Survivor Series is saved!

From the Smackdown spoilers:

"Team Cena promo.  The final stipulation is that if Team Cena loses, every member of Team Cena is fired."

Well, there you go.  100,000 buys at least off that.  So if any of you had any doubt that I was 100% right all along about the outcome, I have only three words for you:

CENA
WINS
LOL.

Like seriously, every member of the team is fired if they lose?  Why not tack on "We will kill this bag of puppies with a hammer" as well to really make people think Cena can't overcome the odds?

This company.  Holy fuck.

Eh, look on the bright side, we may get a few weeks of Raw where it's complete anarchy again. That was fun.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Wow. That makes me far less likely to want to watch. Two possibilities now: Cena wins, or Authority wins, and then Ryback, Ziggler, Show, and Rowan have to get on their knees and beg the Authority for their jobs back while Cena gives a tearful promo about having to go home before showing up in every segment.

Sorry, Rollins push. It was fun while it lasted, but now I guess we can expect you to lose all of your backup and get crushed by Cena at TLC.

They should have let that episode where it was just Punk, Cena, Sheamus, and HHH, run longer.

    ReplyDelete
  4. The Authority wins & on Monday night we see the long awaited return of The Machines!

    ReplyDelete
  5. And then Jim Cornette will refund all the money every viewer has spent on the WWE Network since it launched.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Awesome. Rowan will wear a Machine mask over his sheep mask, or else he'll just be Sheep Machine.

    ReplyDelete
  7. This is one of the rare times I want Cena to win. I want to see what the do with the storyline after that.

    ReplyDelete
  8. "Yep Mode" Abeyance Brown ©November 18, 2014 at 11:11 PM

I was thinking the same thing too, when TNA was taken over by the MEM, they had at least 1 full hour in control.

    ReplyDelete
  9. "Yep Mode" Abeyance Brown ©November 18, 2014 at 11:12 PM

Same here, it's been so bland as of late.

    ReplyDelete
  10. The Authority angle has overstayed its welcome, although it's rather ludicrous to virtually give away the results.

    ReplyDelete
  11. A better stip would be if Cena wins, he gets power. Gods know they would never follow that to its logical conclusion though.

    ReplyDelete
  12. "Yep Mode" Abeyance Brown ©November 18, 2014 at 11:18 PM

10 years ago they would have.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Haven't watched shit since Hell in a Cell. So... the ghost returns and screws Cena's team, haunts RAW for a while until The Authority reinstates Cena and Co. to bust the ghost? That'd be where I would go with it.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Cena was fired four years ago. It didn't stick

    ReplyDelete
  15. So what? A firing means you're gone for a week.

    ReplyDelete
  16. This only ensures that none of the stipulations will stick, because I can't imagine Cena, HHH, or Stephanie being away longer than a week.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I have to admit, I'm really enjoying their subtle, nuanced writing as of late.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Team Cena wins at the PPV. Then...

Option #1: The Authority pulls some kind of bullshit by which they are back in power by the end of RAW.

Option #2: A new General Manager is named who is a pawn of the Authority, effectively keeping them in power.

I honestly don't see them doing anything other than one of these two options. I don't they remember how to run a show without some kind of authoritative figurehead. Maybe they name a token babyface GM, but you know there'll a power struggle for control before too much longer. Of course they could have Team Cena lose, in which case they'd probably have Vince come out on RAW and rehire them. In any event I put the odds of some kind of spirit-deflating fuckery at about 3:1.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Are these sort of stipulations really relevant in 2014? We all know they're not getting 'fired' and we know triple h and steph still run the show so why bother with these lazy booking crutches? There are better ways to tell a story if they really wanted to.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The Authority wins at Survivor Series; the next night, Team Cena (or what's left of it, assuming some people don't turn on him) stage a 'Strike' in the middle of the ring. The Authority ultimately agree to rehire them, under the condition that John Cena face ___________ at TLC.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Option 3 is Orton (or maybe someone else who isn't on either team) running in, leading to a giant clusterfuck where nobody really wins or loses, so none of the stipulations have to be followed. The "creative" team assumes this will make us want to see Orton; actually, it makes me want to see what's on Netflix.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Two words: Brad Maddox, thus ensuring that everything for the past year has gone in a giant circle.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Doesn't this just make what pretty much everyone wants a given now though? Team Cena will now most likely win and the Authority will go away. I don't get the complaining on this one.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Now that's just silly. Now refund for the month of November, maybe

    ReplyDelete
  25. Holy fuck nuggets, whoever left the freezer door open, shut that sumbitch.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Team Cena loses, but they negotiate to the point where only Ziggler gets fired.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The Authority will go away?

Have you not seen the past few years?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 12:15 AM

Team HHH wins, but it's declared null and void because no one signed the contract.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yes, I have seen the last few years, thank you. The fact that Vince came out to get involved in all this leads me to believe that something will change regarding the Authority.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Because it feels like they're trolling us; setting the fans up for a big middle-finger swerve. There's no way Team Cena can win, meaning they obviously will win, so the swerve is they won't win. We're probably all overthinking it, but WWE's track record of pleasing the fans has been pretty shaky lately.

    ReplyDelete
  31. In this particular case, would people really be overjoyed if Cena didn't win?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm hoping cena wins and we never have an on air gm/sheriff/commissioner/coo/president again.
They just dig up the corpse of jack Tunney and make him permanent president.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I like the Mick Foley GM scenario: Team Authority loses, but they present a document they drafted the night before booking a match between Cena & Rollins; if Rollins wins then the Authority is back in power. Seventeen different guys interfere leading to a Rollins victory. Added bonus: Cena gets to brag about "putting Rollins over" to the boys backstage.

    ReplyDelete
  34. So 100000 buys times free equals nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Even in kayfabe, this makes no sense.

The Authority is about "what's best for business," so they decide the best possible move is to fire the top star and four other guys who can help pad out three hours every week (five, if you count Smackdown; seven, if you count Main Event and Superstars; ten, if you count the PPVs)?

I'd life myself into an early grave if the stock plummeted because they really thought WWE might fire its top star (like how stockholders were in a tizzy after the "Donald Trump Buys Raw" angle).

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'd be all for that.

They did this ten years ago in the Evolution vs. Team Orton match, where each member of the winning team got to be GM for a week. If they did that now, it'd be five weeks where Creative would be forced to think outside the box because they can't use the Heel Authority Figure crutch. It could lead to something different, at least.

    ReplyDelete
  37. "Yep Mode" Abeyance Brown ©November 19, 2014 at 12:33 AM

People bought the Donald Trump angle? Jeez that's stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  38. These people have the sledgehammer subtlety of Bruno Heller's Gotham scripts.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Who booked this crap?

    ReplyDelete
  40. "Yep Mode" Abeyance Brown ©November 19, 2014 at 12:35 AM

    So mature isn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  41. It's all leading to the return of Jaun Cena only this time joined by Le Grande Spectacle.

    ReplyDelete
  42. "Yep Mode" Abeyance Brown ©November 19, 2014 at 12:36 AM

A bunch of kindergarters......oh :laughs: my mistake, it's just WWE creative.

    ReplyDelete
  43. "Yep Mode" Abeyance Brown ©November 19, 2014 at 12:38 AM

No, just WWE's newest share holder, Paul Helmsley.

    ReplyDelete
  44. That was a really entertaining month of Raw. I loved HHH saying that if there was no Authority, the inmates would run the asylum and it would be WCW. Yeah because WCW never had any dumb authority figure angles.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm sick of this negativity. So everyone asks for stakes to be added for Cena's team, right? NOW THERE'S STAKES! What would you like to hear? If Cena's team loses, they all have to do the Ice Bucket Challenge? If they lose, they clean Grumpy Cat's litter box? THIS IS HOW STORIES ARE TOLD IN WRESTLI---what's that? Oh, I forgot, we don't call it wrestling anymore. We deal with failed soap opera writers who can't even craft a shitty love triangle between two brothers and a crazy woman.

    ReplyDelete
  46. You're forgetting about the segment where Big Show initially refuses but Stephanie tells him that giants have lower life expectancy than normal people, causing him to cry for 5 minutes before begging.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Well, Vince is the one doing this, right?

So maybe Vince is just a lunatic (on and off screen).

    ReplyDelete
  48. The Authority is the best part of the show right now, so...I don't want Cena to win.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Show Machine (not for sale)
    Food Machine (insert correct change)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Jesus. It is not promoted to you. When you were a kid mark, you would totally buy this angle. You'd buy a lot of this stuff. I mean really? You can figure out almost every winner in every match with 96% accuracy. Its not rocket science. Never meant to be. Its why we love it.

And for fucks sake, when we are surprised, we bitch that it doesn't make sense and that shouldn't be the finish.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Gotham Begins won the internet in 2014, and I've not even seen Gotham.

    ReplyDelete
  52. In olden times, you had territories that people moved around between, so when stips like this wee enacted they were actually enforcee.

Now it's all inbred, and you can't do things like that any more. But WWE themselves hasn't figured out Sports Entertainent yet.

The old stuff doesn't work anymore, and the new paradigm remains unknown. WWE is well and truly fucked.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Show turns and costs himself his own job without even realising.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 1:48 AM

I was never this stupid as a kid. And the DEAD SILENCE on Monday shows that fans aren't buying it either.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Yeah dude. You were pretty fucking gullible when you were little. Be real.

    ReplyDelete
  56. What makes less sense:

    a) this angle

    b) that a bunch of 28-45 year old men would spend their time complaining on an internet forum that a storyline on a fake fighting show geared towards 13 year olds sucks and/or is being telegraphed?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Wrestling was never promoted to children before WWE. It was promoted to adults. But it turned out that kids liked wrestling that was promoted to adults, which was a nice bonus.

    The reverse is not true.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Yeah Scott, what makes you think they should be booking to your taste when the average WWE fan is 41 years old and... uh... uh-oh.

    ReplyDelete
  59. The corpse of Jack Tunney would be more animated than the living Jack Tunney ever was.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 1:54 AM

Doesn't change the fact that it's not just smarks that aren't buying this shit. The crowds prove it. Monday was not a one time thing, this has been going on for a while now.

    ReplyDelete
  61. ? If by WWE you also mean WWF, then you're kidding yourself. Who was Hulk Hogan appealing to? What about the cartoon? Or the oversized pseudo teddy bears? 1995? Seriously man. You're either fucking with me or you're crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Drink a coffee dude, your reading comprehension is way down.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I thought Cena got fired every week and always comes back. It's his gimmick.

    ReplyDelete
  64. You know, it's easier and shorter to just post, "Yeah, I guess you were right."

    ReplyDelete
  65. Howard Johnson is right!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 1:58 AM

I'd have no problem doing that if it were true.

    ReplyDelete
  67. c) that someone else would come along and call them teh stupidz for doing so.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I'm sorry your feelings were hurt by my statement.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I've read that some of the stock reaction was not so much out of belief in the angle, as just a solid 'NO BUY' when it comes to *anything* involving Trump.

    ReplyDelete
  70. No no, it's alright. You just have my best interests at heart.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Let's not get crazy. =)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Vince McMahon appears on Raw, announces the Authority are fired.. but they have the opportunity to save their jobs IF...

And then somehow we get a tag match in the main event and it's business as usual.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 2:05 AM

I've been reading about hacking broadcast signals, and it would be pretty hilarious (not not really possible with the network) if someone hacked the SS main and spliced in a match from a good team vs. team angle, like the 92 War Games.

    ReplyDelete
  74. No no...it is quite healthy for people to hear that they're getting their panties in a was over something stupid and not for them. Would you go to the Teletubbies fan site and talk about how stupid it is?

    ReplyDelete
  75. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 2:07 AM

Maybe I was gullible as a kid, but I was brought into wrestling by someone that was already smartened up. So I would have never bought this bullshit. And as I said, neither are today's kids. Either that or they just don'd give a fuck, which is even worse.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I just hope some day I can find you on a My Little Pony message board--pull you back from the brink like you did me. Like Rikishi I just wanna make a difference!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Please.

    Transformers boards or nothing buddy.

    ReplyDelete
  78. It's a promise!

*starts dancing like Rikishi, mudflaps a jigglin'*

    ReplyDelete
  79. Yes. Yes I would. Fuck those Monchichi ripoffs.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 2:12 AM

And the yellow one is a fag!

    ReplyDelete
  81. It was the PURPLE ONE, you jerk!

    ReplyDelete
  82. Hey what's that smell? ...oh yeah, bullshit. Lotta bullshit.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 2:17 AM

That smell is vinegar and water.

    ReplyDelete
  84. When this whole thing ends up in a Sportz Entertainment Finish, simply to set up an angle for Rumble 2019.....we are all going to be trolled pretty bad.

I mean, that's how the last 5 PPV's have ended, right?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 2:21 AM

Was it? I'm not even sure if their was a yellow one, I just took a shot in the dark.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 2:22 AM

If they could plan shit out for 5 weeks in advance, much less 5 years, this company wouldn't be in the shape it's in right now.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 2:23 AM

    Yellow and purple aren't races!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Based on the last 20 PPV's, this is only going to end in a Sportz Entertainment, double DQ finish just to set up an angle for Royal Rumble 2019.

Because, who would have believed 30 days ago that Ambrose/Rollins XXVI would end with a Bray Wyatt hologram in the ring, right??

    ReplyDelete
  89. "5 hours..." Paul Levesque thinks to himself.

    ReplyDelete
  90. All you see is color....

    ReplyDelete
  91. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 2:26 AM

All shades of red look the same to me!

    Seriously, I'm partially colorblind.

    ReplyDelete
  92. A what in the what? Hologram? That can't be.

*sips tea, stares at wall humming "Amazing Grace"*

    ReplyDelete
  93. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 2:28 AM

Had someone predicted it I wouldn't have considered it outside the realm of possibility. I mean, you know we were getting some kind of fuck finish in the type of match that is specifically designed to prevent fuck finishes. Of course, they fucked that up in the very first one.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Playing the handicapped card?!

    You sir disgust me.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 2:30 AM

    Differently abled, fucko.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I just wanna be a fly in the writing room:

"What if we had the lights go out, and a hologram appears..."

    ReplyDelete
  97. Well there certainly is a lot at stake in this match now.

    ReplyDelete
  98. You're right. I'm a monster.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I have it on good authority that on the PPV pre-show they're going to announce the losing team has to eat at Golden Corral...

    ReplyDelete
  100. Fuck man, that is a damning indictment of the show right now.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 2:38 AM

Fits with Vince. "Hey, did you hear about the Tupac hologram?"

That company is now out of business, BTW.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Good *authority*? Is your source The Authority?

    ReplyDelete
  103. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 2:39 AM

Have their ever been 10 no-shows on a single card?

    ReplyDelete
  104. Lets just say my source is what's Best For Business™…

    ReplyDelete
  105. Don't talk to Jesus like that, dude. Show some respect.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Something something next TNA card something.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I think the Authority will win the match. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  108. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 2:41 AM

They gave up on promoting to Jesus after the Vince vs HBK & God angle.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 2:42 AM

It doesn't count as a no-show if you've released everyone because you can't afford to pay them or just forgot to renew the contracts.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Or, Cena demands to go over Rollins anyway since Seth used an unauthorized ice pack.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I know. I tried. It's just late, I'm tired, and teen-girl emotional from last night's Sons of Anarchy. I need hugz!

    ReplyDelete
  112. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 2:46 AM

So do I, and Cena will weasel out of stips by saying he didn't sign the contract.

Or Cena wins and HHH uses the same excuse.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Then the lights go out, and a hologram appears...

    ReplyDelete
  114. The Raw audience is,
from the most recent demographics, 81% over the age of 18. Even people younger
than that probably remember the last time Cena was fired and was back on Raw a
    week later.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Help us, Jim Cornette...you're our only hope...

    ReplyDelete
  116. *Cornette face*

    Fuck this company!

    ReplyDelete
  117. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 2:49 AM

    And it's C.M. Punk...

  119. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 2:52 AM

And more than half the crowd at this point are like "I hope he gets fired, I'm sick of this motherfucker!"

    ReplyDelete
  120. Laughing his ass off.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 2:55 AM

"C'mon hologram AJ, let's get the fuck out of here."

    ReplyDelete
  122. Geez, even the Beau James/Scott Sterling match next Wednesday will be less predictable than the outcome of this match and I figured out a month ago that Beau's winning that match.

    ReplyDelete
  123. According to Kevin Nash, there has been at least one Thunder taping where half of the guys that were booked no-showed although to be fair they probably didn't even know they were booked...because WCW.

    ReplyDelete
  124. That time Truth got in trouble for drinking water, and
they actually played it on Raw the next week with Morrison making fun of him
for it, as if the crowd would be like "Ha, what a loser, drinking
water!". This company is run by complete psychopaths.

    ReplyDelete
  125. You actually believe he's gonna burden himself with the TV Trophy?

    ReplyDelete
  126. Adam "Colorado" CurryNovember 19, 2014 at 3:19 AM

You can't even drink fucking water? What is this, a North Korean POW camp?

    ReplyDelete
  127. Maybe Someone like Rybak or so is paid by the Authority to help them win the match.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Team Cena killing a bag of puppies with a hammer would be a more interesting loss stipulation than what they're going with.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I read the most awesome scenario just now - Cena's ENTIRE TEAM will turn on him and just beat the fuck out of him with the Authority for 20 minutes to close the PPV. This will make a lot of sense as everyone on Cena's team has issues with him.

That way we'd have an awesome new heel mega stable and then Cena get recruit people who have legit reason to beef the authority for a huge main event feud - Daniel Bryan, Randy Orton, Roman Reigns... CM Punk?

    ReplyDelete
  130. He's won nearly every other championship in the company so he might as well win the trophy just for the hell of it.

Plus he's undefeated thus far this year (no doubt to make up for the fact that he lost nearly all of his matches last year) so he's a safe bet to win even though the over-under on the match is "no one cares".

    ReplyDelete
  131. Yeah but Truth got the best run of his WWE career and two PPV main events including the Rock's comeback match. Not bad for getting made fun of for drinking water.

    ReplyDelete
  132. That would be a cool visual in a Julius Ceaser way. Both teams stand face to face in the ring, Triple H gives a signal and WHAM. Cena's team decimates him. Then the Authority just rehires everyone but Cena.

Obviously that can't work because the main event magch(and only one of like 4 on the show) can't go 2 minutes. But still a cool idea that could be used at a later date.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Or in Stephanie's case...BREAST for Business.

    ReplyDelete
  134. True, he ended up with a pretty decent, if not particularly credible, run. I could be wrong but I think he had the title shot, drank the water, lost the title shot by being jobbed to Morrison, then they changed their mind and gave him the title shot anyway. It was a messy time.

    ReplyDelete
  135. They could beat him up for 20 minutes dude. TWENTY MINUTES! It would be glorious

    ReplyDelete
  136. THEY'RE TELLING STORIES!!!

    ReplyDelete
  137. Eh, I wouldn't bet on this meaning that Team Cena is winning for sure just yet. This is WWE Land, where people can lose their jobs in a career match and yet end up back on the show by next week. How many times have we seen THAT particular kind of scenario play itself out? In fact, they could easily end up just having McMahon come onto the show and rehire everyone so to cause further tension between he and The Authority.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I only just turned 27, actually.

    ReplyDelete
  139. I love it when the creative team tacks on a stipulation to a match, realizes too late that they gave away the ending and then swings back, overcompensates the fuck out of themselves and tacks on another stipulation that removes any and all doubt about the ending.

That said, I still don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that they have Team Authority win, Triple H calls Team Cena to the ring at 10:50 on Raw to fire them, Vince swaggers out and goes JK LOL NO, we ignore the stips completely and we kickstart last year's rumored HHH/Vince for control of the company angle.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Man, don't project.

    ReplyDelete
  141. No. Stupid wrestling bloggers, "reporters" and I think a dirt sheet writer or two padded out their content with reports about the stock tanking and the SEC and shit, but none of it was true.

    ReplyDelete
  142. WCW did a three way team match at Uncensored 97. The stips
were that if the nWo won, they would be able to get a title shot at any time
whenever they wanted, if Piper's team won, then Piper would get a title shot
against Hogan sometime in the future, and if Team WCW won, then the nWo would
have to disband and they'd all be BANNED FROM WRESTLING FOREVER. I always
thought Piper was such a selfish son of a bitch for not just joining forces
with the WCW team and not ganging up 8 on 4.

    ReplyDelete
  143. If the 28-45 year olds stopped watching and caring about Raw, Raw would be cancelled.

    ReplyDelete
  144. That was from Uproxx, and, yes, it's fantastic.

    ReplyDelete
  145. They've done at least two angles in the last five years where Cena was fired. Obviously they didn't stick to it for more than five minutes, just like they wouldn't this time. But the point is, dumb as this may be, I don't see it making it any more or less likely what the outcome will be.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Oh I sooo 10000% agree... And to make things even worse....

I could actually buy Piper and his 3 cronies (boxer, kickboxer, Tenta), as he gave them an opportunity, so they were 100% blindly loyal to him. They didn't care about WCW, they just wanted to be noticed. That is fine...

But then the Horsemen replaced them....... And refused to help WCW... What... The... Frack...

    ReplyDelete
  147. Bet they regretted that at Fall Brawl. Stupid Horsemen.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I have always hated this kind of stipulation, and it happened a ton in the Attitude Era too. So it's not a "WWE today sucks", it's a "this stipulation has sucked for the past 16 years".

Dating all the way back to Logan's most recent Raw recaps where Austin gets fired if he's not impartial in the Taker/Kane PPV match... And the "End of an Era" Taker/Austin match, where Vince was back 2 months later... Or the "Pink slip on a pole" match with Rock/Mankind, where they just made a protest for Mankind to come back... Etc etc etc.

Either it spells out the winner, or you know they will go back on their word. It's a lose-lose scenario.

    ReplyDelete
  149. lol yep. Also, the World War 3 matches where WCW had them outnumbered 56-4 in 1996, and about 45-15 in 1997... And both times, it ended with like 80% NWO members at the end. SMART, WCW! VERY SMART! :)

    ReplyDelete
  150. At least will the "SCREW YOU AUSTIN YOU'RE FIREDDDDDDD" they came up with a creative way to get him back on tv. Same with pink slip on a pole. What I hate is someone just showing up again just cause.

    ReplyDelete
  151. happened a ton in WCW also. And hell, Foley came back just 4 weeks after he "retired" at No Way Out 2000, he even joked about it. Just a bad stip in general I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  152. There are no real "stakes" in this matchup, save bragging rights. Adding the stips is supposed to generate "interest", but it's so tacked on that it's really stupid.

    B. Bayless is right - there's NO forward thinking in this company right now.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Yes there is. Brock/Cena at the Rumble, and Brock/Reigns at WM. (sorry if it's not liked on here, but that IS forward thinking)

    ReplyDelete
  154. There still isn't any reason for The Authority to be feuding with Cena.

    ReplyDelete
  155. As I mentioned before, yes there is. He doesn't suck up to them, and on top of that, he made it clear that he doesn't like them, and would love for them to get disbanded. How is that not seen as a threat to them? They don't care if he sells wrist bands. They wanna keep their spot, like any heel authority figure would.

    ReplyDelete
  156. The Foley stuff was stupid cause they didn't even bother coming up with an explanation. I don't mind the stip and I don't mind it not sticking. Just don't be lazy with it. Sometimes they are and sometimes they aren't

    ReplyDelete
  157. I'll dial that back a bit, but that's not exactly forward thinking. Setting up the Cena-Authority angle was a mess.

I mean, even something as simple as "the winning team gets title shots" at least adds a bit of intrigue.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Well, the "disbanded" thing was indeed stakes, but I do agree that the "they all get fired" thing is just overkill. I wouldn't have done it.

    ReplyDelete
  159. That'd be fine, if he was only seen as a threat before the summer was out, and really, why would they allow him a chance to get another shot at Brock at RR?

    It's messy all around.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Hell, Austin got like 284 shots at the title while Vince wanted him practically dead. No need to overthink it, it's just "rasslin' logic". Just saying, it's not like it's just suddenly happening now.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Yeah, who says you have to have the "firing" happen as part of the match? Put out the ever cryptic "fallout" the next night and go from there. Adding the stips really doesn't mean much, as pointed out before.

    ReplyDelete
  162. True, but at one point VKM said "Austin makes me money", so it was kinda overlooked. But yeah, point.

    ReplyDelete
  163. I never thought about World War 3 in those terms, but yeah.
I think WCW even spun it the other way, saying that the nWo were a unit whereas
everyone else was in it for themselves, so the nWo actually had the advantage. Shameful
    stuff from WCW!

    ReplyDelete
  164. Yep - thought it might be bad manners to actually mention the site

    ReplyDelete
  165. If you were working there would you honestly give a shit about WCW being under attack? I wouldn't. As long as the paychecks arrived on time, who cares?

    ReplyDelete
  166. I actually think it's a relatively good move in the sense that it spells out more clearly that HHH and Steph are gonna lose, which is what the audience is more apt to pay to see. Or, ya know, watch for free.

Man, they really are just resorting to begging at this point huh?

    ReplyDelete
  167. Yeah, I agree. Before the match I assumed
there’s no way the Authority lose at all, so the match was basically dead
anyway. Now you know that there is going to be SOME kind of change in the
status quo coming up, which is something at least.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Funny how as a mark, I really thought WCW was on their last legs because the NWO was beating them, and I thought they were going out of business.

While in reality, it was the opposite, and they were the strongest and most profitable they had ever been.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Though Cena's lost "get fired" stops what, 2 or 3 times already? Remember it in at least the Punk and Nexus angles, and neither one even lasted a full show.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Foley really meant it in February 2000, I think. Then they decided they wanted a MCMAHON IN EVERY CORNER, and god forbid they use that loser Jericho, so they just undid the stip.

    ReplyDelete
  171. After the match with cena standing tall we get the Wayne's world squiggly line thing and pan to hhh waking up in a cold sweat in bed with steph saying he had the craziest dream!!! Because wwe

    ReplyDelete
  172. Yeah, I don't blame Foley at all for taking the huge @$$ payday for 1 more match. They basically talked him into it, and his career was done, why would he care? Take the money for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  173. You know, "Holy Fuck Nuggets" doesn't get used enough.

    ReplyDelete
  174. In the WWE Universe, being fired results in the fired employee somehow getting a front row ticket to Raw the night of the show (ticket sales must really be hurting), and reinstatement by Smackdown, so the match could still really go either way.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Wow, even VJ is bashing this stipulation. That's when you KNOW it sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  176. And when Everyone who didn't hold a title in The Alliance were fired

    ReplyDelete
  177. Yep. Then Lance Storm came back as a janitor, and etc etc etc etc etc!

    ReplyDelete
  178. My favorite moment was

    "You're my best friend"
    -I accept that.

    AAAAaaaaaaaaaAAWWWwwwWWWWWWWWWWWWWW..........

    ReplyDelete
  179. I agree. It's a fucking Loser Leaves Town match, one of the oldest stipulations in wrestling. No one believes that anyone involved is really "leaving town," so why the fuck not say Cena's team is fired if they lose? So it's "good" in the sense that it's the best of a shitty situation, yeah.

I don't know where Scott's going with this one. I mean, the smart money is almost always on Cena winning, but I don't know how one would draw the conclusion that this stipulation makes either outcome more or less likely.

    ReplyDelete
  180. I love how there's critics of being critical on this thread...

"You do realize it's geared to 12 year olds, right?"

HHH goes out to cut a promo about WCW, a company dead for 13 years. Then, announcers shill Attitude Era stuff on the network.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Stopped reading after he used the wors mark. Lol wow

    ReplyDelete
  182. You know it's a huge stipulation when they add it on the go-home Smackdown.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Well, it could be like last time Cena got "fired" (Survivor Series 2010) and still showed up on RAW EVERY WEEK until he was rehired.

    ReplyDelete
  184. They needed to hire Ralphus as head of building security. He would have kept him out.

    ReplyDelete
  185. Every time I see Ralphus on an old WCW clip I wonder if that guy is still alive.

    ReplyDelete
  186. So wait, you're ubhappy if the authority wins (evidenced by all the complaints levied against the authority winning since the match was announced.) and now are complaining about cenas team winning?

    They really can't win.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Team Cena loses

    Authority dominates RAW Monday

    Vince comes out for "congratulations"

Vince announces the Board is unhappy, Authority stripped of power, Cena's back, HHH and Steph are fired.

    End scene.

    ReplyDelete
  188. They're covered both ways.

Plus there's lots of complaints that HHH and Randy Orton are *NOT* involved in a main event match. Incredible.

    ReplyDelete
  189. Lawler would have another heart attack with that puppies stip.

    ReplyDelete
  190. Hold on, hold on...is that Network buys or PPV buys?
I might be taking this literally, but 100,000 Network buys coming out of this show would actually be an astonishing number, all things considered. What would that be, at least a 10-15% jump in total subscribers?

    ReplyDelete
  191. I guess if you deliberately misinterpret things people say, you can make anyone look stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  192. Or,,, OR... it was a silly storyline from the start!

    ReplyDelete
  193. John, so funny you mention the Attitude Era and this past Raw, because I was thinking...
Didn't Monday feel like a really bad attempt at PG-13 Wrestling? I mean, in one segment we had the provocative Lana tease...Heath Slater coming out and screaming profanity...all of these things would've been massive no-no's 3-4 years ago.

It goes to show that cuss words and boobs don't necessarily sell like they used to, at least in the wrestling world. Still...they're trying.

    ReplyDelete
  194. I can't believe you just called me stupid. Screw you, pal.
