Shawn Michaels In WCW

Hey Scott, I recently watched one of the Legends Roundtables (on the network!) and they mention that after Michaels and Bret Hart's backstage fight in 1997, there were rumors that after Michaels left the locker room he was going to Boston where WCW was taping 1997 in order to jump ship to them. My question is, why did Bischoff never really go after Shawn as heavily as he did Bret to get him into WCW? At that point Michaels was easily as over as Bret, maybe even more so, plus his buddies were basically running the show there. I've heard some people say that WCW wouldn't have known what to do with him just like they didn't know what to do with Bret, but I find it hard to believe that with as much stroke as Nash had that he would have been buried. Was it a case of Michaels being worried that Hogan would halt any advancement for him there or what?

Bischoff couldn't ever officially go after Shawn because he was locked up airtight with the WWF, although apparently at various points in the Bret feud Shawn threw tantrums to Vince trying to get fired and/or released so he could go to WCW with Hall & Nash.  That would have of course been suicide, but Shawn was on a lot of drugs at that point anyway.  Bischoff was smart enough not to tamper with contracts by that point and there was no actual threat of Shawn leaving, as much as he wanted to by 1997.

Comments

  1. Comparing Ziggler to Shawn Michaels is an insult to Shawn Michaels.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Shawn would never make it in WCW, he loved being a big fish in a small pond.

    ReplyDelete
  3. We're really still doing the "HHH buries people" thing? Was this e-mail sent from an AOL account using Netscape, on a 56.6 dial up modem?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Also, I understand that Cena is still booked as the top guy, but I love the constant ignoring of all the times that Cena has jobbed clean. It does happen, more often than pretty much any top face ever. But nope, Cena never loses and buries everyone left and right, and nobody is ever ever ever allowed to win other than him. nope!!

    ReplyDelete
  5. You should write an email to Scott to air your grievances.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I don't think he'd ever have left, I think he was just mouthing off. A lot would have turned out differently if he had gone. One would have to assume Bret stays in WWF forever, Michaels wouldn't suffer the back injury against the Undertaker, and given that the staggeringly NOT over Hunter Hearst Helmsley only had his high spot at that time because Shawn liked him, HHH would have probably ended up back in WCW too.

    ReplyDelete
  7. "Ziggler works hard, fans cheer, Zigger loses" sounds exactly like what they pretty much always do.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I agree he wouldn't have made it in WCW, but I think Shawn believed he could have made it with the same reasoning he used believing Hogan would lay down for him at Summerslam 2005 or the PPV after.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I don't know about all that. But, I could see where Rusev and Sheamus brawl out to the floor, through the curtains, and are both eliminated so you don't have to have Rusev lose.

Let's say you wanted to do a slow build to Rusev/Cena for maybe Mania, it might not be a terrible plan to have that same scenario with Cena instead of Sheamus. That would leave the door open for a lower card guy to win the whole thing.

    ReplyDelete
  10. There's no doubt that Cena jobs clean and often, however I think the point the OP was trying to make is that in Survivor Series matches, the prevailing pattern for years has been that the biggest names (especially the biggest face) stay till the very end. This does get a bit repetitive, so instead, why not have Cena go out early, have him pass out to The Acolade or get counted out, and then let someone like Ziggler do the match ending run. Especially if Team Cena loses anyway.
Remember how at the very first Survivor Series it was built up as Team Hogan vs Team Andre, Hogan got eliminated early on after he got to face off with Andre and the end potion was Bam Bam Bigelow stood by himself as part of their plan to make him a monster face.

    ReplyDelete
  11. He's once again made himself the center of the show. Fuck HHH.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Maybe the guy got here actively trying to
    find RSPW.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Michaels would have been miserable in WCW, there was no way that he could have handled being, at best, 3rd banana behind Hogan and Nash.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hogan’s contract was up at the end of 97,
maybe he’d have felt like moving over back to the WWE if the politics behind
the scenes were getting a little too Kliq-ish.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Book it like the Hulkamaniacs (Cena's Team) vs The Million Dollar Team (Authority) from 89 with one extra person per team.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hogan was part of the "Kliq" running WCW at the time, and even if Michaels joined WCW I sincerely doubt that it would effect Hogan's standing whatsoever.

Michaels would likely be at Hall's level in WCW. Considering how much Shawn was a mark for being the top dog back then, I doubt he would've been happier at all.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Thank goodness he didn't, because who could have been a better second banana to HHH in the most revolutionary, single-handedly saved wrestling faction of all time, DX? #Politburo

    ReplyDelete
  18. There's zero doubt that Shawn wanted to go probably as early as fall 1996, but he was under contract the entire time.

If Vince had released him he would have been on the next available Nitro without question, hell i think he would have returned from retirement in 1999 if Vince had cut him loose then.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think it's possible, maybe not probable, that with Shawn, Hall, Nash and whatever friends they made, that there could have been a shift behind the scenes around the time

    ReplyDelete
  20. The Bischoff/Hogan relationship was the same as Vince/HBK relationship where Vince and Bischoff put up with a lot of shit and let it fly because at the end of the day they had a hard-on for the guy. Only way Shawn and the Kliq could have had any power in WCW was if both Bischoff and Hogan were turfed out.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yeah I'll bet Dolph can't take nearly as much drugs.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It's possible, but this is Hogan. He was calling the shots in WCW from the moment he stepped into the company until Russo worked-shooted him out the door at Bash at the Beach 2000. Heck, even in WWE in 2005 he was calling the shots in his feud with Michaels.

I honestly think WCW would've handled Michaels as badly as they handled Bret Hart. And I don't think he would've gotten the support system to step back and get himself clean from 1998-2002 if he were in WCW. Hall and Nash were more enablers than Hunter and Vince were. If Michaels went to WCW, I think it's very probable that he would've ended up on the long list of dead wrestlers.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Vince? Hard on for Shawn?

    Nahhhhhh

    ReplyDelete
  24. Vince: "Wait after the show, Shawn!"

    ReplyDelete
  25. Or he was doing his "Woah-ho-ho-ho-ho!" thing on commentary

    ReplyDelete
  26. I can remember watching RAW live back in the day. Every week I thought, "These guys are getting their asses kicked", but as soon as D-X got onto that little tank thing and headed down a ramp towards what was apparently the parking lot of WCW, I thought, "YES! THE MONDAY NIGHT WARS HAVE TAKEN A TURN! THIS IS THE MOMENT!"

    ReplyDelete
  27. Give the Ziggler thing a rest. Why push a poor man's Seth Rollins when you've got the real deal on the roster anyway? And I'll bet that if/when Ziggler gets a push to the top, most of his over-ness will evaporate pretty quickly. The guy very much benefits from the perception of being held down; it's the main thing he's got going for him.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hogan was smart enough to avoid Austin. Hogan would have been booed out of every building when Austin came out.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Ziggler's career peaked when he beat Del Rio. The next month until his concussion he was just there.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I remember watching and wishing I could just fast forward all the parts that had the bald guy with the goatee and get to the REALLY important parts. You know, the DX parts. Who can forget the New Age Outlaws vs. Midnight Express match and the X-Pac vs. Owen Hart match that co-headlined King of the Ring 1998?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yes yes everyone loved Gillberg, but DX is what really matters here.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'd have gotten behind a corporate Hollywood Hogan alligned with Mr McMahon against Austin.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Exactly. I mean, was Smackdown named after Gillberg? No, it was named after D-X.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 4th banana behind Goldberg too.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Sure if Hogan was going to be a pro it would have been a feud that could outdraw anything, but you know there was going to be a lot of backbiting behind the scenes.

    ReplyDelete
  36. On top of that, when Vince was making Austin 1998 money I don't think he would've wanted anything to do with Hogan. Don't spoil a good thing.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I couldn't fathom the money that would have made or how great that would have been.

'Hogan 3:16 says say your prayers, Austin!'

    ReplyDelete
  38. D-X was such an amazing stable, it even spawned a spin-off stable in The X-Factor. Now that's what I call success.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Savage too. Think Shawn would have been a long way back from the #1 spot. The only thing that would give Shawn comfort was that he was at least ahead of Bret.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm sure he would have wanted Hogan, but I'm sure Vince wouldn't have allowed Hogan to outmanuver Austin. It'd probably be the same deal as Hogan/Brock in 2002 where Hogan wanted his win back and Vince said "buh bye".

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hogan did monster buys even in shitty WCW right through to the start of
    99. I guarantee Vince would have taken him back if he could afford it. Wouldn’t
have been for the best probably, long term. But I don’t think he could have
turned it down, even if just to neuter WCW.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think Vince forcing Shawn to stay may have saved Shawn's life. If he'd gone to WCW, I imagine his substance abuse problems would've just gotten worse. And like Hall, I don't think anyone would do much to help him. Or they'd make it worse by making it an angle to be hip.

But forcing to stay in WWF meant being forced to retire, which forced him to clean up his act, find God, have a family, and then make an astonishing comeback and retire relatively healthy. I say relatively in regards to healthy for a retired wrestler. Seems like he's pretty healthy and happy in retirement. I doubt jumping to WCW would've created that.

    ReplyDelete
  43. That's true, I think Vince would've eventually gone for the Hogan/Austin match. However, I don't see it happening at the end of 1997 unless Vince gets REALLY desperate and runs Hogan/Austin at Mania 14 and gives Hogan the Tyson money to lose... because Hogan sure as hell wouldn't have wanted to lose.

In all honesty, I don't think Bischoff would've wanted to lose Hogan since they were so tight and would've done just about anything to keep him in the company.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Or, he would have gone there, Sting would have converted him to bible-bashing all the sooner, and he ends up as that old embarrassing guy in TNA. Michaels, I mean. We already know Sting does.

    ReplyDelete
  45. And he could've started banging Whisper a lot earlier, too!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Of course. The term "Smackdown" came from the time DX impersonated the Nation and Hunter, who was impersonating the Nation's leader (Farooq, I think?), said it.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I've always wondered would the nWo have worked if Shawn ended up being the third man instead of Hogan?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ahead of Bret for a time but Austin is putting WWF into outer space whether he beats Shawn or Bret for the title.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Wouldn't have worked nearly as well. Hogan was WAY more important than Shawn at that point.

    ReplyDelete
  50. According to WWE.com, right now Team Authority is Rollins, Kane, Rusev and Henry, with one empty spot. Harper's addition isn't official, and I think I know why.
HHH is going to add himself to Team Authority. It would be so against the HHH character they've created for him NOT to put himself on the team. The HHH we've come to know would never let five other people decide his fate like that.
So either HHH declines Harper's offer to add himself, or they take on Harper, and right before (or at) the PPV the match gets changed to 6-on-6 and HHH is Team Authority's sixth man. In that scenario, Cena's team surprisingly adds Orton or Reigns or Jericho.

    ReplyDelete
  51. What would have happened to HHH if Michaels left in 97? He was a real geek up until that point.

    ReplyDelete
  52. This seems constructive.

    ReplyDelete
  53. HHH would have had to speed up his plans to drug and marry Steph.

    ReplyDelete
  54. He still is. We're talking about the #1 babyface in wrestling history, the guy who was the hero to every kid who watched wrestling in the 1980s, becoming a bad guy after a dozen years of being the hero. It was like Optimus Prime or Lionel from Thundercats becoming bad guys.

Michaels was an AMAZING performer and extremely popular, but his popularity was nowhere in Hogan's league.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Well I wouldn't call it "early on", but yeah, that kind of thing can happen. My favorite is in the Chamber match where Edge inserted himself in and won the world title, Cena came in as the last guy,. and got pinned clean 1 minute in. Markout city!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Im pretty positive if WWF let Shawn go after wm 14 he would miraculously mke a return to the ring in WCW and Superkick Goldberg out of the strap.

    ReplyDelete
  57. correct that statement to way more important than shawn ever was....

    ReplyDelete
  58. Shawn would have been doing the same thing Bret did after he got there ... jobbing to Lex Luger in US title matches

    ReplyDelete
  59. ...and die of a drug overdose before the end of 1998.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Shawn was a hottest babyface act in North America in 1995 and while Shawn being the third man would have been pretty awesome, it wouldn't have drew the same interest/money as Hogan being the third man because Hogan turning heel was like the sky falling on us, whereas Shawn turning heel was nothing new and we were use to it.

    ReplyDelete
  61. "Coming to the ring, The HeartSmash Guy, Shawn Michaels!"

"He's just an Attractive boy-- attractive boooooyyyy...."

    ReplyDelete
  62. And telling us who are we to doubt Villano IV.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I fully endorse your assessment.

The nWo angle also wouldn't have had that sense of betrayal that it had in its first few months if the third man was Michaels or anyone else jumping ship from WWF. That's what made the angle brilliant for the first few months and led to the whole "is Sting with the nWo?" angle because if HOGAN betrayed WCW and joined the nWo, ANYONE could join the nWo.

    ReplyDelete
  64. well jimmy hart wrote that song. and jimmy hart was still in wcw. even though most wcw dongs sucked i think he coulda made a descent one for michaels.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I'm fine with complaints, I just wanna make sure the complaints are legit. Cena jobs clean (key word is clean) WAY more often than just about any other top WWWF/WWF/WWE face. It just gets ignored, unless he gets shunted down to curtain jerker status apparently.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Aye. Why would Sting just join Hall, Nash and Michaels? That whole story would be out the window. He'd just fight them alongside Hogan.

    ReplyDelete
  67. We'd just get some generic rip-off soundalike track like they did with Bret

    ReplyDelete
  68. Those dongs did suck.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Bret's didn't even sound like his WWF theme. It sounded like some Canadian Country song.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I love dongs that suck themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Shawn should have asked George Costanza for advice on how to get fired from a job. Maybe dragging the WWF title in the parking lot from a car.

    ReplyDelete
  72. At first, but then they switched it to a proper rip-off of his WWF theme I thought

    ReplyDelete
  73. "even though most wcw dongs sucked"

    Not touching that.

    ReplyDelete
  74. At what point do we officially start whining about a lack of daily update?

    ReplyDelete
  75. That would've just given Vince a back-up Hardcore Title.

    ReplyDelete
  76. You may be right. I probably stopped watching WCW before they changed it.

    ReplyDelete
  77. "Look at the adjective -- attractive!"

Hey, at least that would've been grammatically correct!

    ReplyDelete
  78. It's not about jobbing. Anyone can job. Instead of asking yourself how many times Cena has jobbed, you should ask yourself how many stars has Cena made and put over at his expense? I think Daniel Bryan was probably the closest.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Vince's son Mick Foley would have been thrilled.

    ReplyDelete
  80. At which PPV did that happen? I'd like to see that.

  82. I expect it at 9am eastern. I start getting upset at 10. My face turns red at 10:30. EXPECTATIONS, DAMN IT!!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Now THIS would be beyond awesome if it happened. If Cena's sixth man is Jericho, then meh, but either Orton or Reigns would blow the roof off the arena.

    ReplyDelete
  84. It's entirely possible that Bayless may....and don't quote me on this....

    .... have a life.

    I know, I know. It's a stretch.

    ReplyDelete
  85. And even then, it's not anything more than "Where's the Update?"

    ReplyDelete
  86. You should be too busy cuddling mine.

    With your mouth.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Where is that BLASTED dislike button??!!!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Yeah, he's been the center of the show since August 2013. I am almost certain that of the 50+ shows since then, "The Authority" (and John Cena) have had the opening segment every Monday Night. That's terrifying to think about.
I used to remember in 1999 when Austin's glass would open the show, and the place would erupt. I bring it up only because the person or stable that opens the show is usually viewed the 'Top Draw'...and frankly, I think we're all burned out from John Cena, Steph, and Triple H being the top draw, even if the perception is "this only way to keep the company afloat".
I don't need to remind everyone, but WWE lost over $350 Million in one freaking day. At this point, keeping Triple H and John Cena as the top focus is more of a power play/ego move than anything, because at this point it really wouldn't hurt the bottom line if they tried SOMETHING new. The fact that they lost $350 million, and then they just sat on their hands without trying to completely change the landscape...that's the most frustrating part.

    ReplyDelete
  89. You're too easy on him. HE IS OUR UPDATE SLAVE!! WE WANT RESULTS, DAMN IT!!! *punches kitten*

  97. Ok. The kitten punching made me laugh pretty hard, and I'm an animal guy.

  98. Unlike Meekin, who would REVEL in his Downvote total.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I started posting regularly maybe 2 months ago, I think. But I did post AGES ago, made one comment, got a bunch of downvotes, and thought "Well, fuck this then" and went back to lurking. True story. I think I said something negative about Gorilla Monsoon. It was a hell of a debut.

Sometimes I would like to just be able to downvote certain people who are awful, without having to actively insult them, but that's probably kinda cowardly. If I want to insult someone, I should probably just insult them, or just get over it entirely.

I can't see any sense in Team Cena winning, unless they add a stip this week that Cena will be fired if his team loses the match. Rollins and (probably) Harper will be the survivors, and the show will end as Rollins, Harper, Triple H and Stephanie stand in the ring doing a mocking YES chant. Making the final guy on Team Cena Ziggler would be a brilliant move.

    How I see it:
Sheamus/Rusev brawl to a double countout, Show gets wiped by Henry, the fifth man (Ryback?) walks out in a heat segment as Cena or Ziggler tries to tag him. Cena eliminates Henry and is then cheap shotted to be pinned by Kane or Harper. Ziggler eliminates Kane before losing to Rollins.

That $350 million figure is a bit misleading, though, especially as an argument against keeping the current direction. WWE stock got artificially inflated by a group of investors who know what they're doing and then the market crapped out on them. The $350 million they "lost" was stock value and despite the announcement of the Network, there was no reason for the price of the stock to practically double when it did.

  124. I think Sheamus is turning in this one. Doesn't make much sense given his recent booking but he hasn't been a heel in awhile and with Orton's face turn, there should be a fresh heel to plug into the upper card until Mania.

    ReplyDelete
  125. That's fair, but the idea still rings true...you've gutted your entire PPV market, your Network has bombed, and your Stock is deflating. MAKE A STAR.

But wanting Steph off TV because she's pregnant (HOW MANY KIDS DO YOU NEED?!?!? USE A CONDOM!) and dismantling the entire Authority angle because of it sounds like tossing the baby with the bathwater (almost literally in this instance).

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the end of the "evil authority figure era" in the WWE and have it go back to a Jack Tunney-esque figure who only shows up every now and then, but I don't see it happening.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Knee Drops, Tom. Knee Drops. Whooooooooo!

    ReplyDelete
  129. The only thing that's interesting to me is how they handle Rusev, because it's going to be Cena/Rollins to decide it and nobody else matters. They've really booked themselves into a corner. I'm guessing some form of double DQ/CO with Sheamus, but that would be a face move and should aggravate the Authority. Which could just be ignored, but still, shitty booking.

    ReplyDelete
  130. See posts a bit higher. They apply here.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Got your hopes up just a little bit, didn't ya?

Hey, I'd be all about regular bedroom sessions with Stephanie, too, but if a condom was out of the question, someone would be getting their tubes tied.

How many female McMahons does the world need? And why can't Triple H bear a son? See, people? There ARE consequences to HGH.

If Rusev and Sheamus survive a one-on-one encounter for more than a minute before spilling outside and both getting counted out, I'll be SHOCKED!

    ReplyDelete
  140. As far as tubes tied... maybe after seven. If we're that damn rich, and can support them all, then fuck yes we'll keep going.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Good points except for the "Cena jobs clean and often". I can literally count less than ten times since 2005 where Cena has put someone over completely clean as a sheet.
This is usually subjective, in nature...because of people's interpretations of what "clean" is. For example, I don't see Punk beating Cena at MITB 2011 as "clean". However, Daniel Bryan's win over John Cena at Summerslam 2013 was very clean.

    ReplyDelete
  142. In spite of Shawn's annoying friends being incredibly over in WCW... Shawn joining them would not have worked. He wouldn't have fit in.

    ReplyDelete
  143. HHH has been unbearable at times. This is an opinion, but shared by many. BUT...when it comes to NXT, it's a retarded statement to say "HHH will ruin it." when it his brainchild and baby.

    But yes....mustache twirling.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I've seen Flair drop an elbow...on his suit jacket.

    ReplyDelete
  145. I'd like to see Rusev kick out of some finishers to build him up some more.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Maybe that's why they keep going? They want a male heir...

    ReplyDelete
  147. If HHH adds himself to the team, I think he's putting himself over.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 14, 2014 at 8:13 AM

It's a shame that Vince and Linda don't have a son who's already produced a male grandchild.... oh wait...

    ReplyDelete
  149. Doesn't matter, Big Poochie still would have booked Shawn over Goldberg in '98.

What comes first: a male heir or a HHH retirement match standing ovation?

    ReplyDelete
  153. Still giggling every time I read this.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Like so: "You should have seen her giving me a standing ovation the other night...."

    ReplyDelete
  155. The update is now up. All other small felines are safe.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Does it involve actual clapping? Because that sounds
    really painful.

I can see Vince ribbing HHH about "not putting a stem on the apple (™Bill Cosby)", though.

    ReplyDelete
  158. It could if you dig that sort of thing.

    ReplyDelete
  159. True. The only scenario is the previously mentioned Corporate Hogan feud. That could have made serious jack - Vince WAS behind the NWO, brother!

    ReplyDelete
  160. No. Like:

"I'm not gay, but mattindeed twirled the FUCK out of my mustache."

    ReplyDelete
  161. Yeah, the racism isn't funny, but I'm highly amused by the errors leading to that post.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Oh, I thought we made "standing ovation" the euphemism. Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Wasn't recently until I realized Seabass was Cam Neely; super random cameo there.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Pfft - all they had was Devin... Taylor... - uh, I need to go for a second.

Okay that's better. They had Devin Taylor in the back doing short interviews with the wrestlers where said wrestlers talked about matches and titles. Man, that's silly.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Maybe, hard to tell how much influence he had. It is clear that NXT isn't going to just be the developmental show forever.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Is his master plan to be Magnum TA? Because that would be my plan.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Hogan/Austin at WM14 would've sucked but man the angle would've been good, Hogan comes back red and yellow, gets booed all over the place, Hogan and Vince make a deal with the devil with each other for Hogan to be the champ/face of WWF, and to slow the rise of Austin, but Austin just destroys him at WM. The problem is you'd have to kick Hogan out after that.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Well, they say, that WCW was all about backstage politics - he would have been spot on!

    ReplyDelete
  169. No, not maybe. Literally, NXT was HHH's brainchild. He came to Vince with the idea. He got the contract with Full Sail. He has gone out and signed the indy talent (even after he jokes about them publicly for some reason). All of this is well documented.

There's also nothing showing that NXT is going to be changed into something other than a developmental show. It continues to be the show that the new guys come in a learn the style, learn to cut a promo, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  170. "a golden chance to really put some people over and make new main event stars"

"But we still have Cena" said Vince, Steph, HHH and Creative.

    ReplyDelete
  171. If WWE is insistent on keeping Cena and Rusev strong, why not book a double-DQ with them, which would not only accomplish what the person who posed the scenario suggested (Cena being eliminated early on), but it also would sow the seeds for Rusev vs. Cena. It could even happen with Team Authority up 4-2 and once Cena's out, it's down to Ziggler versus three guys.

I know, I know, I'm using logic to book. Let me correct it: Cena wins LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  172. NXT could always be awesome. What happens to the NXT guys when they come up to the main roster that HHH has more input into, eh, probably not so awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  173. My guess would be that HHH has WAY more input in NXT than the main roster. He has to hurdle VKM constantly on the main. Meanwhile, in NXT he IS VKM.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Hmm. Yeah, could be.

    ReplyDelete
  175. She's very cute.

    And yes, that's totally lame.

  176. The Love-Matic Grampa!November 14, 2014 at 9:06 AM

Rusev vs. Cena seems like such a dead end for both guys. Cena gains zero from beating him, and the whole idea of getting the "rub" by feuding with him went out the window with Bray Wyatt's credibility. Of course, Rusev beating Cena clean would do wonders for him, but that has as much chance of happening as Nailz going into the HOF.

  177. The Love-Matic Grampa!November 14, 2014 at 9:08 AM

I'm loathe to say that anyone is past the point of no return...but Ziggler's pretty close.

    ReplyDelete
  178. I believe no way out 2009

    ReplyDelete
  179. Ryback walks out (Maybe before the match and gets replaced by Orton who gets DQ'd for taking out Rollins)
Cena and Rusev do a double DQ/Countout
    Henry Pins Show
Ziggler pins Henry, Harper and Kane
Down to Rollins vs Sheamus and Ziggler, Sheamus turns and walks out.
    Rollins Wins

    TLC
    Rollins vs Orton
    Ziggler vs Sheamus
    Henry vs Show
    Ambrose vs Wyatt
Lesnar vs Cena (If thats set for the Rumble then Feed Cena Kane or someone)

  180. I would have loved to see 1997 shawns ego be told by hulk fuckin hogan that he wasn't good enough to be the top guy in wcw. Man the backstage stories we coulda heard about them two would have been great.

    ReplyDelete
  181. They at least built up a heel well for Cena to potentially beat at a big PPV, maybe even Mania. And Rusev's heat probably vanishes the second Lana leaves him, so no big loss there either.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Cena beats up his team-mates before the match starts, because he wants to end the Authority by himself. Squashes everyone in 3 min. #cenawinsLOL

    ReplyDelete
  183. Is beating Kane and Henry and Harper (yes, I know he's good but he's unestablished as a singles wrestler) really going to get anyone that over? Rusev isn't taking a loss (if he gets pinned in this stupid match...). Rollins...upper midcarder with MITB.

Ziggler's been "made a star" several times, with title reigns and winning MITB. Why would beating the aforementioned guys be any more effective than it has been in the past?

I'm not sure how much they'll push Ryback given how similar his size/power could contrast with Reigns.

Cena might get knocked out early to tease a WM opponent (Rusev?) or with Brock interfering, but, while I hope I'm wrong, I don't think anyone will be "made" by this match.

  187. The Hulkster would never have let him get over. He would have cut him off at the knees the moment he got there.

    "He's too small brother"

    ReplyDelete
  188. Sure, but lots of people like Reigns, or Ryback or Randy Orton (lots of r's there), and look at the varying degrees of moaning on here about guys like them getting pushes.

Or if you mean that live audiences generally pop pretty big for the guy, I agree, but like I said, a lot of his popularity seems to linked to the perception (right or wrong) that he's been/being held down, something that Punk and Bryan benefited from too. I don't think he'll ever come out to crickets, but like I said above, I suspect that if/when he gets a big push a lot of his appeal is going to seep away. Of course, there's only one way to find out, and unfortunately (for me, someone who thinks Ziggler's the definition of a talented midcarder) that would be to actually give him a sustained push to the top.

  190. And no way hogan puts the nwo over either

    ReplyDelete
  191. My prediction is Rusev either eliminates Cena, or they do a double countout. Comes down to Orton/Rollins, with Orton winning. Nobody else in the match is important enough to fantasy book.

    ReplyDelete
  192. I has always heard WM X ladder match was supposed to be his last WWF match, then he was headed down south. Would he have been successful then? I say yes. Even if Hulk shows up later in the year he would have been great with Sting, Flair, Steamboat, Dustin, etc...

    ReplyDelete
  193. Big Show did that once, but his team was Kaentai & Blue Meanie, so I can't really blame him
