Place To Be Plug

Hey Scott, I was wondering if my latest column on Place to Be Nation could receive a cheap-plug (insert Mick Foley thumbs up and wink) from you? Have a nice day.

Examining the WWE and the Road to Survivor Series
Two weeks ago, WWE announced their Network numbers, and to no shock, they were less-than-stellar. WWE then decided to disband the six-month commitment, a...

  1. I really like the memes, and the cat is actually cute. But this is fucking stupid

  2. We're closing in on the return of wrestling plumbers. Watch out Steen, you might be TL Hopper Jr. in another 6 months.

Well, he's still gotta be better than Dr. Ken, right? Right?

    Yeah, I got nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Nothing like making sure your entire audience shits on a show live and is utterly embarassed to tell their friends they even watch it, just for a small payoff for shilling something 99% of the WWE audience wouldn't watch anyway.

  6. And here I thought we were past this 2009 bullshit. Meanwhile, over on the Network WCW lost the Monday Night War because they had special guests like Chucky and not a cutting edge product.

I'll be stunned if the cat actually appears live. Probably just a bunch of pretapes with the Zigglers and R-Truths of the world, complete with D-level sitcom gags.

    ReplyDelete
  8. well you know the saying, "those who revise history on DVD sets and on the network are doomed to repeat it."

    ReplyDelete
  9. Im actually thinking....you know.....maybe Jeff Jarrett's Mega Force Wrestling or whatever its called may not be that bad......anything but WWE or TNA. Im desperate

    ReplyDelete
  10. The shark has officially been jumped my friends.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ugh. Grumpy cat was cute, but c'mon. Enough.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Hmmm ... I've seen worse things on RAW and I'll take my Aubrey Plaza where I can get it.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Lucha Underground is our best hope.

    ReplyDelete
  14. she won't be on it in person, just a voiceover

    ReplyDelete
  15. Vince probably saw his first Grumpy Cat meme last week.

I'm guessing that the Chocolate Rain guy was already booked.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don't even get that and I have a pretty extensive satellite package on Dish (pretty much everything but regional sports channel package and movie channels)

    ReplyDelete
  17. That's it I quit WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Appearing on TNA next week.....Piano Cat!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Reason #..I lost track, of why RAW is a streaming pile of shit. Good god.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Only thing that could get me to watch this week would be Aubrey Plaza in a pillow fight match. But we don't get those anymore cause #PG

    ReplyDelete
  21. this is so over-the-top ridiculous it might actually be fun train wreck.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The more hear about that promotion the more curious I become. Is basically AAA in North America? It's what it sounds like.

    ReplyDelete
  23. More than I could possibly name here but if you read this blog you probably already all the beats by heart now.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think it's something about Defenders Of The Earth or Captain Planet.

    ReplyDelete

Scott did review a show a couple of weeks ago if you're interested

    ReplyDelete
  26. *Titan Towers*

Vince: "Well, it's only logical that you host Raw. He's gonna.. He's gonna... HE'S GONNA HACK UP A HAIRBALL! HE'S GONNA HACK... AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!"

    ReplyDelete
  27. If this is a secret strategy to push people into buying the Network so they can watch ANYTHING ELSE it's brilliant.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Pretty sure she's gonna fight Chuckie, and Robocop will make the save.

    ReplyDelete
  29. C'mon! All of us were rooting for Chucky to bump off Rick Steiner at Halloween Havoc, weren't we? Instead we got Buff to do it. Doggone it!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Can we get a Pun Dog run in?

    ReplyDelete
  31. How do people actually continue owning stock in this company?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Surprisingly it's kinda relevant since the Lifetime Grumpy Cat movie is around the corner, and if she's voiced by Aubrey Plaza doing her April/Grumpy Cat Schreck...well that's better than Hologram Bray

    ReplyDelete
  33. You know, my kid was watching the live-action Underdog movie last night. Any chance Vince will be babysitting the grandkids while they're watching it and decide to book an angle and match between Underdog and Zack Ryder? Loser leaves WWE?

    ReplyDelete
  34. At least this stuff used to mostly be confined to Santino. Now. Dean will probably use the cat to make fun of Bray.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Vince and Stephanie have been getting REALLY desperate for mainstream attention over the last two years, even more so than usual.

Once they had no shame about making a big announcement about inviting Michael Sam to RAW (which he cared so little about he didn't even respond), there's no turning back. Any D-List celebrity, even a D-List Animal Celebrity, is fair game.

WWE might as well just go to a washed-up celebrity autograph signing convention and just ask people to guest host. I'm sure Tony Orlando has nothing better to do.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I read that and it sounds pretty good. It's interesting they got Mundo/Morrison and use him as a feature guy. Prince Puma/Ricochet is a pretty big name on the independent scene these days. Interesting stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  37. lol that's awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Good, they can play TNA out

    ReplyDelete
  39. honestly, despite the garbage WWE has done (Rosie O'donnell comes to mind), that angle and the Bushwhackers with Jamison are still the two times I was most embarassed to be a wrestling fan.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Mega Force! Was an 80's movie! AVGN review it. It was GREAT and Jeff Jarrett needs to steal ALL OF IT! For his promotion.

    ReplyDelete
  41. WWE as timely as ever, I see.

    ReplyDelete
  42. This is the GO HOME SHOW to your PPV on the free Network month. At best, it will be as minimally time-consuming as Chrisley.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I can guarantee you it isn't mainstream attention (although that doesn't hurt) but rather a paycheck. With the network issues and lower revenues at live events, it doesn't hurt to show investors a new source of revenue. In this case with Chrisley knows best and Grumpy Cat they have shown a new, shameless source of revenue. Pay us some money, we will shill anything, even knowing our audience will absolutely crap on it.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I know Grumpy Cat is a female cat, but I still can't get over Grumpy Cat being voiced by a chick.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Then the grumpy cat folks better be paying big bucks considering how many fans will be changing their channels to the football game instead.

    ReplyDelete
  46. hey vince, this kinda shit is why people get embarrassed to publicly say they're fans of wrestling.

But does the cat fit on a wrestling product?

Stephanie McMahon better fucking raise awareness for me, because all this cringeworthy shit they do is giving me cancer.

    ReplyDelete
  56. It's a female, actually. Oh, a fucking stupid idea for a host.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Of course, the cat can fit as a weekly character in fact and be some sort of meta character where the cat can call something stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  58. This is one of those moments where you wish you could post memes in the thread.

    Patrick Stewart is needed.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Patrick Stewart hosting Raw would be amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Fight memes with memes. I like it.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I know it's a female cat, but everytime I look at the meme's I have a guy's voice in my head when reading it.

    ReplyDelete
  66. "Where can I get those dancing gerbils? What do you mean they're animated?!?"

    ReplyDelete
  67. Yeah the voice doesn't match the cat at all. I was actually looking forward to the movie when it was first announced, but the trailer made me less enthused to see it.

    ReplyDelete
  68. They already have a giant talking pussy on the air with Michael Cole. Might as well let another one host RAW.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Biggest single-day decline in Network Subscribers in the history of the product.

    ReplyDelete
  70. My friends and I have this tradition of watching the shittiest movies we can find.

That trailer put it on the list.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I think WWE overall only cares about the paycheck, but Steph has definitely become the annoying 'be a part of every cause and let everyone know about it' type.

  72. F'N Body Slams - Dan SelbyNovember 10, 2014 at 11:12 AM

Totally wrong move, wasn't it... It just doesn't sit right at all.

Surely everyone pictured it talking in a male voice, just generally sounding disgruntled.

Now it's some bitchy sounding woman. Way to go.

    ReplyDelete
  73. December 1st RAW to be hosted by Mentos dropped in a bottle of Diet Coke.

    ReplyDelete
  74. The poor cat obviously has a tragic accident awaiting him where he will lose the use of four legs.

    ReplyDelete
  75. F'N Body Slams - Dan SelbyNovember 10, 2014 at 11:14 AM

haha Just you wait til the voice is done by a bitchy sounding woman...

    Because this shit is stupid.

  89. What kind of antics will ensue when the king of goofy pranks Dean Ambrose meets his match in Grumpy Cat?

    ReplyDelete
  90. Oh Dean's gonna slime that cat

    ReplyDelete
  91. As God as my witness, that cat is broken in half!

  97. Already heard the voice. It's not good. Doesn't match the cat to me.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Damn it, all four? I was wanting to see the two legs, two wheels rolling contraption.

    ReplyDelete

Grumpy Cat Christmas movie looks like a college freshman filmed it. The Miz's Christmas movie looks like It's A Wonderful Life compared to it.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Grumpy Cat's upcoming appearance on Raw gives me hope that we might one day get Overly Attached Girlfriend and the Numa Numa guy to appear. Winger could be the special guest musical act; it'd draw dozens.

    ReplyDelete
  105. TJ: CM Punk to write for Marvel comics...

    http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=56972

    ReplyDelete
  106. Ha...the fool..creating content for one of the hottest properties on the planet....instead of performing with a internet cat.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I'm pretty sure Vince meant "angry cunt" in reference to getting Courtney Love to guest host.
    .
I'm sure Grumpy Cat will make him laugh, however.

    ReplyDelete
  108. That might be the most random post-wrestling career I've seen yet.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Hey this is as up to date as Vince has been in years

    ReplyDelete
  110. If they don't get Winger, they're headed for a heartbreak.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Hey, the Muppets guest hosting Raw was harmless fun. Who knows.

I hope that Grumpy Cat just spews out a bunch of regular smark complaints.

    ReplyDelete
  112. http://i.imgur.com/eLyUtIb.gif I'd watch the Cat Wrestling Federation

    ReplyDelete
  113. I hope this episode gives Jerry Lawler another reason to make a Wimpbusters reference. That was the real highlight of the Muppets Raw.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Reminds me of the joke in the Rifftrax of The Last Slumber Party during a particularly horrible hair metal track playing in the background during a scene: "This is the band you get when Winger won't return your calls".

    ReplyDelete
  115. The dueling EXCUSE MEEE's was the best part for me.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this will be one of those Raws that holds up really well in ten years time.

    ReplyDelete
  117. It should make for some cute gifs at the very least.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Post of the day bravo

    ReplyDelete
  119. If I was Sandow or Heath Slater, I'd claim I caught some kind of illness while in the UK.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Do they not have a single person on staff with the balls to say 'ya know Steph, I don't think this is a very good idea. You cats can't talk, right? And the SPCA will be all over us if she gets RKO'd'

    ReplyDelete
  121. An RKO would be good, but Orton really should bring back the punt kick for this one.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Meow.

    What???

    Meow.

    What???

    ReplyDelete
  123. They at least need to use the Funaki overdub.

Grumpy cat, do you hate this?

    INDEED!

    ReplyDelete
  124. Honestly, this will probably be better than any other guest hosts they've had this year.

    ReplyDelete
  125. You know this wasn't her idea, yes?

    ReplyDelete
  126. From the comments on the peoples pet article:

"Wrestling fans have 0 interest in this. People have already resented the fact in droves."

    followed by the astute:

"Wrestling fans have zero interest in anything. Even wrestling. They'll complain about anything."

    ReplyDelete
  127. I'm so allergic to cats I'm going to have to watch the Cavs game instead to avoid an asthma attack.

    ReplyDelete
  128. That's so incredibly not the point.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Leave it to WWE to hop on a meme a smooth 18 months after people stopped caring.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Okay, this works if, since she is an Internet meme, GC somehow appears with smarky captions around her.

And now I am envisioning '80s WWF having the MTM cat appear on say Superstars. She could have appeared in her circle after every segment, dressed as one of the wrestlers as she meows (like they made the cat a cop in Hill Street Blues, a surgeon in St. Elsewhere, etc. etc.)

    ReplyDelete
  131. On the other hand, if you squint, GC looks like Greg Valentine returning to the company.

    ReplyDelete
  132. So sad yet so true

    ReplyDelete
  133. What . The.. Fuck.. That looks like a shitty movie even by Lifetime Network standards.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Gunther, good work. When I was reading thru these, I was wondering who else is as old as me (No offense if you are not old) to remember Mr T Ate My Balls.

Good work Sir. You should join my Webring!

    ReplyDelete
  135. Whoopi Goldberg would have been a better choice. Sounds like a man, but technically is a woman.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Disqus has disabled my ability to upvote, since I used it so much in this thread. Seriously, good work team.

Serious lols were had, as you kids say.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Mega Force was one of my favorite cheesy 80's movies, watched it twice as a kid. It doesn't hold up well..

    ReplyDelete
  138. This is a travesty.

Sockington deserves to be the first cat to host RAW.

    ReplyDelete
  139. I nominate Grumpy Cat for the animal wing of the WWE HOF!

    ReplyDelete
  140. "Yep Mode" Abeyance Brown ©November 10, 2014 at 2:47 PM

I nominate him for an immediate entry into Wrestlcrap,

    ReplyDelete
  141. I was pretty surprised to find out Whoopi Goldberg was an actual naturally born woman She looks like a Ninja Turtle.

    ReplyDelete
  142. My guess is they tell grumpy cat about the network for just 9.99 and then they CG a smile on him.

    ReplyDelete
  143. On one hand it has aged terribly. On the OTHER hand watching what was "cutting edge" in the 80's become ghastly outdated now is pretty funny. The flying motor cycle and the lead guys' TIGHT outfit.

    ReplyDelete
  144. yeah but there is about to be a cat hosting raw so they have a legit reason lol I get the point maybe if the product wasn't so bad people would care

    ReplyDelete
  145. what for all time disasters?

    ReplyDelete
  146. Muppets can talk and should be entertaining they're having a freaking cat host the show

    ReplyDelete
  147. Yeah its hard for me to get to too mad at this after they finished the last ppv with a ghost run in.

    ReplyDelete
  148. A cat hosting Raw that's not Garfield? But he hates Mondays! And he'd be on MONDAY Night Raw! That shit would write itself!

    ReplyDelete
  149. That... That was the entire premise of your post.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Wish you were curled up sleeping instead of having to be up late on this dumb show?

    INDEED!

    ReplyDelete
  151. Will only watch if Grumpy Cat takes a chair shot and blades

    ReplyDelete
  152. I'm against cruelty to animals. However, I would pay to see someone drown that fucking cat.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Is this the point at which they have finally jumped the shark?

    ReplyDelete
  154. ["rod" = not pg joke]

    ReplyDelete
  155. The Canadian Steener.

    ReplyDelete
  156. If WWE want to have Internet memes host their shows, I personally think they should get a hold of Giorgio Tsoukalos.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Where the Hell is Dusty the Fat Bitter Cat when we need him?

    ReplyDelete
  158. Good point. I was wondering who would have to deal with this since Santino was gone.
