BoD Daily Update

Update on the Settlement Between Alberto Del Rio and the WWE

According to sources close to the situation, the WWE was very conscious towards any public relation tying them with racism against Hispanics and it is believed that part of the deal includes that Del Rio would not make anymore negative comments about the WWE, notably when it comes to implying racism in the WWE and in return Del Rio received a monetary settlement that includes his non-compete clause being dropped. Someone else close to the situation noted that at one point the joint settlement included a public apology from the WWE for inappropriate remarks but took that out of the deal in its written settlement and another source noted that since Del Rio got his money and the freedom to work elsewhere he did not press the apology.

TNA TV Deal Update

There is noted to be tremendous frustration in TNA about a TV deal not being reached yet. The company recently had a meeting with Destination America, a station in the Discovery Network family. According to sources close to the situation, the company should know whether or not a deal will be reached by the end of the week. Some of the talent in the company has been told that Spike TV is still the most likely destination while others have been told differently from Spike. Talent has been getting increasingly frustrated since they have been told a TV deal was a week away since Bound for Glory and some of the veterans have been saying in private that they are unsure if the company is coming back, despite being recently told that a deal was expected to be reached by 11/19, the date of the last first-run episode of Impact on Spike.

  1. So Del Rio is not allowed to call Vince McMahon a Perro. Got it. (slow news day)

    ReplyDelete
  2. Never burro trouble when you don't have to, amigo

    ReplyDelete
  3. In the days of social media the WWE being racist towards Hispanics genie is way out of the bottle. They have gotten killed on twitter by Hispanic fans for months. Cody Barberrei is their social media expert and he had to lock his twitter account. They already took the PR hit. Good for Del Rio, always was a big fan, glad to see the WWE have to pay him off and let him go work for a competitor. He used and abused the WWE from day 1 so hats off to ADR

    ReplyDelete
  4. TJ: I'm watching Great American Bash 2008 this morning and they reply a throw away wwe.com promo cm punk hyping his match with Batista. One of the best babyface promos I've heard in years and years. God Punk was the best, sucks so bad they fucking ran him off with all their stupid bullshit.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Janet Jackson is in last place?????????????????

    ReplyDelete
  6. how DARE they make him one of the top guys of the past decade!!!! THAT DASTARDLY WWE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  7. The TNA TV thing is just a joke at this point. Gotta think Bully Ray's cryptic tweet yesterday had everything to do with this situation or something related to it.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I'd only even heard two before, Soul Asylum and the eventual winner of this contest Steal My Sunshine,.

    ReplyDelete
  9. He should have stayed and accepted a secondary role to HHH for way less money?

    ReplyDelete
  10. If he was burned out, and was leaving anyway, I'm fine with him leaving. But this absurd line of thinking that he was treated badly by WWE is as absurd as TNA fanboys saying that Spike TV didn't do enough for TNA. (as discussed in an earlier thread today)

    ReplyDelete
  11. Steal My Sunshine is going deep. I wasn't a big fan but as a child of the 90's I heard that song once or twice, had to vote for it.

    ReplyDelete
  12. The code for pop tarts in the vending.machine at work?

    F5.

Imagine my disappointment when they didn't come out via said maneuver.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I saw him get put on the back burner for all of 2013 and then have to sell for a midget at the Royal Rumble. All after they dropped ppv payouts.

    ReplyDelete
  14. "Story of My Life" needs to advance, DAMMIT! Mike Ness demands satisfaction.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Gotta agree with this. He wasn't treated badly by WWE at all. Granted, the creative for him sucked and all, and that is the primary reason he's not there anymore, but it's not like he wasn't making money hand over first until the day he left. Hell, he's still making money sitting at home doing nothing.

The idea that "WWE treated him badly" is flawed thinking.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Funny, I saw him get a 430+ day title reign, then beating Jericho, having a huge high profile match against Brock where he had the visual pinfall, then beating up Heyman's cronies easily, then beating the Shield 1 on 3, then going 50 minutes in the Rumble only for him to get screwed over by outside interference.

WHAT A DEPUSH!! Why couldn't he have been champ for 600 days instead of just a measly 430+ days?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Huh? They absolutely cut his pay, the ppv payouts are gone and they never replaced them. Not only did they fuck up his booking but they slashed his pay. If my job tells me I'm making less money and doing less important work than people I'm better than its mistreatment. Me, I'd just mail it in half assed everyday, but Punk told them to fuck off. Good for him.

    ReplyDelete
  18. What exactly are you talking about? He didn't wrestle on a single PPV that didn't have payouts. His last PPV was before the Network launched.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Doin it better advance

    ReplyDelete
  20. It's just Jobber being Jobber. It's entertaining.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Watched the latest episodes of Flash and Supernatural on Hulu last night. Really good stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  22. LOLOLz. You saw him beat Jericho? I saw fandango and ryback and bray wyatt do the same thing. Who cares? He got a visual pinfall on Brock and then did the J-O-B, and then worked a year long feud with a manager and two jobbers (which he single handily made into gold), that's garbage booking and they asked him to work for less money.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yes he left right before it launched. What are you talking about?

    ReplyDelete
  24. You said "they cut his pay". They didn't. He wasn't a part of the PPVs that had payouts eliminated. He wasn't on the active roster. What part of that did you miss? Are you his accountant or something?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Only songs out of there I really liked was Natural Born Killaz and Janet's Again.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The Great American Bash was a great PPV name.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Lol, how silly you are when we have a great July ppv in BATTLEGROUND!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. It is quite difficult to get up to 5 songs that I actually genuinely liked on some days. I suppose you have to cover all the bases though.

    ReplyDelete
  29. He left right before they switched over because he never got a satisfactory answer about the pay outs (among other things). They still haven't gotten one by the way. Its very simple. He didn't want to work for less money. What part did you miss? ugh its pointless to talk wrestling with a wwe fan boy. Such a waste of time. Just go watch raw or something buddy.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well they did bring it back in 2004, to be fair. Pretty bad PPVs though.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yeah we got caught in a weird spot to make the math work... so we either had to slash way down and cut some good stuff out or just blow it out and cover everything. Bigger is more fun, right?

    Thanks for voting!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. "According to sources close to the situation, the company should *no* whether or not a deal will be reached by the end of the week"
    Freudian Slip

    ReplyDelete
  33. Right, he didn't want to work for less money. That is correct, but that's different than "they cut his pay". They didn't.

And I'm not a "WWE fanboy", I am just beyond sick of the Punk apologists. The guy has been gone for damn near a YEAR, on his own accord. Just move on. He clearly has.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I always felt that WWE honestly did not know the new payout structure. That's why they didn't give any false promises, since it was a totally new system. I don't think they were purposely lying about cutting pay. I would at least have given WWE a chance for a few months, to see how it would end up. Punk just quit right away, on the assumption that it might be lower. (turned out to be true, but he didn't know that yet)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Also, there seems to be this concensus that he was 100% automatically jobbing to HHH at Mania. That was rumored, but never confirmed (was he gonna be Vince's avatar or something?)

    ReplyDelete
  36. About as entertaining as a STD.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Meh, you just have to embrace it (unlike an STD. Definitely do not embrace those)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm just speaking tongue-in-cheek. He's entitled to his viewpoint, of course.

    ReplyDelete
  39. There's a steamroller called Return of the Mack that takes down all in its path

    ReplyDelete
  40. Good for him. Please show me where I said he needs to come back? I was talking about a six year old promo. I'll still enjoy his old work anytime, so thanks fanboy but I'm I'll set with my punk fandom.

    ReplyDelete
  41. See I try and vote for songs that represent the 90's to me. Like I hate that fucking sunshine song and I love that Wu Tang song but the sunshine song should do better imo.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I have been handling it the same way. Usually reserving one vote for a favorite and picking the others by what should move on.

    ReplyDelete
  43. That's a good zing wwe fanboy. You could write dialogue for Dean Ambrose with your sharp wit!

    ReplyDelete
  44. At the very beginning at least, getting an STD is entertaining. How many other diseases can you say that about?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Of course I'm entitled to my point of view. I'm 100% correct. Your point of view, I guess your entitled to it since it's a free country, but I'd prefer you share it at a fanboy site as opposed to this blog. Deal?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Were they even around in the 90's though?

    ReplyDelete
  47. 9 years since Eddie Guerrero died.

Damn, does time fly when you're past 25.

    ReplyDelete
  48. He was at his very best when he passed away too. His 2005 heel work was just so good. I think he was just about to have the prime of his career. Such a horrible tragedy.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Nothing big enough to be included, that i am aware of. We had a couple of Rush fans involved in building this and they didn't mention anything.

    ReplyDelete
  50. A big wrestling pet peeve of mine is when a heel gets a face super angry before a match. I get that it builds heat, but storyline wise, it doesn't make sense. The face will just wanna hit you harder, and beat you up more badly, and he'll be even more determined to not quit.

So Eddie playing nice with Batista, and sucking up to him, as to not anger him was AWESOME. Then he died. :(

    ReplyDelete
  51. I voted for it! I'm not a huge fan of that kind of music but even I know and like social distortion. Plus it was very 90's

    ReplyDelete
  52. One of the most infectious smiles ever. He was just the best.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I think there was one in 2004 also right? Maybe the Taker/Dudleys "paul bearer concrete" match? But I didn't know it went all the way to 2008.

    ReplyDelete
  54. My votes for the 90's songs:

    Natural Born Killaz
    Story of My Life
    Doin It
    Triumph
    Black Gold

    ReplyDelete
  55. I could see in Kayfabe how that would be a good idea though. It gets the face off his gameplan so he's more worried about getting his revenge than winning the match. Still Eddies twist on it was brilliant and the execution during every segment was unbelievable. That was really going somewhere. I'd be sad if Eddie died anytime but its so awful he died when he did because he was really taking it to the next level.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I did last year yes.

and again with this "steak knife sharp" burn, as if this should offend me and lead me to suicide or something. I don't get it. lol

    ReplyDelete
  57. I didn't vote for doing it because I can't stand LL but it was a great video so I'll have no hard feeling if I see it in the 2nd round.

    ReplyDelete
  58. But... the thing is... the game plan usually consists of beating the hell out of your opponent... So "game plan" and "revenge" are basically the same thing. It's not like say, Basketball where you'll miss your jump shots cause you're so angry that you shoot it harder than usual. The harder you hit the guy, the better your chances of winning.

    ReplyDelete
  59. 25 years and my life is still
Trying to get up that great big hill of hope
    For a destination

    ReplyDelete
  60. Love the Daily Update. Keep up the great work.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Oh, do greatest = sales of singles, not quality of songs. Gotcha.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Roll The Bones was 90s! It had a hip 90s rap section and everything!

    ReplyDelete
  63. He's obviously getting ready for Grumpy cat week and all the no's that will be had :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. His character/acting skills were at its peak, wouldn't say his in-ring ability was at its peak, however.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Not if it makes you take chances that you wouldn't have otherwise. Or wear yourself out faster than you might have if you weren't SO MAD!

    ReplyDelete
  66. LL is lame but that's a good song.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I was sort of making fun of that barb.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Getting a little tired of Supernatural. Haven't watched past the third episode of the new season because I didn't like how quickly they turned Dean back into a face again after heel Dean was the only interesting thing about the new season.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Well it's too late now! I have been forevah scorned! SCORNED, I tell ya!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Well very true, but in this case you might be able to get the guy to charge you in the corner after you pull the turnbuckle pad off or and have him nail it, or you could make the ref admonish him because he's so worked up and then get some kind of international object out of your tights to hit with him. If you can get your pointed crazed like some kind of wild animal you might be able to out think him and have the advantage.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Yeah but the face might get so angry he makes mistakes, can't focus properly, loses sight of his gameplan and fails.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Yep, I get the mistake thing, but then he puts you in a submission hold, but you hate him so badly, that you'd rather die than give up. So... Heel is screwed!

    ReplyDelete
  73. I can see that, and dude made a GREAT heel. I'm guessing the overall arc will involve something bigger.

But, if you've been a fan of the show, this episode is a must watch.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Didn't have a dancing rapping skeleton in it. Roll The Bones did.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I'm 27 and each year seems to go by faster and faster.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Is this a song about Bray Wyatt?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Bully's (reportedly) been wishy-washy: first, he has major pull with the company, including booking backstage. Then, he tells the locker room he's leaving. Then he's back to acting like he's a part of management before most recently giving that cryptic tweet. Don't believe the "next week" stuff, but it's hard to put much stock into Bully either.

Did del Rio already do his shoot interview? Sounds like that might end up being a bit more dull than everyone hoped...

    ReplyDelete
  79. I'm 32 and it's the same. It's for the best. Life is just killing time between Wrestlemania seasons. They should come along as quickly as possible.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Wrestlemania 31 tickets are going on sale today. Too bad last year was for the fans, and this one will be for the McMahons.

    ReplyDelete
  81. huh? there isn't even a match booked yet. And there was tons of gloom and doom 4 months before WM 30 also.

    ReplyDelete
  82. NO!!! I QUIT!! [/Cm Punk/PetulantChild]

For such a crap bubblegum summer song, Steal My Sunshine has a special place in my musical heart, don't know why.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Kind of a combination of all factors, but yeah success, mainstream and underground, sales, icon factor all factor in.

    ReplyDelete
  86. He taped his RF shoot already but his YouShoot is pending.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Got my new shoots today so the poll tonight will have guys who were recently released by the WWE

    ReplyDelete
  88. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 13, 2014 at 8:58 AM

This was always my assumption. They couldn't give definitive word because they had no idea what kind of money they would be pulling in from the Network, and therefore didn't make any promises to people. Some guys were pushing for answers, news sites were reporting the complaints from some others and the story got blown up, probably needlessly.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Ah, all the pyro when Roman Reigns wins the WWE belt with his new finisher, the back body drop.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 13, 2014 at 9:00 AM

It's the November doldrums, where we all assume the worst. Remember this time last year, when Daniel Bryan was facing Sheamus?

Regardless of how crappy the storylines are in the fall, I feel like WWE always ends up ramping up the excitement when it comes to what ACTUALLY happens at Mania.

    Let it play out, kids.

    ReplyDelete

  93. I can't hear Natural Born Killaz anymore without New Jack throwing weapons in a ring.

  94. They are a corporation that is traded. If they had not figured out the structure before hand then they are either incompetent or knew it would be less but didnt want to underestimate in order to piss off talent.

  100. Good back and forth between Jobber and VJ.

    ReplyDelete
  101. No matter how bad it was last year at this time, I personally never completely stopped watching it like I have this year. It's pretty fucking terrible right now, even for November.

    ReplyDelete
  102. November was the worst last year....crying Big Show's push.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Meh. They're both blowhards. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  104. Maybe we'll get another awesome Dusty promo.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Who are you again?

    ReplyDelete
  106. Oh, that much is def true.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Well you'd also hopefully select the right guy to do this against. Hogan or Undertaker in kayfabe would be a horrible idea but maybe a savage or Sting type guy might get caught up in the moment and completely lose their head and then you have them at your mercy. Or rig the match rules too like Christian did to Orton and then just bait a DQ.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 13, 2014 at 9:09 AM

I think you're right, it is a little bit worse this year than last year, which says a lot about the loss of performers they've had. Punk and Bryan helped to keep the show interesting, the Shield and the Wyatts gave some glimmers of hope.

It's bad this year because of the decimated roster.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Don't mind me. I'm just being pissy.

    ReplyDelete
  110. The lackluster roster is their fault.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Yo Mama's date last night.

    ReplyDelete
  112. True. But it was a better song. One of my all-time faves.

    ReplyDelete
  113. So it will be like his matches?

    ReplyDelete
  114. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 13, 2014 at 9:13 AM

I'm not sure what your point is. There are a number of reasons the roster is at a loss right now. The injuries to Bryan can't be 100 percent attributed to the WWE. The injury to Reigns, either.

They've introduced a number of new characters/performers and not all of them have caught on. Sometimes you throw a bunch of spaghetti at the wall and none of it sticks. It was a year of shitty circumstance and second-rate stories. WWE takes some of the blame there, but I wouldn't assign all of it there, either. They've had to make due.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I'mma threadjack for a sec: How long will Appalachia delude itself into thinking that coal jobs are coming back? I just read a story about how a Republican with no visibility and hardly any cash beat a longstanding Democratic state senator in West Virginia. I feel sorry for the people in coal country, who are being duped year after year into thinking that any politician of any party can bring those jobs back. They just don't get that the market is skewed towards oil right now because it's so plentiful and cheap.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  125. Or they didn't know how many people would suscribe to the network yet, which would vastly affect the potential paydays?
