Sporting News: Survivor Series 2014 Results and Thoughts

  1. "Introducing your NEW RAW GM…"
"Hey, that' just Triple H with an eyepatch!"
"No, no, Triple H is gone. I'm his long-lost twin brother, Quadruple H."

    ReplyDelete
  2. It'll probably be Vince for a month or so before he can a new GM in there.

No authority figure would be ideal, but since that is unlikely to happen, going with a neutral or face one would be good for a while.

As much as I don't care about how WWE wastes their money, flying in Hogan every Raw so he can book matches seems like a terrible idea. Foley too. Flair would be a disaster.

Edge maybe? He's pretty unoffensive and is clear and concise with his speech.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Regal or Barret. Ideally, Regal. Give him another chance.

    ReplyDelete
  4. HHH trying to sneak into the building under disguise of luchador mask or something throughout RAW would actually be pretty damn funny

    ReplyDelete
  5. It is pretty pathetic that in the past 6 weeks, Hogan has been on Raw more than the WWE champion has.

My pick for the new GM: Daniel Bryan

    ReplyDelete
  6. "El Tres Hache"

    "Machine H".....

    ReplyDelete
  7. IMO, Scott shouldn't be allowed to plug his stuff here. What does he think, that he runs this place?

    ReplyDelete
  8. That main event (aside from the 5 minute staredown) was pretty well booked. It was best to have Ziggler overcome the odds than Cena for keeping the crowd into it, but also making sure Sting wasn't booed when he laid out Triple H at the end.

  13. Foley as Commissioner for a few months would so totally rule!

Foley is...the Commissioner *sung in tune to Foley's music*

    ReplyDelete
  14. It's the lowest form of nepotism.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I thought the Sting thing was anti-climatic. Video package, shitty new music, long walk to the ring, ten minute staredown. It would have been much better if the lights go out, come back on, and Sting is standing behind HHH. Quick death drop and that's it.

    ReplyDelete
  16. It would probably cause a lot of outrage on Twitter amongst the Latino fans, given that Ricardo Rodriguez has said that Trips used to call him Bumblebee Man.

    Eat a pallet of dicks.

    ReplyDelete
  18. But that wouldn't have eaten up three minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  19. He should have repelled down but obviously get why he didn't. And he need his WCW crow music, which is only some of the best music ever.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Sooo... Killer Bees mask, then?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ol' Spammy needs to eat a pallet of dicks and then tell his fellow spambots on his fake website how he made $75 an hour while having a pallet of dicks shoved down his throat. Now that would be a proper spam plug.

  24. HHH vs sting at rumble I'm guessing..

    ReplyDelete
  25. Deep down I knew all those years ago, watching DX drive that tank up to the gates of hell, that Sting vs HHH would be THE rivalry that brings wrestling all the way back to past heights.....need to check tv listings, looks like tonight's not the night I start watching Raw again

    ReplyDelete
  26. WHAT THE L?

    ReplyDelete
  27. So I caught Sting's debut on YOUTUBE, and just thought it was really poorly and lazily executed.

The ref stopping at 2.5 because he heard a sound and the amount of time Ziggler and Rollins were down was nonsense, but Sting's leisurely wander to the ring, his lack of baseball bat, his hair, the faux shock from the commentary team immediately followed by JBL reeling off stats like he had wikipedia open in front of him just all added to the anticlimax.

Go re-watch Undertaker's comeback at Judgement Day 2000 for how these sort of things should be done.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Con: immediately after Sting's "surprise" debut, JBL is rattling off title stats.

Pro: the Scorpion Death Drop looked vicious.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Wow. Was reading the recap and was happy I made the decision not to waste time viewing the show later tonight and avoiding the results, but the main event sounds incredible.

    ReplyDelete
  30. The snap he had on the drop was nasty!

    ReplyDelete
  31. If not the Crow music then even if they shelled out for Seek & Destroy and had the lightning effects going.

Of course they replaced nearly everyone's music from WCW, so why would Sting be any different? I think Booker T was the only one who got to keep his original theme for quite some time.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Really the lights should have gone out to give the ref the excuse not to count 3.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Noble, Mercury and Rollins were giving away that somebody was coming as they kept looking toward the entrance area during the beatdown on Ziggler.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I loved the main event. First full event in years. Loved Sting's debut, but not surprised by so many people nitpicking every little issue. If you saw it after the fact, I would say Sting coming out just as all Ziggler's hard work is almost made pointless was perfect. I don't know, I marked out like crazy, both for Dolph's come back and Sting, but I tend to be easier to please than most internet fans. No, I don't like everything, and in fact didn't like anything on this show but the main event, which I found exciting, reasonably unpredictable, and saw something I'll remember forever.

I can't understand why people thought Sting would magically appear in his twenties or thirties again, but I thought he looked fine and I'm getting better at accepting most people will never be happy with anything. It's not that I think everyone should love every match and show, but I swear, some people never say anything positive. Not sure why they watch at all.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well played, guys. Maybe they just thought Cena was such a GOOD FRIEND that he might try and come back out and help.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Back in May, I slipped and slammed the hatchback of my car into the top of my head. It took 9 staples and I bled like a pig (like Bill Alfonso vs Beulah bleeding). My 3 kids, ages 7,7 and 6 were in the car and saw it all. They were a little freaked out.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm not as worried about Ziggler jobbing out tonight, because that's probably inevitable. What worries me is that they're probably going to bring out Cena tonight to take credit for the win and barely acknowledge that Ziggler eliminated four of the five guys. And Ziggler will probably turn on Cena as a result.

And whoever is going to be in charge, I beg you that your first order of business is to fire, then beat the ever-loving shit out of, JBL.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Good for Sandow. Dude has been around forever waiting for his chance and he may finally have it. Miz may be able to use this to get himself over also. I'm not a fan of Miz but it's the holiday season and I'm feeling festive.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The whole finishing sequence was clumsy and awkward. If HHH can just beat up refs and interfere just make it no dq from the jump.

  41. Early prediction for the TLC card? I've got...
John Cena & Dolph Ziggler vs. Big Show & Kane (If Team Cena loses, Authority's back in power)
    Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins
Dean Ambrose vs. Bray Wyatt (TLC match)
Luke Harper vs. Erick Rowan (IC title, tables match)
    Rusev vs. Ryback (US title)
Miz & Mizdow vs. Goldust & Stardust (Tag Team titles, ladder match)
Nikki Bella vs. Somebody (Divas title)
    The Bunny is unmasked

"We want Sting....we want Sting"....we got Sting

    ReplyDelete
  45. So one thing I found out about last night: I can watch the current product if I put it on mute for at least 75% of the show, and watch something else (in this case, the newest Walking Dead) while every so often looking down at my phone to sort of watch it.

Typing it out makes it seem even more ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  46. YankeesHoganTripleHFanNovember 24, 2014 at 5:54 AM

WE HAVE STING PEOPLE!!! Put down your smark swords and mark the fuck out.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Minor point, but Sting needs to stop slicking his hair back. It accentuates his baldness.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm sure this was mentioned a million times before, but I have to mention it:

What was wrong with the Crow music? They used it for the 2K15 commercials, so you know they own it or paid for it at least! Why change it? That music is associated with Sting. Otherwise, cool debut for Sting -- except for the music and the old jewish guy hair.

Lastly, JBL was totally insufferable last night. It's not even "heel commentator" insufferable, it's insufferable-insufferable. I watched with the show on mute for the majority of the night, save the important moments, and he basically began ruining them every time he opened his mouth. He's terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Sting? I thought that was Howard Stingman....55 year old Jewish CPA...?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Oh man. Commissioners Edge and Christian would be epic.

    ReplyDelete
  51. It's pretty clear that if they wanted to make Dolph a star, it would be super easy because people want to cheer for him.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I was really hoping for surfer Sting.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Easily the best reverse DDT I've seen.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Shouldn't Sting get the towel?

    ReplyDelete
  55. I can see their POV though, make a big thing of his debut since it's not a return like Taker at Judgment Day 2000.

    ReplyDelete
  56. It's simple to get to Triple H vs. Sting at Mania now.

Let it rest for a bit, then after the Rumble have Sting announced as the headliner for the Hall of Fame. Triple H comes out and taunts him, telling him it's all about the money because he doesn't really deserve it because he never wrestled in the "big leagues" or ever competed at WrestleMania. Sting challenges him to a Mania match and says he attacks him because he doesn't like bullies and he's been beating big bullies like Vader and the nWo all his career.

Bonus points if they go full WCW nostalgia and get Flair involved as a special guest referee and play up his history as Triple H's buddy and his history of turning on Sting.

Super bonus points if RoboCop shows up.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Shuffleboard stick

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'll give the commentators credit for one thing: They didn't say a single thing during the Triple H/Sting standoff.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I was always a big sting fan but..that just felt like grampa stopped taking his meds, painted his face up and wondered into the building.

    ReplyDelete
  60. ****? Wow, guess I'll have to go back and re-watch what I thought was a boring, poor man's Survivor Series 2003/Judgment Day 2000 fustercluck.

    ReplyDelete
  61. terra ryzing could totally be a Lucha name.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Pat Patterson thought they went banana for him.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Surprised my your Ambrose vs. Wyatt rating and the general consensus that the match was 'mediocre'. I think it was a pretty fantastic, hard hitting match. They didn't give us a finish in order to set up a long-term feud. It's kind of exactly the sort of good stuff I mostly see advocated for on the blog.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Maybe they will have a chair match and we can have the return of the Big Show Huge Chair that he debuted a couple years ago against Sheamus.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Sting's going to be the commissioner. And it will probably suck.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Miz is already over.

    ReplyDelete
  67. My only beef with last night is that Wyatt got absolutely buried. Like why am I wanting to see a TLC match between him and Ambrose? Wyatt was pretty convincingly buried. No draw.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I thought that was pretty damn awesome, and I don't even like Sting that much. The main event on the whole was great - loved Ziggler winning the whole thing and Rusev belly flopping through the announce table was laugh out loud funny

Other than that, Wyatt/Ambrose was good but I can't believe Ambrose had the balls to climb up the ladder and not jump off it. PG Era indeed

    ReplyDelete
  69. Ziggler was awesome. I'd go even higher than ****

    ReplyDelete
  70. C'mon...DISTRACTION ROLL UP

    ReplyDelete
  71. They shouldn't have said anything when he meandered out, but I guess that was asking too much.

Everyone knows who Sting is. We don't need Cole to tell us. 10 year olds know who Sting is.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I'm assuming that the mention that Trips and Steph would still have desk jobs was just a cover their asses move for the shareholders, since they both hold actual positions in the company, that they were fired, just not FIRED-fired.

Wasn't there a big to-do with the stocks when Vince "lost" the company to Trump and they had to put out a press release to remind shareholders that wrestling was scripted?

    ReplyDelete
  73. At least they didn't say "It's Sting! Star of THQ's WWE 2k15, available in all good..."

    ReplyDelete
  74. You mean it would TOTALLY REEK OF AWESOMENESS!

    ReplyDelete
  75. I believe there was. I'm not sure whether the stocks went up or down when Vince died in that horrible car explosion though.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Charismatic eNegro Jef VinsonNovember 24, 2014 at 7:11 AM

Subtract the Ziggler near falls and this was one of the worst PPV the WWE has put out in recent memory, and the first weekend that I've ever seen two back to back bad PPVs.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Charismatic eNegro Jef VinsonNovember 24, 2014 at 7:12 AM

Vince was probably in the headset like "shut up, Shut UP, SHUT UP!!!!"

    ReplyDelete
  78. It was nice to see Emma doing something other than getting squashed or stealing things.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Charismatic eNegro Jef VinsonNovember 24, 2014 at 7:14 AM

HHH should be using the time off to help Sting get in shape for a Wrestlemania match. 3 - 4 months is adequate time to learn the WWE style, pack on 20 pounds of muscle and get hairplugs.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Charismatic eNegro Jef VinsonNovember 24, 2014 at 7:15 AM

Why do you think his face was white?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Charismatic eNegro Jef VinsonNovember 24, 2014 at 7:16 AM

I agree. HHH should have lost his job VIA DQ and that could have been a loophole for him to come back later (which you know he will)

    ReplyDelete
  82. I thought it was a well structured match that kept giving you twists like the punch and then their way of taking out Rusev without having him job and the Big Show turn. Those all worked really well on the crowd and helped give the match peaks and valleys to keep the flow going. On top of that they gave Ziggler the spot light and he made the most of it.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Oh, that was absolutely Shawn in '03, but Ziggler did a damned good job.

    ReplyDelete
  84. For everyone shitting on the show let me remind you of the Mizdow/Miz Yea/boo and Jamie Noble trying to see over Rusev and Mark Henry's shoulders during the pep talk....AND Rusev's flip flops!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Agreed.

The fact that he didn't have his bat really bothered me - I can buy Trips being afraid of Grandpa Sting if Grandpa Sting was waving a bat around, but I actually felt bad for Trips having to sell that one little kick like it was the hardest strike in the world.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Miz was a big part of Daniel Bryan getting so over initially, and even helped to get ALEX RILEY really over for a short period.

The guy has a lot of negatives, but he certainly knows how to be a despicable, heat-giving jerk to his partners.

    ReplyDelete
  87. The Ziggler thing was really great, and I hope that they stay behind him, and that he can carry the weight of it if they do. I thought that Rusev and Harper both looked pretty good too.

It's too bad about Sting, that was a weak, but I'm happy for those of you who seem to like it for nostalgia or whatever.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Sting was stepping in and doing what he didn't do in WCW, which was make sure the balance of power didn't tip irrevocably to the bad guys.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Yes, and also when Vince "died" and they had to send out press releases to indicate that no, Vince McMahon was not actually dead.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Yeah I thought it was hitting *** until the shitty finish.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Really surprised by the low rating for the opening four-way match - I thought it was great, and nicely book-ended the great main-event.

The middle of the show sucked, but considering that the "middle" was only about an hour long, I'll say that I thought the good long opener and good long main-event were good enough to negate the bad.

Still don't understand why Sting didn't have his bat, though. As I said elsewhere, I can buy Trips being afraid of old-man Sting if old-man Sting is waving a bat around, but not of Sting himself. I felt bad for Trips having to sell so much for that one little kick.

    ReplyDelete
  92. And we've seen enough pre-WrestleMania Triple H workout video packages to know he can do it!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Technically Brie was still Nikki's bitch for the show, so she was probably told to do that by Nikki. Tonight is her last night being a slave and then she's free. We'll probably get a Bella vs Bella TLC match at TLC!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Sting's basically been the ultimate good guy since 87, not counting shitty booking in TNA, so he came to right the wrongs. I'm sure RAW opens with a twenty minute or so promo.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Who said kayfabe is dead

    ReplyDelete
  96. Just finished the show. I only watched the opening match, Ambrose/Wyatt and the main event. Wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. Glad to see Ziggler look solid for a change, and Cena not for a change.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I noticed the lack of baseball bat too, and I'm fairly certain it was intentional due to the PG thing with the company. It also didn't help that he looked like he was wearing pajamas under his overcoat. "Hey everybody, just woke up. Heard there was shit going down. Thought I'd see what's going on..."

    ReplyDelete
  98. Was expecting Sting to takes a mic and ask where are the Aces & 8

    ReplyDelete
  99. I really liked 2K14. It had a great roster, and a lot to do. 2K15 is just not that great. It reminds me of going from Smackdown 2: Know Your Role to Smackdown 3: Just Bring It. It's a nice upgrade graphically, but lacks a lot of the features from the one before.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I felt bad for Booker T watching HHH sell that long for another WCW guy after what Booker had to put up with for their Mania match

    ReplyDelete
  101. Only within the confines of a planned, scripted storyline.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Scott if you liked 2k13 then you'll like 2k14. The gameplay is basically the same as 2k13's. 80s Hogan, Savage, WWF Flair, Million $ Man, Andre, Bret, Austin, Razor Ramon, HBK, Rock and Foley make this the best roster ever. Plus community creations had hundreds of great old school guys. Don't know what they have now but I got great versions of the Bulldogs, Demolition, Brainbusters, Windham, Luger, Sting, Orndorff, Piper, Adonis, Strike Force, Race, Vader, etc. The DLC is hit and miss unless you love the nWo.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I would die laughing if the new COO was a masked individual known as.... El Juego.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Coles strength was standing with a rock shirt on his head while he held a mic and let the rock make fun of him

    ReplyDelete
  105. I said in the other thread that I would die laughing if the new COO was a masked man called El Juego.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I just wished they used the symphony music for sting.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Yeah, graduated a year after me. Didn't know her but she was in band with my exgirlfriend.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I watched it with a group of 5 buddies and it's amazing how much more we enjoyed this show than everyone here. The main event was the funnest main event I can remember since Bryan vs Cena at summerslam. I watched very little tna so seeing Sting come back is something I'm pretty excited for.

    ReplyDelete
  109. during the buildup Sheamus joins forces with Sting... only to turn on him (you know, just like it happens every single time).

    ReplyDelete
  110. That's cool. I see your point.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Yeah, as happy as I was to see Sting, that was disappointing.

    ReplyDelete
  112. First we'll start seeing a mysterious dancing scorpion mascot.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Probably went down the umm *cough* next week.

    ReplyDelete
  114. TJ: it always bothered me a little that during the Outsiders/Bischoff interview at GAB 1996 Scott Hall talks about them as being "the big man... and the medium size man".

"medium sized man" is really not a good way to sell him being dangerous/a big deal/etc. instead he shouls have said "the big man... and the BAD man" (which would have also been another good throwback to his Razor Ramon persona).

    ReplyDelete
  115. that's what angered me about that match so much as well.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I'd agree and say 2k14 has easily the greatest roster of any smackdown game. I was actually pretty disappointed with this year's roster in comparison.

    ReplyDelete
  117. absolutely. The Miz is a good midcard heel (not more, but also not less).

    ReplyDelete
  118. Haven't all of Ambrose's single PPV matches this year just been "not what was expected and building to next month's PPV"?

    ReplyDelete
  119. The commentary was odd:

    COLE: OMG ITS STING.
JBL: OH WOW! STING! LET ME READ OFF HOW MANY CHAMPIONSHIPS HE'S WON! WHAT A GUY! WHAT A MOMENT! THIS IS A HELL OF A TIME TO DEBUT!

KING: WHATS HE DOING HERE THO
JBL (suddenly remembering he's a heel): I DONT KNOW HES JUST PUTTING HIS NOSE WHERE IT DOESNT BELONG

    I mean, fuck.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Hogan is arguably the rightful champion. For me, he never really lost it after This Tuesday in Texas.

    ReplyDelete
  121. If Austin's podcast becomes produced by WWE I'm sure the podcast will start to revolve around how far HHH can shove his cock down Austin's throat every episode.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Don't forget......"Trending worldwide" followed by #Sting appearing at the bottom of the screen

    ReplyDelete
  123. Wow! Excellent Fantasy Booking

    ReplyDelete
  124. My guess: Dolph wins back the Intercontinental title....probably tonight. (Doesn't he fit the mold of a typical 80s/90s I-C Champion? Good worker, Star in waiting, at least somewhat viable contender)

    ReplyDelete
  125. Why would he need a bat against one dude...? Just sayin'...

    ReplyDelete
  126. CruelConnectionNumber2November 24, 2014 at 10:19 AM

That main event stip will not be happening.

Authority gone until Cena turns heel.

    ReplyDelete
  127. You can absolutely put Ziggler vs. The World and Sting Debut on the vast list of post-JR If Only JR Called It... moments, for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Imagining Nidia in band is pretty funny

    ReplyDelete
  129. Opener was below average. Divas elimination.. need I say more? Ambrose/Wyatt was underwhelming, AJ/Nikki.. and there's that, and the main event sucked until the last 15 minutes.

    Yeah, GOOD PPV!

    ReplyDelete
  130. The finish was fine. The match was just average. There were a couple of pretty cool counters. I'll give them that.

    ReplyDelete
  131. They were most likely told to, or else JBL would be rambling on and Lawler would be cackling like a little bitch.

    ReplyDelete
  132. I feel like I'm the only person on the planet who enjoyed the Divas elimination match, although I wish the story was better. I had a BALL with that SS match, though. Good times.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Creative's first thing on the docket. Screw everything up.

    ReplyDelete
  134. needs hair in a can

    ReplyDelete
  135. I just watched the main event at work. Scott's making fun of Sting's bald spot? I would kill to have that much hair at Sting's age! Hell, he should go full Nash and let it grow out to his waist!

    ReplyDelete
  136. I watched a lot of Ambrose in the indies before he was called up and still called Jon Moxley. The WWE has just not booked to his strengths at all, so all of his matches have this air of disappointment. He's a straight brawler in that Austin/Mick Foley mold and can actually make death matches bearable. Having him work these plodding matches is hard because it's just not his skillset.

    ReplyDelete
  137. I don't even like Wyatt, but when does he not get buried? It seems to be his thing.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I'm wondering if I just can't stand how the WWE paces their matches anymore. The first 10 minutes of Ambrose/Wyatte was so dull; it was just the two running into each other than laying around. And even when it started to build up, it was like a minute of selling/walking around/rolling outside the ring for every move. It's just so tedious. Great, Wyatte just threw him into the barricade; I'm going to watch Bob's Burgers for a few minutes while I wait for the next thing to happen. It's so seldom that I actually feel drawn into matches with this modern style.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Rest easy Mr. Keith. Rest Easy.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Spammy had 2 more likes than you did. Just wanted to point that out.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Eh, to each their own.
But I'm not banned unlike the bot so I still won.

And besides, I won comment of the night on the live thread last night so why should I care about 2 likes for a spammer?

    ReplyDelete
  142. One of them was me anyway so I dont think that counts.

    ReplyDelete
  143. :LOL - all because of that scumbag Ric Flair!

    ReplyDelete
  144. That was my problem with it. Just too long. It's like they tried to get too cute with it.
