2015. That is a fact

Says who? Just because Meltzer doesn't have the inside scoop doesn't mean Dixie doesn't have a verbal agreement with another network. TNA isn't obligated to announce the day they sign with another network. You are so pessimistic its ridiculous.

They are letting contracts expire because they are unsure of their future.

No, why would TNA bother re-signing guys and pay them from now until January when they aren't being used for any dates? It would be like throwing away free money. It's a smart business move.

    ReplyDelete
  165. If you look at the TNA website though, most of those countries don't carry TNA weekly -- they carry monthly TNA PPVs or specials like "Unfinished Business" and "Greatest Matches".

    ReplyDelete
  166. The only embarrassment I'm seeing is your head firmly planted in Dixie's ass. As heavenly as it must feel for you, it's not exactly... unbiased.

    ReplyDelete
  167. So they have a deal, but they aren't announcing it. And they have no more dates, so they aren't re-signing guys. Yep, all is swell in Dixieland.

Your post as well as your viewing habits made me think: it would be amusing if the TNA/Spike relationship was like George and Susan: Spike wants to break up with TNA but TNA is like, "Mmm, no. I don't think so."

    ReplyDelete
  170. And now I'm angrier. Fuck that music having lyrics.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Their last show is on 11/26.
The rest of the year on Spike is best of's and compilations.
But you're right, a company that announces the signing of any bit roster member is going to keep the TV deal a secret. And not have their champ wrestle on their biggest show of the year.

Either Shawn definitely loses by count-out or he has a chance of kicking out before 3. Easier to kick out than to get up on a bad knee and walk before the COR.

  181. Joe's contract, Aries' contract, Gail's contract, the millions of times the locker room morale is down, Bully Ray done with TNA, NO WAIT he signed a deal to appear at BFG, NO WAIT he signed a deal to do the Impact tapings and BFG, NO WAIT! he signed a deal to do the Impact tapings, wrestle at BFG, and be in the HOF induction, Muta and TNA announced BFG in Japan at their own press conference, Meltzer reported it afterwards, he had no idea about Lashley coming back, he was wrong about Lashley dropping the title if he lost his MMA fight and keeping the title if he won his MMA fight because Lashley retained his title then lost it to Roode, Styles done with TNA, NO WAIT! hes signed through BFG, NO WAIT! he's signed through the end of the year, NO WAIT! he's signed through January to drop the title to Magnus, NO WAIT! he's; going to defend the title all over the world!, Impact done on Spike TV in September, NO WAIT! October now, NO WAIT! TNA broke the news that they would be on Spike until the end of the year. I could go on for days. Meltzer has been completely lost when it comes to TNA for the better part of a year. Don't kid yourself. TNA has been breaking THEIR OWN news before Meltzer can report it and claim it as getting "the inside scoop!",

    ReplyDelete
  193. The rest of the year on Spike is best of's and compilations.

Where has this been confirmed anywhere? Oh wait it hasn't.

Didn't your boy Meltzer report that TNA has no TV contract then say they have 4+ networks interested and Dixie is going to run a live show on January 7th on the new network in NYC? Does that scream a company going out of business or a company being uncertain? Even Dixie herself on Twitter all but confirmed that TNA will be on US TV in 2015 when she was asked by a TNA news site that treats the company with respect.

Oh yeah and what about Meltzer saying Muta's Wrestle-1 is a "vanity" project. Yeah, OK. They are crowning their first champion in two days and tag champs next month. Muta wasn't even in the tournament. They are building a fairly solid roster and could become the #2 promotion in Japan.

    ReplyDelete
  194. So just like Costanza, you are using the cane just for a fashion statement?

    ReplyDelete
  195. ... you're JUST figuring this out?

    ReplyDelete
  196. I bet you are just drooling and starring at the clock awaiting the next episode of Observer radio. "OH DAVEY PREACH TO ME!!!!!!"

Bully will re-sign with TNA and will still be with them next year. Meltzer was wrong about ALL of the deals he reported and continued to try and correct himself.
