The Best of Halloween Havoc - WWE Top 10

I have some issues with anything from the Russo era being at #1, but as always I love the effort put in by the guys who do these things.

Comments

  1. On Wikipedia I read the best Halloween Havoc match -- according to some writer on WWE.COM, is DDP/Goldberg.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Oddly not even mentioned on this list.

Also, watching the clip again of the Flair turn on Sting, I was able to spot three guys in the audience losing their minds like little kids and high-fiving each other in delight while the rest of the audience was shocked. It was GREAT.

  3. Chamber of Horrors and the Monster Truck thing in the Top Three? WWE still taking shots at WCW thirteen years after acquiring a monopoly. Eddie vs. Rey belongs on top. DDP vs. Goldberg belongs on the list.

I have a whole lot of issues with ANYTHING from the Russo era.

  5. The top moment might have been better had

1- The match actually had a build, and had been announced for the PPV (I believe it was added mid-show)

2- The title hadn't been vacated in favor of a tournament, very soon after, possibly the next night.

  6. DDP vs Goldberg is one of my favorite matches in WCW. I loved the pacing of the match and for the amount of time that they had, they told a great story. Then again I was a big DDP mark at the time unlike Keith

    ReplyDelete
  7. A, you put the monster truck shit on a Best Of countdown...B, you don't include Hogan's wails for help as he murders The Giant. Come ON, production monkeys.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I just noticed that too haha.

    ReplyDelete
  9. No Thundercage '89? BULLSHIT.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Monster trucks AND the Chamber of Horrors above Mysterio-Guerrero? And you start the list off with Jake Roberts holding a snake up to his face (still bad after all these years)? I'd almost forgotten how much the WWE can insult my intelligence. And this is coming from a life-long wrestling fan.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Goldberg vs Sting should have headlined Starrcade 99. If Sting was healthy, he could have put over Goldberg at Starrcade 98 too. Naturally, neither happened.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Love the name Halloween Havoc...but man, there's some terrible moments on that list.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Goldberg vs. Sting, Bret vs. Hogan and Benoit vs. Flair for the U.S. Title would have been a huge triple main event.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Sting made an open challenge about halfway through the show. Nobody knew it was going to be Goldberg until he csme out.

And of course I see something from that dangerous match list from yesterday on this.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Halloween Havoc was always my favorite WCW PPV as a kid, even though I never actually saw them until much later. I always enjoyed the shows around that time of year.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I fucking hate WWE when they do crap like this... "Let's put out an IRONIC list about WCW (because nothing good has ever existed outside of WWE) and have a few actual good moments with tons of crap!"

You WON WWE. You own the library. Why do you need to trash a legacy of a company you own?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I was 10 for the 1990 havoc and I thought the Halloween theme, dark mat, and orange ropes was sooooooooo cool. Love that show

    ReplyDelete
  19. Wow, even worse. Gotta love Russo!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Would have went much higher on Flair/Arn/Pillman vs Sting. Would have burned the footage of the monster truck shit and tried to start Skynet to go back in time and prevent it from ever happening

    ReplyDelete
  21. My mark thoughts as the monster truck storyline progressed...

I found it unfair, because Giant already had his truck, and Hogan claimed "I'm gonna build a bigger monster truck, and challenge him". So.. Hogan could specifically design one that officially had more horsepower, a stronger motor, etc etc, because he already had the info on Giant's truck. That was totally unfair!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. List is missing the '98 Hogwarts Hulk Hogan attempting to cast a fireball on Warrior.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Completely agree 100%. Such an awesome look

    ReplyDelete
  24. List makes no sense, but ok. Havoc 92 is a pile of shit, no 1989 or 1990???

    ReplyDelete
  25. So october should be boobie month on the network, great idea.

I have no faith in the wwe to do anything but t he obvious, which would be halloween/horror every october.

Again i dont dislike the idea, i dislike how it would be executed by the wwe

    ReplyDelete
  26. "October should be boobie month"

If that's what you took from my coment, you should work on reading comprehension.

    ReplyDelete
  27. so your argument is you don't want the Network to improve because you don't think WWE can improve the network?
Your logic is both Recursive and Depressing, well done Sir

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yea im not jumping on that "Free Survivor Series"

Id much rather watch Walking Dead and NFL. 100 times out of 100 times.

    ReplyDelete
  29. - You watch RAW & SmackDown and you see what's wrong with WWE now.

    - You watch the new show "Rivalries" on the Network, and 10 seconds in you see a smirking Vince McMahon say the Stone Cold character is really him... and you see what's been wrong with WWE forever.

    ReplyDelete
  30. There are so many combinations of guys who should have done more together than the throwaway matches they usually had.

    ReplyDelete
  31. "Oh, and be sure to subscribe to The Network for $9.99 a month. You, too, can watch Hulk Hogan ride around in a monster truck and a fat guy that 90% of you have never heard of get 'electrocuted'....

Wait, WHY are our Network numbers so shitty? OK, fine, add another hour of Cena to Raw making poop jokes. That'll put asses in seats. What do you mean? I'm being totally serious -- That's a GREAT line. Bischoff was saying it ironi-who?"

WWE: Remember when we won the Monday Night Wars? Remember how awesome that was?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Nobody, including the announcers even knew if it was for the title or not. I think Goldberg takes the belt after the match but Sting was stripped of it on Nitro.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Remember when WWE won the Monday Night Wars? Yeah. This is that, but, since they "built" Rey and Eddie, they'll put an awesome video of them (because WCW didn't "know what they had" so it's OK).

    ReplyDelete
  34. That would be like if they added Daniel Bryan to the Orton/Batista world title match halfway through the PPV with no hype. If you have a Goldberg/Sting main event, with Goldberg winning the title, perhaps it would be wise to advertise it? Russo!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Who needs and awesome name like Halloween Havoc when we're getting FAST LANE?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Millionaire who ought to be a billionaire.

    ReplyDelete
  37. To be fair, even though I admit I rarely watch Raw, I am pretty sure Cena hasn't made a poop joke in nearly 2 years now.

    ReplyDelete
  38. You sound like you wanna take out your frustrations on Martin Prince right now! Why don't you pick on someone your own size, I'd like to see you take on Nelson or Kurney!! TOUGH GUYY!! HOOOOO!!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Stupid list. Goldberg beating Sting didn't even mean anything by the next night.

    ReplyDelete
  40. CruelConnectionNumber2November 2, 2014 at 2:59 PM

Nikki Bella's tits at the end of the video were better than 80% of that WCW garbage!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Cena is a poop joke...

    ReplyDelete
  42. CruelConnectionNumber2November 2, 2014 at 3:12 PM

Is it cold on the road or a really clutch game? Peyton will choke. 35 out of 40 times.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I would pick on The Network, but I'd rather have a fair fight... maybe if I wore a blindfold...

(See, because it's easy to pick on the Network... I'm funny! My mom tells me so!)

    ReplyDelete
  44. I.... I can't top that.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Halloween Havoc really had some quality matches over the years

DDP vs Goldberg, Vader vs Cactus Jack, Steiner Brothers vs Nasty Boys, Luger vs Pillman, Eddie vs Rey, Hogan vs Flair (yes, I liked it).

    ReplyDelete
  46. Agreed. I tried to catch her kiss but no dice. People can say what they want about that gal but her T&A factor is a solid 9/10.

    ReplyDelete
  47. You sir are putting words in my mouth. I never said I don't want the network to improve. You idea, while not a bad, would be poorly executed by the WWE. Judging by the same idea being used for SIX years on Classics on demand.

What in the last nine months has you thinking anything will change for the better?

    ReplyDelete
  48. The monster truck thing is 2? Goldberg/Sting disaster 1? Is this the WORST moments list?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Anyone complaining about the network should just cancel and join us 200,000 that have since June.

    One of us!
    One of us!

No love for the Chamber of Horrors match? Abdullah the Butcher died that night! (or maybe it was the Atlanta Braves. It was a long time ago things get hazy.)

    ReplyDelete
  51. YankeesHoganTripleHFanNovember 2, 2014 at 5:29 PM

Don't you just love dropping a grenade on the blog and watching them FREAK? Good times, good times.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Given the level of talent Russo worked with around this period, it's pretty shocking he couldn't produce a good PPV show.

    ReplyDelete
  53. TJ: If you were to do the WrestleMania All-Time treatment for Halloween Havoc, what makes the cut? Usual rules: only use each guy once, each title once, and each show has to be represented. GO

    ReplyDelete
  54. Millionaire who should be a billionaire.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Upvote for the Fired Up reference on the hashtag. That movie never gets enough love.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Vince really does need to write an autobiography. It would be right up there with Ted Turner and both of Robert Evans' books as all time must reads.

    ReplyDelete
  57. It's kinda like the current stupidity going around Coca-Cola where a guaranteed hot seller like Surge is still buried on Amazon while shit that absolutely no one buys like Fresca and Pibb Xtra continue to take up space on store shelves. It's ass-backwards.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Vader vs. Cactus Jack
    Goldberg vs. DDP
    The Thundercage match!
The Yeti and Giant double-hugging...er, double crushing Hogan!

Seriously, though, that Halloween Phantom bit was a great inclusion. It hit all the boxes of a terrific moment: Rude was a legitimately big 'get' for WCW, it was a nice payoff to the Phantom storyline, it's a great Heyman promo and Madusa looked absolutely smoking hot.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I don't buy Bixenspan's CC excuse considering there's a huge chunk of content on both Netflix and Amazon that isn't closed captioned yet it's available anyway because they figure people will want to see that stuff.

Speaking of Bixenspan, why doesn't Bryan write for his own newsletter anymore?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Yeah, they need to do a new interview with Bischoff already. He's been free and clear from TNA for a long time now.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Dana needs to bring back one night tournaments ASAP.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I thought I missed something at first. Why the hell is that #1?

    ReplyDelete
  63. You're mostly right. If (and it's a big if given that of the 1.154M to subscribe, 423k "churned", closer to 40% than the 4-8% WWE was initially projecting) WWE maintains current numbers, it will be close to break even in 2015.

According to the 8/11 Observer (the one from the last conference call), the then announced cost cuts of $10M in 2014 and $30M in 2015 changed what was required to break even.

For 2015 (with those cuts), WWE needs a yearly average of 750k subscribers to break even; a 1.1M average would be enough to cover the company's dividends (WWE has been dipping into its cash reserves of late to cover dividend payments); to return to pre-Network profitability, 1.3M average. Finally, to make up the startup costs of the Network, 1.5M average.

    ReplyDelete
  64. They should bring back the Hallowen Havoc in october instead of the HIAC PPV. If they want, they still can make a HIAC match at that event.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Only if they add the electric chair that shoots fireworks to the cell.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I wish with these Top 10s that there would be a voiceover to explain the context.

How in the blue hell did the monster truck fight get on this list at all, much less #2?!

    ReplyDelete
  67. They managed to run that match twice on PPV in 1999 and neither one meant anything. It should have been the most epic "Franchise vs. Franchise" Starrcade main event of the year.
