Mr. Perfect

Hi Scott,
Is it safe to say that Curt Hennig in 1990 was the best wrestler in the world?

Ric Flair and his multiple ****+ matches with Lex Luger strongly disagree with that.  I'd even say that Ted Dibiase was a better wrestler in 1990, so Hennig wasn't even the best in the WWF that year.  So no, not safe at all.

  1. Wasn't 1990 the year of El Dandy?

  3. Yeah but did Flair ever throw a Hail Mary to himself?

  4. The Ultimate Warrior was WWF Champion in 1990. He was the best wrestler in the world.

  5. Hennig never really had a chance at this title. His IC title came at a point where he didn't exactly get a sterling line-up of challengers (Beefcake, Von Erich, Bossman). Not that he didn't have good matches with them, but none of these guys were going to give him a match of the year candidate. By the time he met the guy that he could really open up and have a great match with, Hart, he was injured and missed his chance to capitalize on the momentum of their Summerslam match. He did have a few great matches after returning, but he was never featured in a way that he could build the catalog of matches that would put him in the Best in the World conversation. He was a great wrestler who was always capped by his position. Ted DiBiase was in a similar spot.

  6. Flair was also the best in the world a year earlier. Seriously, MULTIPLE 5 star matches. Both technical and brawling. With two completely different opponents.

Misawa might have more classics under his belt but not so many in a single year in two completely different styles.

  8. Mr. Perfect's horrid match against The Ultimate Warrior in the spring of '90 puts an end to that idea. Yes, Flair had a bad match with JYD, but it wasn't as bad as that one TV taping match between Perfect and Warrior. Blown spots all over the place and both guys were at fault.
